Painted in a classic but unmarked livery, Air Nantes' sole Caravelle parks on a remote stand on Zürich's long disused shortest runway 02/20 that was intended for days with North-Easterly winds. As the runway and specifically its hilly surroundings with scattered houses of the villages of Kloten and Rümlang was not suitable for jet aircraft, the runway was turned into a storage and long term parking in the late 1950s already.

Air Service Nantes used Fokker 27 and the Caravelle on freight services and group charters, trading from 1981 until the end of December 1992. As short-term ACMI contracts were also part of the business model, the carrier decided not to put any company logo or titles on its aircraft.

Westland SA.441C Gazelle HT.2/3 XZ939 was built under licence from Aerospatiale in 1978.

At first she was delivered to the Royal Navys 706 Naval Air Squadron but was converted into a HT.3 varient for use of the Royal Air Force Shawbury.

In 1991 the XZ939 was tranfered to the Empire Test Pilots' School where she was overhauled with flight test instrumentation and served with them till she was retired from service in december 2018.

Although painted here in full Air France markings, F-WTSA was actually the second prototype of the Aerospatiale/BAe Concorde. It originally wore Air France marks on the port side (lefthand side) and British Airways colors on the starbord side during roll-out in 1969 and early flight tests, and was later repainted into Aerospatiale colors for the rest of her flying program.

She never entered commercial service, but ended her flying career as early as 1976 when she was ferried from Toulouse to Paris-Orly. There, she was put on display, and is seen here preserved on the premises of Musée Delta located to the Southwest of the airport.

Case study: V-22 Osprey

V-22 Osprey is definitely one of the most iconic dropships; it's the first tiltrotor aircraft that has been widely used in military missions.

High wing, propeller-driven, with a body structure that looks like a length-extended helicopter. Actually, it's more like a heavily modified helicopter rather than an airplane. It makes sense because Bell(The company that built this) is the company that is known as their helicopter product,

It definitely inspired many sci-fi aircraft designs, like "Edge of Tomorrow", the drop ship, which has been shot down again & again, uses the same concept of tiltrotor, but instead of only one wing, it uses two, with the module cargo bay, which can change the module to operate different mission.

In the movie, the module used on the ship is for a soldier's drop. In this scene, we can see the floor open when the ship is getting closer to the dropping area.

Basically, it's a modified helicopter. It uses a pair of ducted fans with coaxial propellers to provide power. This reminds me that the helicopter type is always an option.

Yes, although using the same structure, replacing components and appearance with different generation technologies makes it a whole new design! The advantage of using the same structure as the current aircraft is: It looks reasonable, nobody will doubt whether it can fly or not, it's common to see someone comment on the SCI-FI aircraft can't actually fly. This makes the appearance looks cool enough but also avoid to being too cool.
