2: he's a temp hero who's trying to figure out how to befriend Marinette. it's very "Hot-and-Cold" currently with Chloe manipulating the situation, Adrien being a well-meaning doormat who lets his "childhood friend" get away with FAR too much, and Marinette having closed her heart, but the more he finds out about Mari's situation the more of a backbone he'll grow. After all, he'll either learn to bend or break.

Ok we have another one to add to the list!!!!!!

So I've seen a lot of people arguing about the whole "but Marinette made the decision for him!" thing in Werepapas, and honestly I think it's another Lady Macbeth/Baby It's Cold Outside scenario.

So the argument here, if you don't know it, is whether Lady Macbeth pressured Macbeth into killing the King, or whether she saw that it was what he wanted to do, and encouraged him because his conscience was getting in the way of something he clearly wanted to do. I can't be arsed to explain Baby It's Cold Outside but you get the gist.

So, the argument here is - Adrien still doesn't get to make his own decision. But did Marinette make the decision for him, or did she encourage him towards the decision he was always going to make? To me, the part where Adrien said he didn't know what he wanted was VERY in character. It read very much as him not wanting to offend anyone or cause another fight (like the one they literally JUST went through). But, really, was he ever going to make a different decision? He was choosing between Nathalie, who from the flashbacks and *gestures* the Rest Of The Series clearly cares about him, he knows her well, she loves him. Or a couple of strangers he just met that day. Adrien clearly, throughout the episode, expresses that he wants to stay in Paris, with Nathalie, and he is repeatedly ignored. To me, this moment is not Marinette making the decision for him - it's her standing up for him and saying to him that he can speak his mind. Remember, Adrien's spent his whole life under his father's thumb. He never could say what he wanted for fear of retaliation.

There IS a theme of other people making decisions for Adrien, obviously with the grandparents, but also with Nathalie herself. I will defend her until the ends of the Earth, but she did decide on her own that Adrien would be better off with biological family - granted, there's CLEARLY something influencing this feeling, plus the grandparents talking about how she's not family and has no right to look after Adrien, I wouldn't be surprised if there's some kind of backstory there - but once again, even though she thinks it's for the best, and the best thing for Adrien even if it hurts her (which it clearly does), she's still making a decision for Adrien. She's blinded by the fact that she's obviously at some point been told that she's not his family and never will be (the guilt from being Mayura and aiding and abetting his father is probably coming into play too) and so she makes a decision that ultimately, Adrien should have had a say in. And Marinette, like she did in the Special, puts her foot down and says, actually, you are his family, or the closest thing left, so listen to him when he says you are. I also found it very funny when Marinette literally tells Nathalie "you're an adult", and follows it up with basically "so do something about this". But you get my gist - ALL of the characters are making decisions for Adrien, and Marinette SEES this, and encourages Adrien to make the decision HE wants, and not the one that will please his grandparents.

I'd like to know your thoughts on that part of Climatiqueen where Adrien sends sad voice messages to Marinette and she says they're cute. Because she couldn't recognize he was sad, do you think it means she still doesn't know Adrien well enough?

I find this narrative of Marinette not knowing Adrien well enough interesting bc antis (not saying you're one but I assume this question comes from seeing takes from antis) can't decide on their argument. I mean, is Marinette an obsessed stalker or does she not know anything about him? 🤔

Personally, to answer your question, I don't think it shows her not knowing him, at least, not in the way you might be meaning in your question. A big point of growth for Marinette this season after the last two seasons is learning to step back and let go and not control everything. We saw that when she makes herself sit when Adrien leaves without her. We even saw it last season in Passion when she was giving him space and not memorizing his schedule in an attempt to have healthy boundaries. She's learning not to be so intense and to delegate as we see with her letting everyone keep their Miraculouses full time so she doesn't have to be present for every single mishap in Paris and can live her life.

So, in this particular scene you're talking about, we see Marinette is preoccupied gathering materials for their activities, so she didn't notice all of his texts, which is totally fine. It doesn't mean she's ignoring him on purpose, she was just busy in that moment, as is her right. We only see her actually listen to his final voice text where he says he's looking forward to seeing her, and that's what she says is cute and sweet. Plus, most of the other texts we saw him send were like heart emojis and such. We don't know what the other voice texts said. And tone is sometimes hard to convey via text anyway, so from her perspective her bf was sending her a lot of texts bc he's excited to spend time with her, and we know they were going to be trying a lot of activities together that day, so it isn't unusual that he would be looking forward to that. I'd say it would demonstrate a lack of knowing him if she was continuously oblivious, but we saw in the episode with Ivan's dad that she did notice when he retreated away from everyone. A huge arc for the two of them throughout s5 and now 6 so far is learning how to be a couple and learning how to be what the other person needs and learning how to support each other. It's different than being friends. Of course, they know things about each other, but they are getting to know each other on a deeper level and learning each other's weaknesses and flaws and insecurities. That all comes with being more intimate with someone (not in a sexual way per se but just forming a closer bond). They're still growing and figuring it out, and I'm glad that's an avenue the writers are exploring bc things aren't immediately perfect just because the guy and the girl got together. There is still more for them to learn and ways for them to grow individually and as a couple.

I'd also like to point out, that Adrien is freshly an orphan in that episode. Of course, he's sad. And Marinette probably knows this, after all, she literally watched his dad die and delivered the news about him. It's not, not on her mind. But there are times to acknowledge it, and times to just carry on and help that person have a sense of normalcy as much as possible. We see them oscillate between those in the episodes we have so far. She knows. And she is there for him as much as she can be. But that doesn't always look like her cooing and coddling him because he's sad and needs hugs. Sometimes it looks like her kissing him a bunch to make him laugh or participating in a bunch of activities to help him find something he enjoys or sitting her ass on a bench and giving him space. 🤷‍♀️ No one is always perfectly attuned to their partner's moods and feelings. That's an unrealistic expectation to have. All they can do is their best, and we have seen Marinette try. And that's what's important.

Just my opinion on the matter though. Hopefully that answers your question 😅

I think Felix not telling Adrien is odd, he'd want him to know the truth because not only would that be the sort of revelation that would free Adrien from his father's influence in a way, but not telling him goes against his beliefs from what we're shown

There would have to be some incentive to not reveal the truth to Adrien, something that would lead to an eventual confrontation between the two

After your post, I imagined a scene where Alya "pushes too much" Marinette, which causes latter to "break" and respond by shouting "Fine, I will tell everything", then shouting out (literally) every secret that she had to bear

I can definitely see it being a continuing source of conflict for the two of them because Alya knows she has a secret now, and Marinette knows (or "knows") how alya will react to that secret (negatively). So I can see Alya trying to push Marinette to open up to her (gently) and trying to be a good friend, but Marinette retreating a bit more inward because no, Alya you don't understand. But to Alya's credit, I do think that a lot of her negative reaction was because of how she found out. It was abrupt, and she didn't have time to think about it or see how difficult it was for Marinette. I think the implication in the end is that now that Alya is aware there's another secret, she will begin to see how that secret is eating Marinette alive and that it isn't a black or white matter, so that when she does finally learn the truth again, maybe she will have more empathy for Marinette in the situation. As I said, I still see Alya ultimately pushing her to tell Adrien, but I would hope in that instance it would come from a better place rather than just "i have a personal moral code and how dare you ask me to go against it."

I am also sat for Chat's new power because I feel like that's gonna come up at some point again. Chekhov's cataclysm if you will.
