Here is a list of my favorite DP fics! Most of them are not particularly recent, because I am Behind On The Times. For example, I still haven’t read “A Snapping Sound”, so it’s not included here, but I understand that it is very good. You may have read most of these already! But on the off chance you haven't, please enjoy perusing this lovingly hand-selected and alphabetized list.

Love that your getting into danny phantom lately. Got a fav fanfic in the fandom to rec?

I always love when people ask if I’m new to the Phandom as if I wasn’t there April 3rd 2004 watching Mystery Meat live and then proceeded to dedicate 4 solid years of my life to the show and take my first steps in the world of fandom.

I have a lot of old school reccs from FF but I’ll stick to some of my recent favs I’ve found on AO3.

Exhumed by Masalias is what started me back down the familiar rabbit hole of DP love. Basically Danny left a body behind after the accident and its accidentally found launching Amity’s first murder investigation and leaving Danny all sorts of uncomfortable. 

A Snapping Sound by Represent traumatized me in the best way. They wrote some dope ass fics from FF that still make my chest hurt, Little Fires in particular made me scream. Anyway, Sam is new to Amity Park, moves into the local haunted house. A series of murders and suicides occur leaving her to unravel a 50 year old murder mystery with no good way out. 

Exposed by ADraconicScribe oh I am obsessed with this fic. I have always had a weakness for DP fics centered around a ghost war with Danny’s secret on the line. I have a dozen in my FF fic list. Basically Phantom gets outed as half human which causes the ghost hunters to reevaluate him even as a ghost named Empress slowly conquers the Zone. Great characterizations, great plot, great world building and ghost biology. 

Humans and Ghosts by RedGhost1010 oh this one hurt deeply. Jack and Maddie are extracting ghost cores and it really upsets activists, ghosts and Danny who can feel those ghosts being obliterated. It’s a moral debate on whether ghosts deserve basic respect and the Fenton’s loving but neglectful and harmful parenting. 

A Different Kind of Hero by RedGhost1010 this was kind of an alternate take to My Brother’s Keeper where Spectra talked to everyone else but Danny and he sees the abject depression and mental illness and works on getting his classmates out of their funk before something truly bad happens. 

Smells Like Teen Spirit by UnluckyAlis this one had me cackling the whole time. Amity is used to Danny’s unnatural presence but out of towners are unconsciously terrified of the tall, skinny boy. Casper High students use it to their advantage and make him their mascot to scare off competitors. 

end of the beginning by deuynndrabbles a good ole 5 + 1 of people noticing that Danny Fenton is hecking weird.

Glowsticks by DarkNymfa this one was a short little shot with interesting implications. Danny and Val go to a blacklight rave essentially and discover something interesting hidden under their skin in the blacklight.

What a Nice Surprise by DarkNympha, Jack and Maddie have an alliance with Pahntom. He helps them with (humane) research and they help him when he’s injured. The more time they spend with him, the more they connect him with their odd, wayward son. 

Red Flags by avearia Danny is referred to an actual decent, human school counceller who takes one look at the entire mess that is Danny Fenton and realizes there is something, deeply unsettlingly wrong with the boy and he doesn’t know if he can help.

D&D: By wastefulreverie: Lester, Mikey, and Nathan were standing beside him. Mikey was fumbling with three jagged-sided dice while Lester and Nathan glared at each other. Realizing that he was awake, Lester broke eye contact with Nathan. Awkwardly, he put his hand on Danny's shoulder. "Do you want to join our campaign?" he blurted.

Danny tilted his head skeptically, "Join your what?"

Making Something Out of Nothing: By wastefulreverie: When Ishiyama calls Danny into her office, the last thing he expected was to be offered a job.

Tiny Little Pieces of Ours: By Bellovebug: Danny Fenton was a dreamer. A dreamer of stars, of galaxies, of spaceships and sunsets and snow. He was a dreamer of wildflowers in the forest, of messages left on the insides of folders set up to take a test, of Polaroids an unknown person has dropped on the street. He was a dreamer of the things that didn't matter, because the things that did scared him.

But dreams don't last forever. And when Danny is gone, he leaves many in his wake.

With a new villain rising and lines to learn, the people of Amity start to see that there may be more to their resident ghost boy than meets the eye.

I’m Still Here: By Cordria: Buried in the backyard, Danny's locked away in a forgotten Thermos. When it's finally found seventy years later, Danny is released and he needs to learn to deal with his new life. Can he survive what the future can throw at him?

When the portal activates, a newly half-human Phantom stumbles into Jack's lab, barely a painfully familiar blue-eyed, black haired form.

my favourite at the moment is either exposed by ADraconicScribe or A Play To Remember by AppleScentedLazers!! Both of them cater to my personal tastes and i enjoy them a lot. BUT i also really enjoy Switch by dumbdpaus!!!

Neverending Hum by Lemon Demon reminds me of Tucker for some reason? maybe its the electronic noises and the silliness but it makes me think of him!

additionally, Have I Always Looked This Way? by Bulldog Eyes reminds me of Danny, mostly about his struggle with his identity as Phantom that a lot of people like to represent in fan content!

danny gets a ghost sickness that makes him act...uh, odd. sam, tucker, and jazz have to babysit him while he goes to school. it's a sequel to The Halfa Hiccups (one of my fave fics) where danny tries to get rid of his hiccups because apparently it makes him switch forms. both fics are hilarious.

Why do i love it? because its so goddamn funny oh my god. plus it has some focus on valerie, and on some of the background characters (mikey, nathan, lester) so thats fun

OK so this isnt really a reveal fic BUT it does include paulina learning about danny's secret so im including it in my list anyway.

basically, it's a danny/paulina fic (with a hint of danny/sam) in which paulina wishes to get close to the ghost boy and gets her life switched with sam's. of course shes too dumb to figure out his secret until the very end but its still a good read

Why do i love it? normally i dont like romantic fics (in fact i hate them) but this one was written so well that i couldnt stop reading it. the author really knew how to get in depth with paulina's character. plus there arent many good danny/paulina fics out there and this one is great

this isnt a reveal fic either but it does include maddie and jack learning about their son's secret, so...

ANYWAY im pretty sure almost everyone in the phandom has already read this, but just in case you're new and havent read it yet then you DEFINITELY SHOULD. it is a phandom CLASSIC, and it has so much dang angst!! PoT is a dissection fic in which maddie gets hired by the GiW to study phantom, and SoaD is about the repercussions this has on danny and maddie's relationship. both fics will absolutely rip your heart out.

Why do i love it? PoT is actually what got me into fanfiction in the first place. before i read it, i used to think all fanfiction is just smut written by fans with too much time on their hands. but then i joined the danny phandom, and i saw everyone talking about this fic so i got curious and read it, and!! its SO GOOD??? the way it was written really pulls you in and makes you want to read the next chapter as soon as youre done with the first. i finished the entire fic in like 2 days then read its sequel. both are GREAT.

plus, angst. you can never go wrong with that.

If you like long stories of Danny being exposed, well written and realistic versions of canon characters, a fascinating ghost war and the inherent humanity of both humans and ghosts with a dash of ghost biology then you have to read Exposed by ADraconicScribe. I’ve been binging it over the last few days and fam, its so good. I’ve read so many DP fics over the years even ones with vaguely similar ideas but this one really stood out, quickly went into my top favs list.
