05/05/2025 Progress Update:

TLDR: Finished section 3. Changed around the ending of the section and snipped some things.

Didn't have a ton of time so I only got to finishing section 3 today. A lot of it was reworking. Initially, I had the conversation at the end of this section pretty damn short, like three lines sort of short. But I decided to expand it because I felt the weight of what we learn deserved more attention. It's still a relatively short conversation, but it's more fleshed-out now.

I did go through the entirety of the edited sections yesterday evening and snipped quite a bit. Mostly adjectives. I have a bad habit of putting two adjectives before a noun lol, and most often it's just not needed. So we're at a net negative, a little under 38K now.

Still tentative this weekend for finished edit. Then beta. I wanted to work on very late komahina week thing or mermay while it's being beta'd, but I may take a small break. We'll see, you know by now I have a difficult time *not* writing. It relaxes me lol

I just saw a lady on instagram talking about controversial things in books she likes, and one of them was long chapters. I didn't know that was controversial but sure but the thing is. The book she used as an example. For a book with long chapters. Was les mis.

Are the templars also werewolves? Or is it just Monro? Or was that drawn purely for silly?

Monro's gonna be Shay's one and only werewolf pal, and both have to adjust to the idea of Not Being the Only One Anymore ™️- that being said Monro isn't the only wolf in the colonies, not even in the army. He'll run with a collection of others once in a while but he's his own little enigma to the larger wolf community too.

(He misses his family pack back in Ireland, and hasn't had the time nor interest to find a new one since he left in his late teens.)

One thing only appears to be certain, and that is that Mr. James Desmond, who is the next heir, is an elderly gentleman of a very amiable disposition, so that this persecution does not arise from him. I really think that we may eliminate him entirely from our calculations. 

Fact, according to Sherlock Holmes: amiable eldery gentlemen do not commit crime (???)

We got some info about the new ending theme and comments from the VAs of Liko, Roy and Dot about the upcoming chapter, Rayquaza Rising (translation here).

Liko's VA comments on Liko's growth during the Terastal Debut chapter and looks forward to going on new adventures with the Rising Volt Tacklers.

Roy's VA mentions Roy's growth as well and hints that we will be getting a lot of answers in regards to Rakua, the Rakurium, Lucius and the Six Heroes in this chapter.

Dot's VA mentions that the characters will be faced with the truth behind the mysteries, and also hints at Kanuchan's upcoming evolution.

while i was still reading the questions arc i was aware that a lion ushiromiya was supposed to show up at some point and then on ep. 4 when they first said rosa made a lion stuffed animal i immediately thought "oohhh lion ushiromiya! :D" like a dumbass and got very confused when maria named it sakutaro. and then when they gave him a human form i thought "aaahh NOW he's lion ushiromiya! :D" again like a dumbass

Kizuna ran her fingers over the faded scar on her stomach. It had been so many years since her best friend told her that, but it kept her going.

Her beauty had stopped meaning so much to her after that. She stopped wearing so much makeup. She stopped with the intense skin care routines and let her skin wrinkle and blemish. The moment she got her first gray hair, she accepted it.

Hell, she didn't even care about the stretch marks that appeared on her thighs and belly. It was natural, and she loved it.

If Kanata had taught her anything, it was that it was okay to not be perfect. She didn't have to struggle up the mountain to reach her mother's expectations, and that... that's what mattered most to her.

"Kizuna!," Ayame called from down the hall, "are you just about ready? It's Akira's wedding today, we gotta get there early!"

The pinkette tore her gaze from the mirror, a sorrowful sigh escaping her lips. "I'm coming, dear! Just tying up my hair!"

Ayame grunted playfully at that, but no more was said.

"Kanata," Kizuna whispered to the mirror after a bit, "i hope you're proud of me. I've changed, I've become better... your sacrifice wasn't for nothing. Thank you for believing in me."

And then she headed on her way, to celebrate something-- someone-- that she was most proud of.

Her daughter.

Like wow i don't even know what to say, the way you wrote Kizuna accepting the effects of aging without trying to hide them or look younger all because of how much Kanata helped her get through this kind of mindset, and how she's still very dear to her even tho she's been dead for a long time now,, that's just so sweet

Akira being someone she's so proud of is awesome too because i love picturing Kizuna wanting to be the best mother she can to her even if she screws up at times. Knowing first hand how it is to grow up with shitty parents, she wants to give her something she didn't had growing up :]

Also I remembered that I hadn't yet talked about Bonnie's deal in the killing game, despite him being one of the survivors, so I might as well talk about it now.

The thing about Bonnie is that he kind of shuts off a lot from the rest of the group. While the others all form their own little cliques, he's more on the distrustful side, and tends to keep to himself so as to not make himself a possible target- he's already been a target for bullies most of his life, he'd rather not become a target for murderers now. Despite that, he does end up making two friends over the course of the killing game: Bon and Fox. Both of which are somewhat similar to how it happened in canon.

With Bon, they start hanging out pretty early on since Bonnie is a hobbyist guitar player, and he asks Bon to give him some advice. At which Bon figures out that Bonnie is actually, uh, way too advanced to be called a hobbyist. Advanced enough to threaten his status as the Ultimate Guitarist player, with just how good he is (Bonnie jokes that he got that way from playing so much Guitar Hero. Bon isn't amused). They form a rivalry from then on, frequently spending time together practicing and making up stupid challenges to one up each other. Bonnie teaches Bon how to be better at videogames in return, since he sucks at most of them. I'm keeping Bon's crush on Bonnie, but I'm not sure if it'll be requited or not...

With Fox it comes down mostly to them having a similar sense of humor, and a small degree of necessity- Bonnie knows his chances of living all the way to the end are low, so he's hoping that sticking next to the tallest and strongest guy in the class will keep him safe. Meanwhile, Fox is not really all that observant or smart, so he's banking on Bonnie keeping an eye out for any trouble or anything that might later be useful for a trial. A brains and brawn duo, you could say.

Of course, all this means that when Fox kills Bon on Chapter 4, he... Doesn't take it very well. He's already been pulling away from the group more and more as the tensions rise, and this becomes his final straw- because for the entirety of Chapter 5, Bonnie is locked in his room. He raided the kitchen the night of the trial to stock his room full of snacks, and is planning on staying there for as long as needed. Mostly, he's just lost faith in the group, and is fully expecting them to continue killing each other until the game ends because only two players remain. The only time he leaves his room is for the next class trial, since attendance is mandatory... And boy does that trial not give him much hope for the future.
