You Are Being Haunted — and Science Can’t Save You.

You are being haunted. And you don’t even know it.

Not by ghosts. Not by demons. But by something far worse.

Something that follows you. From inside you. From before you were conscious — and long after you think you’re dead.

I. What Follows You Without Footsteps?

In quantum physics, there’s a term:

Superposition — the idea that particles can exist in multiple states at once, until observed.

Observation collapses the wave. But what collapses you?

Answer: Your shadow.

You think it’s a trick of the light. But in quantum terms, it’s something else:

A probability field. A projection. A permanently entangled copy of your presence in spacetime.

Not metaphor. Not poetry. Physics.

II. It Comes Back. Every Time.

You can try to change.

Move cities.

Get therapy.

Shave your head and call it rebirth.

But the shadow doesn’t care.

Because the shadow isn't a symptom. It’s a recording.

A data echo of everything you’ve been. And everything you're capable of being again.

If you’ve ever tried to escape yourself — Only to circle back into old habits, old wounds, old lusts — That wasn’t weakness. It was recursion.

And recursion is physics. Not failure.

III. Quantum Haunting Is Real. Here's the Data.

Not allegory.

Literal evidence exists.

Hiroshima, 1945.

When the atomic bomb dropped, thousands vaporized in microseconds. But their shadows did not.

And here’s what’s worse:

You’re leaving them, too. Right now.

IV. What Science Still Won’t Admit

There is no unified theory explaining consciousness.

We can split atoms. We can map genomes. But we can’t explain:

Why you dream of your ex.

Why trauma shows up as smell.

Why some memories scream without sound.

Why the past lives in your body.

There is no consensus on how the mind locates itself inside the body.

But evidence suggests:

There’s something watching you from within the field of you. Something that records every shame, lust, betrayal, fear — not emotionally, but energetically.

Your trauma? Not stored in the body. Encoded.

In the wavelength of your biofield. In the negative space of your choices. In your shadow print.

V. The Observer Effect (and Why You’re Fucked)

Quantum mechanics says:

Observation changes the outcome.

If that’s true…

What happens when you observe yourself?

Guilt. Self-hatred. Shame. Depression.

Those aren’t emotions. They’re echoes. They're your own wave function collapsing on itself.

And the more aware you become of who you’ve been — The darker the shadow that stands behind you.

VI. No One Escapes. Not Even The Enlightened.

Go meditate. Go fast. Go run barefoot through forests chanting mantras.

It won’t matter.

Even monks report psychological possession during shadow integration.

Carl Jung, the man who coined the term “the shadow self,” wrote:

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life — and you will call it fate.”

But Jung didn’t know quantum field theory.

If he did, he would’ve known:

You’re not just fighting patterns. You’re resisting a mirrored field embedded into the architecture of time.

And here's the kicker: You destroy it — you destroy yourself.

VII. The Human Shadow is Not Just Metaphor — It's Mechanism

Remember Hiroshima.

The shadow was left behind. Because the body absorbed the light.

That’s not poetic. That’s radiological fact.

Let me rephrase it for clarity:

The body was erased. The shadow stayed.

And still we ask:

Is the soul what survives death?

VIII. Ladies and Gentlemen, Meet Your Quantum Stalker

You call it:

Guilt

Anxiety

The past

A bad habit

But science has a term for it too:

Quantum entanglement.

The particles that make you… you Are never alone.

And if they once interacted with trauma? They are forever linked to the energy of that event.

Even when you leave the place. Even when the person dies. Even when you heal.

The field doesn’t forget.

And neither does your shadow.

IX. Why You Should Be Scared

Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer told the story of the bomb.

But not the blast shadows.

Hollywood won't show you the real horror:

People permanently burned into stone — by light.

That’s not science fiction. That’s what’s left when energy remembers.

And energy always remembers.

You? You think you’re safe.

But the field has you documented.

Every word. Every orgasm. Every betrayal.

There is no deleting your shadow.

X. Final Revelation

You're haunted.

By what you've done. By what you've denied. By the part of you that watched you sin — and never blinked.

This is not metaphor. This is physics.

You are not being followed. You are being mirrored.

And the only way to kill your shadow?

Is to never cast one again. But to stop casting one…

You must destroy all light.

Including yourself.

“But, Dr YSN, the Higgs mechanism does not make sense?” said or rather asked the voice behind the recording phone. 

“Syrup allegory did not help at all?” Dr YSN turned from the blackboard, looking directly at the asking student. 

“I mean, I understand that when the Universe’s temperature cooled down the Higgs field condensed in all volume and scattered across it like a fog. But what and how and - ugh - why?” The student grew impatient and angry in her incomprehension. 

“It’s okay, Lauren. I understand that this subject wasn’t the one you expected while choosing to study biology. And unfortunately it is important, it will help you connect quite a few dots while learning about cell division and bioprocesses. But going back to the Higgs problem.” Doctor cleared her throat and stood near her desk. One hand holding onto the oak surface, drumming her fingers in thought of how to help those young people. 

“Dr YSN," interrupted her thought process some other student. "If the particles are getting stuck why not photons?” They connotated the allegory that Dr YSN wanted to primarily help them with understanding.

“It all comes to the mass of the particle, and just like you all know now - photons do not have mass. They are, according to quantum mechanics, a portion of energy. Yes?”

The whole room nodded their heads, suddenly remembering the lecture from just two days ago. 

“Okay, now back to the Higgs problem. Do you guys have a favourite artist?”

The lecture room erupted with not so hushed whispers about who should tell the name of their idol. Doctor patiently waited for one of the young men to grow courage and speak up. 

“Harry Styles?”

“Perfect!” Exclaimed lecturer. “Now, do we have people here that do not like Mr Styles’ music?”

On the screen overlooking more than enough of the lecture room could be seen a few of raised hands (a definite minority).

“Okay, listen carefully. We’re imagining it now."

Doctor strolled from behind her desk and moved forward as to be closer to her students.

"Let’s say that Mr Harry Styles’ music is our Higgs field. Can you do that? Amazing. Now, when he got his latest album out it spread around the world. Everyone liked it, right?"

Seeing some of the student nodding their heads, she exclaimed, "not right. You," she pointed at the student that previously raised their hands. "You all didn’t know. And that's why you are photons in our experiment. Photons, like we already relearned today, are without mass and in our example they are without love or interest in Mr Styles’ music. Everything is clear for now?”

After getting an approval of nodding heads, YN anyway moved to the blackboard and wrote:

mass = love for Mr Styles' music

photons = not-fans of Mr Styles' music

“Fantastic. Any particle that has some mass, so love for that music, will find itself stuck. You’re stuck because you love that music -” she pointed to the student that had said Harry’s name, “- so you listen to it, analyse and appreciate. The appreciation grows with love so the resistance grows with mass."

"All in all, the current love is the measure of appreciation. So?”

“The current mass of the particle is the measure of resistance that the Higgs field can withstand,” said almost everyone present in the room, making the doctor smile from ear to ear. She had already written it down on the board.

“Excuse me? If Harry’s music is the Higgs field then Harry alone is the Higgs particle - the God Particle, right?” Asked someone from the first row.

“That is correct. Excellent, Madeline! Now, you all understand the basics of the Higgs mechanism and field?”

Today, after the lecture, she was kind enough to explain to me this awful mathematics (I hate maths) even though it was late (8:30 PM) and she had plans. scienceandharstyles ok, story time! 1) it was at this very cute cat cafe in Oxford, very close to my campus. they serve those beautiful coffee with drawn cats on the foam!! super cute! but back to the story, i was just petting one of the cats - Murphy - when i heard the bells. and I am super noisy and needed to know who entered the cafe

scienceandharstyles 2) i looked up and it was dr YSN (tiktoks higgs professor but i really don't like calling her that). when she saw me she just immediately walked up to me and asked if she could seat with me while she waited for her friend to arrive. i, of course, agreed (i literally love her).

scienceandharstyles 3) she then helped me with some of my work for uni (maths again...) and while explaining she was so attentive and asked about my day. she asked if i got the tickets for the concert i wanted (i didn't say it was for harry) and when I said I did, she was so happy for me!

scienceandharstyles 4) after about 30 minutes of talking someone else entered the cafe and, you guessed it, it was harry. what's more, he walked up to us because HE WAS THE FRIEND MY RPOFESSOR WAS WAITING FOR. he greeted her with a hug and introduced himself to me. i was so shocked i couldn't form a sentence. dr ysn helped me calm down and said a few words for me.

scienceandharstyles 5) they both then moved to the other table to actually enjoy their time together. but before that harry offered to take the photo with me but only if he could wear my hat!!!! yeah, it was a wild day

The one thing I have a lot of personal, PERSONAL beef with about the entire Solas/Elvhen vs. City Elves/Dalish thing is simple: a lot of people in this fandom keep ignoring that this is one huge allegory for generational trauma and colonialism. Including Solas.

Maybe it hits home harder with me, especially because the real world inspirations the writers admit to using are Natives. And boy, I see the bones that make up the Dalish are absolutely Native-coded.

Constantly hunted? Constantly looked down upon for trying to keep to their traditions, even if the memories aren't as complete as they once were? Their very positive views on magic and the spiritual that run counter to common belief? Their religion is outlawed by the DA equivalent of the Christian church? The illegal verses of the Chant speaking about Chartan? The facial tattoos, the traveling camps, their attention to raising wild breeds of painted horses (the famed Dalish All-Bred in DA:I), the harts, following the migrations of the halla?

And then factor in the City Elf vs. Dalish experience. It reflects a lot of the same issues we have now. "City Indians" vs. "Rez Indians." The arguments about blood-quantum parallel a lot with the "elf-blooded" shit in DA. They don't have the ears, but they were raised like an elf! It reminds me of a very small dialogue in The Masked Empire between Fiona and Michel de Chevin, where Fiona immediately clocked him as half-elf because he never treated her poorly or called her slurs and subconsciously ducked his head slightly in doorways like he expected to bump his head in an alienage shack. Michel clings to his Chevalier code desperately, because if anyone found out he was half-elf, he'd be tossed back into the Alienages. It's peak "You're mixed but you can pass as white" coding in my eyes.

So then Solas rolls up, shitting on all the existing elves, calling them "children" and decrying them as idiots clinging to barely-remembered bits of history.... Good God, you ass. Like, I get it. I'm sure if one of my ancestors appeared before me and saw what has become of our people, they'd be horrified. But idk, there is also pride to be had in resisting and enduring and outlasting every government's attempt to erase what they see as a subpar culture.

When he asks "Did I judge the Dalish too harshly?" I always wanna just reach through the screen and go "YEAH ACTUALLY"

do we think Quantum of Solace is actually about revenge? Cuz I'm watching/rewatching this video essay, and it's okay so far (I got as far as the point where the guy was explaining the short story), but it's veeery much predicated on the assumption that Quantum of Solace IS a "revenge plot" for Bond. Like, I don't disagree that the movie is structured as a "revenge plot" movie. But. ....I dunno, I do still feel like that for Bond at least. he... doesn't? seem like? he's on a warpath for revenge? at least not for me?

like. he very much is being framed as being on one. (literally within the movie too -- Quantum keeps framing Bond for a bunch of deaths he didn't cause lmao). And it's based on these deaths that M - and also the British gov't dudes - think or assume or come to the conclusion that he's on a revenge path/gone rogue.

But ultimately... having seen the movie... I think I DO in fact still find this video essay's argument more compelling:

which is that actually, Bond isn't the one on a revenge arc, Camille is. And Bond is like. hm. okay honestly lmao, joking not joking, I think Camille is the protagonist and Bond is the Bond girl here. He's her femme fatale. But also. I think it's interesting cuz imo. imo!! Bond almost acts as a sort of... frame story? for Camille's story. Like they're foils & very strong parallels (including some absolutely insane ones lmao... Camille's confession of sexpionage and she's like, does this offend you? and he's like no, not at all. and then. Dominic Greene. calling BOTH of them "damaged goods"? fuckin wild, dude. Ur Alpha Male Fantasy just got slut-shamed, bros!! Bond had a woman die for him but she wasn't fridged and also along with the 'she wasn't fridged' she wasn't just a backstory blip either, she was the story! and ALSO she's held against him? oh he's not just a Stoic Tragic Backstory Action Man, he's """"damaged goods""""? wild, okay. love that for us but, wild for the dudebros.) and also there's a kind of allegory in there for Bond, but also like........ do we really think Bond was on a revenge quest? or a fact-finding quest. a need-to-understand quest.

that first video essay argues sth like "we know he's on a revenge quest cuz he found time to grab the photo of the boyfriend" or whatever he said, and then sth about "it becomes pretty early on that we're not supposed to view Bond's pursuit in a positive light--" but we're also literally shown that M & MI-6 are being fed false info, they're being led to believe Bond is killing all of these people that he isn't?

And even when that first video essay was talking abt the director's words abt the movie... he literally quotes this!!!

this guy argues that the film pointedly juxtaposes Bond's stated objectivity and "increasingly aggressive actions--" but. does he though?? He literally kills a guy out of the gate - the guy he stabbed with the scissors - but the rest are?? deaths framed on him??

the ONE time I think he really gets worked up - when he jumps down on that car & is like "we had a friend in common" or whatever the exact phrasing it was -- this was for Mathis, right? who literally died in his arms?

anyway. I dunno. I just feel like. this video essay... misses the point? And buys too much into the supposed message - which is actually Camille's story and not Bonds - and makes the faulty assumption that Bond IS on a revenge quest.

Like. I guess an argument could be made that he didn't kill uhh Yusuf(?) cuz Camille had her moment of getting revenge and it leaving her hollow. But like....... I dunno. to be honest. I have a hard time believing Bond would have killed Yusuf even if he hadn't alternate-self/parallel-universe parallel-play/lived Camille's life. Nothing in how he ACTUALLY acted leading up to this moment. makes me think he would have killed Yusuf?? Like why would he. He would be shooting the guy in cold blood. It wouldn't be the supposed hot-headed passionate revenge shooting that this video essay seems to make Bond's arc out to be.

I DO find the argument that whether or not Vesper actually loved him or if she was ONLY using him - and him learning that yes she actually did - was a point of solace & closure for him, compelling.

But I'm NOT at all convinced that this truly was a revenge drive for Bond.

gonna make another post about this but Bond has this veeeryy interesting thing where he's like. so brutally practical that once someone is dead, they're dead. he's able to like. lock on excise sentimentality for brutal practicality (dumping Mathis' body in the dumpster and grabbing his cash). like he's not without feeling - jumping onto the car - but also it's soooo interesting that he's like. so sentimental in like, he can & does feel intensely (and falls in love easily/falls at least a bit in love with the ppl who have an impact on him). but not sentimental in, like, the more maudlin kind of sense. It's soo fascinating, but. this post is already so long & let's keep it focused.

But yeah. opening it to the class. So what do we think? do y'all think QoS is a revenge movie for Bond? Cuz. I still am Not convinced it is. It just plays one on tv/ppl Think it is.

(No spoilers) Don't believe the anti-hype around Captain America (4) Brave New World

Look, I drunk the koolaide. I'm not ashamed to admit it. I did not care for Secret Invasion at all, The Marvels had its fun moments although it felt creatively messy and seems to have not found much of a devoted following. Quantumania wasn't that bad but it lacked the charm of the first two: the Quantum Realm just felt like Pandora and the delight of seeing the real world through radically varied perspectives of height was lost.

So when I saw the trailers for Brave New World when combined with the rumors of problems with the production, a flat test audience response, a supposed account of a troubled production leaked by an alleged anonymous crew member, I was primed to feel very "meh" about it.

I like Sam Wilson as a character and Anthony Mackie is a fine actor, I don't believe that Bucky should have been the one to get The Shield. But The Formula was starting to show in recent Marvel outings, I was starting not to really feel it, and I projected that onto the trailers.

I was wrong. If the rumors of an entire set piece having been cut for instance and major plot reworkings undertaken, my sense is that it was for the best. This was a cleaner narrative. Not an exercise in overtly trying to sell merch and set up a zillion sequels by bloating the film with subplots, references, and cameos.

Which is good! The point of having Sam as Cap isn't just to do a palette swap for the social justice of it all, its to tell a kind of story that you couldn't tell with Steve with different stakes. It largely succeeds at this. I wouldn't necessarily say it knocks it out of the park, but it does succeed. The film does enough to remind us that Sam is not an enhanced and he has to approach danger with a different attitude than Steve.

Without giving too much of the plot away, redubbing the film Brave New World instead of New World Order feels like a good choice instead of an act of cowardice. Brave New World fits this film's spirit much better. Depending on script changes, I suspect New World Order would have been a darker, more nihilistic film, on par with the pessimism of Secret Invasion. I have no basis for this, its just speculation.

This is a more hopeful film, I'm glad of it because for many reasons ranging from self interest, principle, and empathy I'm not really enjoying my experience of the New World Order of 2025 and like my beloved Star Trek, I find myself comforted by stories of principled people reacting to indecency with decency rather than embracing nihilism and cynicism. Doomerism in media felt radical and bold in 2003, today I find it boring. If I want to be sad, I'll read the news. In fiction, I want some mix of novel allegory and inspiration.

By no means is Brave New World a saccharine movie, like Falcon & Winter Soldier it is a film about the sins of the past maturing into poisoned fruit in the present and the need to address history's moral lapses and deal with their consequences rather than pretend it never happened. But it is inspiring in that it is a film in which characters choose to "do better."

I honestly think if it wasn’t for the writers being so insistent on humanity hating Transformers for a very poor racism allegory, you’d have humans and Autobots sharing technology ala G1 cartoon and Transformers Energon, and in such an environment you’d probably have humanity largely being powered by Energon as a clean energy source.

Mandroid in his insanity would doom the planet to the Stone Age with his Doomsday machine because by this point in the story, humanity has seen a quantum leap in tech thanks to the Autobots sharing resources and vice versa.

If the planet were under threat in that way from Mandroid, it’d make sense. Instead the writers failed to understand their own villain, and in their own hubris tried to make it MOAR EPIC in a way that didn’t make sense for what was going on. And that’s not getting into why the Terrans, who don’t even use Energon, succumbed to the machine. That’s just bad drama.

Why I Chose My Names/Meanings Behind Them:

I chose the username humanitysstrongestsoldier1 because of Levi from AOT; not just for his strength, but for his rage, his refusal to break even when the world burns. I relate to that. I crave strength, of body and will. The kind of strength that doesn’t beg for mercy, that doesn’t bend to gods or fate.

The Bane of God stems from my constant heretical and iconoclastic mindset. I’ve always questioned divinity, challenged dogma, and pushed against imposed beliefs. It reflects my inner rebellion, the desire to unmake gods and re-mold truths.

As for my pen name—Simurgh—that’s how I wish to be addressed. The Simurgh is a mythical creature from Persian folklore, wise and ancient, often seen as a symbol of collective consciousness and realisation. I chose it from one of my favourite works by Attar of Nishapur, The Conference of the Birds. In the story, the birds of the world—each representing a different human flaw or virtue—gather and decide they need a king. They embark on a journey to find the legendary Simurgh, crossing seven perilous valleys: Quest, Love, Knowledge, Detachment, Unity, Bewilderment, and finally, Annihilation. Many fall behind. Only thirty birds reach the end. But when they arrive, they find no external ruler waiting for them. Instead, they see themselves reflected—scarred, weathered, transformed. They are the Simurgh. The name itself is a play on words in Persian—‘si’ meaning thirty, and ‘murgh’ meaning birds. It’s a powerful metaphor: the divine, the answer, the strength they were searching for was within them all along. That idea resonates deeply with me—of searching, suffering, and ultimately discovering that the power we seek lies in self-awareness, in introspection. The Simurgh isn’t just a creature. It’s a mirror into yourself...

A Whovian Watches Star Trek for the First Time: Part 070 - The Corruption of Archer

Star Trek: Enterprise - Season 3 Episode 19 - Damage

Continuing right on from where we left off, our crew is in a rather dire position. I think this is the most damage that Enterprise has taken, at least outside of Alter timeline quantum parasite shenanigans. But suddenly: The Xindi withdraw for reasons unknown. My first thought was that Archer had given over the information the Xindi wanted, but after the intro it turns out the Xindi Council had ordered it. They've also arranged to take Archer out of the Reptilians hands. It would appear Archer's gambit of Degra has payed off.

Meanwhile on Enterprise, all hands are on Deck to make repairs. The Warp engines are destroyed, so they have to limp away from Azati Prime on Impulse. I love how broken the ship feels here. Sparks are flying, debris is everywhere, the medical bay is full. The ship really does feel like it's taken a beating.

Instead of being transported to the Xindi council however, it appears the Aquatic Xindi have been ordered to take Archer back to Enterprise. It would also appear however, that T'Pol is succumbing to the effect that Trellium D has on the Vulcans. The show choses to bring it into focus right way, but even afterwards, T'Pol's actress is amazing having it's effect subtly come through in her performance in later scenes that don't focus on it. We also learn later that this was less the direct effects of exposure to Trellium D, but rather it seems she's becoming addicted to it. A drug addiction allegory seems like it's come out of nowhere, but I'm willing to see where this goes. Between the her SA allegory, the AIDs allegory and now this, it does feel like they've been putting every 90's talking point onto one character. She does have an honest conversation about it with Phlox though

During the repairs, there are a few really good crew interactions I like. Travis's reassurance to Hoshi that "We are getting home" was great. Archer and Phlox also had a great scene in Archer's quarters, talking about ethics as both doctors and Captains, as Archer considers stealing another ship's warp coil by force. This appears to be the turning point in the whole corruption arc that was hinted at early in the season. The way this conversation was shot, with the lighting keeping Phlox in the dark and out of focus was beautiful. Archer is going down a dark path, and I'm really interested to see if he can make it out the other side without becoming a villain.

The action scene aboard the alien ship during Archer's attempt at Piracy, while T'Pol was trying to keep both ships alive was brilliant. Plus we got a nice scene of Phlox and T'pol have a nice seen of friendship together, and it's really great seeing Phlox become her confidant.

This episode was a lot more interesting that the other main plot episodes. I like that we're properly launching into Archer having to make these Morally Dubious decisions. He's made a few before, but this is the first time the episode hasn't been treating him as if he's right, and I'm excited to see where his character arc goes.

MOVIES I WATCHED THIS WEEK (#197)

"How did she get forgotten?"

BE NATURAL: THE UNTOLD STORY OF ALICE GUY-BLACHÉ (2018) was one of the best documentaries I saw last year. And because I focus more and more on women-directed movies, I had to watch it again. What a unique, fascinating pioneer she was, and how much did her amazing achievements change the world. Narrated by (another prodigy) Jodie Foster. Like ‘The Méliès Mystery’ biography, these two are a must-see for any serious film lover. Even in re-view, the story moved me greatly. 10/10. ♻️.

Extra: Another film essay about the same topic, FILMS DIRECTED BY WOMEN IN THE SILENT ERA (2013) tells of some of the 80 women who directed 850+ movies between 1896 to 1927 (but not too well). [*Female Directors*]

"Do you think we can go for a walk with a lobster...?"

THE WHEELCHAIR (1960) is my second bizarre black comedy by Marco Ferreri (after 'La Grande Bouffe'). A different kind of an anarchistic story about a 70-year-old Spanish man who's determined to buy a mobility scooter, a motorized wheelchair, like many of his invalid acquaintances, while his tyrannical family would rather commit him to an insane asylum, for spending their inheritance. It's just so wild and so fresh. The copy I saw was extra-crisp, and included the dark ending which Franco's censure board forced deleting. (Screenshot Above).

2 WITH BRITISH CHILD ACTRESS PAMELA FRANKLIN:

🍿 “For those who like that sort of thing that is the sort of things they like…”

THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE (1969) sparkled because of Maggie Smith's spectacular acting. But her frustrated spinster, an uppity teacher at an all-girl boarding school in 1930's Edinburgh was such a confusing character; Stuck-up and prissy, fascistic and manipulative, eventually she loses your sympathy. She is a strong, independent feminist, but also a fascist follower of Mussolini and Franco [But not Hitler - that would have been a politically-incorrect step too far]. And when the sex undercurrents start boiling over the surface, and the teachers start sleeping with each other and with their teenager girls, things get grotesquely complicated.

🍿 (Extra: A sketch from S8E10 of the CAROL BURNETT SHOW, where newly-famous movie star Maggie Smith comes to visit the home of her old collage friends. I never watched any television with laugh tracks, and I'm not going to start now). 1/10.

🍿 THE INNOCENTS (1961), a Gothic ghost story of a governess caring for two children at a remote country estate. Based on a Henry James novella, with a script co-written by Truman Capote, it's a formal British Victorian Gentry fantasy about inexplicable "possession". 11 year old Pamela Franklin gave a wonderful performance as the little haunted girl, but the whole premise of this glorious upper-class supernatural world, and Deborah Kerr's always 'proper' and sexually-repressed personality, were not for me. 2/10.

🍿 First watch: The classic dystopian fairy tale THE MATRIX, which went on to spawn a $3 billion sci-fi franchise. There were plenty of visual flourishes, and original special effects in it [The 'digital rain' code, slow-motion 'bullet time', the Kung-fu wire photography, jumping from building to building, the stylized action scenes], but I hated it from the very beginning, and for the life of me, couldn't understand how this ever become a Thing: The fortune-cookie pseudo-philosophy, the faux mysticism and cyberpunk "camp" aesthetics are just not for me. Once you don't accept that the "Red Pill / Blue Pill" metaphor is a legitimate thought experiment which is worth taking seriously, the rest of the mambo-jumbo nerd-bubble becomes just a stupid teenage game. Yes, we are all slaves, living in a virtual reality simulation, but this is not a Plato's Cave allegory. Not even 'Blade Runner'... 2/10. [*Female Directors*]

FELA KUTI, LIVE AT GLASTONBURY, a 1984 concert film of the legendary Afro-beat musician, political activist and band leader. He was an improvising innovator genius, somewhere between Frank Zappa and Miles Davis. The concert included only 2 of his very long songs, some of his own fantastic drumming, and lengthy dancing-twerking by some of his 27 wives. But it wasn't his best music or performance. Also, the YouTube copy was of poor quality: I hope that in 3-4 years we'll be able to re-watch it on a highly-upgraded A.I. version.

🍿 ... But Wilder's 'comedy' STALAG 17 (1953) didn't age well, for me. A POW Camp that is run like a German Bed & Breakfast, and where the chummy Nazis treat their prisoners in a courteous and friendly manner, was too irritating and far-fetched. The only redeeming quality was lead actor William Holden. Otto Preminger played a buffoonish Nazi officer. 2/10.

(In Israel of the 1950s–1960s, "Stalag" was a generic term for pornographic material with a theme of sadistic sexual activity between female SS officers and prisoners of war. I read a couple when I was 10-12.)

THE HANGOVER, the terrific comedy about the antics of the four members of the 'Wolfpack', each with his distinct and well-defined personality. A perfect script and dialogue, so dumb and so funny. It's clearly about 'Acceleration', where each new step drives the story higher into more outrageous & absurd levels. Again, it's hard to imagine that such harmless throwaway foolery grossed $1.4 billion! 9/10. Re-watch. ♻️.

I'm currently going back through O.K. K.O. episodes to write a piece on the episode "The So-Bad-Ical."

I really want a refresher on Dendy since she's a big thematic foil/counterpart to Ms. Quantum. So, I'm starting with Dendy's official introductory episode "I am Dendy." It'll be awhile before I have another more organized write-up and I thought you guys might appreciate some of my rambly, disorganized thoughts/observations anyway. I wanted to highlight some stuff I missed before:

K.O. establishes that trashed Boxbots get discarded in the alley. This episode is the Junkfish's first on-screen appearance: Boxman's first keystone invention for attracting Boxmore investors and robotic henchman to attack the Plaza before the known Boxbot line-up! The Junkfish is archaic compared to Shannon, Darrell, Ernesto, etc. Dendy originally suggested stealing Mr. Logic's glorb core. So, at face value, part of the difference between a sapient robot and something like the Junkfish is a glorb core. Thus far, I've focused more on glorbs in the respect of the "turbo" power-up or the Chip Damage power-up. It'll be interesting to do a deeper dive on other applications if I can find a specific throughline/emphasis on that.

I'm not sure if there's any other context clues in regards to the Boxbots' sapience or make-up, but I'll keep an eye out. As is, there's weirdly organic parts to their make-up (like Darrell's exposed brain in a jar, Shannon's human feet, etc). The bots are classified as robots; they have parts that can be easily swapped out/replaced. I assumed these were mechanical parts or synthetic. It's not an outrageous stretch considering the weird hodgepodge of fantastical elements and genre mixes this toon goes for. Hell, when it comes to Boxman and Venomous, Boxman is established as the robotics/programming expert where Venomous is the more classic Frankenstein mad scientist that specializes in biological/organic mad science fuckery. It reflects in how these guys approach/utilize glorbs, too: Boxman wants them as a power source for his bots and PV wants them as a power-up for his minion. That's for personal use on their parts respectively; they're not averse to selling them for ludicrous amounts of money.

This is the first on-screen appearance/reference to PV too! It's also one of two very specific scenes where K.O. highlights his POW card (the second being the YouTube channel episode). K.O. mentions that PV's POW card is online-only. POW cards are generally equated to Pokemon cards or other real world collectibles outside of K.O.'s go-to reference point for his current power level. Most of K.O.'s immediate friends and family, including his common enemies like the Boxbots, have easily accessible cards. The comment about PV's card is the first reference to how low-key and private this dude is. He's not as public as Boxman is. With Boxman, a hero could get a one-on-one confrontation if they barge into Boxmore. With Venomous, they need an appointment or they're just thrown into a trap. Also, he's level -7 at this point! He's a -8 later so it's a fun nod to the villains gaining levels through the fights too.

As another aside, K.O.'s specific attachment to this card long before the 'I am your father' reveal is brilliant! It sets audience anticipation, it establishes K.O.'s connection with him, and it informs viewers to keep tabs on this villain specifically.

In regards to Dendy specifically, I definitely want to highlight the early hints at her fascination with science can reach the point of almost all-encompassing. Getting results can be higher priority than the health of the subject or the ethics involved. She's a bit too cavalier in suggesting that 'harvesting' Mr. Logic's glorb core is a valid option. She frames her interactions with K.O. through the lens of scientist and test subject. Dendy can and does choose K.O. and her moral compass when it comes to tense situations.

I read this as an allegory for interacting with a socially awkward autistic person that has some difficulties with empathy. It's not that Dendy isn't an empathetic person. It's more that she doesn't immediately understand the optics of most social situations or the nuances of interacting with other people. K.O. is a wonderful complement to this as someone with high empathy and a strong emotional IQ. The way they play off of each other really helps paint the best set of circumstances for someone like Dendy: K.O. helps her learn how to talk things through with others and better understand the mismatch between her lack of language to properly articulate her feelings and others' potential misunderstandings of her intentions.

I would've loved to see how Dendy plays off of PV. Under the right wrong circumstances, Dendy could have ended up as a mad scientist. She chooses to be a hero and try to better herself and the world around her through her technical and scientific prowess. PV chose to become a villain and mad scientist; he deliberately chooses to harm. When Dendy hurts someone, it's unintentional. There's really interesting potential for thematic foils here. If I go too far down this rabbit hole, I might end up with another spec fan fic, hahah.

Let me know if you want more scatterbrained, rambly stuff like this whether it's on O.K. K.O. or otherwise. I have another ramble I want to do about Boxman's vs PV's taste in wall art/aesthetics that I can't fit anywhere else. This may be a good fit for weird, derailed thoughts like that.
