I have to make up a waacking persona - aka the character you embody when dancing - and I am torn between three options:
The Mandy Slade/Sally Bowles persona - a boisterous, glamorous, confident 70s party girl. Inspiration includes Mandy and Sally, St. Vincent in her Daddy's Home era, Candy Darling. Her theme song is Down and Out Downtown, because there is nothing more freeing than taking the subway home in the early hours of the morning after hours and hours of dancing her troubles away.
The Tom Ripley (Purple Noon)/mod Brian Slade persona - he is cool, calm, collected, and at times cold. He is ambitious and always plotting something. He is sneaky, sexy, and wouldn't be caught dead in anything other than the swankiest, cleanest suits. He's very polished - until he isn't. His theme song is Fascination.
The Curt Wild/rockstar persona - he is messy, raw, bursting with energy, and all-too-happy to freak everyone out and turn everyone on at the same time. He's here for a good time, not a long time. His theme song is I'm Sick of You.
Also song of the day!

Ripped this off TikTok
Haejun @ D.I.S.C.O.
The dance style is called Waacking, similar to Voguing but the idea seems to be getting more expressive with the dance and trying to match the instruments.

Updates and Rambles
So I’ve been working towards the goal, and even though it’s just started I’m learning so much about myself. The biggest being that I am a terrible listener, both on an emotional sense and a physical one.
When people are talking to me, it’s like I have the phantom music of my headphones playing and I don’t fully hear what they’re saying. Especially when people are saying their names. I’ve also noticed that even when I’m not hearing phantom music, I often have a really difficult time hearing things with clarity and have to ask people to repeat things multiple times until they’re almost yelling. I can’t tell if it’s a sinus issue or just that I’m developing hearing loss (crossing my fingers it’s the first), but I hope my goal of wearing my headphones less alleviates this a bit.
But when I am able to really, truly listen, I feel more connected to people. Usually I’m reading lips and responding to what I think people have said because I don’t wanna stop my music, or if I’m passing someone while I’m in a hurry I greet them and keep walking, unsure of if they heard me. But now I’m able to hear that they did, and they said hi back and wished me a nice day. I’m able to call back a “you too!” just before they’re too far away and it’s awkward. I wonder how many people think I’m Hollywood or unapproachable because they greeted me while I was in a hurry and I simply couldn’t hear them to respond back.
I catch myself dancing a lot. The robot. Voguing and waacking steps I learned from Instagram and TikTok. That one dance from the “who is u” “i’m ya grandmother” meme. The choreography for my end of the semester show. All that stuff.
I obviously hear things other than people too. Wind, water from little fountains and makeshift waterfalls, the music that plays in the dining halls, the sound of footsteps and cars at crosswalks. It’s almost overwhelming how much there is to listen to when music’s not playing. I’ve always used music to drown out the quiet when there’s nobody to talk to on my walks, but the more I listen the more I realize that the world is very, very loud on its own. And I don’t hate it. I thought hearing everything would make me more anxious and paranoid, that I’d hear random creaking and settling and stuff that would make me uneasy. But so far so good. All I can hear is that occasionally my floor mates are irritating and loud.
I find myself listening to music less when I’m not on the go as well, interestingly enough. I thought I’d be fiending to listen to “glitter” by lexycat or “A Bit of Both” by Allen Stone, my ears itching with discomfort at walking around without it. And I still listen to them, but later on in the day as I’m finishing work, getting in the shower, or settling down for bed. It makes the music feel more exciting too, when I finally listen to it. It’s interesting.
Tl;dr: So far, so good. I’m liking this challenge, and it’s much easier than I expected. I recommend.
I might add another different challenge to complete in the upcoming weeks, since this one changes so little about my routine. But if I do, that’ll be a tomorrow post.
Well that’s all for now. Bye everyone! 🥰❤️

oooh today was a good day! Spent most of the day running around in hardware stores with my dad, and I ordered new flooring for my apartment! Things are happening!
And then waacking was good today. More choreo again, and I cheated a little by listening to our song of the day in advance. Whoops but imma do whatever to make myself enjoy this. Also our homework for the next few weeks is more choreo-based which is one of my strengths in this class. I wanna get better at freestyle but rn I don't have the bandwidth to really work towards that, so I'll take all the easy outs I can get lol
Here's the song!
