Wearing skirts isn't an adaptive preference! Or is it?...
For some reason when we mentioned "skirts" in one sentence with "adaptive preferences" it caused a looot of questions on youtube... So, let's put all the dots on the i, and I (Heaven) will tell you why I consider skirts to be an adaptive preference
1) Historical context.
Skirts used to be the only option. Trousers are much more difficult to sew than a tube with an elastic band, many simply tied a piece of cloth around their waists. Both men and women. Later, trousers became more common, they began to be produced more, and they became especially popular because of riding. Since riding a horse (and working) was considered a man's business, trousers were also assigned to men. And skirts gradually turned into a symbol of domesticity and at the same time into a female symbol. Notice how men switched to functional and comfortable clothes and then did not want to return to skirts and dresses.
2) Here we smoothly move on to the second point — inconvenience.
Short skirt (and I even include midi length here) is a constant risk of exposing the underwear and a mental load of monitoring the position of the skirt. A long skirt either has a narrow hem that hinders movement, or a semi-sun pattern that gets in the way of your legs. In winter, a skirt is a way to freeze EVERYTHING off, but in summer... Is it cooler in a skirt? No. That's not true. There are loose shorts made of thin fabric, which differ from skirts only by two additional seams, but with the help of these seams they increase comfort a hundred times and allow you to at least sit calmly. Plus, many women have chafing thighs in skirts. And if you're wearing shorts under a skirt, then there's literally no point in a skirt. Useless decoration that only adds pressure to the abdominal area. You can write an essay about how skirts are more comfortable, but I won't believe it until you can't run, jump, climb, and sit in this skirt without squeezing your legs or pressing the fabric to your knees. As long as you have to check if it hasn't lifted after going to the bathroom, or have to wrap it around your legs on the escalator — I won't believe it.
Also upskirting — an attempt to take an upskirt photo. Unfortunately, this is a common issue, but women can protect themselves from such an attack by simply wearing shorts. And I'm not saying that women wearing skirts are to blame if someone tries to look under their skirt!!! The opportunity to protect yourself ≠ responsibility for the assault. Ten disclaimers: I don't do victimblaming! And there's a difference between fighting for the really good things that men spoil (like going braless at the risk of harassment) and putting yourself at pointless risk for the sake of... beauty? I REPEAT: walking without a bra (if you don't need it specifically for physical breast support) is cool and I don't care about men's ideas about it, but walking in a skirt is uncomfortable, so why put yourself in a more vulnerable position for this?
Last disclaimer: women are NOT to blame for upskirting. Not a single drop. If it weren't for men, this problem would literally not exist.
3) Women are still sometimes openly forced to wear skirts.
Examples: girls can only wear dresses to a performance, or skirts are prescribed in the work dress code for women, or in some educational institutions girls still have to wear skirts. At the same time, boys and men calmly walk around in their pants.
Plus, although women can wear pants in everyday life, they are expected to appear in a skirt in a formal or festive setting. How many women wear pants to events like weddings, birthdays, or met gala? Little, very little. Moreover, the appearance in this form is called scandalous, revolutionary, or at least simply unusual.
That's why I refuse to wear skirts when I have a choice.
4) Gender separation — the skirt forms an obvious silhouette that allows you to distinguish a woman from a man in a split second. Even when they want to mark the difference with signs, they draw an ordinary person and a person in a skirt, implying that the second one is a woman.
Men wear practical clothes, while women wear decorative ones. Because women should please the eye, and men are allowed to watch and not pay anything for this performance, but that's not all. Women must be different, because difference is the basis of submission. It certainly sounds like a conspiracy theory to anyone who is not too familiar with the theory of feminism, but just think about it: unchanged women and men look about the same. If we wore the same hairstyles, the same clothes, and had the same habits in speech and gestures, it would be much harder to separate us. Add to this the same diet and physical activity, and the majority of the population will be indistinguishable. Of course, some women would still be easy to identify by their large breasts, but this is not such a large percentage, it would not divide humanity in half. With the help of beauty practices, women must independently create/emphasize the difference — to apply their mark of the oppressed class. And when women are so emphatically different, it creates the feeling that we are naturally different and, therefore, naturally occupy a different (at the same time subordinate) place in society.
Disclaimer number 47254002: I do not suggest that all women cut off their breasts and glue their beards so as not to differ from men! I'm not suggesting making men a model of a human, and I'm not trying to be like men!!!! It's just that in our ****** ** society, everything basic and universal is male, and female is modified. And I don't want to abuse my body for the sake of being more in line with the patriarchal view of a woman.
5) Skirts are a part of femininity.
Why can a woman wear men's clothes without public condemnation, but a man can't wear women's clothes? Maybe because men (who are human in patriarchy, unlike women) look ridiculous and humiliating in women's clothes? Come on, tell me it's just social prejudice, and actually a couple of Korean male idols were wearing skirts and crop tops. But why don't teenage boys walk the streets in the summer in tops that neatly frame their chests and low-cut shorts, which are only a couple of centimeters different from panties?
I wrote in more detail about femininity in one of the previous posts. I believe that it oppresses and dehumanizes women, so I refuse to participate in it. I gave up long hair, makeup, heels, painted nails, shy giggling at vile "compliments," and I gave up skirts.
Conclusion: I don't forbid anything to anyone. I literally don't have that kind of power. I share my thoughts and experiences and the things that have made my life better. I believe it's useful for women to reflect on adaptive preferences and refuse to follow them. If you agree with me, it's cool, let's do it together!) If you don't agree — this is your civil right, and my word (unfortunately) is not law. But I would be interested in hearing your opinion! That's it, thanks for reading this bunch of words, have a nice life! 🤍

Portraying Sera’s sadness was honestly the first time I had an issue with portraying her expressions. I didn’t just want sera to look sad, i also wanted her to look tired.
One look at her face and you can tell it’s been eating her up inside for centuries.
The sketch to lineart phase was a bit of a challenge, because she looked too clean in the line-art process. So instead I had her eyes sketched in, not full of life or intensity like her usual expressions. Just exhaustion.
#txt#monsters and girls#its one of the rare times where i prefer the sketch more. but i think i adapted decently#theres something about representing feelings through sketch lines that clean lineart doesnt capture

while I do like the added dialogue between Sally and Percy in the minotaur scene, namely Sally's speech to Percy telling him to hold fast, I really wish the scene had more of the urgency that it did in the book. Like Grover's heavily injured to the point of incoherency, Sally and Percy literally have to drag him up the hill, and that's when they're overtaken by the minotaur. In the show, having them all come to a grinding standstill and Grover being fully alert like "sorry I know we're being chased by certain death but your mom's human so she can't come :/" was kind of adflksadfjasdf
oh and in the book Percy doesn't immediately pass out. Instead, Percy doesn't let himself until he's hauled Grover over the boundary line and all the way to the big house because he needs help and it's only then does Percy finally collapse. and idk just the imagery of it all -- Percy crying for help, for his mother -- it always stuck with me and I wish they hadn't taken it out.
#listen I know even the book Sally was like /I can't go on the property/#but theoretically Grover could have granted her permission the same way Annabeth does for Tyson in som#Grover was just literally passed out and could not#so having Grover be awake and just be like /yeah that's a bummer huh/ made him seem strangely apathetic to it lmaoo#also I'm not saying the scene was bad!!! my gripes are mostly personal preference#I think the added dialogue with sally and percy was beautiful and could have been woven into a more book accurate portrayal of the scene#sally jackson#pjo adaptation#pjo#percy jackson#grover underwood#mine

An excuse to draw my favorite characters? Of course I'll take it, thank you very much.
#I was going to do anime only but then... Prof. Layton is mainly games (with damn good cutscenes)#with only 1 movie and a spin-off that isn't about him#And I have only finished the manga for Pluto (... 4 times) because I know I'll cry so hard at the anime adaptation I'll get a headache#So in reality it is a non live-action list#because if it was live-action it would only have GO and ST... but I do plan on doing a live-action version when I have time#I could yap about my favorite anime/manga/games/whatever forever so I'll stop here but let it be known I'm a big fan of silly guy in top ha#ALSO ALSO I almost forgot but although I really like the new design for Kusuriuri in the new movie I prefer the older one...#Idk why but I felt like he didn't fit in as much as before? Whilst overall I prefer the manga to the anime, there's one aspect that I think the anime does better - the very ending.
Compared to the manga's very compactly shown thoughts of the cast, the anime gives each of them a short scene.
But although that change already is great, what matters to me the most, is this added scene of Saiko.
Despite it being so short, it feels so fitting and important to Saiko's character, making its absence in the original seem wrong. (They also added Rifuta, though comparatively, her scene isn't so significant.)
#saiki kusuo#saiko meteori#rifuta imu#saiki k#tdlosk#the disastrous life of saiki k#i'm sure people must've said this before but i always think about this when reading through 281#although i prefer the anime's version i also think the original has its merits#i feel like putting (almost) all of the words/thoughts in one panel puts more focus on kusuo's feelings#and it also nicely shows how recognizable the characters are just by how they talk#but i think showing the characters one last time before the end works better as a send-off#(plus it works better visually for the anime)#and i'm glad the anime remembered about imu and saiko#this scene works well as a 'conclusion/ending' of sorts for saiko (though naturally it'd be better if there was more)#it'd feel more incomplete without it#the anime also added small bits of dialogue here such as toritsuka thinking “ i know you can't hear me” which is also a nice touch#i really like the epilogue and i find the anime's adaptation of it the best part of the anime#the anime rarely adds things; it mostly removes stuff#there are few added scenes in earlier seasons but it's really not as noticeable as the things they cut/shortened#but because the epilogue has a whole episode to itself - the pacing is much better allowing them to add additional stuff#on top of already adapting the manga well#ended up going on a small ramble by accident

Alithy Manips 2d animation edition (ft. Toto) with Walt Disney's Alice and Tom and Jerry's Dorothy Gale
I'll be pairing Disney Alice in Wonderland with Journey Back To Oz next
#tbh I prefer the live action ones where both characters are older at those adaptations#atleast old enough to explore in a romantic relationship#but since animated disney/non-disney are popular and more simpler than live action#might as well try something with that#speaking of older both Dorothy and Alice are around 13-15 in this manips#it takes a lot of photo stretching and effort to age them up#I think..#alithy#alice x dorothy#dorothy x alice#tom and jerry wizard of oz#disney alice in wonderland#femslash#disney/non disney#manip#edit#crossover#dorothy gale#walt disney#warner bros#disney alice#feel free to use#tom and jerry back to oz#disney crossover#disney femslash#sapphic

I just finished watching The Rose of Versailles (1979-80), a historical drama + queer-coded anime about a female commander named Oscar who serves as Royal Guard to Marie Antoinette leading up to the French Revolution, and basically it's the closest thing to an anime of the French Revolution (that I know of). This article does a nice job discussing the nuance of the different female characters (with good screenshots)!
A lot of historical figures make an appearance, and I was hoping for Lafayette - and he does show up (in episode 35)! I couldn't stop laughing. He's only a year older than Robespierre, but for some reason Robespierre looks all smooth and sparkly, while Lafayette... it's hard to find screenshots, but this video shows the historical figures and their counterparts side by side here!
#the rose of versailles#marquis de lafayette#maximilien robespierre#french revolution#18th century#😂 from their portraits I'm inclined to believe Lafayette looked better than Robespierre#the whole show is 40 episodes (it ends at the Storming of the Bastille) and is available (free) on pluto tv#I tried to take a screenshot but like other streaming services it doesn't let me#I tried to find a screenshot but screenshots of old shows are very hard to come by#now I can go watch the 2025 movie adaptation of The Rose of Versailles#anyway where's my amrev anime#preferably also queer-coded#rose of versailles#versailles no bara#one could make the argument that The Rose of Versailles was queerbaiting bc she ends up with a man (André) but#that type of argument disregards Antoinette and Rosalie - who both loved her#and who's to say André isn't a little gay for her living life as a man?

(this isn't a question about the best p&p adaptation ever, it is simply which you prefer OUT OF THESE TWO OPTIONS since they are the two most commonly talked about and compared!!)
#i didn't really talk about it when i watched it because i know the 1995 version is precious and beloved to many people (which i respect)#but i personally think it just doesn't hold a candle to the 2005 version#i know it's more directly book accurate but for me that's not a priority in an adaptation#if i want to spend several hours on a book accurate experience i'll just listen to the audiobook#so for me if it's a screen adaptation then visuals are key and 2005 is so beautiful whereas 1995 isn't particularly special in that regard#i also prefer the casting personally in terms of chemistry and on screen presence but i acknowledge that's partly just because we're usuall#attached to whichever cast we're first familiar with#anyway none of this is to actually dunk on the miniseries of course and it goes without saying that all p&p is good p&p!#just curious what the split is (and wanted to separate the options for only seeing one since i imagine more people have seen 2005)#polls

So i learned that the new Odyssey movie "the Return" won't feature the gods...
Hollywood make an accurate adaptation challenge failed again. No but seriously Hollywood is obsessed with Greek mythology and gods but the moment they want to make something out of Odyssey and Iliad, somehow the gods aren't there.
Why's that? Because it won't be taken seriously? A faithful adaptation of Homer's work?! The part that these epics happened in the first place because of the deities?
Especially Athena plays a MAJOR role on Odyssey's plot you can't just not have her.
#i am already feeling disappointed yet again#and the standards were already hitting low#studios taking liberties like that for what reason?#many people who love these epics would 1000% prefer to have an accurate adaptation#*sighs* disappointing#Odyssey

I think there's a distinct difference between 'I'm only writing this as a novel because I lack the resources to tell my story in any other format right now but this story would really work best in a more visual medium' and 'I am writing this because this story works best in the written form and will not translate to a visual medium.' and that it's really important you know which one you are.
There are pros and cons to each, and neither is better than the other; but it is really important to know which one you are.
I have also noticed that there has been a distinct and growing tendency to assume ALL written work is ONLY written because it lacks resources to be a more visual medium like film; that writing something is somehow 'lesser' than a visual adaptation, that all writers do or should want their book adapted to a screenplay, that this is a universal measure of success, when that is not and should not be the case.
Writing is itself a format, with its own identity. It isn't some kind of low-budget compromise.
#at this point I have adapted to the non-visual medium so well that you would lose a LOT adapting it to visual mediums#I have also gotten to the point where I prefer reading fiction that would not work as anything but words#Just like I prefer animation that would not work as anything else#and I prefer live action that would not work as anything else#and so forth

still thinking about how someone pointed out to me that 1634 are so special bc they want to play specifically with each other so badly, which is a bit diff from some other pairs in hockey.. like it's not just enough to play together sometimes... they're not content to just be on the same team and play the occasional powerplay shift or emergency situation, but like...... they pushed to play on a line together for years before they were allowed to regularly and only bc they got a new coach 😭......... and this year with auston penalty killing (at least pre-injury), they were trotting him out there with mitch during first pk shifts so it's LITERALLY an all situations thing.......... they just enjoy doing that together... all game. every game..... for years... 5v5, powerplay, penalty kill, 4v4, 3v3..... and still want it just as bad based on how often they get put back together/how quickly they do after slumps. it's so. insatiable.
and i feel like some people spin it to mean they're being selfish by not spreading the wealth or whatever, but that'd only really be applicable if mitch was a center and we just weren't playing his position/wasting him. the fact that they actually fit each other's style, a natural goal scorer and a natural playmaker, and already play to each other's strengths is so................... i'm thinking about the quote from odog during a panel last year where he talks about how helpful it is that mitch specifically is right handed and auston shoots left bc of how easy they can get it off their sticks to pass then shoot. and it's like how is handedness going to make me tear up right now.
#1634#anyway. i just love to think about them.#but ive rrlly been mulling that over bc liek a lot of great hockey pairings rlly dont actually play together necessarily like that#liek they are so............. specifically in tune and in sync#they ENJOY the way the other thinks the game... theyve adapted their own games to fit each others preferences#resulting in career years for both of them lol#even mitchs best goal scoring yr was next to auston like hellooooo hello#it just does not get old.#they are what they are because of each other etc etc

Does that mean you watched the new sonic movie?
If so, how did you like it?
Spoiler alert vvv
I have, and I did like it, but I dunno if I vibe with it as much as other people seem to do. TBF I've never loved the live action Sonic movies, they're decent enough but definitely not my favorite piece of Sonic media. That being said, this was probably my favorite out of the movies so far? They have improved a lot since the first one which is great to see.
One thing I think the movie did great was the action scenes, the coreography and animation was so fun and impactful and incredibly exciting to see! I also think the movie did a good job on selling us on Shadow's and Maria's friendship in a short period of time, that little montage of the two of them just doing a bunch of silly goofy shenanigans was really endearing. The wholesome innonsence of it all makes Maria's death hurt way more.
EXTRA spoiler, but arguably one of the things that made me the most excited in ghe movie was the post credit scene where Amy showed up LMAOOOO I've been waiting for her to show up. And I exepcted Metal Sonic to show up sooner or later in these movies, but I didn't expect a whole army of them haha but that seems like a fun idea.
#i have a hard time expressing my problems with the movies other than ''i just don't vibe with them'' lmao#maybe it's a pacing issue? you can always vaugely complain about pacing without explaining yourself it always works /hj#okay one big problem i have is with the whole trope of video game adaptations always being like:#''put video game character in real world!'' or ''put real person in video game world!''#like I DONT CARE ABOUT THE REAL WORLD i'm here for the fictional stuff??#why tf do they think they always have to involve irl stuff i don't get it?? 😭#i wanna see sonic's world goddamit#this is why i prefer the comics smh#my enjoyment of the movies are completely in spite of their real world setting#i also don't see the point in a live action sonic movie other than the fact that live action makes more money than animation#sonic is such an extremely cartoony character he belongs in animation it's his natural habitat#oh god this became long af#i didn't wanna complain a bunch in the main post so it all ended up here lmaooo#tizel talk#sonic movie#sonic movie 3#sonic movie 3 spoilers#sonic movie spoilers#sonic the hedgehog
