Pt. 2 of this (back by popular demand).
When Jason wakes the following morning he feels gross. His face is tacky and he’s smushed in an uncomfortable position where he feels like he’s rolled to the edge of his bed.
When he blinks up at Bruce, the events of the day before come crashing back with alarming clarity. He goes rigid and Bruce immediately opens his eyes to check on him, pulling back slightly to give him space.
And that makes Jason’s chest hurt. Because everything that had made him uncomfortable Bruce had fixed. Because Jason had been telling Bruce what he didn’t like about him the whole time.
Jason had started to like Batman. He’d gotten dry reports about life in the alley from the guy but he’d also gotten questions about what more could be done to help out alley kids. He’d taken all of Jason’s brash criticism and actually tried to fix things. Jason had started to really like the guy.
And to now be faced with the fact that it was Bruce, the guy who read like, an actual newspaper in the morning and asked about his interests like he was having teeth pulled, it still couldn’t quite compute.
Bruce couldn’t seem to figure out if Jason was comfortable on the cot, so Jason solved his problem for him by tucking his face back into his shoulder. He knew they would have to talk about it. How Jason had been kidnapped and watched his- watched Bruce get shot and then cried about it. But that conversation was going to be exhausting, and his body wasn’t sending him into a panic being this close to Bruce, so he was going to enjoy it while it lasted.
Bruce seemed to get the message and started running his fingers through Jason’s hair again.
When Alfred came down with breakfast for the both of them, Jason knew his time was up. That they’d have to talk about it all. He wasn’t sure what they would do now that he knew, send him away? Or no, they’d need to make sure he never told anyone. Never let him leave?
Before Jason could spin out too badly, Bruce started explaining how he’d wanted to protect Jason by not telling him about his nightlife. How it was a dangerous secret to know since it could put people in danger.
Jason scoffed at that since he’d been abducted for his connections to Bruce Wayne, like that was any safer.
Bruce paled pretty quick at that but had that look on his face that said he was determined to get through this. Jason wondered which he actually preferred more, conversations or going to the dentist.
But Bruce continued to explain that he’d had concerns over Jason’s ability to trust adults and was entirely out of his depth on how to begin to repair that trust. That he thought Jason needed someone to talk to that would try and resolve his problems. And Batman could do what Bruce couldn’t. He had been scared Jason would run if he couldn’t convince him it would be safe, and that scared Bruce most of all.
And Jason had to acknowledge that Bruce wasn’t entirely wrong. He probably would have run if Batman hadn’t been checking up on him, at least in the beginning. Because Bruce didn’t make any sense. He wasn’t like any of the other adults Jason knew. His body wouldn’t calm down even if he knew he was safe, and he probably would have run from that feeling.
Most importantly, Bruce apologizes. For keeping secrets and also for getting shot in front of him in a “sorry you had to see that” sort of way.
And yeah, Jason could’ve done without watching the guy that’s almost his Dad get shot in front of him, but it wasn’t really anyone’s fault.
And Jason, like a dork, apologizes for crying on him and not being able to handle it.
That makes Bruce’s face do something complicated that Jason had a hard time reading.
Bruce tells him that it isn’t actually normal to not react to someone being shot in front of you. Especially for a child, crying is a very normal response and nothing to be ashamed of.
Jason comes to an odd realization that he isn’t the first kid to know Bruce’s identity. He remembers talk in the alley of Robin, the flashy distraction to Batman’s silent stalker approach.
He asks Bruce if Robin was Dick Grayson, his ward. The supposed “brother” he had yet to meet. He wasn’t sure what Bruce was waiting for there, but he supposed if the man wasn’t even sure if Jason actually wanted to stay that it would be fair that he was cautious about introducing him to everyone.
Bruce’s face shuts down almost entirely at the mention of Dick. He seems to catch himself pretty quick though and picks a spot over Jason’s shoulder as he starts to explain the last time he talked to Dick outside of mask business. How scared he had been his- his ward would be hurt. How he’d fired him from being Robin. How he’d gone off to Bludhaven to be Nightwing. That Bruce hadn’t seen him since he left.
Jason takes in as much of it as he can. He can’t quite process what it would mean to be a vigilante, to be Robin. He still feels dazed from yesterday and the environment of the cave is strange and foreign.
He asks what the plans for the day are and Bruce huffs. Says that hes on strict orders from Alfred for bed rest. That there will be conversations, a debrief, about what had happened, but that can wait a few days. They will also have to talk about formalizing Jason’s living situation here and registering him for school. All sorts of things, if Jason would like to stay.
And Jason does.
Later, Alfred comes in to re-wrap Bruce’s bandages and move him upstairs. Jason hovers awkwardly, wanting to help but not knowing what to do. Alfred gently directs him in helping get Bruce back to the living room. He says they can move him to his bedroom later but it’ll be easier on his mobility if he stays on the first floor for a while.
Alfred also informs them he had taken the liberty to inform Dick, Barbara, and Clark of the incident, so there will be patrol while Bruce’s shoulder is healing. Bruce goes rigid at this information.
Alfred asks if Jason will accompany him to the kitchen and help carry out their lunch.
When they’re alone, Alfred apologizes for keeping their identities from Jason, and how happy he is the boy is safe. He’d been so concerned yesterday at the car but hadn’t had time to do more than bug the vehicle.
They talk for a bit about identities and Jason accepts that it was kept from him, but now that he knows, he’ll stay in the loop.
Alfred also asks if he wouldn’t mind helping keep an eye on Bruce and make sure he doesn’t try and sneak back down to the cave without medical clearance. If he’d be alright to watch a movie in the living room with him, or a board game maybe.
Jason recognizes the ploy for what it is and plays along, grateful he doesn’t have to go worry by himself in his room or in the library.
When they bring the food out to the living room, Alfred shows Jason their selection of movies and makes sure they’re settled in before going off to take care of dishes.
Jason and Bruce start out sitting on opposite ends of the couch, but by the end of the second movie, Jason is stretched out in a way where they’re almost touching, a pile of pillows separating them.
Jason falls asleep during the third movie.
Dick arrives at the manor halfway through the fourth.

thinking about how buck believes—to some extent—that he’s manipulating people into loving him. not maliciously, but through making himself become everything: the helper, the fixer—the one who shows up. he doesn’t think love just happens—he thinks he manufactures it, forces it somehow.
but eddie has always seen through to the truth of buck—or at least, attempted to. from the start, he’s met him with clarity and honesty—cutting through performance and looking straight at the person underneath.
and, perhaps most critically, eddie has kept showing—through words, through action—that buck, just as he is, has always been enough.

I love writing about female characters I love making them silly and flawed and hypercompetent and moral at the same time and watching fandom's brains explode because they're not one dimensionally chill and supportive or mustache twirling evil and are allowed be jerks and overreact and make mistakes and still be good people worth rooting for or not even good just Interesting. This is very fun to do in male centered fandoms because sometimes they get so confused and scared like no she's supposed to be Nice to my fave guys why isn't she validating them and being supportive? Why are you letting her exist like that? She's being mean to my blorbo she needs to either be written as evil or erased from the narrative.
And every time I see that I get more determined to either make her meaner and have everyone support her or erase your blorbo from the narrative. She doesn't think about him at all actually he's irrelevant to the story now. Yeah sorry to break it to you she made him cry and everyone told her good job so he left the country. Also she's got a girlfriend and they're going to fuck in his house which is theirs now that he no longer exists.

Thinking about the clerics of the Ratgrinders
I guess I just had the thought of “What if Lucy was watching everything happen?” And just how she would feel looking at Buddy and his excitement. Lucy watching as Buddy went through (presumably) the same as she did. Buddy being unaware of the depth of Lucy’s tragedy. Being so hopeful and enthusiastic to help people, and Kipperlilly is “brilliant”. And Helio would never steer him the wrong way.
The Ratgrinders didn’t deserve you two, maybe the High 5 Heroes did.

I’m genuinely so fucking sick of the “you all would have loved it if it was Eddie who made that comment” take.
First of all, Eddie wouldn’t have made comment then, bc he knows how hard it is for Buck to talk about his emotions, & is REALLY good at giving him the space to talk about them, even if he does make jokes, they’re not out of pocket (the coming out scene, anyone? Breaking the tension with a joke & still being supportive without making a joke of his feelings.)
Secondly, even if Eddie DID make that comment, I’d probably still roll my eyes, but I’d be more willing to accept it. Do you wanna know why???
Who was the person that knew the details of what Buck was talking to his therapist about during their emergency session before the Buckley’s visit? Who is the first one they show at Buck’s side when he gets stuck in the warehouse trying to pull Saleh out after learning about Daniel?? Who is the one who was pacing downstairs in the station & making sure Buck was okay after the warehouse, and the one who warned him about his visitors??
Who was the one praying at Bobby’s bedside, right next to Buck in the hospital?
(I’ll give you a hint, it’s not the dude that’s had 10 minutes of fucking screen time that everyone forgot about post s1.)
It wouldn’t have been the same bc TOMMY AND EDDIE ARE NOT THE SAME. They are not on the same level of knowing Buck & understanding when to make jokes & what jokes to make. Your best friend, partner & co-parent of 6 years and the man that you haven’t even called your boyfriend yet are not on the same level of familiarity.
I get that you’re pissed that Tommy is being compared to Buck’s previous love interests (which would be the case, even if he wasn’t just as shitty & uninterested in Buck as a person as they all were) but if you genuinely think that he’s anywhere near Eddie’s level, EVEN PLATONICALLY, then I fear that you have been watching another show entirely, & I encourage you to watch more than just s7, bc that’s the only explanation I can come up with for why this fuck ass take exists.

getting a little maybe irritated at how often i see autistic will being refuted because he "made himself out to be that way to avoid attention" ... ??? that's autistic. going out of his way to make yourself appear weird and unsociable so you can avoid socializing is. extremely autistic. lying and exaggerating about yourself out of fear of people getting too close and realizing youre a bad person is extremely autistic. the show honestly backpedals on will's empathy half the time, acting like it is only applicable when it comes to his job, but frequently showing that it isn't. in the first episode, hannibal literally notices his face getting red because they're near two people who are arguing. he's not exaggerating or faking his nightmares, his inability to deattach himself from others. yeah, he's got a complicated psychological profile that autism doesn't entirely cover or explain. that doesn't mean he's not still autistic. his person suit, the person he presents himself as to others, the choice to do that autistic masking. even if part of his masking is hiding behind being autistic in hopes it will make him less favorable to others and not further inspected, that is autistic masking. i think it is so insanely annoying that just because a character wasn't written with the intent in mind doesnt mean you cant accidentally write a valid representation of something anyways. fuller didn't intend on hannigram becoming as romantic as it did, but understood that it came along with the subtext anyways. acting like hes completely above fitting criteria of mental illness because he's "fictional" and has a "fictional" disorder that HIGHLY exemplifies autism is. incredibly stupid. and boring
#“his autism is fake and he uses it to protect himself” okay buddy well he seems pretty autistic to me even after that so idk#i guess hes faking his intense specific interests that he maintains when hes completely alone#i guess the ridiculous efforts he goes to to mask and hide himself from others out of fear of them getting close. is just for fun#like he can have his evil other thing going on and also be super fucking autistic about how hes handling it#also!!! kind of think its disgusting to say “oh he was pretending to be autistic to seem weaker”. . okay.#weird fucking perspective#he subconsciously mirrors the people around him even when theres no real benefit to it#his sense of justice is extremely strong which is why he is so perturbed by his violent inclinations#like. you know autistic people can also be manipulative and psychotic and kill people and commit crime. right#its important to me that you know that#hes neurodivergent and i just think its stupid to look at someone who obviously has a comorbid thing going on#and go well! hes completely undiagnosable and inscrutable!!!!!!!!#and like sorry to bryan fuller but the perspective that hes not autistic seems to come from a. severe misunderstanding of asd#like for some reason hyperempathy is the OPPOSITE of autism. like . no it comes with your fucking xbox actually#obviously theyre written with human complexity that would make them difficult to fully diagonse or understand#autistic people arent a list of check boxes. we simply have recurring traits that present differently based on choice and circumstance#im talking in circles atp. hes autistic. idgaf#if you wanna disagree with me on some narrative moral high ground about how crazy complex it is and hes actually yadada#door. im good man#hannibal#will graham#charlieog#cant be autistic if youre faking being a better person than you are#cant be autistic if you try to shape yourself into harmlessness for fear of your violent desires#cant be autistic if youre hyperaware of social interaction and try to use it to protect yourseld#while simultaneously not entirely understanding how normal people interact anyways#cant be autistic if you're prone to manipulation and constantly shifting degrees of empathy for others#starts bashing my head into the wall

A.J Pollard’s biography on Edward IV was so cringe lol (generic; minor but frustrating inaccuracies; intensely judgmental at times and oddly dismissive at others while never considering the broader context; entirely diminished and trivialized Elizabeth Woodville as both queen and wife of his main subject in the name of "defending" her; created a false dichotomy between Edward and Henry VII’s styles of ruling and lauded the latter at the former’s expense even though Henry literally followed Edward’s example for the very things Pollard was criticizing Edward for; had a downright nonsensical and thoroughly misleading conclusion about Edward’s legacy & Richard’s usurpation that was based entirely on hindsight, Pollard's own assumptions, and the complete downplaying Richard’s agency and actions to emphasize what Pollard wrongly and misleadingly claimed were Edward's so-called 'failings', etc, etc)
I wanted to buy his book on Henry V but after reading this shitshow and the synopsis of that book, im guessing it's going to be 10x worse, so...no thanks
#history media#this was written months ago im posting it to get it out of my drafts#it wasn't necessarily BAD. it was generic and readable. but it was very disappointing and misleading and its conclusion was just nonsense#listen I have no patience for the dumbfuck idea that edward somehow had the ultimate responsibility for his own son's deposition because#of his 'policies' during his reign. like I said it's based fully on hindsight and entirely devoid of actual context. it's bafflingly stupid#literally everyone expected Edward V to succeed his father and 'both hoped for and expected' (Croyland's own words) a successful reign#Edward V's deposition was richard and solely Richard's fault lol this should not be difficult to understand#the reason Richard's usurpation was possible in the first place was bcause everyone expected E5 to succeed and didn't expect Richard#do to what he did. nothing would have happened without his initiative and decisions. it had nothing to do with Edward's 'policies'#Edward's policies were fine. henry vii - who pollard vaunts to no end - literally *followed* them#and claiming that he failed to unite England under the Yorkist dynasty is just plain stupid#buddy if he truly failed at that then neither Richard III nor Henry VII would have thrones lol. both emphasized continuity with#him when aiming for the throne. like the whole point of 1483-85 was that it was a conflict WITHIN the 'Yorkist' dynasty#it was not an external threat against it.#'his legacy failed' his legacy didn't fail his brother destroyed it (while also presenting himself as his heir because logic what's logic?)#henry's victory was very much the triumph of his legacy (a claimant chosen by his supporters as the husband of his daughter)#like this is really not my interpretation it is literally what happened#i'm not trying to glorify e4 but his son did inherit the throne in a more advantageous circumstances than any other minor king of england#and frankly than most other adult kings. dumping blame on Edward's literal corpse rather than acknowledge Richard's agency is so tasteless#the problem isn't that edward made a mistake in trusting his brother. many other kings including Henry V also trusted theirs.#the problem is that his brother was willing to break that trust in a way that was unprecedented and broke all political norms of that age#ie: Richard's usurpation occurred because of Richard who re-ignited conflict to make himself king. please drill this into your head#also btw this illogical 'interpretation' is based entirely on Charles Ross' hatred and derision towards Elizabeth Woodville and her family#if you agree with this inteterpretation you agree with his vilification of them 🤷🏻‍♀️#anyway if you want a better interpretation that's actually analytical and looks a relevant rather than a flawed retrospective perspective#i would recommend rosemary horrox's 'richard iii: a study of service' and david horspool's 'richard iii: a ruler and his reputation'#anyway one last time: STOP downplaying Richard's agency and actions. historians who do this are stupid and embarrassing. bye.#(i should really post horspool's glorious takedown of ross and Pollard huh? it was very entertaining to read)

Prompt 19: Benediction (the utterance or bestowing of a blessing, especially at the end of a religious service)
The commission of the Prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 6:1-7)
It's a simple one today, but I like how it turned out!!! ! wanted to have some contrast between humans and angels in their Colossal Forms, buuuut I didn't wanna draw an Entire Twenty-Something Foot Angel while comparing it to a Teeny-Tiny Six Foot Human, so here we are: GIANT HAND AND ANGEL BLOOD. The original story had the angel touch Isaiah with a live coal, but considering my lore for angel blood I figured I could swap it out no problem. Burning blood, live coal, either way Isaiah's lips are gettin burnt.
Tumblr media
Not much character lore for this one, but I have named the angel pictured Eladeth, and I love him very much
Tenth day, nineteenth prompt, see y'all on the twenty first with "Lily"
