After a bit of a hiatus, I have finished Cadro!
He spends pretty much all his time hanging out with a pair of twins named Sparrow and Chickadee, and the three are widely considered to be inseparable (if not a bit annoying). Cadro gives the queer vibes of a typical teenage boy and never takes anything seriously. Everything is a joke to him and many others around him find it very annoying. But he’s not mean, he just wants to have a little fun~
#I will be doing sparrow and chickadee as well#dee has to wait a bit bc I need to access purple dye before making a proper design for her#anyways. by queer vibes I mean cadro and sparrow flirt with each other without ever doing anything#sky cotl#sky cotl oc#oc: cadro#not as much about him as some other characters bc he’s not quite as relevant#but he still does stuff in the end#adding to the already infinite list of ocs

Everything’s a Negotiation (7/?)
Pairing: Modern!Tommy Shelby x OC, Modern!Alfie Solomons x OC
Warnings: series typical violence, language, sexual situations, possessive behavior, consensual public sexual situations
Summary: Mac and Sydney meet for drinks, but their evening is interrupted by an uninvited guest.
Word Count: 2604
A/N: I have no idea where I’m going with this, but I’m writing while I still have the inspiration gods on my side. I hope you enjoy. Let me know if you want added to the tag list.
“How many have you had?” Sydney asked as she slid into the high-top chair across from Mac.
Mac rolled her eyes and looked down at the remnants of her pint glass. “I didn’t get ahead of you. It’s just my face.”
Sydney squinted her eyes, leaned in close to Mac’s face. “Just your face? The hell happened today?”
“I might need a new career. Or identity. Or maybe I just need to find a random guy and have sex to get it out of my system.”
“Is that why we’re meeting in SoHo? So you can find a bloke for the night?”
Mac cradled her face in her hands. “I don’t know.”
“Alright, love, how ‘bout you start from the beginning. Tell me about your day.”
“Tommy slept against the door to my bedroom last night. He was gone before I got up, but he left me some lovely flowers, the bastard. I was late to the office, only to have a meeting with a man who works with Tommy, sometimes. Other times, they try to kill each other as a normal course of conducting business. So this man comes into my office after I’d already told him his company was too large for my firm, and he tries to convince me to work for him. Flirts a lot. Offers me diamonds, fucking Febregè Eggs, like who does that? Then, and this really is the best bit, says we can just have a fling, just a friends-with-benefits thing because I’m not Jewish, and somehow that’s meant to make me feel better about it?”
“Do you have any clients who come into your office without a criminal background?”
Mac laughed. “I used to. Now, apparently, I’m a gangster magnet.”
Sydney snorted into her drink. “Maybe you should find a less appealing line of work.”
“Not sure that would work either. Tommy seems determined. Alfie thinks Tommy’s determined, too. It’s been, what, a week, maybe two weeks? The fuck do either of them know about me?”
Mac took a deep breath. “Right. I’m going over to that bar and I’m ordering myself another drink.”
Sydney nodded. “When you come back, you’re going to explain all of that to me again because I think I’m too sober to keep up with you tonight.”
She doubted it would make any sense no matter how she explained it. Her life had become infinitely more complicated, and that was without thinking about what nefarious plots Hank devised for her. It was best she didn’t know anything about Rodney, but the not knowing was a low-grade annoyance, like a fly in the room that was just always out of reach. Bracing her elbows against the bar, she allowed her head to roll forward, feeling the slight stretch in her neck that felt nice, but did nothing to ease the tension in her body.
The lips pressed against the back of her neck caused a whole sort of new tension to flare through her body, even as she leaned back against the warm body trapping her against the bar.
“I don’t know that I’ve forgiven you yet,” Mac whispered as she tilted her neck to the side. “And, if you send any more of your associates into my office, I might never forgive you.”
She felt Tommy smile against the skin of her neck as he pressed another kiss just below her ear. He didn’t say anything. Mac smiled at the bartender who slid another pint of cider to her. Ignoring the slight tremble of her hand, she brought the cold beverage to her lips, enjoying the tart bite of it as the liquid slid down her throat. Against her back, Tommy let out a pained groan as he pushed his hips more firmly against her ass. He was hard, and the knowledge sent a powerful wave of desire through her. Tommy leaned forward a bit more, moving his hand around her hip towards her thighs. Feather-light, he teased his fingers along the material of her skirt, subtly bunching it up higher, exposing more of her thighs to his fingers.
Gulping around a dry throat, Mac brought the cider back to her lips as a distraction. She didn't know what to say. As she’d told Alfie earlier, this wasn’t a romance novel, and yet here she was getting felt up in a pub in SoHo like some undergrad out for fresher’s week. Still, she didn’t push him away, didn’t tell him to stop. As his fingers moved closer to her pussy she fought back a moan.
“This is insane,” she whispered.
“Tell me to stop, love, if that’s what you want.”
As he spoke, his fingers brushed against her panty-covered clit.
“Fuck.”
Tommy’s dark chuckle had goosebumps erupting on her skin. He repeated the motion. Mac squirmed in his arms, working hard to be subtle, to avoid drawing attention to their activities because if he stopped, she might have to hit him over the head with the pint glass clenched between her fingers. As though he could read her mind, his fingers pushed aside her panties, and delved between her folds. He groaned against her ear as his fingers pushed her wetness around her clit.
“Fuckin’ soaked for me.”
So slowly she knew he was doing it just to drive her mad, he slid a finger into her. God his fingers felt so large, so warm and perfect inside her. She bit down on her lip, eyes squeezed shut as he began to move, to thrust his finger in and out of her soaking hole.
“Barely touched you, and you’re this wet for me. Desperate for my touch, eh, love? Want to come? Want me to make you fucking come on my fingers?”
He breathed the words into her ear. To the world around them, it would appear as though they were having an intimate conversation. No one the wiser. No one to suspect that he’d added a second finger. That his thumb constantly teased against her clit as he lazily thrust his fingers in and out, in and out. She needed him to increase the pace. Harder. Faster. More. His teeth bit her earlobe before soothing it with a flick of his tongue.
“Know I’m the only one who can make you feel this good, yeah? The only one who gets to touch you like this, feel you fall apart in their arms?”
A shudder from the top of her head to the tips of her toes raced down her spine at his words. How long had they been at the bar? He pinched her clit, effectively chasing the thoughts from her head as she bit down hard on her lip to muffle the sound of her cry. Damn he was fucking amazing at this. She wanted to turn around, to see his blue eyes stare into hers while he fucked her with his fingers, with his tongue, with his cock. Wanted to see him lose control as he thrust into her body.
“Tommy.”
“Say you’re mine,” he growled.
“Tommy - ”
“Be a good girl, fuckin’ say you’re mine.”
She opened her mouth to answer him, to tell him what he wanted to hear, if only to push her over the edge because she knew the orgasm would be mind blowing. Just as she knew sex with this man would destroy her.
Anything you want, pet.
It was like being doused with cold water. She could still feel the scrape of his cropped beard against her skin. The same skin Tommy’s lips caressed now.
Sensing the change in her, Tommy stopped his movements, slowly removed his fingers from her body, and placed a hand on her back.
“Mackenzie?”
She hated the concern in his voice. Like he was afraid he’d done something, crossed some line she’d established.
“It’s fine, Tommy.”
Gently, he turned her to face him. Tilted her face up so that he could look into her eyes. She tried to turn away, but he held firm.
“Doesn’t look like nothing, love.”
Feeling a bit frantic, her eyes darted around the bar. Of all the times for Sydney to leave her to her own devices, now was hardly the time. Honestly, how long did the girl think it took to get a drink from a not-terribly-busy bar? Why hadn’t Sydney come looking for her yet?
His fingers brushed some hair behind her ear, fingers lingering on her neck.
“What is it you want Tommy?” Mac asked, the conversation with Alfie forefront in her mind now.
It hadn’t been the question she’d intended to ask. In fact, Mac hadn’t meant to open her mouth at all. They barely knew each other. She hardly knew what she wanted from him, so asking him the same question was unfair. But, it was there now, in the space between them.
“You burst into my office demanding I work for you because of my idiot cousin and his fucking poor life choices, then when that doesn’t work, you have your cousin show up to ask me the same thing, but with better words, only to take me out on probably the most spectacular date in the history of dates - then you send one of your associates, who at least for the moment you’re working with instead of against to my office. He works his charms, and seriously? Is it just a thing for you London gangster types? Hm? Do they train you for it somehow? Between learning how to beat a man and shoot a 9mm, do they pause and go, oh by the way this is how you woo a woman?”
Based on the way Tommy looked at her, she probably sounded completely mad. She felt it, so that tracked. Nothing from the last couple of weeks felt normal. Everything had just been moment after moment of crazy without any time to process it all. Why didn’t they allow dogs in pubs? Zeus would go a long way towards calming her, and anytime she was around Thomas Shelby, Mac needed all the calm she could get.
“I didn’t send anyone to your office today.”
Her eyes snapped up to his. His gaze was dark, as though he were concerned about someone showing up unannounced at her place of work.
“Alfie seemed to know you fairly well.”
His jaw tightened. “Alfie came to see you today, eh?”
Mac nodded.
“He work his charms on you? Hm?”
She narrowed her eyes at his tone. “He wanted to buy me a drink, run to be specific. He also spouted nonsense about Febregè Eggs and diamonds, but Alfie seems to be someone with a flair for dramatics, so I mostly figured he meant the drink.” She paused, shook her head. “Still not sure what I’d do with a fucking Febregè Egg.”
Tommy nodded his head, eyes dark. “Gonna buy you a fuckin’ drink is he?”
“Tommy - ”
“And you’re just going to let him, eh? One gangster not enough for you?”
“Fuck you,” Mac spat. “I didn’t ask for any of this. And now you know why I don’t want to get into business with you or Alfie. I can fucking see it in your eyes already. You’re pissed as hell at him, and maybe you have a right to be, but what would this do for business? If I had info on him and info on you and you two go back to being angry at each other? I’m fucking caught in the middle because you two can’t control your dicks.”
“He shouldn’t have fucking touched you.”
“I’m not yours. We’ve been on one, maybe two if you count that first night, dates. It’s been a couple of weeks max since you barreled into my life. I don’t owe you anything.”
“I’ll kill ‘im for this. He crossed the line.”
Mac shook her head. “Do you hear yourself? Fucking hell, Tommy.”
She looked down at the pint glass. Half of it was gone. She didn’t remember drinking that much of it, but she’d been more than a little distracted. Pulling cash from her pocket, she set five quid down on the bar before pushing away from it.
“Where the hell are you going, Mac?”
She glared at Tommy, glared down at the hand he had wrapped around her arm. “I’m going back to my table. Sydney has been waiting for a long time. You’re not going to follow me.”
He released her arm and pulled a cigarette from his pocket. Just as he lit it, Mac snatched it from his hand. She tossed it on the ground and snubbed it out with her shoe, making sure to tear it apart completely.
“There’s no smoking in here.”
Tommy’s lips twitched as she spun on her heel and stomped back over to the table. She noticed the wide-eyed look on Sydney’s face and once again wondered how much her friend had seen.
“I went to the loo,” Sydney said before Mac had a chance to sit down. “By the time I got back, you looked quite involved in a conversation with Mister Shelby over at the bar, so I stayed my ass right here.”
Mac nodded absently. She brought the pint to her lips and gulped down the last half of her cider.
“Is there a rule somewhere? Like, is it just something people know and because I don’t know anything apparently, I totally missed it? I mean, it’s been less than two weeks, right, and we went on one official date. The first night at the bar doesn’t really count. He was so sweet that night, too.”
“Hon,” Sydney placed her hand on Mac’s, drawing her attention. “What’s going on?”
“Tommy seems to think that one date makes me his, like I’m property, or like this is some old-time movie. Then Alfie in my office today said he just wanted a fling. Couldn’t commit. As though I’d asked. So, I need to know. Is there a rule? One date and you fucking belong to the man? Because if that’s the case, I’m totally going to change my identity and move to a secluded island somewhere.”
“Don’t hate me, but I think it might just be a Tommy thing,” Sydney began. “Hear me out, okay? I saw the way he looked at you when he was leaving the bar. A man that looks at a woman like that…he’s got it in his head that it’s something. Might not be what you signed up for, but maybe one date is all it took for him. Now, I also think he’s a man accustomed to getting what he wants because he’s a fucking gangster, isn’t he? Then he meets you, and you don’t go easy. You aren’t impressed or intimidated - ”
“I am intimidated. Tommy’s fucking overwhelming when he’s on his best behavior.”
“Not intimidated enough to just give in.”
“That’s because I’m an idiot, clearly.”
Sydney laughed. “Look, this has all been…a lot.”
“Queen of the understatement you are.”
“Fuck off. My point is…take a few days. Go up north and clear your head. Get out of the city for a bit.
“I have a business to run.”
Sydney raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed with Mac’s excuse.
Mac threw her hands up in surrender. “Fine, I can run the business from anywhere, but do you really think I’ll be able to get out of the city without one or both of those idiots knowing?”
“Probably not, but you’re resourceful. I mean, you do own a security firm, right? Surely you have assets at your disposal. Might not keep them from knowing, but it would make them at least have to put in some fucking effort.”

Set It Up: Chapter 14 (SP x OC)
Summary: Isabelle has gone out of her way to be obstinate when it comes to high school culture, making sure everyone knows she could care less about what they think about her. All Cora wants is a night out, but she’s going to have to find someone brave enough to tango with her hostile older sibling to get it. This was just supposed to be a business deal for Sweet Pea, he never thought it could turn into something more.
Word Count: 4k+
Warning: Language
AN: This fic was loosely inspired by “10 Things I Hate About You”. Chapter updates are on Fridays. I truly appreciate all you guys reading this and an extra shout out to the folks that reblog and recommend.
Canon is totally ignored… don’t even try to find it. Sweet Pea, Fangs, Chuck and Reggie are Seniors. All the others are juniors. This site hate links, so I am creating fresh tag list and a masterlist that will be posted separately from the fic. Request to be added to the tag list!
____________________________________________
Bodies crowded the hall as the lunch bell echoed through the building, students hurrying to dump their books pushed and shoved to make it to the cafeteria for a much needed break. Tossing the last of her morning course work into her locker, Izzy eyed her English book before reluctantly shoving it into her bag along with her Economics binder; much to her relief, Izzy had managed to avoid Sweet Pea all morning, but it was going to be quite hard to avoid the brooding Serpent come English since he resided in the seat right behind her. The thought of having to face him left an uneasy feeling in her stomach, but she figured she was lucky enough to get this far in the day without a run in.
She had managed to shove Friday’s events to the back of mind, too busy with stuff at the rink and making amends with her dad to be bothered by it, but it all had come rushing back first thing this morning as she got ready for school. Would he corner her to talk about it or act like it never happened? He’d done neither it seemed, preferring to completely ice her out instead, and she’d been relieved by that. Everything had been moving so fast, first the party, then pops and then the Wyrm, by the time he brought up the dance she’d just snapped.
The flood had eased to a steady, but far more manageable, flow of bodies as Izzy cramed the last of her things into her bag and merged towards the cafeteria, fingers moving rapidly across her screen to see if Tara was already at the table. Izzy had avoided her blonde partner in crime all weekend, not wanting to talk about her disastrous ending, but there was no getting out of lunch with the team and it was inevitable that she’d be the topic of conversation.
Steps faltering, Izzy’s phone tumbled from her grasp as she collided with a fellow student, a grunt escaping from the other as Izzy searched the ground for her lost device. “Dammit.”
“Watch it!”
Slipping her phone into her back pocket, Izzy sneered as she came to her full height, green eyes locking with a perturbed Chuck Clayton. “Don’t stand in the middle of the hallway, Chuck.”
“Do you have to work at being a bitch or is that something that just comes naturally to you?”
A deep chuckle came from the boys hanging around behind the football star, Izzy’s jaw clenching in annoyance at the smug look that spread across his features. Leave it to Chuck to poke an already pissed off bear. “Everyone is entitled to act stupid once and awhile, but you really abuse the privilege.”
“Fuck you.”
The dark look that spread across his features sent a thrill of enjoyment through Izzy’s system, being able to piss Chuck off making the end of her morning infinitely better. Skirting around the group of boys, Izzy tossed her long locks over her shoulder as she smirked back at them, feet carrying her towards the cafeteria doors and a waiting Tara. “Fuck yourself- lord knows no one else will.”
“No one but your sister!”
Izzy halted dead in her tracts as Chuck’s words echoed through the hallway, the boys snickering and making lude gestures in support of their friend’s words. Izzy prescribed to very few sisterly rules when it came to Cora, but the only one allowed to drag the perky blonde’s name through the mud was her.
“Come on…”
Before Izzy could turn back on the group of guys, Tara tugged her through the cafeteria doors, their snickering in the hall easily drowned out by the hum of a hundred different conversations going at once. Out of habit Izzy scanned the large room, her green eyes locking onto Sweet Pea for a beat before she quickly turned her gaze to the ground. His face had been unreadable, the schooled stoic look he’d met her with telling her nothing of what he was really feeling.
Spotting the rest of the team at their normal table, Tara refused to release Izzy until they were safely seated, a round of greetings coming from the group before they turned back to the conversation at hand. “I didn’t hear squat from you all weekend.”
Ducking into her bag for a protein bar she’d shoved in there this morning, Izzy did her best to avoid the probing look coming from her best friend. “Sorry. I was busy at the rink.”
“So… what happened?”
“Uh, we had to birthday parties, free skate and pee wees won their game.”
“Not at the rink.” Rolling her eyes at Izzy’s obvious avoidance, Tara snatched the protein bar from her friend’s hand in attempt to grab the girl’s attention, the angry look Izzy shot across the table at her meaning she’d succeeded. “What happened on Friday… with Sweet Pea. I’m dying here.”
Taking back her lunch, Izzy toyed with the wrapper for a moment before taking a bite, the bland flavor of laboratory chocolate reminding her why she hated the stupid things. “Nothing. We drank, played pool and I went home.”
At some point the term friend becomes interchangeable with sister, the years the two girls spent together making it increasingly easy to know the temperature of a situation without a word having to be said. “How long have we been friends?”
“I don’t know.” Meeting her friend’s hazel look for the first time, Izzy shrugged her shoulders as her friend continued to study her, the look on Tara’s face telling her that she was not going to escape. “Since the first grade or something.”
“After twelve years don’t you think I’d know when something was up?” Reaching again for the protein bar to take away the one distraction Izzy had, Tara chuckled as the brunette shifted away from her grasp, a tight smile spreading across her features. “What happened?”
“I had a great time- had a few beers, played some pool, hung out with some of the other Serpents.”
“And?”
“And then he drove me home.”
“And?”
Still frustrated with the entire situation, Izzy tossed her protein bar on the table, a couple of her team mates glancing quickly at the pair before turning back to their lunches with an ear turned to the conversation; a Decker outburst wasn’t an uncommon lunchtime occurrence but it usually proved to be entertaining and they’d hate to miss the gossip. “And then he went and ruined a perfectly good evening by asking me to the stupid alumni dance thing.”
“Wait… what?” Tara had worked up a hundred different scenarios that had resulted in another tiff between the two of them, but Izzy being pissed that Sweet Pea asked her to the dance came so far out of left field that all Tara could do was stare dumbly across the table.
“He asked me to that stupid dance.”
“And this is a problem?” Tara could think of at least a dozen girls in this school that would throw themselves at the tall Serpents feet if he had asked them to the Alumni Formal and here Izzy was pissed off about it.
“No… yes.” Frustrated with her own conflicted feelings, Izzy ran a hand through her long locks in agitation, protein bar forgotten beside her. “I don’t know.”
Finally feeling like she was getting somewhere, Tara pulled out the bag of trail mix she carried around and spread it out on the table in front of them, popping a handful into her mouth as she tried to work her way around the information. “Ok. Backtrack for a second. Left the bar, he drove you home and then he asked you to the dance.”
Pushing a few raisins to the side, Izzy picked at the small pile of peanuts and chocolate in front of her as she did her best to replay the events of Friday. “We were…saying goodnight and…”
“Oh, I just bet you were saying goodnight.”
Izzy tossed a raisin in Tara’s direction in respose, if there was one thing her friend couldn’t do it was just listen; there always had to be added side commentary for any story to be complete. “We were saying goodnight and out of the blue he asks me to go with him. Just out of the blue. For no reason.”
“Uh, I feel like he has a really good reason?”
“And that is?”
“Going to a school dance would be the next logical step for a couple?”
“We aren’t a couple.” Brows furrowing at the insinuation, Izzy glared across the table at Tara. Hanging out a couple times does not make people a couple.
One of the few people in this school unable to be intimidated by the prickly girl, Tara mirrored Izzy’s infamous over exaggerated eye roll. “Going to a school dance would be the next logical step for two people who have gone out twice and have admitted to exchanging saliva on more than one occasion.”
“Who’s side are you on?” Izzy couldn’t believe was coming out of her best friend, Tara was supposed to be in her corner, agreeing with everything that she said, not supporting this bullshit idea about going to a dance.
Tara could tell Izzy was not appreciating where she was coming from, her friend’s emotions displayed across her face like paint on a canvas. That was the thing about friendships as close as theirs, they passed the ‘just agreeing with each other’ years ago and have been comfortably sitting on the ‘call you out on your shit when you’re being stupid’ bench for a long time. “Would going to the dance really be that bad?”
“Yes.”
Ever patient, Tara waited a beat for Izzy to go one but the brunette never did, her attention extremely focused on color sorting the M&Ms in the trail mix. “Explain.”
“It just… I won’t…” Pulling her eyes from the table, Izzy met understanding hazel ones across from her; leave it to Tara to look past the crazy and poke at what the root of Izzy’s issues were. “I don’t do dances.”
“Why?”
“Because everyone else does them, Cora does them. I don’t do what everyone else does.”
Bingo. There is was. Izzy had put so much time and energy into her anti-institution persona that she wasn’t willing to break from if, even if it meant participating in something she really wanted to do. “You don’t always have to go against everything, Izzy.”
A cold chuckle passed the brunette’s lips at the thought, expecting anything else from her would be so out of character she’d be lost. “I’ve been against everything so long I don’t know how to be for anything.”
“Do you want to go?”
“Do you?” Refusing to confirm Tara’s assumptions, Izzy did was she did best and deflected it back on her friend, there was no way her partner in crime for everything anti-establishment would own up to wanting to go to this stupid thing.
“If I had a date? Hell yeah I’d go.”
Eyes wide in surprise, Izzy just stared at her friend. Tara had never gone to a school dance and had never hinted at ever wanting to attend one, her usual choice of social entertainment being house parties and college campuses. “Seriously?”
Shrugging her shoulders, Tara scanned the cafeteria, hazel eyes taking in a scene that wasn’t far from being over for them. Unlike Izzy, Tara didn’t know where she was going after they walked across the stage in the spring and leaving Riverdale High for the last time would be a bittersweet parting for her. “High School only happens once. We’ve only got this chance to attend stupid dances and listen to crummy music we’ll complain about for years to come. So, if a guy I want to be around offers to take me, I’d be stupid to not go.”
Tara’s insight sent Izzy’s thoughts reeling, the fact that her nearest and dearest friend was offering a different side of the coin made Izzy reconsider Sweet Pea’s offer. She was far from being able to commit to going, but she was willing to reconsider her original stance and maybe, just maybe, talk to Sweet Pea about it. It also wasn’t lost on Izzy that Tara was more than willing to go, the fact she was dateless being the only hang up, because it just so happened Izzy remembered a friendly conversation she’d had on Friday with a light-hearted Serpent. “So…funny story.”
“Izzy!”
Tossing a chunk of chicken to a patiently waiting, but drooling Bob, Izzy added an assortment of veggies to the pan of sizzling meat, the smell of stir fry wafting through the house. “In the kitchen.”
Heavy footfalls echoed through the living room, her father placing a chaste kiss on her head as he helped himself to a beer and took a seat at the kitchen table, the day’s mail down tossed down in front of him. “When did you get home?”
“Like an hour ago.” Giving the pan a hearty shake, Izzy set the burner to medium to let dinner simmer, attention turning to rice she’d been steaming.
“How was…what is this? Suffolk University?”
Jumping from the stove, Izzy rushed to the large envelope her father was holding, fingers franticly snatching it from his grasp and ripping at the seal for the documents inside. Her hands shook as she held the paper in her hands, green eyes hurriedly scanning the words on the paper. “Holy crap! I’m in… I got in!” Dumping out the contents of the envelope, Izzy spread the shiny booklets and letters around the table, body almost vibrating with excitement at receiving her first acceptance letter.
Trying to wrap his brain around what just unfolded, Will stared blankly at his oldest for a moment before focusing on the booklets in front of her, his blue gaze taking in the glossy images of a college campus and picturesque city scene. “Isn’t that in Boston?”
“Yeah… right in the downtown. And they’re D3 so I have a chance at making the hockey team!” Izzy knew from the get go that she’d never make a D1 hockey roster, though her skills were good there was no way she could compete with club players, but a D3 school that didn’t recruit with athletic scholarships was a serious possibility for her.
“I thought you had planned on staying close, go to SUNY.” Will had never really considered the girls leaving New York, the state offering a more than adequate state college system and even a few top tier privates to boot. He’d been mentally preparing for college acceptance letters, but this…this was not what he had steeled himself for and didn’t know how to navigate.
Glancing over at her father, Izzy fiddled with the acceptance letter as she watched the confusion on her father’s face melt away and be replaced with frustration. “I know we had talked about it, but I had just planned on using it as my safety school.”
“When were you planning on talking to me about this?”
“When I was sure I could get into other schools?”
The muscles in Will’s jaw jumped as he clenched his teeth, not sure if he really wanted to know the answer to his question. “How many more did you apply to not in New York?”
“Four…”
The chair teetered on two legs for a moment before righting itself when the retired Major jumped to his feet, his abrupt movement sending the shaggy mutt who had settled under the table scurrying from the kitchen to the safety of the living room couch. “Four colleges? Christ Izzy! You didn’t think that we needed to discuss this?”
Izzy flinched at her father’s outburst, guilt settling into the pit of her stomach as her excitement about the acceptance began to diminish. “I didn’t want to stir the pot.”
“Well it’s sure as hell stirred now. What? You just planning on packing up and moving to Boston?”
“Kind of.”
“Then what?”
Doing her best to keep control on her emotions, knowing anger would only make the situation worse and break the fragile repair job they’d used on their relationship after the last fight, Izzy white knuckled the back of the chair in front of her, green eyes matching her father’s heated look. “Go to college, maybe play hockey, experience a big city. Get the fu… hell away from this trainwreck of a town?”
“Albany is away from this town, but still in the state. Isn’t that far enough?”
All Izzy wanted was for her dad to be happy for her, to embrace the fact that she was brave enough to possibly venture out of her comfort zone alone and take on the next stage of her life despite the fear and unease that comes with starting a clean slate. “Why don’t you want me to go? Is it because of Mom? Because she left and never came back you think I’ll do the same?”
Will tensed at the mention of his ex, Cora was the daughter who usually played the mom card, to the point where it held no water anymore, but it had never been in Izzy’s arsenal. His oldest was a lot like him, loud words and the occasional thrown object, so the face she had brought up the missing parent had cut him deeper than he’d want to admit. “That’s not fair, Izzy.”
“It’s not fair to make me stay close when I have options to go!”
Izzy’s voice was steadily rising as the conversation went on and Will knew it was only a matter of time before both of them blew their tops. Picking up his beer, Will stepped around his oldest and made his way towards the living room, movement halting at the threshold. “I’ll think about it, alright?”
There wasn’t much more Izzy could say once her father put a stop to the discussion, her stomach settling with a sinking feeling when his only response was ‘I’ll think about it.’ “Ok.”
Offering her a curt nod, Will slipped into the living room and the sound of Sports Center filled the house as Izzy returned her attention to the dinner that had been simmering on the stove. Though her hands deftly stirred the pan, her thoughts raced with the possibilities of the future.
A ear piercing squeal rang through the second floor as Izzy did her best to focus on the economics book in front of her, Bob l just groaning from his spot on her bed as a door slammed and heavy footfalls vibrated the hall. “I feel ya, Bob.”
Since the moment she’d opened the acceptance packet Izzy had been struggling to focus on the homework she still had to get done, the economic impact of World War II on America not as thrilling as the idea she could be living in Boston this time next year. If this was her father’s reaction to the first out of state acceptance, she could only imagine what he’ll be like if any of the other schools green light her. A light rap on the door drew her attention from her notes, Bob’s prone frame perking up on the bed. “Come in.”
“You got a minute?”
“Yeah.” Tossing her pen to the side, Izzy swiveled in her desk chair as Cora let herself into the bedroom, the blonde making herself comfortable with Bob on the bed. “What’s up.”
Earning a contented groan from the dog as she scratched behind his ear, Cora glanced over at her sister, the tension that had coiled in her stomach dissipating a little at Izzy’s relaxed demeanor. “That formal hosted by the Alumni is coming up.”
“Uh huh.”
“And I’d really appreciate it if you’d go.”
Izzy was starting to think the universe was plotting against her; she should have known there was no escaping this damn dance, first Sweet Pea, then Tara and now Cora. “So you can go.”
“Yeah.” The matter of fact way Izzy had spoken sent Cora’s system on alert, already knowing there was a no lurking right around the corner. “Look, I know dances aren’t your thing, too mainstream for you, but I got asked. I have a great dress and all my friends are going and I just really really want to go to one dance before I graduate. When you leave next year my chances will be zilch so this is it.”
Reclining back in her chair, Izzy stared up at the ceiling as words gross commentary from earlier replayed in the back of her mind. Cora needed to know what kind of guy she was dealing with, but how to break it to her was proving difficult, her penchant for dramatics the biggest worry. “You shouldn’t trust Chuck.”
Straightening at the accusation, Cora gave her sister a confused look. “Who said I was going with Chuck?”
Twirling in her chair, Izzy brought it to a stop to face her sister square on, a bored look clear on her face as she did her best not to roll her eyes at Cora’s denial. “I’m not blind, Cora. I’ve seen the two of you together.”
“Ok, so what if it is Chuck? Why can’t I trust him?” True or not, Cora figured it was best to play along with her sister’s assumptions, especially since she wanted to know where Izzy was going with this.
“Because he’s a misogynistic asshat only interested in one thing.”
“And how do you know this?” While Cora wasn’t doubting her sister, most of the students at Riverdale high were all after the same thing, the way Izzy had said it made it seem like she knew more than the regular gossip circle.
“A leopard doesn’t change his spots.”
“Yeah? And how would you know what his spots look like?” The flush that worked its way up Izzy’s neck sent Cora’s eyes wide in surprise, unbelieving of what she was seeing and thinking. Izzy and Chuck were enemies to the core, the whole school knowing not to stand too close when they were bickering out of fear of becoming collateral damage. “No. You didn’t. When?”
Not willing to meet Cora’s questioning stare, Izzy looked just over her shoulder to the collage of pictures her and Tara had created, the two of them with bright smiles in the middle of a greenhouse, taken the summer in question, front and center. “One really bad house party the summer going into our Sophomore year.”
“Why are you telling me this.” The two of them may be sisters, but their relationship had never been the sharing type, more apt to chase each other with kitchen knives when their parents weren’t looking rather than sit together and talk about their feelings.
Finally working up the nerve to look at her sister, Izzy just shrugged her shoulders, not really sure why she had shared that nugget of information. “I guess so you know who you’re dealing with. So you don’t make the same mistakes as me.”
“Despite what you think, I’m not stupid Izzy.”
The bitterness in Cora’s words sent the brunette’s stomach churning as the discussion took a turn, her hopes they could have a good sisterly conversation imploding. “I didn’t say you were.”
“Then why not let me figure out Chuck’s game on my own? Why step in and try to stop me from going to the dance?”
“I’m trying to keep you from getting hurt, Cora. Protect you.” Why was she getting in trouble for trying to do the right thing? For the first time in forever Izzy was trying to help her sister and all she was getting was flack for her effort.
Irritated with the entire conversation Cora moved towards the bedroom door, her upper lip curled up as she reached for the handle. “Concerned big sister never looked good on you, Izzy.”
“Cora…” Izzy was cut off at her bedroom door slammed against the frame, the sounds of Bruno Mars soon filled the eerie silence that seemed to settle upstairs. In less than three hours Izzy had managed to piss off the only other two people that lived in the house, it had to be a new record.
Giving her homework one more passing glance, knowing she wasn’t getting shit done now, Izzy dragged herself to her bed, in search of comfort from the last living thing in the house. Waiting till his girl was comfortable, the hairy blob crawled his way up from his normal spot at the foot of the bed and rested his head on Izzy’s outstretched arm, “Bob, I think you’re the only one in this family not made at me.”
As if knowing what she needed, Bob offered a sloppy kiss, a soft smile gracing Izzy’s lips as the dog got comfortable again. Everything else might be going to hell in a hand basket, but at least she had Bob.

Liking something can be such a huge motivation. And such a big motivating factor to just learn and do things. Like -
Because I like dolls, I:
Figured out, at the age of 15, how to buy things online without a bank account or credit or debit card. (The answer is, buy through group orders, or someone else doing the order, and request to pay in cash.) But also, when I did get a bank account (and still no card), I figured out how to get paypal (properly, not the fake your age method), and how to buy things and get them shipped to me without my parents knowing (send it to a friend)
Figured out how to do faceups with online forum tutorials. Back then, photo and text explanations were the norm, video tutorials weren’t really a thing. But anyway, a totally new skill picked up. It’s helpful to have drawn alot before this, but still, pastel and painting were new grounds for me.
Figured out what a respirator is, why it matters, and how to use it properly
Figured out a way to manage my expenses (done on excel) even though back then it was just doll related
Figured out how to sew because I didn’t have the money to buy them clothes. Figured out how to make patterns even though I’m still not really sure how to do it. Also learnt how to use the sewing machine from my mum though I’m not that good at it.
Figured out how to sand and mod a doll. Sanding from rough to smooth grit, what to use, how to sand with water so I don’t get so much dust
Figured out how to remove faceups using isopropyl alcohol and acetone, and where to find such stuff in Singapore
Learnt how to take photos, decided to learn more using a DSLR
Figured out how to use photoshop to edit photos and the effects in it way before I did started doing Architecture
Started making videos on youtube because I wanted more doll videos
Figured out how to cut wigs, furwigs and fibre wigs alike, to make the hairstyles I wanted my OCs to have
Figured out how to make costume jewelry for dolls, with simple tools bought off the shelf
Because I like Kpop (Infinite, Monsta X, Block B, Exo...), I:
Figured out how to make gifs in one day using online tutorials (already had photoshop skills then, which helped)
Started writing fanfic and now I have 4 years of fanfic written (a total 82 works, 453491 words published online, and there’s more in my drafts)
Through fanfic, learnt how to make stories that are appealing, did alot of research on tropes, different genres of story, different ways of story telling (kishotenketsu aka plot without conflict, which is different from the usual western way of plot with a distinct conflict etc). I figured out that I like slice of life alot for it’s mundane-ness, but also vampire fics alot. And that any sort of relationship with imbalances in power dynamics is not my jam. What I like and what I like to read have similarities but don’t overlap exactly. I also learn what polyamorous relationships are and generally a lot of lgbtq+ relationship dynamics and things that I don’t really get in traditional media
Made a ficfest with two online (Singaporean) fans for Infinite to encourage people to write more fics. Sure, we weren’t very successful but we tried really hard and we did this for almost a year, got a few authors to write a few stories, and we ourselves made over 50 moodboards for inspiration
Started looking at exercise as something positive, like, if the people I like enjoy exercising so much, and talk about its benefits, maybe there’s something in it for me. The biggest inspiration was Wonho who went from scrawny kid to buff dude but like, still remained really kind-hearted and soft and just, this whole combination wasn’t something I really learned to value from the way I was brought up, but it was an attitude I really admire regardless. And I learnt that I have the capacity to be moved by things like this, and to also adjust the biases or inherent assumptions I have
Did alot of research on BDSM and kinks and a lot of non-traditional things that I think I was always interested to know about and felt okay about actually reading up and knowing and writing and reading and discussing such things in a community of writers who did similar stuff. And realised there’s so much more in the dynamics behind these kinks, why people have them, how people can engage in them safely, what are safe practices and good practices, and just, having that knowledge also brings with it a better awareness of how similar power dynamics affect normal (unkinky) relationships
In a similar train of thought, to reserve judgement when I see people write or know or whatever certain things, because you can know something, write it, but not necessarily be agreeble to it (that’s why warning tags agree. It conveys self-awareness without telling the writer, no, you can’t write about this touchy taboo topic)
Learnt how to think horizontally when writing fics
Learnt how to get a beta to read my fics, or even why test readers (and cheerleaders) are important in a project like writing a fic. It’s my name on that fic but it’s with the help of alot of people sometimes, and that’s also why community matters
Thought about fandom, private spaces in online spheres and also constructive critique and non-constructive criticism and feedback on creative work
Read up on copyright laws, both for image use for moodboards, fanart and fanfic rights and ownership and whether one can make money off of it
Because I liked piercings, I:
Did research on how to get them safely, so so much research. From videos, from articles. Trying to figure out what’s credible, what’s not
Got piercings, also realised how biased I can be when someone has piercings. It’s a positive bias and completely groundless, like I see someone with piercings, it’s like +2 impression points or something, like I don’t know why. But it’s definitely something I should be aware of because of how seemingly groundless it is
Because I like unnaturally coloured hair, I:
Learnt how to bleach my hair with youtube tutorials and articles and learnt the dangers of doing so before I did it
Learnt how to dye my hair myself, how to transition between shades of cool and warm colours
Experimented and figured out the rest by actually dyeing my hair, enlisting the help of dorm mates
Learnt that purple is a colour that never shows up on my hair, maybe unless I bleach my hair to almost white
Learnt that I am/behave like a slightly different person with a different hair colour, and that such things affect not just my mood but how I perceive myself. And unnatural hair colours make me feel fun, but more importantly, that I can have them means I have time for myself (to dye my hair and to maintain it), and that kind of mindset is something I miss right now with my natural hair colour
Learnt that I am more open to change and okay with people talking about my hair than I thought, and that it’s fun to keep changing, but also maybe necessary for my psyche, to avoid feeling stagnant and boring
Because I like Peppertones, I:
Set up a tumblr and a blog for them in a day (helped that I’ve had a blogspot and tumblr account for ages before for other things)
Figured out a way to translate Korean songs to English even though my Korean is really really really basic. Like I can read Hangul, I can understand some words, but I can’t really write properly sentences by myself. But despite this, I wanted to know what their song lyrics are so much that I figured that I can use my ability to check a dictionary, my ability to read Chinese (so many things have Chinese translations compared to English), my cross referencing skills, and my Sec 2 literature inference skills to translate their songs despite my language incompetency. And so far I’ve modified 2.5 songs (i.e. added onto existing English translations to make it more accurate) and properly translated 1.5 songs with Chinese lyrics for reference. And there’s more songs in my drafts.
Figured out how to navigate Naver with mostly ctrl-c and ctrl-v of keywords
Compiled playlists of their live performances by individual songs, and created masterlists of their appearances and performances
Looked into Search Engine Optimisation to see how my peppertones blog can be more searchable for people like me who wanted translations of their songs, realising that blogspot is way more indexable than tumblr and finally understanding after so many years why my blogspot doll blog would show up on google image searches while my tumblr never really did
What I’m saying is, like things. Love things. Let your heart do what it wants. And then let these serve as your spark, your driver, and your direction (if for a little while). Let them inspire you, let them bring you to action, and let them remind you a little of why life is worth living. So much of this is not necessarily apparent at first glance because a lot of times, what we like may seem so trivial and trite and pointless, but the energy it offers can be so much more. I’ve learnt and picked up so many things along the way because I liked something so much that I HAD to learn something to do what I wanted to, and I cobbled my way to learning it with whatever available skills I have, and to research the heck out of whatever I didn’t know. And that is such a valuable lesson.
I got a bit caught up in the details while listing some of the things above, but I just wanted to write down what I could before I forget. Obviously if we want to assess, some of these skills are probably more valuable than others. But the point is, all these are things and skills and abilities and learning experiences that can be picked up, and built upon, and they don’t exist in isolation. And maybe the tiny pieces don’t make particularly good sense at this moment, nor do they seem particularly useful, but like leaves falling, over time they’ll make a pile, and if you like something enough, that’s going to be a big pile of leaves, and it’s up to you what you want to do with that.
Me? I’m going to make a bed to lie on with that pile of leaves with my mediocre sewing skills and listen to all the songs I like.

Asks for honestly any OCs you want, though it would be cool if you included Prometheus
1, 2, 7, 10, 25
Ooh sweet! I think I might do three characters: Jasper (since you know them), Prometheus (since you asked for them), and Indigo (my Star Wars OC, hardly ever get to use her in these things)
Thank you bestie! You're amazing!! Answers are under the cut:
What memory would your OC rather just forget?
Jasper: The night Kyle died is definitely at the top of the list. Even if things turned out alright in the end, they're never going to forget the sheer silence they felt when they learned that he had died, or the way they couldn't tell anyone else about it because Kyle (at that point at least) was the only one to know about their empathic link.
Prometheus: I feel like Prometheus wouldn't want to forget anything, even the bad parts. It's what keeps them motivated, after all, and reminds them where they came from. As bad as the memories are, Prometheus would want to hold onto them.
Indigo: She'd forget Corellia if she could. She spent her childhood there, and every memory is just of hardship and loss and abandonment. She'd rather just put that in the past, really.
2. What's something about your OC that people wouldn't expect just from looking at them?
Jasper: The fact that they do roller derby. They definitely look intense enough to enjoy it, but they're also pretty small and don't really look like they could knock someone over. Spoiler alert: they absolutely can, it's about momentum more than size, and they're small enough to slip through the gaps as a jammer.
Prometheus: Given how drastic of a change it was, people probably wouldn't suspect they were a nightmare before they were a dream - and they certainly wouldn't suspect which nightmare they had been unless they knew already.
Indigo: Her parentage, definitely. Given she herself didn't even know for like 95% of her life, there's no way people would guess it from looking at her.
7. What's one way your OC has changed since you first came up with them?
Jasper: Jeez... pretty much everything honestly. I think my first bare-bones idea was for them to be female rather than genderfluid, there was no mention of roller derby whatsoever (though they were still a nurse, that hasn't changed), and they were a true witch rather than an empath. But that felt way too basic and uninspired, and I couldn't see a whole lot of chemistry with Kyle. So I did a bit of reworking, and I'm infinitely happier about the way they turned out. They're one of my favorite OCs to write now :)
Prometheus: This OC was much more spur-of-the-moment than my other ones, given I wrote the entire fic in less than a week (and less than a week after I watched the Sandman too). There wasn't as much time to marinate this one. That being said, my first glimpse of this OC was as a pure dream, the transformation element came at the same time I had the idea for the two endings.
Indigo: Her name used to be Blue, and I changed it to Indigo to give it a little more substance and variation since she doesn't really use a last name. And in the initial version of her, I don't think she was a mechanic, just a spy. Though I think adding her job definitely fleshed her out a little more, gave her a passion that wasn't related to the Force or her love interest.
10. What's an AU that would be interesting to explore with your OC?
I don't really do AU work, so this one's particularly interesting to me.
Jasper: Hmm... maybe a role-reversal AU. It would be interesting to see how Kyle would react to having empathic or supernatural abilities (like if he were a warlock), and how Jasper's view of the world would change if they didn't have their empathic sense.
Prometheus: Given the amount of Greek mythology references there already are in the fic, I think it would be cool to just go all-out and do some kind of Greek myth AU, like a Homer-esque hero's journey. It would be a pretty lofty thing to write, but could be pretty interesting.
Indigo: Hmm... I'm thinking something more down-to-earth. Take away the sci-fi and make her a regular car mechanic, maybe, and make Zero a cat instead of the weird little space-ferret creature I came up with. Would be interesting.
25. What is your favorite thing about your OC?
Jasper: I LOVE writing the way they translate the emotions. It's a great stretch of creativity for me, and I always try to make it a little different than people have seen before, and it's just so fun to try and think about how emotions would manifest as physical sensations rather than traditional, well, emotions.
Prometheus: Again, this one's a little hard to answer since they're a much more isolated OC than the others. Usually I have full plotlines for each of them, but Prometheus exists only in a singular one-shot, at least for now. That being said, I really like their backstory, and it was fun to write the differences between Prometheus and Nyx when I did the Corruption ending - to try and examine what really made Prometheus a dream, and what made Nyx a nightmare.
Indigo: Hmm... I like her attitude honestly. She's been through a lot but still sees the world in a generally positive way, and tries to be kind to the people around her. It's really interesting to write a character that's both been through so much grief and still keeps trying to be a gentle, positive person.

Inktober!
Goodness how did October 1 get here so quickly...
So this year I’m going to aim to do Inktober again, much as I did last year: Draw something each day even if it’s terrible. (It’s improved a lot since the first drawings I did last October - but even so, terrible is acceptable since the kind of detail and care I’ve been putting into the latest Citlatl portraits takes more time than I have on most school nights. So a terrible doodle will do, some days.) Not really following a prompt list, not even the one @grumpy-jedi and I put together for PoE; the current plan is to work through the ref pictures I’ve saved for more of the Itzli and Coatl clans and also a near-infinite supply of dresses for Lenneth.
But I’d also like to draw some friends’ OCs somewhere in this mix! I have been collecting refs for some of you already... :-D However, dear friends & mutuals, if you have a character you’d like added to that list, please direct me to some reference pictures and I’ll see what I can do! I can’t promise to draw everything, depends on how many there are and how busy the non-Inktober side of the month turns out to be, but I look forward to drawing as many as I can!

GSoC logs (June 7–21)
To brief you into what I’m upto, The project is to develop an extension to oCIS that provides Jupyter notebook support in the ownCloud Infinite Scale platform(oCIS). Essentially, a user can preview Jupyter notebooks in the pheonix client itself and open it in SWAN. ** **
oCIS is a collection of services working together. Any extension we build is essentially a service and is similar to those residing in oCIS monorepo and built with go-micro.
Some services have a UI. Some don’t (Eg. thumbnails, wopiserver). These UIs are extended from ownCloud/web(pheonix) the client of oCIS written in Vue.js.
Find my project proposal here.
Jun 1
Synced all repos and ran ocis and phoenix.
Ocis isn’t running.
Okay, let’s try the ocis-simple flavour as mentioned in the docs.
Following https://owncloud.dev/ocis/development/extensions/ Inside ocis-extension-workshop/ocis
TAGS=simple make generate build cd ocis make build
Build failed.
Not generating build in ocis/ocis/
“Error - make: *** No rule to make target ‘build’. Stop.” - ???
cd into ocis/ directory and make build
"error":“unable to register services: rgrpc: grpc service usershareprovider could not be started, : error loading the file containing the shares: error decoding data from json: json: cannot unmarshal object into Go struct field jsonEncoding.shares of type string”
https://github.com/owncloud/ocis/issues/83 HARD TO FOLLOW. CONFUSED IF I NEED OCIS_SIMPLE AT ALL
Tried following the instructions anyway - FAILED AGAIN
make: *** No rule to make target 'build’. Stop.
https://github.com/owncloud/ocis/issues/177#issuecomment-758545224 Nooo
Check through rest of issues to see what happened to ocis-simple.
Found nothing. ASSUMPTION: ocis-simple is dead. Enough with ocis-simple. Try to work with all of ocis. June 2
Wait, I can build my own ocis-simple. Unlimited power!!
ocis-simple starts the same services as:
bin/ocis micro bin/ocis web bin/ocis hello bin/ocis reva
So kill all the other services.
./bin/ocis kill glauth && ./bin/ocis kill graph && ./bin/ocis kill graph-explorer && ./bin/ocis kill idp && ./bin/ocis kill ocs && ./bin/ocis kill onlyoffice && ./bin/ocis kill proxy && ./bin/ocis kill settings && ./bin/ocis kill storage-authbasic && ./bin/ocis kill storage-authbearer && ./bin/ocis kill storage-frontend && ./bin/ocis kill storage-gateway && ./bin/ocis kill storage-groupsprovider && ./bin/ocis kill storage-home && ./bin/ocis kill storage-metadata && ./bin/ocis kill storage-public-link && ./bin/ocis kill storage-sharing && ./bin/ocis kill storage-users && ./bin/ocis kill storage-users-provider && ./bin/ocis kill store && ./bin/ocis kill thumbnails && ./bin/ocis kill webdav
That’s really long.
Failed terribly.
Some of those services need others to work.
Trying to kill one by one with my intuitive priority list. This is madness.
What exactly is idp? What’s ldap?
Something to do with auth.
Okay, let’s work with ocis itself.
Why isn’t it building suddenly? Look through commits afterwards.
Login failing. “Invalid credentials” Anything to do with this? https://github.com/owncloud/ocis/issues/1887

Okay, so IDP let’s you authenticate to ocis. It uses OpenID Connect. (Read about it later.)
Okay, I should dig into what’s going on in authentication.
June 3
cd into ocis/ directory and make build
"error":“unable to register services: rgrpc: grpc service usershareprovider could not be started, : error loading the file containing the shares: error decoding data from json: json: cannot unmarshal object into Go struct field jsonEncoding.shares of type string”
Retry - failed
Retry after syncing. - failed
There was a recent release, following release notes instructions. - failed again
Last straw - delete /var/tmp/ocis altogether
make generate && cd ocis && make build
Yaay. build happened with couple warnings. Okay, fixed. Ocis is up and running.
Trying to setup ocis-hello. Okay, there’s this boilr thingy to bootstrap an ocis-extension template.
You’ve waited enough. Go watch the snyder cut.
I have newfound respect for flash.
I might have underestimated the frontend part. There’s a markdown example in the docs.
Checked markdown app in phoenix. Didn’t understand much. We’ll see.
June 5
I now have a vague idea about some important services in ocis. A big picture.
Trying to setup ocis-hello.
Trying to install boilr.
Installation failed. Some sort of $GOPATH issue.
Okay, turns out my go installation wasn’t properly done.
Followed https://golang.org/doc/install
boilr installation failed again. boilr: command not found
I’m losing interest in this. Let’s just try working on ocis-hello fork until I figure this out.
Both produces same code, and I guess I can just replace all variable names.
June 6
Enough. Setup ocis-hello already.
New issues.
looping state after login - UNSURE why it’s happening.
Okay, only happens randomly. But why?
“Authentication failed” on trying http://localhost:9100/#/hello bc I wasn’t redirected.
“Missing config” feedback.
Copied example.json to config.json in ocis-hello/config
make clean && make generate build
Rerun ocis-hello
Still not redirecting to http://localhost:9100/#/hello, so manually trying.
Still Authentication failed
Try yarn build again. still nothing.
Wait, it’s not supposed to redirect to localhost:9100.
Meet with GSoC admins at CERN, Andrie. Andrei? -* Reasons to fail -
Fail to deliver code
Fail to contact mentors
A summerised blog post at the end of period. * Tomorrow starts the coding period. Everything has to go well.
Week #1 ( June 7-13 )
Jun 09
Following configuration-with-ocis.md. How did I miss that.
Okay, added respective config in ocis proxy and phoenix. - Failed.
Rerun with phoenix from ocis monorepo itself. After changing config. - failed again.
Should I add ocis-hello in apps property of web-config? Nop.
June 10
Ping the api with postman.
So the service is actually working. Atleast the http api.
Not sure if the grpc api is working. Is there some client like postman or curl for a grpc api?
There are tools in vscode. And this https://github.com/fullstorydev/grpcurl
Okay, no requests are received at hello-server.
But hello.js is served at localhost:9200/hello.js
Is the proxy working right?
Jun 11
Meet with mentors.
Need to work on my communication skills.
Lukas mentioned a mistake in the config docs. It was in the proxy config. Makes sense now.
I forgot what he said. Should’ve recorded the whole thing ;_;
Oh, there’s an issue.
Okay, still not working.
Even hello.js not served now.
Week #2 (June 14-20)
June 15 - Tuesday
I was finally able to set up ocis-hello.
The proxywasn’t picking up the config.
Had to start it seperately like so,
sudo PROXY_CONFIG_FILE=/home/anaswaratrajan/cern/owncloud/ocis/proxy/config/proxy-example.json ./bin/proxy
Have to submit the project report for primy. Great. Perfect timing.
Achachan’s adiyanthiram. Pooja and stuff going on this whole week.
Fixed ocis-hello - a typo in web-config
June 16 - Wednesday
Customised ocis-hello working clone to ocis-jupyter
Pending college assignments. Is there no end to this? Will resume saturday.
Nop. Have to finish now or I’ll fail 404 and 472. And there’s no hope with 404 if I fail once.
Why isn't draw-io running again? mediaviewer is working. wait, markdown also not working. I thought they came with pheonix without need for further setup.
June 17 - Thursday
I woke up at 10. But that’s alright.
started a fresh remote repository ocis-jupyter and committed everything so far.
How do I add a new file type ipynb. Wait, I don’t need to. Phoenix offers ways to do that. I just need to specify it in the appinfo object. Cool.
How do I add new file actions - Open in SWAN, Open for preview. Again specify in appinfo.
It seems I’m extending the appinfo object in the web-runtime.
So appinfo and other objects in app.js is being appended to the main objects in web-runtime.
Wait, appended? What’s it called when objects are merged together with Object.assign?
Okay, all apps inside phoenix seem to be doing the same.
Not just appinfo, some other objects as well, okay, what exactly is web-runtime?
I’m able to add new file menu actions but in the sidebar, they just appear as “Open in OCIS-JUPYTER”
Why is this happening?
Let’s dig into web-runtime.
That was a bad idea. I should get their help.
Just look into existing apps in phoenix.
Files app and markdown-editor seems understandable.
Why isn’t draw-io running? Low priority check later.
Read more into docs.
Binged on ~20 episodes of tokyo ghoul. Are you mad? You’ll die with no sleep.
Ocis is huge.
June 18
Reading docs again.
Going through web-runtime again.
I can’t add multiple file actions “Open in SWAN” and “Open in Preview”
Both coming up as “Open in ocis-jupyter”.
So these are file actions.
Trying to make sense of the codebase.
Going through some js fatigue. Okay, idk anything. Yet. ;_;
I had a good run playing horses in my mind.. Beach house is depressing.
Switch to daft punk for some days.
Going through web-runtime. I’m probably wasting time with this.
See how file handlers work again.
Binged on the next 2 seasons.
Arima kills himself. Ending was dripping cheesy.
Okay, back to file handlers, =services to checko ut =>
Markdown editor, wopiserver, draw-io, thumbnails, media-viewer, onlyoffice* Wait, not thumbnails, it doesn’t have a UI. So it accesses the files from ocis directly. Interesting
That sounds like the right way. But let’s see how the other services are doing it from pheonix itself.
Draw-io isn’t running for some reason, eventhough it’s inside phoenix itself. I should probably ask. Nop.
June 19
What’s with the routes list inside appInfo.extensions?
It has sth to do with the sidebar.
I should check on it later and focus on file han
Went through files-app. No luck understanding.
Thumbnails -
Okay so, It takes a webdav urls and gives back thumbnails to those files?
What exactly is webdav? Okay the definition sounds confusingly similar to WOPI protocol.

11 year old Ben’s new batch of 10! Updated powers n such under the cut!
Swampfire has the ability to regrow his body over and over again from even the worst type of damage. He has a heated inner core that allows him to create fire from his charcoal-like hands. When snapping his fingers together, a spark ignites the methane gases his body produces, allowing him to create fire. Being a being that LIVES on heat, Swampfire can withstand almost any type of hot temperatures. Swampfire is pretty resilient against many things, but if in extremely col environments, he is greatly weakened. He has a TERRIBLE odor due to the methane gas (although not as bad as Stinkfly’s stank) so hiding ain’t easy. For this design, I tried merging all of his concept designs, along with his blossomed form while adding a bit of my own flare to it. Heh, flare. Like fire. As in the alien above. The one that controls fire. Aptly named Swampfire. I wish I was dead.
For Echo Echo’s new design, I kinda wanted to return to form on this one. While I love Omniverse’s style and a lot of their redesign’s (I mean it IS practically the only art style I try to go for when drawing Ben 10), there are a few redesigns that don’t really strike me as the best. Echo Echo kinda being on of them. My only complaint was making him more pudgy-looking and giving him bulbous bug eyes. So, I kinda used his old design while keeping in tune with Omniverse’s design. Echo Echo is like a living amplifier. Covered in head to toe with a biosuit allowing him to create copies of himself, Echo Echo can duplicate and increase his amplitude tenfold. However, he can’t make infinite copies of himself. His max limit for clones is around 10 to 15. Anymore than that can weaken him and make his amplification less powerful. So if you’re expecting an army, you’re out of luck.
For Humungousaur’s new design I didn’t necessarily change much despite his power set is a tad different. AS for his clothing, I absolutely LOVE giving Vaxasaurians MMA-style clothing (shorts and gloves, primarily). I liked how it looks on my OC, Brawlasaurus, so I wanted to do it with Humungousaur too! Humungousaur is one one of Ben’s strongest, and largest aliens (besides Way Big). Humungousaur is pretty much just a large humanoid-like Dinosaur alien ranging up to 20 feet tall. He has IMMENSE strength (surpassing Four Arms), and very durable, incredibly dense, armor-like skin. But, like every alien, he has his weaknesses. Vaxasaurians are notorious for being cold-blooded creatures. Meaning if they were ever in contact with harsh, cold elements, their strength and size would dwindle and could possibly even die. So if a Vaxasaurian were to ever pick a fight with a Necrofriggian, chances are the Necrofriggian would come out the victor. And before anyone asks, no. My versions of Vaxasaurians do not sporadically change their size and grow plates of armor. They’re already large enough and have dense skin.
Instead of flying fast, Jetray is able to merely glide quickly in the air. In the water, however, he’s an incredibly fast swimmer. He can still breathe both on land and in water. Instead of shooting lasers from his eyes and tail, he merely has the ability to do so from his eyes. His tail is now able to shoot out a very long, VERY sharp paralytic barb that he can regrow. For this redesign I wanted to keep Jetray’s colors/stripes and such, but have a few of his features to feel a tad more alien. So I decided to simply restructure his face and change his abilities.
Big Chill’s power set is not that different from what we’ve seen. He still has the ability to freeze things by blowing incredibly cold gases/wind onto an opponent, freezing them instantly. He also has the ability to become intangible and phase through different objects, even freezing them inside-out if he chooses. Big Chill now has the added ability to create large ice structures over his limbs in order to make any punch/kick twice as powerful. Big Chills species can survive the cold vacuum of space, however they are still susceptible to incredibly hot temperatures. Was really excited for this one since Big Chill was an old fave of mine. For his design, I really wanted to keep the buff look Omniverse gave him, since I sorta felt his more scrawny-look made him look like a dude in a suit (a problem I feel UAF had a lot of times with their designs). I wanted to give him a lil fur, like an actual moth, and an exposed rib cage that has a translucent sack that can sorta show his organs (although a tad hard to see in the pose, my bad). I also REALLY wanted to keep the hood he always wears, so I had the idea that to top part of his wings stay on his head when he’s gliding, but when he needs to fly faster they flow outward, giving him more air to fly on.
Chromastone is still a subspecies of Petrosapiens known as a Crystalsapien. However, this subspecies mainly lives deep underground, illuminating the dark caves and catacombs. They absorb large amounts of light when they’re on the surface and “feed it” to the core of Petropia, thus containing the planet as a whole. The crystal on his head allows him to shoot a wide range of powerful beams of light that can disintegrate an object in no time flat. He can also create light energy-based barriers to defend himself (an evolutionary trait his species learned to not be crushed by any cave-ins). Nothing too different from the last redesign I did for, but merely simplified it and gave him a new outfit.
For his powers/skill set, Brainstorm is one of Ben’s most strategic and analytical aliens on the roster. Able to calculate practically ANYTHING (whether it being complex math equations, enemy attacks, etc.) Brainstorm proves to be a go-to alien when needed for complex issues Ben can’t solve on his own. Brainstorm can produce and manipulate electricity in a variety of useful forms, including shoving/launching or shocking enemies, creating protective force fields of energy by opening the exoskeleton plates on his skull. Brainstorm is often very cold an calculating, so a lot of his calculations don’t involve how other may feel about his solutions. His species is also very boastful, so he may get stuck on admiring how intelligent he is. Nothing all that different for Brainstorm in terms of design, pretty much just an addition of the sharp, winged ridge around his dome. Felt like it gave him some mad scientist “hair” in a weird way. .
For his skill sets, Spidermonkey is not too different. He’s now equipped with sharp, prehensile spider-like arms and a paralytic/venomous bite. Spidermonkey’s webs are about as strong as a lightweight cable, and sticky enough to latch on to just about any surface. Spidermonkey is able to climb on just about anything, although places with sooth surfaces can be pretty hard for him to grasp on to. Spidermonkey is INCREDIBLY agile, able to dodge many attacks and can jump insanely high. However, he’s not as strong as you might think. He relies far too much on his webbing, but can only organically spin out as much as he can. He can be easily caught off guard and taken down, depending on his adversary. For this design, I really wanted to hammer in the whole spider aspect about Spidermonkey, since I sorta feel his design was pretty much just a monkey with extra limbs and weird eyes. However, I didn’t want to stray away from his initial design he had in UAF. I didn’t really like the hair design they went with in Omniverse, so I kept the UAF style since it gave him more of a spider-looking head.
This Goop doesn’t need his Anti-Gravity Projector to move, however if he’s on a planet with little to no gravity, his body will move aimlessly and sporadically. He’s still able to make his goop acidic, and can fit between any crease or crevice. However, if the Omnitrix (which is now located inside his body for convenience) is removed from his body it will return Ben to his human form. His one major weakness is large amounts of water. If submerged, his body will dilute and also cause Ben to revert back to his human form. Goop’s species is immune to heat, but can be slowed down in much more frigged temperatures. Nothing too different from the first redesign I did of him, just felt like putting him in an old pose he’s had before.
And last but certainly not least, Alien X! I really loved his initial look, so the only thing I really wanted to was give him clothes inspired by OS suits and the Galactic Gladiator outfit. I also wanted to make the three horns on his head to be the same color green that Serena and Bellicus are to show how there are three entities controlling Alien X (including Ben, obviously). Alien X is at the TOP of the most powerful aliens list. He’s omnipotent, being able to warp reality, time, and space with ease and at any level. He’s so powerful he can even recreate the universe if need be! However, that doesn’t mean these tasks are easy… A major weakness for the most powerful alien in the universe is simply coming to a decision on what to do. Sounds dumb right? It should be easy knowing what to do immediately. Wall crumbles? Just rebuild it using your thoughts. City being wiped out by typhoon? Just reverse the effects of the planet to calm it down. Bad guy going on a rampage? Teleport him to the nearest dimension. Well, it wouldn’t be hard to actually do those things, but it depends on every variable you could dream of. Ben often goes to Serena and Bellicus (the two other halves of a Celestialsapien that they all have) to see what to do. Serena tells Ben how one decision can solve the situation, while Bellicus tells him how it could also mess with events going on ANYWHERE in the universe. Not only that, but Alien X’s powers are so difficult for Ben to manage that any one of his abilities can mess with the fabric of reality itself. While in this form, Ben would have to be absolutely emotionless and analytical. All three must come to a conclusion that ends up solving the problem, while not damaging any part of the space-time continuum. You can probably imagine how that sort of thing can be really difficult for an 11 year old who barely knows what cereal to get at the super market. Not only that, but turning into Alien X takes a major tole on Ben’s psyche. After transforming back, Ben still hears voices and gets major headaches. He has trouble sleeping at night, thinking about every action he takes that could have a negative or positive effect. It really messes with him for a while, making Alien X one of his most powerful, and harmful aliens to transform into.
