Trains, Travel, Lacrosse, and Love in Japan
Laidback Log: April 13, 2025 Two things you can control in life are attitude and effort. I forgot that. It’s easy to forget about a lot of things in life until something reminds you about it. 0600 A Step Away From Existence I woke up with the guilt of feeling like I had wasted the night before. The feeling of not walking toward or building any skills that might lead to a better life ate away…

open discussion: do you think gale lets himself go fully grey or does he see one silver hair too many and immediately start looking for the fountain of youth

(๑•ᴗ•๑) if your Dragon Age elf OCs were elves that had manifested from being spirits rather than elves that had been born, what kind of spirit would they each have been?

In my heart, when Solas and Elgar'nan are having their spill the tea bitch sesh during the Blood of Arlathan quest, and Solas tells him that Mythal only joined him to keep him at bay- Elgar'nan gives the best villian laugh in the series and says with so much false pity in his voice "Is that what she told you?"

The crossovers between Gale and the mages of Dragon Age continue. After Morrigan and Anders, today it's the turn of Solas, one of my favourite characters of the series. I wanted to play on the divine aspect of both, and the costumes they wear when they manifest as such <3

genuinely curious how the writers and larger dragon age audience would treat thom rainier if instead of being appropriately* repentant and putting himself in prison he blew up a major orlesian government building to instigate a chevalier rebellion or tried to have someone do some necromantic blood magic ritual involving uncertain danger and possible sacrifices to bring the innocent children he ordered killed back to life
#*appropriately as in showing the expected amount of remorse in the appropriate way in a society founded on guilt and shame#i think blackwall actually tells us a lot about how dragon age's writers conceptualize justice and deservedness of punishment#im glad we get the option to forgive him but why do we get the option when anders is exiled at best?#and later characterized as a villain by dai#when solas is willfully imprisoned at best and trapped in a horrifying psychological torture chamber at worst?#blackwall gets a full redemption happy ending if inky so chooses#and im not saying he shouldnt#i forgive him every time#but its so interesting to me that narratively speaking#he seems to earn his happy ending through submission to punishment via imprisonment#as does solas but blackwall is portrayed far more sympathetically overall#there isnt the same meta-level narrative slander and clear agenda on behalf of the writing to make you feel a certain way about his crimes#as there is with anders and solas#why? whats the difference? what did he do to buy himself that narrative goodwill?#put himself in prison? why do the writers love carceral punishment so much lmfaooo#mine#if you wanna screenshot these tags and add them to the reblog feel free#im realizing i prob just shouldve put all of this in the post but its too late now#i think theres actually a strong argument that thom does not do nearly ENOUGH to right his wrongs#where is his effort to reform the orlesian military? where is his criticism of orlesian imperialism?#how does serving in the inquisition have a direct impact on the people he harmed? it doesnt#when you compare him to someone like roy mustang#yes im comparing him to roy mustang this is my blog and you are never going to escape roy mustang comparisons here#roy's political ambitions following his war crimes are directly related to those war crimes#and his goals directly benefit the same group of people he harmed#their ancestors and family members literally#meanwhile blackwall just kind of does vague “good” deeds and gets a full redemption#he really does not make much effort to repatriate the harm he did as a soldier#he just moves on#which again.... no shade to blackwall. my inky forgives him

oh girl what are they feeding the pyrekeepers and delvers over on desperloch that they have this concerning obsession over something they discover in the vaults. two seemingly different professions but the decade of routine was similarly maddening, one that stares into consuming light and the other that stares into claustrophobic darkness. god i love it.

“There’s something in my head…”
Inspired by an event held in a Crow centric roleplay server, in which a bunch of chaos ensues during what was meant to be a chill Summersday Ball and oopsie daisy, Teia gets possessed by a Demon of Ambition :D They’re having a great time.
Credit to @avvarqueen for the inspiration, as the writer of this Teia <3

Tony and ambition
Did you guys notice that MCU Tony never wanted powers? I mean, he could become a supersoldier – he had stabilized Extremis after all. But after he cured Pepper and healed his own wounds in Iron Man 3, we never heard about the technology. He could develop anything for himself, even become immortal. But he never did that. Only used external temporal enhancements – suits and nanoparticles.
He didn't try to become richer. He was born a billionaire. He maintained the wealth but did not greatly increase it. His net worth was always about $10-20 billion. For comparison, the net worth of a real person Elon Musk is $195.3 billion. Tony could get richer. He had everything to do it. And still, he didn’t.
Or power. He could get anything – more political influence, rule Sakaar (What If? S 2, Ep 4), make a wish to rule the Universe, instead of just wiping out Thanos and his army in Endgame. He did not do any of that. Or anything like that.
He wanted to create “a suit of armor around the world” not because he had ambition, but because he knew what’s coming and wanted to prevent it and save lives. He never wanted more powers than necessary to save people.
He could be the commander of the Avengers, but he gave it to Steve. With all the credits. Because he didn’t want any.
Tumblr media
What he really wanted – to get rid of the necessity of having superheroes. Like him. He just wanted to go home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do you remember his funeral? Did it look like a pompous farewell to the savior of the entire universe?

it really feels like Illario sees the Crows as his job while Lucanis sees the Crows as his entire purpose. we don't get any solid look into Illario's personal life, but we can see that Lucanis seems to take the job home with him. he doesn't sleep in a normal room because it's safer to be in the pantry where it's dark and has only one choke point. he keeps a log with his entire schedule almost down to the minute and he spends hours maintaining his equipment weekly, if not daily. he doesn't have many hobbies or contacts outside the Crows themselves and the job he's on at the moment. even prior to his imprisonment, he's shown to pretty much be "on" all the time, whether he's planning his jobs, making connections to help him with those jobs, or just honing his skills, like his sensitivity to magic or his listening abilities.
meanwhile (also from the wigmaker job since veilguard didn't give us much of anything about Illario except for a mustache-twirling villain arc) we know Illario is easily distracted by the idea of a good time and thinks about things outside of work, but he also likes his contracts straightforward, without unnecessary risks and witnesses. he just wants to get the job done, celebrate, and go home. maybe not in that order. I don't tend to take datamined info as canon but according to that, he likes dueling and gambling, which he would need to be at least somewhat sociable to participate in since I doubt Thedas has invented fantasy sports betting yet. he seems to have more of an interest in activities outside the Crows, where Lucanis dedicates almost all of his free time to either working or preparing for work.
veilguard seems to be one of the first times Lucanis actually has new people to coax him out of his shell. it sounds like when he was younger, he spent more time with Illario and did more fun things with him like sailing and adventuring, but they seem to have grown apart somewhat since then. I can't help but wonder if it's due to Caterina's increasing age and the growing awareness Illario has of her favoritism toward Lucanis. maybe Illario always wanted to make a bid for the seat of First Talon and was trying to distance himself from Lucanis by spending less time with him, or maybe Lucanis was too focused on his work or away on too many jobs thanks to his new reputation as the Demon of Vyrantium. whatever the case, I can't help but wonder if the difference in their lifestyles is what cost Illario Caterina's favor. Lucanis was more willing to give up everything for the Crows, and Illario seemingly wasn't.
I wonder if Caterina would ever find it in herself to be proud of Illario, even a little bit, once she's faced with the fact that he can be cunning and ruthless and determined to lead, where Lucanis has always been content to just follow her. I wonder if she could ever admit that she played favorites and consistently underestimated and undermined Illario, or if she's too deep in her own bias to notice how like her Illario could be.
