get to know me tag
thanks to @studyingjames for tagging me!
Rules: answer 20 questions and tag 20 followers you would like to get to know better.
Name: Erin
Nickname: My mom calls me “ErBear” and my dad calls me “Eri” (air-ee). My little brother (6th grade now) has always called me “sister”
Zodiac sign: Libra
Height: 5′5 maybe?
Languages spoken: I’m a native English speaker. I also speak German, but it’s a little rusty atm. I took 4 years of it in high school, and was the President of the German Club. I’m considering a minor in it.
Favorite fruit: bananas or strawberries
Favorite season:Spring!
Favorite scent: I love the smell inside of a Panera’s.
Favorite color: Recently I’ve become a little obsessed with shades of blue
Favorite animal: Don’t make me choose. I have two dogs (Louie and Lucie) and a horse (his name is Clue). But I love all animals.
Coffee, tea, hot chocolate: Coffee, coffee, and more coffee.
Average hours of sleep: Sometimes I only get about 4 hours, but then other times I do good and get 6-7 hours throughout the day. I make up for my lack of night-time sleep by taking naps. I’m a night person so it’s hard for me to fall asleep.
Favorite fictional character: Sydney Carton in “A Tale of Two Cities” - Charles Dickens
No. of blankets you sleep with: This is weird but I actually sleep on top of two blankets (because my mattress is crazy rigid), and then underneath a big fluffy one. It was the best decision I have ever made, my bed is so comfy.
Dream trip: I would love to go to Germany some day.
Blog created: I just started this blog 4 days ago (3/26/18) and I am already overwhelmed by the motivation, support, creativity, and love from the studyblr community. With that being said, I have had numerous blogs here and there since 2012.
Favorite song: Any song by Fall Out Boy.
Favorite artists: I love Fall Out Boy. My favorite band of all time. But I also love Neil Diamond (I’ve been to two of his concerts bless) and Noel Gallagher/Oasis.
Favorite books: The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini, and The Underground Girls of Kabul: A Search For Resistance in Afghanistan - Jenny Nordberg

Fall Study Challenge (tranqilstudy)
I've decided to partake in @tranquilstudy's fall study challenge on top of the 30 Days of Productivity. I've been in a bit of a study slump this semester which has led to a lot of procrastination and anxiety around school, so I'm hoping to find motivation and inspiration over the next month of rigorous studying and group projects I have.
Day 1: A bit about myself
My name is Beth and I'm currently in my last semester at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. My major is a pretty obscure major (only 16 schools have the program in the country) which is PGA Professional Golf Management. As a woman in the golf industry, I've been given some pretty cool opportunities that have allowed me to explore many different career paths in the industry.
Through various internships, where I've lived in Massachusetts, South Dakota, South Carolina, North Carolina, and soon California, I've been able to find my passion and niche in golf. I quickly found that tournament operations and women's golf is my passion - I love being able to promote the game of golf with a focus towards inspiring young girls and women in the game. Being able to experience working in the golf industry has been the best part of my life so far - the people I've met and the work I've done has been incredible.
Over the next month, I have quite a few group projects I'll be working on (hospitality marketing, turf grass management, food & beverage management, and PGA golf management) while also studying for some major PGA tests that I'm required to pass before being able to graduate. I'm super pumped to use this fall challenge and the 30 days productivity challenge to keep myself motivated and be able to truly see my progress over the month.
Today's goal: I started today by having a goal of finishing my golf operations notes, answering my question packets for Golf Operations and Supervising/Delegating, and I'm very happy that I was able to accomplish these while also understanding the content.

Day 5: Do you usually like art for its beauty or its meaning?
I tend to like art for its beauty, but meaning is always cool, too. generally, though, I enjoy viewing pieces that portray people instead of situations or pieces that have a very deep meaning that requires a lot of interpretation. I think that this is more due to my lack of visual art knowledge - I love researching new topics and I believe if I put in time with understand visual arts better then this would change for me.

Day 2: What is something you want to learn more about?
I would love to learn more about European history...which is such a large and long-lasting subject. I've been lucky enough to travel to Europe a few different times and the architecture, cathedrals, and museums have always been intriguing to me. It's crazy to imagine that you can step on the same paths that Caesar did or you step foot into the same cathedrals as kings and queens did hundreds of years ago. I look back on visiting Scotland, England, Italy, and other places and wish I knew more about the history and culture when I visited.

day 8: do you read? if you do, what are some of your favorites?
i don't read a ton these days - work and school tend to make it hard for me to take the time - but when i'm on vacation or on a flight i love to read. i'm a huge fan of crime/law/suspense books. i'm currently in the process of re-reading the entire harry potter series, but i also enjoy reading john grisham and david baldacci books.
today i had to attend a business simulation seminar that's required for my degree. it involved 5 different university programs and i happened to have some friends from south carolina on the call. it was really cool seeing how little changes in an operational budget could impact revenues and consumer activity within the golf business.

30 Days of Productivity
Days 3 and 4:
What is a hobby you want to take up?
I'd love to get back into singing classically again. I used to be very involved in choir (high school, college, and nationally) but have kind of put that passion of mine on the back burner since getting into the golf industry. I've always thought music is a great outlet for emotions and music is just such a fun form of art - nothing compares to singing a very emotional piece with a group of fellow singers and connecting to the same piece in different ways.
Where would you like to be in five years time?
I would love to be working with the United States Golf Association as an operations coordinator for the U.S. Women's Open. If this isn't possible - USGA positions are tough to come by because they keep a pretty small team - I would love being a tournament director either on the PGA Tour or the LPGA Tour.

Fall Study Challenge (transquilstudy)
Day 2: What was the last book you finished?
Back in July while on vacation with my family, I decided to read through as much of the Harry Potter series as I could (for probably the fifth time, lol). I got through the Prisoner of Azkaban, and unfortunately haven't read any books since. I can't wait for winter break where I'll hopefully finish up a few more books in the series while I spend some time relaxing.
Today I'm grateful for my family - it's been a very tough semester for me mentally, so it's been huge to have my family's support the past few weeks. They've reminded me on my accomplishments and future endeavors I'm lucky to have. Additionally, it's my birthday today so I feel very grateful for my friends and family that are helping me celebrate a bit.

Wow...it has been a very long time since I've posted anything on my blog. A little life update - I spent the entire last school year away from classes and working out in my industry. I had an amazing time working at a high-end golf resort and then spending about seven months working in operations for the U.S. Women's Open. i had an absolute blast working, but now it's time to finish up my last semester of college classes.
30 Days of Productivity Challenge
Day 1: What are you studying in college?
I am in my last semester of college as a PGA Professional Golf Management major at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Golf has always been a passion of mine and I've been lucky enough to work at amazing courses over the past 4 years. Within the golf industry, my passion is to elevate the women's game of golf, whether this was while teaching junior golf, helping run the North & South Women's Amateur, or while working in Championship Operations for the U.S. Women's Open.

fall study challenge (@tranquilstudy)
Days 3 and 4:
What types of books are you interested in?
My go-to books on a vacation are legal/crime dramas. I've become a huge fan of John Grisham and David Baldacci - it also helps that my dad owns every single one of their books so I'm never running out of options.
When was the last time you had a life-changing revelation?
I can't really pinpoint the last time I had a life-changing revelation...for me I seem to reflect the most of where I am/where I've come from whenever I get offered a new job or internship opportunity. I have always pushed myself to apply to bigger/better internships each year with the mentality of my last job being my "dream job" so what's the next dream. This has always helped me stay in the moment and truly embrace all of the amazing opportunities I've been blessed to experience. Being able to reflect on the past and how so many people have helped me get to where I am now really keeps me grounded and thankful for my community of friends, family, and mentors.
Today, my goal is to stay productive. I have two big tests this week and another two looming over my head. I worked myself a little too hard last week and ended up having a 24-hour migraine from yesterday into early this morning. So, after yesterday being a rest day, I'm ready to get back into the full swing of things.

sorry i've been busy studying and just haven't taken any pictures lately so i'm a bit behind...
day 11: do you have a favorite musical artist or song?
i listen to a pretty wide variety of music (from folk to americana to broadway) but my go to artist that i never get tired would definitely have to be brandi carlile.
day 12: do you prefer taking notes on paper or digitally?
definitely paper...i've never felt productive when i take notes digitally and i've just found that i better comprehend the content better with a piece of paper and a pen.

are you a tea person or a coffee person? or neither?
i am definitely not a tea person...but i also don't consider myself a coffer person per say. i drink a decent amount of coffee, especially while studying, but i would say I drink more diet mountain dews and energy shots than i do coffee. but, my go-to coffee order these days is between a caramel macchiato and the salted caramel cream cold brew from starbucks.
what is your go-to song/playlist for studying?
depending on my mood, i'll either put on my chill playlist that is a mix of all of my comfort songs/artists (brandi carlile, noah cyrus, renee rapp, and other similar styles of music) or i will just put on the harry potter soundtracks.

well, today i spent my time studying at the campus library in my home town...i haven't studied here for at least 4 years (back when i attended school here). it was weird being back in this library, but i've been pretty productive so far.

i created my blog alllll the way back in january of 2017. i've been very sporadic on actually posting - i usually go through a few months at a time of posting and then stop for about a year. when i use my blog for studyblr stuff, i have found myself to be the most productive, so maybe that's a sign to continuously using my blog, lol...

Fall Study Challenge (@tranquilstudy)
Days 5, 6, and 7
It's been a busy week of being back on campus for a few days for stuff and then heading back home to be productive before the holidays - here are a few snapshots of my life since Monday.
Cut up some fruit for yourself. What fruit did you pick and why?
I don't have a picture, but I ate some oatmeal for breakfast this morning and put some brown sugar and strawberries on top.
Do you find yourself procrastinating? What are you procrastinating right now?
I procrastinate easily - I find it mostly happens when I'm feeling very overwhelmed or anxious about what I need to do. Currently I am writing this post to procrastinate some readings I have for class...it's about sustainability on golf courses and the pros and cons of having a more environmentally efficient and friendly golf course.
What do you think defines a person's character?
Personally, I value kindness more than anything. Don't get me wrong, I love being sarcastic and such but that's a level of communication I believe needs to be reserved for close friends and family that I've known for a very long time. You can tell a lot about a person with how they treat you or other people when they barely know the person. I've never gotten along with people that are rude or passive aggressive when I first meet them, and I try to be kind and friendly every time I'm meeting someone new.
A great example of this was a time I was working in Massachusetts at a private golf course - I had to approach a member I didn't know to ask them to end their phone call quickly because we did not allow phones on the golf course. After this interaction with the member I found out that they are a CEO of a very big golf company and I was so thankful that I handled myself professionally and we ended up having some great conversations after that interaction.
With this being said, treat everyone with kindness and care. We never know what another person is going through and your kindness to a stranger might make their day or give them hope for something they are going through.
🎵: Don't tell my mom | Renee Rapp
