Chapter & Multiverse Fan Fic #1 : Confrontations

“Anyway~” Linh exclaimed, “I better get going to catch the bus back home. I’ve had fun today!”

Both Adeeb and Lucas grinned joyfully in response. It’s the last day of summer. Tomorrow they'll start college, and each has their own path. It’s going to be harder to meet up as they used to. All three have been friends since they were in 1st grade. Tomorrow will be the first day that all three of them don’t share a classroom.

Unfortunately, the happy blissful mood disappeared with Linh. Adeeb glared angrily and silently at Lucas.

“Don’t give me that,” Lucas exclaimed in frustration. “What is it this time?”

“You know what it is! I know what’s in your pockets. Why do you keep doing this? We could have easily bought these things! You didn’t need to steal them!” Adeeb’s emotions were all over the place contrasting with Lucas’s unfazed demeanor.

“No, YOU could have easily bought it. I don’t need any charity from anyone, I can…” Adeeb cut him off, yelling angrily, “CHARITY!?” before giving him a light shove.

“Is this how you see us? We’re family! I’ve known you my whole life. There’s no charity between friends and family. We help each other because we care for each other.”

Lucas let out a long sigh before sitting on the bench behind him. People were looking, and that made him more uncomfortable. It took a minute before Adeeb took a deep breath, calming down, and then sitting next to him. It felt like an eternity, both looking ahead silently at the people coming in and out of the mall.

“Do you think Linh noticed?” asked Lucas.

“I… don’t know. Probably not. They worship you, you know? They always brag about how awesome you are.” Adeeb replied, with a hint of sadness in his voice. “They’d be very disappointed to see you using your powers like that.”

Lucas pulled out a yo-yo from his pocket, still in its packaging. He tore the package and started throwing the yo-yo in a walk-the-dog motion. But the yo-yo kept spinning continuously before pulling up to do the same motion but in the air, defying gravity. A smile started to sneak onto Adeeb’s face. “You’re really amazing, Lucas.” Lucas smiled confidently before throwing the yo-yo up, letting go of its string, and levitating it towards Adeeb with his telekinesis. Adeeb opened his hands to catch it falling. “And when are YOU going to share with us about YOUR power?” Adeeb’s hands froze, and the yo-yo fell on the ground rolling away. Lucas patted Adeeb’s leg upon that reaction to his words. “Yeah, I figured as much. I don’t know exactly how it works, but I’ve put things together so far to have a general idea. I’m not school smart, but I am very observant.”

Lucas reached out his hand, focusing on the yo-yo, pulling it to roll back with his mind, stopping it at Adeeb’s feet.

"I... I didn't plan on hiding from all of you. It's just..."

Adeeb picks it up. A moment of silence passes like an eternity before he continues “… I don’t know…. I haven’t really mastered it yet, and it’s nothing cool like yours. Best I can do is make it easier for me to work on my costumes, and that’s already a problem for me with my Dad as it is and I just…

“So it’s your Dad, huh?” Lucas interrupted him.

“You know how it is. apparently being a tailor is fine to do as a living, but doing it for fun and a creative outlet isn’t… manly enough. Imagine if he finds out not only do I make costumes, my power kinda makes me really good at it.”

“Listen… “Lucas placed his hands inside his pocket and spun around to face Adeeb “… I get what you’re going through, but your family is kinda cool. You should give it a try, what’s the worst that could happen?”

Before Adeeb gets a chance to reply, Lucas’ phone starts ringing. He picks it up, looking at the name and hangs up without answering.

“Well, I got to get going now. Tell Linh I’m sorry I won’t be able to join you all on campus. Hopefully things work out for me and we’ll get to meet again in the future.”

Lucas started walking away, waving his hand in a goodbye motion without looking back.

Adeeb stayed behind for a few minutes, thinking about his friends breaking apart, and fear seeping in considering how he’d talk to his family. He stood up looking at the yo-yo left to him by Lucas.

“I should… probably go pay for this thing…”

Não tenho certeza se algum outro livro é uma fonte melhor de informações sobre o jadidismo. O foco de Khalid no "espírito" do jadidismo - como eles viam o mundo ao redor deles e como o mundo os via - dá ao leitor uma boa ideia daquilo pelo que eles lutaram.

Os jadids eram incrivelmente progressistas para sua época, e a maioria dos valores que eles defendiam são compartilhados por nós no Ocidente nos dias modernos. Eles viam o tratamento adequado das mulheres como igual aos homens, exigiam educação para todos e viam os grupos que estavam se saindo melhor do que eles (como judeus e armênios) nas mesmas circunstâncias como simplesmente mais educados(em vez de inimigos), defendendo que seu próprio povo os visse como exemplos de autoaperfeiçoamento.

Para mim, isso é prova de que o mundo Islâmico não é incompatível com a sociedade civil. Infelizmente, ele enfrenta muitos dos contratempos que os Jadids viram naquela época (exploração e intimidação total por nações maiores, são empurrados para trás em seus avanços por tradicionalistas, etc.), mas o espírito do Islam é o progresso, e estou confiante de que veremos a religião avançar com o tempo.

Dei 4/5 magen porque a formatação do livro é um pouco confusa, embora eu tenha lido apenas uma edição. Alguns parágrafos são bem longos e quebram o fluxo de leitura.

ادیب بھائی سے برسوں پرانا تعلق ہے، وہ ہمارا فخر ہیں۔ ان جیسی دردمندی ہر کسی میں نہیں ہوتی۔ ان کے جذبے اور لگن نے آج SIUT کو جو مقام دیا ہے وہ برسوں کی انتھک محنت کا نتیجہ ہے۔ ابھی حال ہی میں انھوں نے ریجنٹ پلازہ ہوٹل خرید کر وہاں SIUT کا اسپتال قائم کیا ہے۔ میں نہ صرف ان کی مزید کامیابی کی دعا گو ہوں بلکہ یہ خواہش بھی رکھتی ہوں کہ آنے والے وقت میں پاکستان میں بہت سے ادیب رضوی پیدا ہوں۔ پاکستان میں یورولوجی اور نیفرالوجی کے شعبے میں اگر کسی شخصیت نے اپنی بے لوث خدمات اور انسانی ہمدردی کے ذریعے انقلابی تبدیلی لائی ہے تو وہ ہیں ڈاکٹر ادیب رضوی۔ ڈاکٹر ادیب رضوی جو کہ سندھ انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف یورولوجی اینڈ ٹرانسپلانٹیشن (SIUT) کے بانی ہیں انھوں نے اپنی زندگی غریبوں اور ضرورت مندوں کی خدمت میں گزاری ہے۔ ان کی رہنمائی کی بدولت SIUT نہ صرف پاکستان بلکہ دنیا بھر میں ایک مثال کے طور پر جانا جاتا ہے۔ ڈاکٹر ادیب رضوی نے ڈاؤ میڈیکل کالج کراچی سے میڈیکل کی ڈگری حاصل کرنے کے بعد یورولوجی اور نیفرالوجی کی اعلیٰ تعلیم برطانیہ اور امریکا میں حاصل کی۔ ڈاکٹر رضوی نے جدید ترین طریقوں کو سیکھا، جو بعد میں انھوں نے پاکستان میں استعمال کیے۔

ان کی تعلیم نے انھیں نہ صرف جدید طبی علم سے آراستہ کیا بلکہ انھیں دنیا بھر میں صحت کے نظام کے بارے میں بھی آگاہی فراہم کی۔ اسی وقت انھوں نے یہ محسوس کیا کہ پاکستان میں صحت کے شعبے میں بہتری لانے کے لیے ایک نیا اور منفرد طریقہ کار اپنانا ہو گا، جو ذمے داری حکومت کو نبھانی ��اہیے تھی وہ ڈاکٹر ادیب رضوی نے اپنے سر لے لی۔ 1980 کی دہائی میں پاکستان کو صحت کے شعبے میں سنگین مشکلات کا سامنا تھا۔ یورولوجی اور نیفرالوجی کے ماہرین کی کمی تھی اور جدید علاج کی سہولتیں بہت کم تھیں۔ ڈاکٹر ادیب رضوی نے اس صورتحال کو دیکھتے ہوئے ایک ایسا ادارہ قائم کرنے کا عہد کیا جس میں عام آدمی کو معیاری اور سستی طبی خدمات فراہم کی جاسکیں۔ دسمبر 1985 میں ڈاکٹر ادیب رضوی اور ان کی ٹیم نے گردے کی پیوند کاری کا پہلا کامیاب آپریشن کیا جس پر پورے ملک میں نہ صرف خوشی کی لہر دوڑ گئی تھی بلکہ ہر طرف اس کا ذکر تھا۔ یہ ایک بہت بڑی کامیابی تھی۔ ڈاکٹر ادیب اور ان کی ٹیم نے SIUT کو ایشیا کا سب سے بڑا اسپتال بنا دیا جہاں مریضوں کا مفت علاج ہوتا ہے۔

اس طریقے میں، دو یا زیادہ افراد جو گردہ دینے کے لیے رضامند ہیں، مگر ان کا گردہ ایک دوسرے کے مریضوں کے ساتھ میل نہیں کھاتا، ایک دوسرے کے ساتھ تبادلہ کرتے ہیں۔ اس طرح، ہر مریض کو ایک ایسا گردہ مل جاتا ہے جو اس کے جسم کے لیے موزوں ہوتا ہے۔ ان کے کام نے نہ صرف پاکستان میں گردوں کی ٹرانسپلانٹیشن کے عمل کو فروغ دیا بلکہ عالمی سطح پر بھی اس کی اہمیت کو اجاگر کیا۔ ڈاکٹر رضوی کی زندگی کا مقصد صرف علاج کرنا نہیں بلکہ صحت کے شعبے میں عوامی آگاہی بھی پیدا کرنا تھا۔ انھوں نے اعضاء کا عطیہ، خون کا عطیہ اور صحت کے بنیادی مسائل پر عوامی سطح پر مہم چلائی۔ ان کی کوششوں سے لوگوں میں گردوں کی بیماریوں، ان کے علاج اور پیشگی احتیاطی تدابیر کے بارے میں آگاہی پیدا ہوئی۔ ڈاکٹر رضوی نے پاکستان میں گردوں کی بیماری کی روک تھام کے لیے مختلف اقدامات کیے۔ انھوں نے خاص طور پر ذیابیطس اور ہائی بلڈ پریشر جیسے عوامل پر توجہ مرکوز کی، جو گردوں کی بیماری کا سبب بن سکتے ہیں۔ انھوں نے عوامی سطح پر ان بیماریوں کے بارے میں آگاہی پیدا کرنے کے لیے مہم چلائی، تاکہ لوگ صحت مند طرز زندگی اپنا سکیں۔
