cute throwaway line from network effect that caught my eye on reread: amena sheepishly informing secunit that perihelion told her she could call it art. like! how do we think that even happened? art introduces itself as perihelion. secunit calls it art. do you think amena asked what to call it, and art picked secunit's moniker over its actual name (heartwarming, adorable)? do you think art asked to be called art without prompting (also freaking adorable)? do you think amena called it art without thinking about it, and then doesn't even realize until calling it that a couple times and it doesn't correct her, and then asking if she can call it that and getting a yes (also adorable!) like, no matter how you slice it, art gives amena permission to call it art over its actual designation. it uses murderbot's nickname over its designation. while it and murderbot are fighting!
