my wife (my three unfinished wip's) misses me (hasn't been opened in two months) while i fight in the trenches (scroll through tumblr instead of doing schoolwork). might not make it out alive but i'm doing it for my country (to ignore my crumbling mental health) and that's all that really matters!

sorry to say this but y’all are going to have to accept that AI, including gen AI, is going to be integrated progressively into creative digital workflows. it’s not a maybe—it will. the knee-jerk fear reaction to any mention of AI is reactionary and juvenile. you either have to accept this or forever be pissed off at anyone who creates in a digital medium, becaue functions like photoshop’s generative fill or premiere’s enhance audio or algorithmic noise suppression will become and are actively becoming mundane aspects of digital workflows.
there are two important things to keep in mind: first, that companies like adobe are cashing in on the AI buzz and so will label as many minor functions of their apps “AI” as possible; second, everyone wants to use the best and most efficient tools available to them. together this means that as all kinds of AI advance, artists will use it. they will use it to recolor sections of paintings, or generative fill a section of the background after moving where a hand or head was that was blocking it, or balance and clean up audio in video editing. it’s fine if you don’t want to use it, but panicking about anyone who gets even slightly adjacent to AI tools will soon have you alienating the professional artists you claim to be defending.

the local hospital (which houses most of our outpatient medical specialists in the area as well) is a teaching hospital, so every july i get assigned to a new psychiatric resident to prescribe my medications and periodically assess me. every year i think about making a powerpoint presentation or a cute little zine with all their intake questions answered, including the ones they will forget to ask for four months. you know, key personal facts and a timeline of my medical and prescription history and some FAQs previous residents have found helpful. little sections for "meds i have failed and why" and "diagnoses since proven incorrect" so they don't have to waste time revisiting those. however i worry about what this might reveal about me to someone who really wants a career in studying what's wrong with people.

hmm sorry generative AI isn't another trademark use of progress it's qualitatively different the tradeoff isn't efficiency it's your independence

writing is like being a god, except your characters constantly fight you on your divine plans and your world-building collapses every other day.

I think there's a very clear difference in "wanting to work alongside ai" and "ai stealing the works of others without permission and never giving back"

not sure if this is a hot take but school is extremely traumatic and needs huge reform. it causes immense damage to everyone who goes through it. no large-scale school system is exempt from this. this happens in all countries, not just the ones where it's worst. this problem's also inextricably tied to capitalism and neither can be fixed without also fixing the other
school genuinely breaks people (and others) with even worse being done to those with intellectual disabilities and neurodivergents and those with other psychiatric disorders

I’ll probably elaborate on this later, but the short version for why I’ve swung fully back around to, “Nah, Tech’s just still alive in canon, actually,” is basically:
1. It straight up just isn’t written as a character death, not at any point from the moment it becomes obvious he’s going to fall onwards through the rest of the show. Not even like a badly handled one. The closest analog to how this is written in animated Star Wars is still Ahsoka’s “death” at the end of Rebels season two.
2. We technically have no more confirmation, proof, processing, or closure on what happened to Tech than we did at the end of season two, and we got some hints that he might have survived the fall. It remains ambiguous. And the thing is, closure—even short, badly done closure—would be easy to add in a couple of lines if he were supposed to be dead. (For example: If they really had to switch things up last minute, “Tech would have been so proud of you,” is a no-brainer line that Hunter could have said to Omega during the epilogue. It wouldn’t have been sufficient, but it would have informed us (and the target audience of children between the ages of 8 and 12) that Tech never did make it back during the time skip and probably is gone for good. What we get instead (the goggles on the dash) can easily be recontextualized as a signal that he came back alive, and actually makes a hell of a lot more sense if he did.)

We're in 2025 and you're telling me that we haven't made something that connects our thoughts to the page? Yeah it's dystopian and all that jazz but as a writer let me have it and then I'll write something about how it's dystopian.

see the interesting thing is that while 'Al art' continues to improve aesthetically it also continues to be made by and for people who don't actually *create* art, just *look* at it. and it's been so interesting to watch, because it's such a wild insight into what people who don't draw are seeing when they look at pictures, what they care about, what they don't notice.
some things (faces, eyes, lighting, hands) have been pretty much perfected, or at least reached a point where they don't 'look wrong' upon first glance, but i still have yet to be surprised to find out an image was Al-generated because there's such a clear lack of artistic process behind any of it. if you look at any part of the 'art' and ask yourself 'why and how would someone draw this like that' there's never an answer. there's nothing there.
