I was tagged by @justabigoldnerd @yallwildinrn @cha-melodius @nicijones and @pippinoftheshire to do WIP Wednesday and Seven Sentence Sunday, but I hadn't been writing much of anything LOL. I did manage to get something down so here's a snippet! (obviously it's neither Wednesday nor Sunday, I figured that would be the fairest solution loooooool)

In the beginning, after he discovered his predicament, he was relieved. He thought that maybe it was a gift, that maybe he’d better start sending a few prayers up there, because surely someone is looking out for him and trying to make sure that he doesn’t die at the beck and call of the CIA—months later, when he found himself bound and helpless, just a sack of meat to cut through looking for information, he realized that there are fates much worse than death. (He got out with little more than scratches, yet for weeks his nights were plagued by hands holding him down, knives slicing through him, echoes of the human experimentation conducted during the war. The nightmares dissipated in time, but they never disappeared completely.)

It's new fic for the Immortal Napoleon series, it got a little dark and it's still a very first draft, but it's SOMETHING

I think I sent this to twitter and/or KM at some point, but for like three weeks, I had intense thoughts about serial killer Kim, who makes Chay, someone who accidentally downplayed the murders in an offhand comment on social media, his next victim. So :))) Happy halloween!!!

But then he decides not to since Chay is so pretty and looks so innocent. A perfect little plaything for the days Kim can’t murder; because let’s face it. No serial killer murders every day. Just when they have the itch, and while Kim thought Chay would satiate whatever is crawling under his skin, he finds that Chay’s big brown eyes and trembling mouth could be put to better use. To scratch another itch that Kim has not felt in years. Now Chay’s possibilities are endless, he can be more than another name in the newspapers. Someone who will keep screaming and begging, but not for their life. Someone he can twist and manipulate into liking it, liking him, slowly but surely. 

Maybe it starts with Chay waking in a field, eyes bleary. Slowly, the man in front of him comes into focus and Chay’s blood runs cold. 

Chay has heard of him. Not seen, because no one lives long enough to identify him. What’s worse is that there’s no use in running; Chay doesn’t even know where he is, and if the reports are true… then running away means the hunt is on. 

So, sitting in the dirt, surrounded by tall grass that never seems to end, absolutely terrified, Chay can only hope that death is as quick and painless as he read in the newspapers.

“You were going to be victim #23.”

“Were?” Chay asks weakly. 

“Yes. Were.”

“You won’t kill me?”

“Kill you?” the man muses. "Oh, don’t worry. I have other plans for you.”

Of course all of this ends with Chay also joining in on the murders but until then, he’s just serial killer Kim’s chew toy.  :)

I've sort of vaguely mentioned this here and there but this year I'm forcing myself to go on a long hiatus. Its been something in the plans for years now, but I can't put it off any longer because 2024 was the worst wrist pain I've dealt with and I don't want to risk permanently damaging myself if I haven't already.

If you're waiting on a comm, don't worry! My hiatus won't officially start until I've finished them all up (estimating April-May to finish up everything), so just bare with me!

So this has been a long time coming but this year I’ll be taking a long hiatus. This is something I’ve wanted to do for years but I can’t put it off any longer due to how bad my wrist pain was in 2024. I’m feeling incredibly burnt out as well and my turn around times growing longer and longer is a very clear sign of it. It also means I’ve had a growing anxiety that if I continue at this pace I will end up doing permanent damage to my body, if I haven’t already. Creating art is the one thing I know I want to do for the rest of my life, be that drawing for myself or helping other people see their visions come to life, and I don’t want to put that at risk.  

So I can’t put my hiatus off any longer and I’m making this year the start. If you are still waiting on a commission from me, don’t worry! I am going to keep working on them and my official hiatus time won’t start until everything has been finished up. I’m estimating April to May to get everything cleared off the table since I’m going to work at a steady pace. Character sheet commissions are going to remain open, they are not in high demand and I can put them in a queue and so should anyone have interest in one during my hiatus, it could be something I pick up when I need the extra cash. However all other types of commissions are going to be unavailable for the foreseeable future. 

I am aiming for a 6 month long hiatus at the least. If I can go longer I will aim for a full year break. Freelance and commission work has been my main source of income for over 10 years now, so during this time I may also look into getting a part time job so I don't have to rely so heavily on art, which will also affect how much I’ll be able to take on in the future. I’m not quitting art during this hiatus, I do want to keep drawing and creating! But I will be working at a slower pace, creating for myself, experimenting and trying other projects. I also have more merch ideas on the list to work on! I’ve got some plush designs I want to have made,namely a new Zenos plush that will have doll fiber hair that can be brushed and styled.

I will also design more tag style keychains with more XIV characters (like the Scions and other major NPCs), since people have really liked those a lot! I’ll also plan out some other ideas and maybe design some original design plushies or other merch. We’ll see!

[WIP] TS3 UI "Krystal"

I figured it would be cool to finally publicly share what I've been working on behind the scenes, as well as some mockups!

A few of you on Patreon or Discord may have already seen sneak peeks/given feedback. I kept things quiet because I wasn’t sure I’d even do it in the first place as a next modding project, and I didn’t want to let anyone down.

Luckily, @lazyduchess’s Monopatcher made the job ten times easier. The biggest hurdle was that I would've had to make a core mod to override UI code (I’m normally anti–core mod), but the patcher solved that and let me push ahead.

Creating the Mockups

Fun fact: I actually have a degree in UI/UX design! (for websites) While principles like “How wide should this padding be?” or “Which colors send the right signal to the user?”—game UI is a whole different beast.😬

Main Menu

I started with the main menu:

Cut the SimPoints clutter and the “Buy TS4!” banner—after a decade, we get it exists 😉.

Grouped items into clean blocks

Added a text-free “Create New Family” icon

Swapped lot thumbnails for family shots (still baffled by EA’s original choice).

Dropped an options gear in the bottom-left; might label it if it’s too subtle.

Different backgrounds: one solid blue, one closer to the classic gradient.

Not much has changed here! It's just less... busy I suppose, lol!

Moved the Game Tips to the bottom, so the main focus stays on that loading bar 😉

I also have a third option but I'm strongly leaning towards just having the loading bar as it's the most clear!

Live Mode

The hardest of them all lol. Kudos to EA for figuring that one all out! I really struggled with this one in regards to shape and what to even move around/remove!

I figured, it should be nice to pull really into that glassmorphism I've been using over the Mockups! Now I do realise that it can hamper user experience in the sense of not being able to read anything. But these are pictures! So that should be all fine and dandy.

The active item in the queue will now be more "visible". The queued item however, you'll see look a bit more "unactive" compared to what the current version has.

I also completely overhauled the thumbnails for your sims, showing their moods a bit better, and giving the active sim a tiny plumbob! :D

And now the real deal: The control panel! You might notice it's not the whole thing, but I'm still working on that part.

I removed the camera controls from the panel. However, upon feedback, I did hear that it's better to have them as some people are limited in their hand movements on their keyboard and that those controls are really useful. So I will make sure to share 2 versions :)

I also realised I completely forgot the Build/buy mode buttons 😬 So, err, stay tuned for that? lol.

Notifications I really just tidied up :p

I am aware that the space where the text is and the thumbnail is huge, and normally I'd wrap the surrounding text, but apparently in TS3's UI stuff that's practically impossible. Hence that they got this "2 column" effect to them 😉

About releasing the UI:

I'm hoping to release them all in bits and pieces! So first up is the Main Menu (and possibly the Loading screen given it's simplicity).

After that, I hope in my second "update" to release a big portion of Live mode, but that's a bigger task on it's own of course 😉

i do work with a queue system so it is first come first serve, however if you need your commission by a commission by a certain date, just let me know and we'll see if we can work something out. Hiya! I was wondering if you’d been having any luck making the Cats Among Wolves bunnies cooperate lately? If not, that’s cool. Plot bunnies are not the most cooperative creatures, but I figured I’d ask. I was also curious about what the writing process usually looks like for you if you were willing to explain it a bit. Do you tend to jump around between projects just following the inspiration, or do you write out at least a whole scene or chapter before letting yourself move around? How many times do you usually send a fic to Rose for betaing before you feel ready to release it? I always find different people’s processes so interesting.

So Cats Among Wolves is mostly not cooperating at the moment - I am weirdly low on Brain and the bunnies are not doing long-form very well just now. But here's a snippet from the Cedric & Axel fic:

Fuck, this is good, Cedric opines, sipping greedily at the soup Gaetan is holding for him. “The old Wolf knows his way around a kitchen,” Gaetan agrees, nodding. “I think I gained most of a stone the first winter I spent here.” “You needed it,” Eskel puts in. “All you Cats are too damn scrawny.” “Wolves are just absurdly big,” Gaetan sniffs. “And what are Vipers, then?” Eskel - teases. And Gaetan is grinning. Axel has never seen Gaetan so relaxed around an alpha before. Not even Cedric. But there’s not even a hint of tension in his littlest brother. He’s utterly unafraid. “Vipers are mostly perfectly normal sizes, Letho’s just special,” Gaetan says cheerfully. Letho smirks.

As to my writing process - oh gods, it's like a pogo stick. I often have eight or ten docs open, and I create a new WIP at least three times a week. (I am very easy to plotbunny. And I am surrounded by enablers.) I write until I get stuck and then I go to something else. Sometimes, if something really grabs me, I can get a whole longfic out in a week; sometimes I have to come back to it again and again until it clicks. My personal feeling is that as long as words are ending up in a row, it's all good.

I don't outline. Outlines kill fic for me. Once I've written down what's going to happen, why bother writing it again? Even for something like MBtT, I had the very loosest possible sketch of the plot and the desired relationships. I also can't estimate how long a fic is going to be to save my life. I thought MBtT was going to be 50K. I have to very deliberately keep from putting plot into things like prompt fills and flash fics, because once I've added plot, that fic isn't getting done in less than 10K.

I usually send the fic to Rose when it's completely done, and then do a pass through it once she's left comments, fixing all the plot holes she finds. Then she checks my work and I put it in the posting queue.

One thing I have found that helps me is that I color-code my docs. Blue is in progress, purple is ready for beta, and green is ready to be posted. It makes it easier for me to track things visually.

The other thing that really helps is cheer-readers. Because I try to only post finished fics, sometimes I'll start wondering if what I'm writing is really any good. Rose and Twist and Ray have all been wonderful at Encouraging me enthusiastically to keep going, and suggesting directions when I get stuck. Cheer-readers are great and I encourage writers to find them if they can.

Because anyway. Anyway. I had a dream last night about BEARDED EZRA (sorry to the shaved!Ezra enjoyers but this is my personal biblical event. Like the second I saw the concept art where he was shaved at the Ahsoka panel recently, I CRUMBLED like a dying star. Like. Bring back the scruff 2025 I am NOT WELL).

LOOK AT HIM- ANYWAY.

And. Listen. BESTIE LISTEN TO ME. He was a guitarist. A guitarist. Do you understand- Do you COMPREHEND what it DOES to a person to see a man with mid-length messy hair, ocean-in-a-storm blue eyes, a beard sent directly by the Maker, strumming a black electric guitar like he’s personally exorcising demons??????? I was like a medieval peasant seeing a comet????????

And it was a Band AU. A BAND AU.!!!!!! In my dream. Like what am I??? Some kind of Mortis-visioned DELPHI ORACLE?? Receiving divine transmissions from the Force itself????

Sabine was obviously there because if you think I’m dreaming about Ezra without Sabine that’s actually a CRIME punishable by law. She was the bassist, looking like she could and WOULD crash a hoverbike through your living room just for fun. Colorful undercut, ripped jeans, eyeliner so sharp it could cut kyber.

And THEN. THEN- They had that spicy little backstage argument energy, the kind where you KNOW it's about to turn into something else. Probably about something stupid like Ezra refusing to follow the setlist and Sabine calling him "tough guy" in a tone that made him lose all higher brain function.

Ezra, tuning his guitar backstage: "You gonna glare at me all night Sab, or are you saving it for when I forget the bridge again?" Sabine, not even looking up from restringing her bass: "Depends. You gonna actually play it this time or just fake it and pray your 'charm' saves you?" Ezra, smirking: "You admit it. You think I’m charming." Sabine, deadly calm: "I think you’re an idiot with nice hands. Don’t make it weird." Ezra, grinning like he absolutely plans to make it weird: "You watching my hands, Mandalorian?" Sabine, snapping a string with unnecessary violence: "Only so I know where to stab first if you screw up the encore." Ezra, cocky: "Knew you were thinking about my hands."

And mid-argument??? He just SNAPPED. Like grabbed her face snapped. Like he kissed her so hard I almost woke up from the psychic whiplash alone.

It got HEATED IMMEDIATELY. Like they were about to start a whole separate concert backstage but FOR ADULTS.

And THEN I WOKE UP.

No plot. No backstory. No "this is why the band formed" lore. Just chaos, static, and vibes. Just a force vision beamed directly into my brain like I’m some kind of tragic little mortal at the mercy of the galaxy’s whims.

What am I supposed to DO with that??? I already have 300 WIPs standing by like Red Squadron but apparently we’re adding band!Ezrabine backstage kiss tension slowburn rivals-to-lovers-to-bandmates-to-lovers-again fic to the queue now?????

God. GOD.

Not that I'm complaining, OF COURSE, because spiritually I am a Victorian child getting handed an iPad full of ezrabine content. But my sister in Mandalore, I ALREADY have like six main fics running weekly like some kind of deranged hollow tree filled with plot squirrels, and now THIS?? I am CRUMBLING. I am disintegrating. I am holding it together worse than my weird little tomato/red onion-carrot breakfast cakes which, by the way, are collapsing under their own weight on the counter like tragic, savory soufflés of shame.
