1. Bill to Ban Hidden Fees in California Signed into Law

California Attorney General Rob Bonta has released a statement regarding the signing of Senate Bill 478 (SB 478). SB 478, coauthored by Senators Bill Dodd and Nancy Skinner, will eliminate hidden fees, also known as 'junk fees,' in California starting from July 1, 2024. Hidden fees are deceptive charges that sellers include in transactions, either through obscured disclosures or later revelations, impacting consumers negatively.

2. New Portable Water Treatment System Vaporizes 99% of ‘Forever Chemicals’

A startup based Washington has devised a portable system capable of removing the vast majority of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, from water.

The system uses hydrothermal alkaline treatment, or HALT, to eliminate 99% of forever chemicals from water.

3. Tumor-destroying sound waves receive FDA approval for liver treatment in humans

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the use of sound waves to break down tumors—a technique called histotripsy—in humans for liver treatment. Technique developed at the University of Michigan provides a noninvasive alternative to surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatments for cancer

4. Japan's top court says trans sterilisation requirement unconstitutional

Japan's Supreme Court has ruled that it is unconstitutional to require citizens to be sterilised before they can officially change genders.

The 2004 law said people could only change their gender if they have no reproductive capacity. Wednesday's ruling came after a transgender woman filed a petition challenging the law.

5. Abandoned golf courses are being reclaimed by nature

Golf courses, despite occupying large green spaces, are not necessarily good for the environment.

Conservation nonprofits and local authorities are looking to acquire golf courses that have been abandoned due to high maintenance costs, low player numbers or other reasons, and repurpose them into landscapes that boost biodiversity and build natural defenses against climate change.

6. NSW court allows health officials to give blood transfusion to Jehovah's Witness toddler

Regional New South Wales health officials have won a court order authorising them to give a blood transfusion to a Jehovah's Witness toddler if needed in surgery. The Supreme Court has been told the girl, three, who can only be referred to as JI, is in need of two surgical procedures. 

On such an application, the overriding criterion to be applied by the court is the best interests and welfare of the child.

7. North Atlantic right whale population has steadied, scientists say

The population of critically endangered North Atlantic right whales appears to have levelled off after a decade of steep decline, according to updated data released this morning by Canadian and American scientists. Scientists in the consortium said Monday that the 2021 estimate of 340 North Atlantic right whales in existence has been recalculated to 365 primarily because of the number of calves born that year.

The estimate for 2022 is 356.

The Princess of Wales’s intensely personal video message is packed with symbolism and carefully chosen imagery.

The three-minute video, shot by Will Warr, the couple’s favoured film-maker, in Norfolk last month, focuses heavily on the importance of nature and family.

It depicts the Prince and Princess, tactile and intimate; their three children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six, at the centre of their world.

The positive tone, the laughter and playful scenes, demonstrate that the Princess is looking to the future, hopeful that her darkest days are behind her.

The footage is framed around the theme of nature.

Since her cancer diagnosis in January, the Princess has found sanctuary in the natural world and is keen to reflect its importance.

She has previously spoken of “the power of nature” in maintaining both physical and mental health and the imagery reflects this.

The footage shows the Princess leaning against a tree, eyes closed as she looks to the skies, touching the bark of a tree as she gazes upwards.

In other scenes, she is walking through a field of wheat, caressing the sheaves with her hand, beaming as she holds a yellow butterfly before it flutters into the distance.

Nature was a key theme in June, when the Princess delivered an update on her health, revealing that she had “good days and bad days,” but was “not out of the woods yet.”

Her statement was accompanied by the image of her leaning on a weeping willow on the Windsor estate, again, taking strength and comfort in nature.

The joy and vitality conveyed in the latest footage is a far cry from the video message released by the Princess in March, when, seated on a bench alone looking pale and thin, she revealed that she was undergoing treatment for cancer.

The film shows the Prince and Princess interacting in a way never seen before.

The couple, usually intensely guarded in public, offer a rare glimpse into their private world as they lean on each other, kiss and clasp hands.

In various scenes, the Princess leans her head on her husband’s shoulder, they lie together on their backs, arms wrapped around each other laughing, and the Prince affectionately plants a kiss on his wife’s cheek.

In the video the Princess recorded in March, when she revealed she was being treated for cancer, she said that having the Prince by her side was “a great source of comfort and reassurance.”

She mentions him twice in her latest statement as she shows how much she values his strength and support.

Their decision to let the world in on such personal moments might also reflect the “new perspective” they say they have each gained from their cancer journey, perhaps now recognising that others relate to such private experiences and vulnerability.

The Prince and Princess have always made clear that family comes first.

Family life is at the heart of this video as the couple spend quality time with their three children as well as the Princess’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton.

There are delightful shots of the family, arms wrapped around each other and laughing at the camera.

The children wield cricket bats, climb trees and run through the waves in the sea. They are shown playing cards outside and enjoying a picnic.

The images reflect the Princess’s recognition of the “simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved.”

It is significant that the Middletons appear in one scene, playing a classic card game with the family around a dining room table.

The Princess is extremely close to her parents and they have rallied round in recent months to provide invaluable support.

Their inclusion in the video is a means of public recognition, a thank you for being there.

As an unprecedented glimpse into an idyllic family life, the footage is similar to that released by the couple in April 2021 to mark their 10th wedding anniversary.

That film, also shot by Mr Warr, showed the family in Norfolk, frolicking in sand dunes, chasing each other through trees, and collapsing on the grass in giggles.

Much of the footage is shot in an old-fashioned grainy style, which harks back to royal videos of old.

The late Queen and Prince Philip often captured family moments on camera or cine film, and the style chosen by Mr Warr is reminiscent of that footage from Royal family holidays at Balmoral or on the Royal Yacht Britannia.

The brief footage of the Princess driving a Land Rover through the Sandringham estate demonstrates that she is well enough to be back at the wheel and in control of her life.

It is also reminiscent of the late Queen and Prince Philip, who were often seen driving themselves around the royal estates.

The late Queen relished such independence, particularly in her later years.

12th November 2023

I know some of you lovely people have been worried and have contacted mutuals to see if there is an update on my husband, so rather than have their inboxes clogged with asks i thought it best to update you whilst i have a spare moment.

Whilst hubby was in Swansea hospital he had an MRI and full body CT scan. The MRI showed a tumour on his frontal lobe that was 3.2cm long. This is classed as a major tumour. They advised that to have it treated in Wales we would have to relocate there and change address, which just wasn't feasible as our 8yo son still needs to go to school and it's better we come back to our home near London.

My Dad very kindly drove all the way to Wales to pick us up and drive us back, i wasnt in any fit state to drive so we had to abandon hubbys car at my MIL's.

Now that we are home we also learned that in hubbys seizures he broke his shoulder bone where the force of his muscles seizing was so strong the tendon ripped the bone in half. He also herniated 3 disks in his back, and has thankfully had osteopathy on those to help them heal.

We are now waiting to be seen by a Neurologist this week. Hubby is 99% likely to have brain surgery to remove the tumour. A biopsy on the tumour will then happen and if its found to be cancerous then he will have chemo and radiotherapy.

He's well in himself, and the short term memory loss/temporary dementia he was showing signs of have now eased thankfully. He's struggling with the broken shoulder as its his dominant arm, and will need surgery to fix it, but due to the severity of the tumour that takes precidence. I'd rather have a one armed living husband than a dead one with a mended arm.

Little Dude is holding up ok. He doesn't know it could be cancer and he doesnt even know what cancer is. We've told him Daddy has a lump in his brain that he will need an operation to remove, and might need some treatment afterwards to make sure it kills off the infection.

Ironically things i have been chasing for little dude medically for months finally got put into place this last week. In addition to his type 1 diabetes, he finally had his Asthma assessment and was confirmed to need an inhaler, and this week coming i finally have an appointment for him to be assessed for ADHD which i have been asking for him for years to be assessed.

So thats the update. I'm trying to stay positive but its a worrying time.

The staff that probably know the most about her diagnosis and treatment; Nanny Maria as to help if the children come to her with questions, their personal secretaries (both William and Catherine’s) as to help work around their day to day schedules, their security. Non-Wales staff that knows a good bit, King Charles’ staff as to be able to help properly update him if he is unable to speak to Catherine and William directly. If I had to take a guess on who knows the most, Nanny Maria and both Catherine’s security and personal secretary. And if anyone wants to argue with me on Nanny Maria knowing more, I feel like underestimating that William and Catherine would ever only employee someone that would be in their children’s’ lives for many years that they as parents felt comfortable for their children to go to first if they are unable to make it to William or Catherine themselves, then that is foolish. Outside of their parents, Nanny Maria is more than likely their most trusted adult and who they know they can talk to about anything, which is she is helping in their day to day lives, makes sense.

Also, I read the highlights from the article. My take away is that in regards to chemo, they may have had to adjust the timeline on dosage depending on how exactly she responded to it physically. We know she suffered during pregnancy with HG, so if they started with an agreesive dose of chemo, the doctors and Catherine may have decided that prolonged treatment with a lower dose, within reason of it being effective would be better for her long term health. I think the stress of the last seven years haven’t been great on any of them. It’s pretty much been said William and Catherine were worried about Harry when he proposed, but were willing to help both H&M enter into royal life as a married couple. Then knowing that they were losing Prince Philip and having young children that knew him and helping them through his death and then to turn around and help them through Queen Elizabeth passing. Knowing that she couldn’t be there for her husband and in-laws because the other daughter-in-law wasn’t being allowed there. The stress 100 percent played a part in her illness. And she more than likely has symptoms of the cancer and what caused her abdominal surgery, but like any woman who wants to be there for her family and loved ones in troubling times, she probably ignored them until she couldn’t. So say she developed a stomach ulcer and needed surgery. Those can be caused by extreme stress, so she could have assumed that was what all her symptoms were. At the end of the day, there is nothing more important, that any of the others could not help handle, than Catherine resting and taking the time she needs to get back to 100%. And I can guarantee you, if William loves her half as much as we all believe he does, that is the most important thing for him as well.

It’s been nothing but stress since Meghan entered the picture. I don’t blame her for Catherine’s illness obviously but there are other equally awful things that she has borne into Catherine’s life that I do blame her for.

I didn't think that there was any way KP could screw it up more but the cancer announcement just makes all the photo stuff and the weird apology for it just so much worse in hindsight.

It's honestly shocking that a team of professionals could fuck this up so badly. The initial handling of the situation wasn't great, but they could have at any point over the last month have put out a statement to squash the rumor mill. All it would have taken was an update a month ago, along the lines of "The Princess of Wales is continuing to make positive progress following her abdominal surgery in January. She is on track to return to royal duties in the spring, after the Easter holiday as originally stated. HRH is grateful for the continued support and well wishes and wishes to thank everyone for their concern. No more updates will be given until after Easter." That would have at least bought them more time until they had to make a bigger statement. Instead, when asked about Kate, kp issued one snippy statement essentially telling people to piss off. Oh and they could have you know, not released a manipulated photo. If it was such an issue, just release one from their Christmas shoot as they normally do.

According to the second source, Kate’s team is “reevaluating what she’s going to be able to take on when she comes back,” noting, “She may never come back in the role that people saw her in before.”

08 JUNE 2024: Emily Prescott, Daily Mail, "Princess Kate rewards 'Girl Friday' Natasha Archer for her loyalty with new top job as senior private executive at the Palace" [archive link]

In a move that has been interpreted in Royal circles as a reward for her loyalty, Ms Archer has been appointed to the new role of senior private executive assistant to Kate and William. Ms Archer, 36, updated her profile on the LinkedIn career website last week to reflect her upgraded status. Previously she was a PA and stylist, and was pictured carrying Kate's bags on and off planes for Royal tours. Ms Archer's promotion follows reports that she personally collected The Princess of Wales from the London Clinic after her abdominal operation earlier this year. After that, the mother of two was brought into the innermost circle of select friends and family members who have been supporting the Princess through her private cancer battle. Sources say Ms Archer, who is married to Royal photographer Chris Jackson, has been dedicated to her employer. She has been inseparable from Kate in recent months, often assisting her as she travels to and from hospital appointments. Now she will have a title and salary that reflects her trusted status.

A rumor that Kate Middleton is being treated at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston is false, according to a Kensington Palace representative.  Speculation about the princess' location has grown since she announced her cancer diagnosis in March. She began preventative chemotherapy in February, according to Kensington Palace, with no estimated date of when she might return to public duties.

However, she clarified that she didn’t take any photos or videos in a bid to respect her privacy as the future Queen of England continues her public absence amid a cancer battle.

Kate is having preventative chemotherapy, also known as adjuvant chemotherapy. This is when drugs are given to “mop up” and destroy any cancer cells that are lurking in the body after surgery — to prevent cancer spreading or returning in future. Often patients undergoing preventative chemotherapy receive lower doses than those having it as a primary treatment, reducing the extremity of the side-effects. The length of chemotherapy varies from cancer to cancer. Professor Bob Phillips, professor of paediatric oncology at the University of York, said that the timeframe for chemotherapy treatment was “hugely variable”, adding that it was “traditionally between four and six ‘cycles’ of chemo, each cycle lasting 21 days and consisting of a day or few days of chemo”. He added that there would then be “time for the body to recover from it”, while the chemo keeps damaging the cancer cell. Phillips said: “Generally speaking, the healthier someone is before cancer treatment, the closer to optimal the amount of chemo and the gaps between chemo can be. Generally, the younger someone is, the healthier they will be.” [...] He added that preventative chemotherapy can “be given at lower doses and therefore be easier on the patients."

The option isn’t there for George, of course, but the children have been kept at arm’s length from royal life. The Duchess of Gloucester has been earmarked as a likely candidate to present the Wimbledon trophies this weekend if the Princess of Wales is unavailable, as she continues her recovery from cancer treatment. All England Club Chair Debbie Jevans told Telegraph Sport in the build-up to the Championships they would give the Princess “as much flexibility as possible” in determining whether she is able to fulfil her ceremonial duties as Club Patron on finals weekend, including leaving a decision until the morning of the women’s final on Saturday.

Kate Middleton confirmed on Tuesday that she is in remission after privately battling cancer last year.

The Princess of Wales, 43, previously revealed in Sept. 2024 that she completed her chemotherapy treatments.

The mom of three shared the updated news about her health after visiting the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, where she got her treatments last year.

“It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery,” she wrote on Instagram alongside a picture of her sitting with a cancer patient at the hospital.

“As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal,” she continued. “I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.”

Middleton also thanked the Royal Marsden Hospital “for looking after me so well during the past year” in her statement.

“My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything,” she wrote. “We couldn’t have asked for more. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional.”

The future queen continued, “In my new role as Joint Patron of The Royal Marsden, my hope is, that by supporting groundbreaking research and clinical excellence, as well as promoting patient and family wellbeing, we might save many more lives, and transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer.”

Middleton revealed her cancer diagnosis to the world in March 2024, two months after undergoing “major abdominal surgery” at the London Clinic.

The princess mostly stayed out of the spotlight while she was going through chemo. She made rare public appearances at the Trooping the Colour ceremony in June 2024 and the men’s final at Wimbledon in July 2024.

In Sept. 2024, Middleton said on X, formerly Twitter, that she was “cancer free.”

“Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes,” she said.

Middleton began attending her first post-chemo public appearances in Oct. 2024.

On Tuesday, Middleton spoke to doctors, nurses and other patients at the hospital where she was treated for cancer. The outing marked her first major solo engagement in more than a year.

“I was just saying, coming in the front entrance here, having made so many quiet, private visits, actually it’s quite nice,” she was heard saying upon arrival.

Middleton also opened up about the “tough” long-term effects of her cancer treatment while talking with a cancer patient.

“You think the treatment has finished and you can crack on and get back to normal, but that’s still a real challenge,” she said. “The words totally disappear. And understanding that as a patient — yes, there are side effects around treatment, but actually there are more long-term side effects.”

“It’s really tough… It’s such a shock… Everyone said to me, ‘please keep a positive mindset, it makes such a difference,’” she went on. “The body is amazing at telling us ‘you need to take time out.’”

Asked how she was feeling, she added: “Sometimes from the outside we all think you’ve finished treatment and you go back to things. But it’s hard to get back to normal.”

Following her cancer battle, Middleton is expected to ease into 2025 by taking on a fraction of the public-facing duties that she would typically have on her calendar.

When the Prince of Wales unexpectedly pulled out of attending a memorial service for his godfather King Constantine of Greece last month, there was widespread speculation it was connected to the death of Thomas Kingston, the husband of Lady Gabriella Windsor.

It has now emerged that the unspecified “personal reason” given for his absence from St George’s Chapel in Windsor on Feb 27 was that his wife, the Princess of Wales, had recently received a cancer diagnosis.

Having undergone major abdominal surgery at the London Clinic in January, which was deemed a success, post-operative tests discovered that cancer had been present, contrary to all pre-operative tests – and a statement from Kensington Palace – that had suggested her condition was not cancer.

As the Princess herself said, in a video message updating the nation on her condition, it came as “a huge shock” and she is now in the early stages of preventative chemotherapy treatment.

The news of the Princess’s cancer – which comes on top of the King’s cancer diagnosis in January – comes at a difficult time for the Royal family but also explains much of the mystery that has prompted wild speculation about the Princess’s health in recent weeks, including, perhaps, the now infamous doctored Mothering Sunday picture of her.

The fury in royal circles over the controversy the picture generated is more understandable in the light of what we now know.

The Prince of Wales was trying to protect his wife at a time when she was at her most vulnerable, and together, they were trying to find a way of telling their children about their mother’s medical diagnosis.

The Princess said in her video statement:

“It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK.”

Whether or not the photograph was altered by the Princess to hide any tell-tale signs of her treatment we may never find out, but what was driving the anger at the international response to the touched-up image of the Princess and her three children now becomes clear.

While internet trolls were speculating that the Princess had faked the picture because she was not well enough to pose for one, or even that she was dead, the couple and their staff were having to bite their tongues, primarily for the sake of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

The fact that the Princess has only released details of her cancer diagnosis on the day her children have broken up from school for Easter is no coincidence.

Royal aides said the couple wanted to be able to tell their children at a time that was right for them and to “understand and process” the news before it became public.

Only after the children had finished school for Easter did they feel that it was “the right time to share this update.”

Aides have made it clear that the decision to go public about the cancer diagnosis and the timing of it had nothing to do with the ongoing speculation about Catherine’s health.

We still do not know what the Princess’s surgery involved.

On January 17, Kensington Palace announced that she had undergone “planned” abdominal surgery the previous day and that it was expected she would remain in hospital for 10-14 days before returning home to continue her recovery.

The statement released at the time said:

“Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”

Prince William visited his wife in hospital and postponed his public engagements to be by her side.

The Princess was discharged from the London Clinic on January 29, the same day that the King was discharged after treatment for a benign enlarged prostate.

He too later discovered he had cancer, in his case, unconnected to the prostate issue for which he had been treated.

The Prince of Wales returned to public duties on February 7, attending a dinner in aid of London Air Ambulance, where he thanked the public for their messages of support for his wife.

At that stage, neither he nor the Princess had any idea that cancer had been present at the time of her surgery.

They would only find that out at the end of February, royal aides have said.

It was shortly after the cancer was discovered in post-operative tests that the Princess began her course of chemotherapy.

When Prince William missed King Constantine’s memorial service, just hours before the announcement of the death of Mr Kingston, Kensington Palace said that the Princess “continues to be doing well.”

Two days later, on February 29, the Palace felt the need to make a further statement in response to the online speculation about her health, saying that it would only provide “significant updates” and not a running commentary.

On March 4, she was spotted in the passenger seat of a car driven by Carole Middleton, her mother, near the Princess’s home in Windsor.

It now seems likely that the Princess was making visits to see her cancer specialist during this period.

She was also seen in the back of a car with her husband on the day of the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey, which he attended but she did not, on March 11.

On March 5, there was what seemed at the time to be a curious incident involving plans for Trooping the Colour in June.

The Army released details on its website of ticketing arrangements, accompanied by a photograph of the Princess who, it said, would be reviewing troops from the Irish Guards on June 8, a week before Trooping itself.

After objections from Kensington Palace, which had not confirmed her appearance at the event, all references to the Princess were removed from the website.

The reason for the Palace’s nervousness over any promises about her public engagements even as far away as June is now clear.

Then came the release on March 10 of the Mothering Sunday photograph, which was withdrawn by picture agencies because of signs it had been digitally manipulated.

As it made headlines around the world, the Princess issued a personal apology for any “confusion” the picture had caused, saying that she would sometimes “experiment with editing” like many amateur photographers.

The photograph itself had been taken by Prince William.

The Princess’s statement did nothing to quell the speculation about her health, and on March 20, the London Clinic announced that it had informed the Information Commissioner of an unauthorised attempt to access Catherine’s medical records.

No date was given for when the alleged security breach happened, but it now seems likely that some staff at the clinic would have been aware that the Princess’s treatment and recovery had not been as straightforward as first thought.

By last weekend, the Princess felt well enough to accompany her husband on a trip to their local farm shop in Windsor, where they were filmed by a member of the public, who passed the footage on to The Sun newspaper.

The Princess was smiling and appeared relaxed, though she appeared to have lost weight.

There were cruel jibes online suggesting she should be back at work if she was well enough to be out shopping.

The video emerged after Kensington Palace had declined to comment on whether the Princess would join the Royal family at the traditional Easter Sunday church service in Windsor, saying a decision had not yet been made.

That guidance has now changed. The Palace now says there are no plans for the Waleses to attend the Easter Matins service in Windsor.

On Wednesday, rumours swept media circles that the BBC had been told to prepare for a big announcement of some sort.

It now turns out that Wednesday was the day a crew from BBC Studios, sworn to total secrecy, was summoned to Windsor to film the Princess making her video message.

Her plea for “time, space and privacy” to recover was the first time she had spoken to the public, albeit indirectly, since attending church at Sandringham on Christmas Day last year.

The Prince will return to work after the couple’s children have returned to school following the Easter holidays.

He will balance supporting his wife and his children and his public duties in the same way that he has been since the start of the year.

This is my busiest two weeks for this semester so my progress on my Tangled AU fic is kind of slow, so here's the start of a Henry family angst fic that I wrote out of rage on Princess Catherine (Middleton) getting ridiculed on a global scale while privately struggling with her cancer diagnosis. I mean it, I was so mad that when the announcement was made by the Prince and Princess of Wales at 6 am on a Saturday, I got up, half awake but full of anger at the world, and wrote the entire structure in 5 minutes

All five of them are in the music room, and Henry’s on edge. It’s not that it’s unusual for their family to spend time just sitting together. Aside from Philip who usually opts to return to his room and work on whatever he’s dealing with, he, Bea, Mum and Dad would spend weekend nights sitting in the music room: playing instruments while his parents waltz around the room, listening to Dad explain the movie’s he’s done or the new scripts he’s gotten, to just talk about any updates in their lives. It’s one of the very limited normalcies they have as a family. So the gathering isn’t what’s worrying him. No, it’s the fact that Philip was specifically called over to be here for this one, it’s the fact that he can tell there’s something, a secret that Mum and Dad have been keeping from them and it’s not a good one, it’s the fact that he can somehow tell Dad hasn’t been feeling well even if he brushes it off every time he asks about it. Henry has a guess on what’s happening, and God, he’s begging to be wrong.

He has exceeded the Diana card limit in my opinion. He is not the only child ever to lose a parent.] But being in great pain [I think he is just a great jerk] does not confer the right to inflict the same on others – nor by doing so is your own suffering necessarily alleviated. [Harold's "suffering" is largely self inflicted. Choosing a bully for a wife. Choosing drugs as therapy. Being a self-absorbed spiteful bully himself. Etc.] Part of being a grown-up is realising this, and trying to end the cycle of unhappiness rather than perpetuate it. [Harold lives in a Never Neverland in his own mind. He never wants to grow up and take responsbility for anything.]Harry, though, has done the opposite.
