Okay, first of all I’m so sorry to anyone who followed me for anything other than Shoot from the Hip content; I swear I’ll put in more variety. Someday. (Also go check out Shoot from the Hip.) Second of all, I did not join Tumblr with the intention of making a bunch of lists, but they’re fun to write and people seem to enjoy them, so here goes.

10. Justin x the Beetroots MC (headcanon)

Listen, I do NOT condone the whole “if they’re bullying you, that means they like you” bullshit. That being said, years and years later, after both of them have grown as people, I think they could have a really sweet relationship, at least after they work through everything.

9. André Beetroot x Xavier (canon, somehow)

I kind of ship this in a joking way, but also kind of not? They make sense together in a really weird, fucked-up way, and I’m so here for it. (I cannot believe that they’ve canonically hooked up. Multiple times. I love AJ so much for giving us this.)

8. Andrew x Nigel (headcanon)

It’s so toxic. It’s so toxic, and I know that, and it would never be okay in real life, but some dark part of me is really fascinated by the possibilities. (I cannot emphasise enough how much I am intrigued by this in FICTION ONLY.)

7. Jack and Jackie (canon)

Complete turnaround from the last two, but these two are genuinely so sweet. I honestly don’t even have much to say about them, but I love them. So much.

6. François x Mimi (canon)

They are so toxic. They’re horrible people, and they only make each other worse. And I love it. (You know, making this list did make me worry about my mental health slightly. Just slightly.)

5. Toby x the meth wife (canon)

First of all, this is the gayest straight-presenting relationship I’ve ever seen, and I love it. (I totally headcanon them both as bi/pan/queer/etc., but that’s not the point of this post.) And honestly, they’re so supportive of each other. They’re, like, genuinely a healthy couple (in a SFTH play? Can you imagine?). They have so much love for each other, and I could talk about them all day, but I’m fairly sure no one needs that, so I’ll stop.

4. Andrews x Betruva (headcanon)

Listen, I might be a little biased because they’re new, but they kind of have everything I look for in a ship. They have millennia of history, which is always a good start. They’re ancient nemeses. They founded a church named after them both???? Honestly how much more gay can you get?

3. Esmerelda x the vampire slayer (canon)

I like to imagine that Esmeralda survived, and they fall in love, and they have to work through the trauma of the slayer (I think I saw the fanon name Samantha? But I’m not sure) trying to kill Esmeralda. There’s just so much angst potential, and oh, now I want to write a fanfic.

2. Bubba x Jeramiah (canon)

They’re a fucking classic, okay, and they’re a classic for a reason. They are the best gay cowboys, and I love them so much. I know I should have more to say, but I feel like it would just be incoherent screaming.

1. Derek x Titch (canon)

Listen, who else could it be? They are so fundamentally amazing. It’s a classic case of “he fell first, he fell harder” (even if we don’t get to see a lot of the “he fell harder” part, I believe it with all my heart). I love Titch working though his issues and learning to open up, and I love Derek being so helplessly in love with him. I love them so much, and they deserve the top spot.

Just rewatched the episode and omg the kitchen scene. Absolute cinema. Eddie just walking in calmly seeing the groceries seeing buck and then realising buck is pissed about something. It's so married coded. How many times have i seen arguments like this. Starting off small innocuous and then the actual problem comes out. The tension the acting... just chefs kiss. How both are hurting and just want the other to hug them. The lighting the cinematography. Hands down one of my favourite scenes in the show if not one my favorite buddie scene.

Only wish they hadn't had Ryan do the move forward and point at buck thing. Only because all I see are bad takes and ammunition for that Fandom that it's ruining my experience. I know I know I should ignore them but when it comes to Eddie i can't help it😅. Also made me wonder how the GA took this as. A scene between 'bros'? Or actually intimate moment? Do they even understand Eddie's characterization?

Anyway I'm gonna go and watch it again. Need to feed this into my veins.

I've combined these three asks, because they all touch upon a few topics I really wanted to talk about.

First of all, OH GOD YES! That scene was literal gold. It was soooo good! The acting was top notch, the direction and camera work were both amazing. Oliver was great as always and Ryan... well, that man has been showing us time and time again that he is one of the better actors on this show. They are all great, but that kitchen scene was on another level. I have rewatched it a billion times already! 😄

Both Buck and Eddie were at their most vulnerable in this scene. They wanted to show us that these two men KNOW each other through and through and even though they are hurting and grieving, they can still call each other out for their bullshit. It was like watching a married couple getting into a heated disagreement. Pure gold.

I'm also pretty sure the GA has caught on what is going on by now. 8x11 was very clear on the Buddie of it all. Then we had all those Facetime calls in 12 and 13. A lot of these people have been watching these kinds of procedurals for a very long time. 8x17 just made it more clear where this story is headed. They can see it coming.

Now for the discourse part of this reply:

I agree that it is VERY frustrating that some people have started using very loaded words, such as 'abuse' and 'assault', when it comes to Eddie's behaviour in the kitchen scene.

Especially because there is not an ounce of truth in any of their statements. In fact, most of these allegations are made because Eddie is clearly being set up as Buck's great big true love interest. And some fans do not agree with that, because they want Buck with someone else. So basically these 'abuse' or 'assault' claims are being made over a ship, which is frankly insane.

The way I look at it is that the majority of fans are extremely happy with the episode and especially this kitchen scene. But a small part of the 911 fandom have disliked and hated Eddie ever since BT happened. That hasn't changed. It never will, because Eddie is in the way of a plot device that used to be a racist and misogynistic bully. 🙄

And rereading that last sentence? Well, the fact that they keep stanning their own very problematic white man while openly hating on a half-Mexican man who had a short heated discussion with Buck? Tells me enough.

As for those few Buddie shippers/Buck stans who are also hating on Eddie? Pfff, again... nothing new, is it? Their precious Buckaroo needs to be protected at all times. Poor baby. 🙄

They refuse to let go of any of the arguments Buddie have ever had and where Eddie said something hurtful to Buck. I swear... the amount of times I still read about the whole 'You are exhausting' thing that Eddie once said SEASONS ago, is insane.

Why are people still stuck on that one line? Buck has long forgotten about that line, but some people still cling to it as some kind of misguided proof of abuse.

It's a dramatic TV-show! There will be drama between the characters! That's what makes these shows so interesting.

Buck is a grown man. He doesn't need coddling or babying. Having these kinds of confrontations and discussions will make him think and it will help his character evolve. There is no need to keep Buck into this 'oh poor baby' state of mind. Let him out!

Also, I don't think that any of these people yelling abuse know what they are talking about in the first place. Social media has really given a lot of people a skewed image of wat abuse really looks like.

Having a heated argument in the kitchen is NOT abuse. Using your finger to angrily point at someone is NOT abuse. Showing someone that you are also grieving and in pain? THAT IS NOT ABUSE!

It's frankly disturbing that people seem to have convinced themselves it is actual abuse, especially in a show that has shown us REAL abuse with the Maddie & Doug storyline.

If what happened in that kitchen between Eddie and Buck was abuse? My entire family, myself included, would be 'abusers'. I come from a passionate family and we have these kinds of arguments a lot. 😆 Half an hour later all is forgiven and forgotten again. 🤷‍♀️

Look, at the end of the day, there will always be unhappy people who will hate on Eddie for no reason whatsoever. It sucks, but it won't change.

I tend to ignore them and let them scream into the void. Block whenever I come across them.

Because you know what?

We all know the truth: Eddie is a wonderful man and Buck is lucky to have him in his life.

Vortex We Took Every Breath to Follow : Shiguang and Their Companionship Through Life and Beyond

Hi, *awkward giggling*

First, a few words from me :

Even though I love engaging in fandom spaces and enjoy ship fanarts, fanfictions etc, till today my heart truly belongs to a very few ships. Shiguang is one of them. As long as one is not blinded by homophobic delusions, I enjoy discussing any kind of interpretation of my OTPs, be it 'Platonic', just friends™, romantic or whatever. But I have a fixed category (which very ironically is not quite fixed if you read the whole discussion) that fulfills my idea of true love.

for me, Love is a dialogic discourse with your existential other.

The terms I used are very loaded terms; 'dialogue' and 'other' come from the Bakhtinian philosophy of ethics, 'discourse' is a Foucauldian term and existentialism has a long postmodern and post-structuralist philosophical tradition. The reason I LOVE Link Click is because of their postmodern lens and the narratives of the characters, not only the protagonists fundamentally question what is the real purpose of life? Why do human bondings matter? The answers reside in the simplest vignette of everyday life. Grief, trauma, hope, memory, reconciliation, remembrance, love, family - these are the central themes of Link Click. Lu Guang and Cheng Xiaoshi's separate existence and their interpersonal dialogue thematically and structurally complements the main ethos of Link Click.

When asked about the nature of Shiguang relationship Director Li Haoling answered : 是生死之交咯! (Shì shēngsǐ zhī jiāo gē! - It's a life and death relationship!)

Fate, mortality, death, remembrance are the building blocks of their relationship as we perceive it.

Now let me talk about something. When I first watched Link Click on September 17th, 2024, the first Intertexual connection I drew was with another text called Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett. Funnily enough, early in this year I wrote a crossover Hamlet adaptation (and won the second prize in a competition hehe) interweaving a few elements from Godot. Time loop, fragmentation of time and space, panopticon with no exit - all these elements featured in that. I recommend Waiting for Godot to you all, you'll understand why it resonates so much with Link Click.

Now,

Lu Guang is a person who is shown to be a character who has some mysterious powers to manipulate time and space. Even from the very beginning, he has this dominant (and sometimes seemingly monologic that feels problematic to new viewers) voice with which he guides Cheng Xiaoshi through the dives. He is apparently headstrong and has acquired all kinds of praises ™ like hypocrite, selfish (lol) and what not. Again quoting Li Haoling "Lu Guang is a complex and delicate character." But after the release of 'The Eye' and 'The Lull', I think we are pretty sure that Lu Guang has been trapped in a rewind, like a Sisyphus figure. A friend of mine told me the other day, "Superficially, Lu Guang is presented as an archetypal strategist, the one who guides, the one who keeps things in control, but in reality, he has no agency whatsoever." Lu Guang lacks the fundamental agency in life (we all do but we have to accept it one day or other) and that mortifying realisation comes to him with the death of Cheng Xiaoshi. What is unacceptable to him is the most obvious outcome of a mortal life : death. Lu Guang's tragic flaw stems from this unacceptability of Cheng Xiaoshi's death and him attempting to manipulate time, very Sisyphus of him. Till now, we are yet to see Lu Guang's character traits without any reference to Cheng Xiaoshi but this does not reduce his character depth. His denial is actually very delicious ( I almost wrote a paper on this, taking the popular sci-fi trope of time travel as an allegorical and symbolic means of resistance and subversion but anyway, it's not relevant here)

Lu Guang's character makes me fall in love with the song Flash by Gorilla Attack. It is from Lu Guang's character, no one can convince me otherwise.

Just a loop A bored 'n loop Should I do this now 'til the end? Into the story As just an extra You are the reason I live But you don't remember me? Oh, can I be with you?

And

And the line that keeps coming back as a haunting refrain :

Flash me, flash me Gotta get the power to rewrite I just wanna deny, I just wanna rewrite, yeah

Every time I listen to this song, these lines send a chill down my spine. But Lu Guang's obsession with 'rewrite' echoes with what my professor said to be Hamlet's constant meta-theatrical discomfort with the script, role, play he has been provided with. He does not comply with the playwright's words. Apart from time and death, I think Lu Guang's most wretched enemy is Li Haoling himself. That's why he constantly wants to 'rewrite', but all he has got till now is 'rewind'. Now whether his 'urge to rewrite' will turn into a successful 'write back' is the central play of the plot we are looking up to. What is my personal opinion on the ending?

The ending which is so dryly plausible in our real world is Lu Guang accepting his defeat and carries within him the remembrance of Cheng Xiaoshi.

But my question is, my brother in Buddhism Li Haoling, why the fuck would I watch your Link Click to know that death is the node that can't be changed? Is it not the given fact? It's a cultural text, however modern or postmodern a text might be, it ultimately uses the plot to defamiliarise and convey well known concepts and emotions with a critical engagement. A plot is just a vehicle, a crucial one, to help us have a greater and more nuanced vision of life. Due to non-linear narrative and active subversion of chronotope, complex plot will have plot twists and cliffhangers BUT it still has to perform a crucial, non negotiable role - the arc. If the beginning point and the ending point have the same temperaments, what kind of significance will it even achieve?

If Lu Guang can't write back at the end of Link Click, the structure of the plot will be like this :

1. Exposition, rising action : Cheng Xiaoshi died at the very beginning, Lu Guang is fucked.

2. Climactic stage : shit and shit and complex quantum physics, hallelujah hot villains, 'I am a great writer I can kill any character TeeeHeeeeHeeee', backstories, parallel narratives, foil characters have no relevance and rendered completely meaningless,

3. Falling action and resolution : Cheng Xiaoshi is still dead to the very ending, Lu Guang is still fucked.

No catharsis, not a milimeter of displacement from the beginning point.

What is the fucking point?! From the perspective of a writer and a critical reader, I can say it will be a sheer waste of money, time and potential. I would rather watch... whatever.

The friend I mentioned before told me, " You know why Emma or Chen Bin die? They had to die. Emma had a loving family, she got the job she wanted, she had her hardships but she didn't begin with tragedy. And when tragedy came, she was so not ready to negotiate the problem and considered self-annihilation as her first choice. She actively erased the possibility of dialogue with herself. If Emma were an orphan, struggling with unemployment and other hardships from the very beginning, I don't think Emma would die that easily. Emma was denied the conflict of life which very ironically tests human agency itself."

And for Chen Bin...during my first watch, the moment I saw him my instincts told me he was going to die. He had a loving wife, a daughter, he loved her, she accepted the proposal and they married soon. Conflict where? To bring his story to a full circle, he had to die.

I can say every parallel story in Link Click can be judged from this lens. People who had a point of conflict (the noodle lesbians, the couple who lost their child, Xu Shanshan, that old man) engaged in dialogue with themselves, others and social forces ultimately got a happy ending. Even in the earthquake episode, it's a story of reconciliation with the past, the man got his mother's photos and it's plausible and satisfying (and bittersweet resolution). He got his (absent) father back.

Another thing, we as a fandom have a collective amnesia about....*drumrolls* Cheng Xiaoshi's character! Congratulations! The man, the freaking protagonist just dies at the beginning, accepts his death, and remains dead. Doomed yaoi allegations are just nonsense. Link Click is doomed if Shiguang doesn't get a happy ending. Link Click is NOT a dramatic monologue told from Lu Guang's perspective, engaging with his perpetual trance of melancholy and him holding onto Cheng Xiaoshi's memento mori.

If Lu Guang is attempting to write back to Li Haoling and the doomed yaoi allegations, Cheng is attempting to write back to Lu Guang himself, not in confirming his own death, but saving Lu Guang from the loop of eternity and by being together. Cheng Xiaoshi is always seen to be guided by Lu Guang, he has to witness repercussions of his actions. Even with all this knowledge I will say, Cheng Xiaoshi has way more agency than Lu Guang has. During my first watch, I could feel Lu Guang has this barrier of guilt and unsettled emotions wrapped around him which denies Cheng Xiaoshi access into the deepest core of his subjectivity. Even though he achingly wishes to be together with Cheng Xiaoshi, the burden of his past actions and PTSD holds him back from being together with him, as if his existence is antithetical to Cheng Xiaoshi's existence. Cheng Xiaoshi is that glitch in the matrix that messes up Lu Guang's plans of withdrawing himself from Cheng Xiaoshi. Cheng Xiaoshi should not listen to everything Lu Guang orders. In season 1, he mostly conforms to Lu Guang's ideals, but in season 2, when Lu Guang was hospitalised, Cheng Xiaoshi became more active and you could tell a layer of barrier melted away. He was less of a stone statue, showed more emotions (the S2ep1 lmao when he said "would you prefer if I die?" abhimaan we call it), then the unique high five that feels like Lu Guang accepting Cheng Xiaoshi's proposal or something :

My point is, Cheng Xiaoshi is Lu Guang's existential other and vice versa. They cannot live without each other. They cannot exist without each other. If one dies, the other will die and I want them living happily ever after in heaven. Cause 'Break' clearly depicts them as soulmates. I personally take Break as the ultimate canonical ending

Do you see? each of them has one wing missing, meaning that it's their cumulative effort that will make them fly successfully. FYI, there is another Haoling directed, Haoliners Animation League animated canonical queer donghua called 'Beryl and Sapphire'. A separate episode, episode 13 just explores this 'one wing soulmate trope'.

Now take them as friends, platonic friends with no erotic feelings, pure familial feelings or whatever, they are like Yin and Yang, like Shiv and Shakti, and Yin changes to Yang and Yang changes to Yin actively as they interact. You will have a hard time pointing out who is who. I have watched TGCF and Beryl and Sapphire and a tiny bit of Spiritpact - all three directed by Li Haoling and I am well aware of his narrative strategy to represent soulmates and Link Click seems to be the one of the greatest (and my favourite) product of that genius mind.

I began with team Lu Guang cause he is a scorpio, I understand him, his birthday almost coincides with mine, we share some identical issues. But the fandom's often yeeting Cheng Xiaoshi out of the narrative phenomenon brought back my due attention to him. Is Cheng Xiaoshi so willing to be doomed? Does he not yearn to be with Lu Guang? Let me whisper to your ear...he yearns for him too.

does understand that the person who dies...dies, death affects them the least who dies, it's the people, the family and loved ones who actually suffer. This man will leave his Lu Guang on his own volition? eh.

Also I wanna talk about Link Click's strategy of deliberate misdirection. The first and second seasons are so deliberately crafted (manipulation of narrative you can say) to actively erase Lu Guang's subjectivity and nuance. We are just denied access his perspective. He is mysterious but not that aligns itself with a viewer's emotions. In fact, during my recent re-watch, I felt "wtf Lu Guang, why are you interacting with Cheng Xiaoshi like a straight dudebro?" He is a menace, the kind I usually don't like. But there also seemed to be a critical undercurrent which I couldn't really grasp, but it was surely there. It was adding up to my increasing discomfort and made me question - "was it just my wishful projection? they do not share that bond at all." I was so pissed at that thought that I almost decided I am not gonna abandon Link Click. BUT BRO, BRO

'The Eye' and 'Lull' just blew my mind. I was not that affected by Cheng Xiaoshi's corpse advertisement agenda (that corpse is drawing people's attention who is suddenly aware of Yingdu release, great tactic, Haoling) what pleasantly brought me out of despair is Lu Guang's love for Cheng Xiaoshi was acknowledged in these songs. You will read between the lines on your own in season 1 and season 2 if you have that critical method to engage with a cultural text, but the silencing narrative was also very prominent. I very much felt that the Shiguang story is actually the central action, and not the creative sci-fi archtexual exercise of genres, which again, is just the vehicle. But The Eye and Lull focus upon them, them and them. Their emotions are acknowledged, they are no longer behind the veils of symbolism, parallel narratives, intense defamiliarisation; their emotional dialogue now not only demands a voice of their own but also has the potential to reclaim the central part of the stage as they struggle and negotiate power and agency. And I am here for it.

Redcrackle ship analysis pt.1

As you can guess, i ship Redcrackle, and often, many people told me that I shouldn’t ship them for some reason.

Here I’m going to explain why it is totally ok to ship them (and why it is my favourite copule in the show).

What people told me about them is that they see each other as siblings, their age gap is too much, and that they never actually flirted with each other.

Like i did for carulia I’m gonna show y’all what i think of each of those topics.

They see each other as siblings

I think that it was oblivious that they SAW each other as siblings when they were still both at VILE, not anymore. You can clearly see this simply by the way they look at each other

While they were still at VILE, they looked at each other very differently

That is a brotherly look, while they were younger, but then you can clearly see that their dynamic changed, because they grew up, they changed and their feelings for each other changed too, it’s normal that way, and it’s always been that way. Their trope is really complicated, but their feelings for each other went like from best friends to lovers, and it’s not “problematic” as someone says, instead they have chemistry, they bonded as friends and they proceeded seeing each other as the sibling figure they never had since they were both orphans, and they ended up developing some romantics feeling once they both matured and aged.

Plus I realised reading some fics and just scrolling on the internet, that prolly Carmen only saw Gray as a big brother figure because she only had the “family” kind of love in her life since that moment. Maybe she had stronger feelings for him that she couldn’t classify because the only love she ever felt was for the faculty, which was more like a family to her, no romantic feelings involved. Then Graham came and she saw him as a big brother, as her found family, because it was the only love she was surrounded with for her whole life, and that then, she realised that she had some romantics feelings for him, once she grew up and experienced more in her life.

Their age gap is too much

Ok, in this fandom, there are people from all over the world, so everybody has a different opinion on this (for example, where i live, there are such bigger age gaps)

But you have to consider that they are only 2 years apart (Carmen is 20 and Gray is 22), and they’re both adults and consenting, so I can’t really see any problems with that.

They never actually flirted with each other

Apart from the fact that they, in fact, have flirted but people say that they didn’t because one of them was brainwashed during it, as we saw they showed their love for each other multiple times, in multiple scenes, in many different way (flirting is not the only way to show love).

Bro risked his life to SAVE HER (I can’t put every time he did it because of the image limit)

Bro was willing to be locked up in JAIL just to make sure that his gf got his memories back

Bro was willing to never see her again just to give her the opportunity to start a new life.

Not mentioning the fact that when he was brainwashed, he went all way to New Zealand to help someone he barely knew, just to have a cup of coffee with her.

And I strongly believe that he hesitated on purpose on that train to Paris, he didn’t wanted to kill her, he knew damn well how to defend himself from someone holding a weapon on him (as we see in the scene with Devineaux when he got his memories back and he beats his ass) + he also knew very well that she couldn’t use the weapon because of the fingerprints activation, he had no reasons to hesitate like that, except one, the boy was so in love.

Also all the things that carmen did for him, every time she said goodbye to him for his own well-being (at the coffee, on the Himalayas), every time she saved him (at Dr.Bellum’s place, on the Himalayas).

Plus, they are literally red and blue lovers.

LOOK! She is the literal definition of red. He is the literal definition of blue. If that is not a sign, guys, idk what it is.

Other than that, think about when they opened to each other about their pasts, when he told her that he didn’t wanted to hurt her even though they were enemies and basically any interaction they have, and like I said before, their eyes can talk 100%, it’s so clear. They are so cute. I love them. No one can change my mind.

They just have so much chemistry, parallels, and everything.

Concluding I wanna drop a bomb.

I honestly believe that if Gray was a girl, everyone would love him and the ship. They as a copule would be seen better from everybody on this fandom.

A - Ships that you currently like a lot.

Obviously we have Shaunahat right up there at the moment - those two have me in the insanest chokehold known to mankind.

Before that though, I got smacked right in the face with the fact I was sleeping on Renora from RWBY after relistening to the entire soundtrack again when it returned to Spotify. Nora who has always confidently displayed her love growing to hate herself and Ren realises far to late that he loves her for everything she is, is just peak angst potential and I can't believe it took me four-five years after V8 aired to realise it.

C - A ship you have never liked and probably never will.

I'm pretty new to Yellowjackets so there isn't any relationship dynamic that is a hard no for me. All have potential to me and have an interesting element that's worth exploring.

Off the top of my head, I think one of the few ships I just never could bring myself to like is Keith and Lance from Voltron. Don't get me wrong, I consume the fanart bc some really great artists I adore made art for them. But to me they were always this really good rivalry to mutual respect to friendship dynamic and I never saw it as more then that, particularly when Lance had a canon romance with Allura and Shiro & Keith had a far more interesting history and dynamic imo. Final nail for me tho was the yelling of queerbating by some fans after the show ended. Obnoxious fans will put me off any ship, especially when they yell queerbating about a show with a canon queer character, because it's not the character or ship they specially wanted.

G - Have you ever had an OTP? If so, do you remember your first one? Who was in it?

This answer makes me cringe in shame, but also, these two are my roman empire. It's just hard to explain to people who've not played the entirety of the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy why Hope and Lightning aren't actually super problematic.

Bare with me bc this involves a lot of time travel nonsense.

Game One - Lightning is 21, Hope is 14. Whole mentor and student thing going on, helping one another heal from trauma and breaking out of their shells.

Game Two - Lightning is still 21 because she's trapped in the death realm protecting the goddess of death. Time doesn't exist there. Hope is 27 and is trying to save all of humanity in an attempt to save his friend and, by extension, Lightning.

Game Three - Lightning is still 21, was frozen in crystal for 500 years. Hope is 527 after the death realm and the real world merge, and was tortured for several decades / maybe a century or two by a God who specially makes him hallucinates Lightning to get him to break mentally and physically regress to his teen body in order to become a vessel for said God. In the end, after Lightning saves everyone's soul, Hope saves hers, and they are reborn into the new world, and the creator's confirm Hope gets his adult body back.

CAN YOU SEE WHY THIS GETS DIFFICULT TO EXPLAIN TO PEOPLE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE FRANCHISE! Most these two's interactions happen when Hope is or looks 14. Unlike my teen self who didn't know better, I only ship Game 2 & 3 Hoperai nowadays. But what is even more funny is these two are treated like the offical couple for this entry in the Final Fantasy franchise (there is always one) by JP fans WHEN THERE IS ALREADY AN ACTUAL CANON ONE. That's the power of these two lmao.

T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending? 

I'll stick to Yellowjackets for this one.

I fully believe that Shauna is suffering from Dissociation - specifically Depersonalization - even before she crashed out in the Wilderness and before she developed postpartum psychosis.

I headcanon she has a warped sense of self, very disconnected from her identity and emotions. Lives in a haze if you will. Her love and obsession with Jackie, her trying to become Jackie, and have what Jackie had was her way of masking her Depersonalization. Unable to connect with any identity of her own, Shauna took Jackie's and plastered it over herself to try and feel complete.

The postpartum psychosis and the rage it brings help Shauna break through the dissociation for a while, but when she returns to society, it takes over again, and that's how she ends up with Jeff.

Is it a little bit of projection bc I have a dissociative disorder? Maybe. But you cannot tell me Shauna wasn't suffering from some kind of complex metal health issue even before the crash, it's ingrained in her even before all the horrible trauma she goes through in the show.

V - Which character do you relate to most?

Kinda ties into the last question nicely - but Shauna.

She's someone who has never had no real identity, has suffered so much trauma, and finds herself falling into societal norms in an attempt to keep herself safe and wanted by people. Now, the trauma I've gone through is nothing compared to what's she's gone through, but I relate a lot to this idea of having this internal darkness you have to keep buried for the sake of those around you or for what is 'best'. It took me a long time to accept my Alters, and to accept their purpose in existing, but I have received a lot of pushback for their existance - especially from family - being told I need to manage my episodes better when they only happen when I'm pushed beyond my limit. A little too much TMI maybe, but just sorta offering insight into why I truly resonate with Shauna's character and can never villainse her the way others do.

Regarding a certain someone and their actions on social media, do you think idols need to be held accountable for what they repost/follow/like on social media? I think that for someone who often talks about how he stalks armytwt and sends ai and fanart to the other members etc, even trying to pretend to be a fan and start hate against himself shows that this person knows what they're doing, they know what goes on in the random and how his fans are particularly awful to his supposed soulmate. And yet all he does is feed into their delusions while twisting reality. Also the fact that he turns on lives at his members house without permission, shows the shaved head when the member was obviously hiding it, etc does he not realise how it makes him look when the behaviour is so consistent?

I think it depends on the situation and there should be limits. I don't agree nor like when fans are religiously keeping an eye on what kpop idols do on social media and pass judgement either without having the full picture or creating entire narratives from scratch.

But in this particular context, I find it impossible for the idol not to know how the ship he's part of is currently perceived. They all do, they are aware, there's no point in going over that again. Despite me believing that the first thing one does online is promote the brand and himself as being in poor taste, I don't think it is an actual problem. I don't think that it is actually that imperative to check the account, although when you have a social media following of 50 million, you also do have a responsibility. All public figures are media trained and they know what they're doing. They know that such an act can be then interpreted as promoting/endorsing or simply exposing. In this case it was enough for a shipper account to gain traction. I want to stress that it being a shipper account is not the issue, the issue is that it's an account that has embraced harmful fandom narratives that have been perpetuated for years and now it gets even more exposure if an actual subject of the ship is interacting with it. I think this is where some sort of responsibility is necessary. Talking about this under the illusion that it's only a ship/duo name is naive, when we are all aware what that group actually represents and advocates.

I also find it interesting how stans make sure to keep everyone in check, from big to small accounts, as to who they follow and interact. Not only that, it is so important that they tag and urge people to unfollow who they consider problematic. But all of a sudden, an idol is absolved of all that, he doesn't need to check beforehand, he has no responsibility, he doesn't know. Just as he didn't know how to use IG in 2021 as justification for accidently following his girlfriend.

Anon, he fits the role of an Ace Attorney Prosecutor PERFECTLY, and he would be SUCH AN ANNOYING BITCH TO PLAY AGAISNT LOL We love Ace Attorney very much, so we also joke about Riddle being a prosecutor from time to time. I have at least one sketch related to this topic but we posted it on ko-fi.

Our go-to is usually to give Ace the Attorney role, not only because of his name, but also because him being confrontational with Riddle is always a fun thing to imagine.

They’re intriguing! It’s always interesting when someone who isn’t Malleus gets Sebek’s kind-of-sort-of-approval (a very important achievement I know), and Jamil somehow managed to do it. Maybe it’s because he managed to sit through Sebek’s hours-long rant about Malleus’ grateness in that one vignette, but it honestly shows just how interestingly their personalities play based off each other. Jamil is constantly done with everyone’s bs, but he’s unfrotunately tolerant enough to take a passive role and listen. But he is also enough of a tease to enjoy Sebek’s “cute” and silly moments, like when he watched him almost fight a goat during the Glorious Masquerade event. So I feel like to him Sebek would be a massive pain in the ass (and let’s be honest, with Jamil – who isn’t?), but also have his surprisingly endearing moments.

But this is based on their interactions in the Glorious Masquerade event + that one vignette in which Jamil promised to listen to Sebek’s odes for Malleus lol

1. what made you ship it

The show itself: Gin recognising one single hair of her. The way he thinks of her naked. The way he praises her beauty on that rooftop. He gets all poet when he talks about her, like wtf. The german VA also sounds surprisingly soft when talking about her...

Like to me, this whole episode/scene felt like they absolutely had something going on at some point. And I guess that was also the plan originally? I couldn't find it while making this post, but there was this graphic with relationships pointed out and the line between these two was marked as "Love affair?" or something like that.

And when I went on a rewatch in 2019, and my gf saw this scene, she immediately turned to me asking "did they have a thing??", so... yeah.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

So, ngl, The potential for Drama™ 🤷‍♀️ The thought that they may have had something going on, maybe even something genuine, and then he killed her sister and destroyed that trust, out of ... fear (? not the right word, but I can't think of a better one right now?) of losing her (because Akemi wanted to buy their freedom) and therefore actively pushing her away from him. There is so much that can be said about a relationship like that.

I guess I also kinda like the thought that Sherry hasn't always been afraid of him. Like, sure, she had respect, but she was the head of the laboratory, so she was the boss there, so to say. I once wrote a short fic about Sherry making big bad Gin wear a lab coat. Because her place, her rules. We know how snappy Shiho is sometimes, sarcastic, etc. I would've liked to see that side of her/them, before she realised that he wouldn't shy away from killing her, despite everything they had.

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

eh. There are enough unpopular opinions about the ship, so... nothing I'd say would be really unpopular, I guess xD

I think I would prefer it if Sherry was a bit older? Like. idk. When I first watched the show I didn't know for the longest time that she was supposed to be 18. She always seemed more mature than that, so I thought she was in her mid-twenties ^^'

(Then again, Aoyama literally said Gin's age is whatever we want it to be, lol)

So. Yeah. Definitely one of my more unhealthy ships, but well. It's an interesting dynamic either way.

Fully explained below but tl;dr - it’s either until the travis team (i legit forgot the name i know the colour is red or smthhhh) keeps winning the Super Bowl/maintains a relatively good reputation OR until Taylor gets bored of him and looks for another shiny toy to make a complete fool of herself over (so like by this time next year) OR they get married and ride off into the sunset towards some happily ever after.

Howeverrr just for funsies: the way I see it is by working backwards, starting with if I see them getting married, and honestly…based on ttpd, leaning towards yes. When they will get married I have no inkling and I don’t even feel like speculating cuz of all those gross pregnancy/marriage rumours going around 🤢 I think they’ll get married cuz:

their careers are such that they’re both lifting the other up when they show up for games/concerts, there is no conflict of interest (ie no competition) cuz of the vastly different fields they’re in. Also, he was more established than joe at the start of their r/ship which makes for a very rosy picturesque love story image which at least some part of Taylor desires (based on her interviews, the fearless/speak now eras) but she’s also become quite jaded (as per ttpd) so maybe she thinks this is the closest she’s going to get to it

i also think she’s in no rush to leave a r/ship this comfortable after her last 2 emotionally complex ones. Not saying this is good or bad of her; I do understand why she would want to take it easy now (and possibly forever) but given how little they seem to have in common, I don’t think she can find this r/ship as emotionally fulfilling as she would want with a life partner, so I don’t see them sticking it out forever. I'm pretty much active in Twitter/X mainly because of the 1 Day 1 Hol Horse thing, but when I ventured deeper into the JoJo fandom, I realised the anti-proship discourse is just a huge WHY for me.

Like, why does this mess have to exist?

Why does one have the need to not interact with other fans in the same fandom, especially if they also share a similar preference?

Why can't everyone just like what they like, and leave what they don't, without harming actual fans, like sending death threats, trolling, doxxing, rallying hate etc?

To clarify, I've only known about this new definition of anti-proship about this year, when I got active again in the JoJo fandom. And it came to me in the form of being forced into a voting poll without my knowledge, and the fans that voted for or against my account labelled me a proshipper based on "problematic" fanarts from my Japanese friends and moots that I liked and shared.

It was the very first time I learnt what the bastardised definition of a proshipper is to these group of people.

Because during my anime/manga era, some good 20 years ago, proshipping basically means shipping whatever one likes and accepting that others may ship things one dislikes. We had terms like OTPs and NOTPs and BroTPs, and we use them freely to express love and acceptance, while also acknowledge what we prefer and what we don't.

Yes, there will occasionally be fans who will throw a tantrum about what others ship. They were the ones we call antishippers - the most intolerant of fans. They started ship wars, they send death threats, they doxx. They are the unhinged that most likely would kick a baby if given the opportunity.

Proshipper is actually a very positive word, and we love proshippers, because they're very tolerant, they work as middle men in ship wars, and by all things divine, most of them have really great artistic skills. Antishipper, nope, we don't want to be that. We hate that. We despise that.

But somehow the new generation seemed to shift the blame of all things bad on proshippers by changing the definition of it.

Depending on who you ask, proship could be a short to "proactive shipping", "professional shipping" or just "pro shipping" (as in pros and cons). All positive words. Now the new generation who most likely was never thought of how to explore fandoms at a young age, deemed proship as "problematic shipping".

The audacity to simply change the definition is palpable. Especially when I find out the kind of "problematic" things that they try to justify hating on.

Kids. Teens. Young adults. My dears.

Whatever "problematic" things you've seen in a fandom /ship /character now IS NOT NEW. It's not something that just happened to exist in a recent fandom to spite the younger gens. It has been there 20 years ago when I was underaged and older fans were making fanart of their favourites both "problematic" and not. Heck, probably way longer before for them as well.

If only you utilise some reading skills and maybe your library card, you can find the history of anime-manga was filled to the brim with "problematic" topics. It's a way of expression, it's a way of coping, it's a way of criticising certain factors like politics and people. Anime and manga has always been "problematic". That's a hard fact.

Virtue signaling especially if you're from the West is not gonna change that.

Also, I cannot stress it enough that fiction does not equate to reality. At best, it is an imitation of reality, in a form safe for consumption and indulgence that require no harm to real living beings. Once people can differentiate these, trust me, life will be so much easier.

While the definition of proship had seen a pretty twisted change, antiship didn't. They still did the same things, only now, the minors were dragged in.

Despite all, I won't deny there are absolute rotten eggs on both sides. There will definitely be proshippers who are so disturbing it scares even Junji Ito. There will also be antishippers who will do anything to spread more hate in the fandom, making it rather unlivable. And both sides have the capability to influence an attack on each other, or worse, take advantage of gullible, ill-informed fans, especially minors.

But if we stop lumping everyone into "proship dni" and "antis dni" lists, and openly, properly communicate and explore about likes and dislikes and preferences like old times, I'm sure complaints from antis like

"Why is this fanartist who draws / fan who like [insert ship] has to be a proship?"

"I like this fanartist's artwork but they are a proship, so now I can't see their stuff."

"There's not enough fanart of [insert ship/character]."

would be way, way less.

And I always wonder if these antis, who were mostly young teenagers of a sound mind, have a pending curiosity to explore something adult through fictional characters. Hence why, while they despise proshippers and anything not sfw, they still talk about it among themselves and draw lemony drawings, even to a detail I personally wouldn't share so openly. And why they still invade not sfw spaces even with a clear warning.

Because, I get that, I've been there, most likely as early as 12. Exploring sexuality is not wrong at that age, and it's already a correct method to use fiction for it.

But by pushing away people who had been there, who can actually help, is gonna continue making these antis be a hateful, intolerant bunch. And more easily influenced by actual real life predators.

And for the "proshippers", it's also pretty frustrating to see themselves being harrassed, blocked, and talked about behind their back from antis who never thought of maybe, just maybe, getting to know them first. Especially if they are not from the West.

So my advice to these antis and especially the antis who practically had no reason to be an anti, don't confine yourself into a small container and scream why it's too small. Fiction is there for you to explore reality and things that you can and will never do in real life. Exploring it is way better than suppressing yourself, as long as you know your own limits. Preference and discomfort are only evident if you communicate in a proper manner, not by bashing someone without them knowing and shift the blame of the discomfort you caused yourself on them when they had no intention to even present it to you.

We're in the same fandom. Sharing the same love for the same character and ships. I don't see why we should cut it down so meticulously just because one cannot separate fiction to reality.

As a pretty much seasoned anime-manga fan, especially in JoJo (I've been with the fandom since 2001, tbh), keep your mind open. Block and mute are always your friend if things get too overwhelming, but hatred shouldn't be the main motivator. Communication is key. If you want to know more, express your discomfort, discuss on characters / ships / fandoms...always communicate first. Never assume, never stab on the back. You might be surprised how helpful proshippers can be if you're just, for once, be nice.

heyo!!

my name's blaise (he/him), i'm 22, and i am, regrettably, a writer. i am also, regrettably, going to make that everyone else's problem.

some fun little background: i've been writing seriously since i was in high school and have had my work published before! i was an english major in college to become a creative writer for a career before realising that i was absolutely going to kill my love for writing if i did that. so, i switched majors, dropped out, blah, blah, blah... now i'm an english major again. The heck kind of leaks did I wake up to 😭 Catch me at 3am going nope nope do not- as I read about quirks evolving, also whats up with the world going to hell and Compress and Geten having a casual chat in prison saying they have plenty of time?? Geez, comedic duo I did not see coming. But bless: no phoenix quirk. But also: I dislike the dunking on Touya's narrative that makes him the masterpiece Endy always wanted. I pray fandom doesn't clown Endy for that because it would just be annoying. That's not the reason I wanted Touya's worth and life to be respected. And then the GETEN HIMURA, dammit. I was hoping the obvious fire/ice quirk wouldn't always lead to a family connection but here we are. These Todoroki's and their issues smh. I hope the memes and jokes about Japan being talked about as "entirely other" like one would consider the worldbuilding of a fantasy manga when considering culture isn't too bad out there. It's a real place, with real people living even in your country, and so many concepts are actually spread all over every asian country not just that. Hell, I've had hispanic friends tell me so as well. I say this because apparently some people are treating the concept of Touya being "first-born" and the weight it holds as "yeah just a thing Japan does" I get in this interconnected global world we like peering into other countries and cultures we don't understand and shrug it off like a strange other society far-removed from us, but I don't think people in the west realize how universal this is + the cousin marriage thing regardless of how squicky it is. I understand, but maybe tone down blowing up at other asians and shaming the entire concept in front of their faces? Some of those people might have their parents wanting them to get engaged to their cousin, or might know friends and family who are, and that kind of behavior when Geten is a DISTANT cousin, not even 2nd or 3rd or 4th with different lineages beyond the main family line is, kinda insane. You're absolutely free to find it problematic or even disturbing, I as an asian had that concern as well, just PSA to not over-react in a way that makes people familiar with those cultural practices feel bad. (also again....distant, Geten is so freaking distant. It's so trivial, if you find that disturbing, think of how someone marrying their 3rd or 4th cousin might feel? thinking "that" was far-removed enough that they would be okay with it and here's the internet flipping tables over Geten whose even further removed from the main family.)

Honestly, I can't say that I'm all that surprised that Hori took the route he did now that it's been awhile and the knowledge of the chapter has sunken in.

I still think giving Dabi an ice quirk undermines his story and I don't really know what the point of it was other than to shame Endeavor (while also spreading the message that only if he had abused his son more he would have realised he was "perfect" which is very icky even though it was unintentional).

As you said, Touya being the "perfect" son shouldn't have been why his life was respected by his father.

As for Geten being a Himura... Oof to all the people who shipped him with Dabi firstly (not that they still can't but fandom can be quick to attack other ships with problematic elements like these).

Personally I'm not really sure why Hori made that so because it does little to offer commentary on the story anymore, especially as he's done a terrible time at effective worldbuilding.

But I do agree that fandom needs to be careful when approaching topics like this. It's very easy to look at the story through a western lense and be rude to other cultures because of that. Yes, there is real reasons why incest is frowned upon such as the biological issues it has however you can discuss it in a way that's respectful and not insulting (sadly a nuance that fandom has not mastered).

God, what is it with Hori putting complicated themes in his story but not handling them satisfyingly.

What's this novel about then? 

So I've written a novel called "Mutual" (working title) that I'm probably going to self-publish, bc no self-respecting publisher is going to buy it, and I want to talk about it. (It's going to be between three and four books. I'm finished with book one so far) 

Have you ever shipped the hero with the villain and got annoyed, bc people were calling it 'unethical' or 'problematic' or whatever? 

Did you ever get pissed because the hero just ended up killing the villain, when in reality they should have smooched each other? 

Look no further then! 

Here, the poor little prince who gets abducted by the evil sorcerer at the beginning of the story does end up with that evil sorcerer! (and if you think it's the villain who holds the power in their relationship, think again) 

In between a couple of things have to happen, of course. Maybe the prince realises that his role in the whole story is not as innocent and weak as he made himself believe. Maybe the villain has a tragic backstory that does sort of explain how he ended up here. And maybe there is an even more powerful, more evil foe that needs some serious joining of forces to be vanquished. 

Maybe there is even a little isekai trip in there and well, during an isekai trip, all bets are off, anyway. 

The novel is also about colonialism (and why it's bad), feudalism (and why it's bad), and going on trips to learn things about yourself (and why that can be healing).
