hello! I love your art! I just wanted to know if you use references for your poses and if so where you get them (if you're ok with sharing) thanks and keep making great stuff!

Yes! I use references a lot! I'd say about 50% of all pieces I depend on some form of refs.

I am not the best at figuring out dynamic or interesting poses. And using references always gives a better understanding and a nice body flow. It just looks nicer. Sometimes I make them myself, sometimes I google or go to specific sites. It kinda depends. But when I notice I struggle I always go for refs.

When I don't have a specific pose but just the general Idea in mind, I just google "X stock photo" and browse through them until I find one that speaks to me. The watermarked photos are usually big enough for me to use so I never really buy them.

If I already have a pose in mind and I feel I need some help, I either google and or will use aphrite (for whole body refs) or this website (for specific body parts) which name I don't even know? Since I started actively practicing, there's been less of a need for references to get the pose I want properly on the canvas, because I'm better at understanding the body. I still use them a looooot though.

If it's just a small detail I can't get right(usually hands) I will either make a ref myself or take a photo of my partner (he's used to spontaneous photo shoots lmao)

Sometimes I also just need a quick check of how different body parts align and will go look in the mirror (without taking a photo). Like for this one, I struggled while drawing and wondered if I truly understood how the arms aligned. Turned out I didn't draw it correctly initially.

For certain characters I also have a 'face claim' and have a loooot of saved references for all kinds of angles. But I'm not showing those because I don't want to reveal them. I just always make sure it's someone where I can get a lot of photos from different angles.

Vizref is an amazing app for storing and sorting references if you're working on an iPad. Definitely worth the $. I use it strategically for single pieces where I have lots of inspo and refs, or sometimes face claims and my own art of characters so I remember how the fuck I drew them lmao

For things you draw a lot: I also got myself a cheap cowboy hat and foam head for Applejack specifically, since finding cowboy hat references for that specific angle I'm looking for is often near impossible.

I don't like to search for long so I tend to use google + the above for any specific search. But when I practice I love to go to stock photo artists. They all have a large portfolio and a LOT of photos for free (do check their terms of use though, especially when money is involved).

You should check out their patreons because you get A LOT of value for a very good price (approx 1.5$ - 5$). But again, they all also have a lot of photos out there for free.

TOON HANDLERS THAT GET Y/N a PET!!!

Arthur thinks that there should be more than just Pebble and Coal for pets, kids like cats right? So he goes to Delilah and asks to make a little kitty, just to test the waters,

Austin is a bit worried since the cat seemed to start hissing at other toons.. (mostly the Yandere mains) ((including Astro)) and tried to get the cat to leave them alone, but Astro is so excited! He’s read books about step parents and wants to start acting like a step-dad to the cat, who hisses at him and swats at him.

Dandy is MAAAAAAD, how DARE Sam, and Devan team up to make that HELLSPAWN hATE HIM. Shut UP about the cat liking Pebble, that’s because Pebble is warm and a good walker so the cat can nap on his back while Pebble runs around!! Devan thinks it’s funny as shit as Pebble runs around with the cat and Dandy’s chasing pebble to try and get rid of the cat

Sam is excited to know the cat does infact, hate Sprout, they give the kitty treats when Sprout is being a lil too pushy and the cat hissed at him to bring him down a notch, the cat is anti-sprout trained /j

Shannon and Shelly are pretty cool w/ the cat, the cat just wants space, and Shelly likes dressing the cat up in saber tooth tiger costumes! Shelly and y/n have fashion show with prehistoric cat costumes. (Shelly’s favorite is the matching T-Rex onesie)

Veronica and Vee have figured out how to get the cat to love them, when Vee gets a lil too hot, the cat likes to nap on her, so Vee downloads a bit too much, and she’s pretty warm most of the time, and the cat is pretty chill if it can nap on Vee’s head while she’s on a game show.

Bailey and Bobbett are put off by the cat being so cool with Coal, the two have a secret language and Bobbett knows it!!! She’s gonna find out WHAT they’re saying (Coal and the Cat have matching collars)

Birdie and Bassie are pretty okay with it, (Bassie likes how the cat instinctively chases Cocoa around bc bunny = food) and Birdie thinks it’s cute how the cat climbs into Bassie’s head.

- Authur, trying to be a decent father to you because that's basically what he is, heard about how you were uncomfortable with the Toons obsessing over you.

- So he went to Delilah to make you your own personal companion you can talk with who will never be obsessed with you, at most just a clingy animal.

- And he went with a cat. Specially the image of a cat you drew once and called Grim.

- They matched Grim's personality to what you described him as. Arrogant, childish, loud. Desperate to be a great mage and have respect even if all he can to is breathe fire. A little glutton. Capable of standing on his hind legs and walking around like that. And talks a ton, often making cat sounds or "myah"s as he speaks.

- Both Delilah and Authur were happy when you were thrilled to get Grim, and even more so when you two got close quickly and Grim called you his "hench-toon".

- Authur was concerned with Grim's clinginess until Delilah clarified Grim is just inherently protective of you, but not obsessed. That was a major relief.

- So you had your own little buddy now! He'd help you with deliveries and let you talk with him and snuggle him. It was great!

- Everyone else had differing opinions though.

- Okay, firstly, the Toon handlers though Grim was adorable. Sure, he was loud and fussy, but he was the only Toon here that hung around you without being obsessed as fuck.

- Sam was a little annoyed by Grim, but didn't complain much. After all, Grim was cute and wasn't as much as a fire-hazard as Sam was concerned.

- Shanon thought the little guy was the cutest thing ever and was disappointed Grim refused to let her hug him. Then you told Grim to let her hug him and she was happy.

- Veronica (I headcanon her as a cat person) fucking ADORES Grim. She buys him so many cans of tuna just to see his little grin when he gets all happy to see the tuna. (Veronica is also Grim's favorite handler for this fact).

- Austin doesn't like Grim too much. Mostly due to how Grim is super loud and fucking HATES Austin for trying to make Grim's hench-Toon hang around that Astro guy. Can't he see you don't like Astro that much?? Is Austin blind?? Yeah, Grim hisses at Austin a ton.

- Devan, despite being more of a dog person, thinks Grim is cute. Sure, Grim is loud and annoying, but Devan's just happy you have more friends and there's someone helping you out now.

- Sorry I'm not gonna do fan Toon handlers (I'm sorry pookie </3)

- Dandy fucking HATES Grim.

- Yeah we doing Toons now.

- Just the mains, Dandy, and MC's canonical friends

- But Dandy hates Grim. Grim is basically the opposite of you, and Grim keeps trying to light Dandy on fire whenever he gets close. Dandy doesn't like this cat at ALL.

- Astro is very apprehensive of Grim. Sure, Grim is just trying to protect you, but Astro is a little uncomfortable with you keeping a troublemaker like this as company... First Shrimpo, now this?

- Shelly likes Grim. Grim is cute, doesn't fight back outside of verbal complaints when you and her dress him up, and plays along for when you and Shelly hang out. The two are in fact friends.

- Sprout and Grim barely tolerate eachother. Sprout due to the fact Grim help keeps Dandy away from you and Grim due to the fact Sprout feeds him. They're by no means friends. More sort-of allies.

- Vee doesn't pay much mind to Grim. Grim doesn't explicitly despise her and she just doesn't bother him too much. Barely know eachother, however Grim will go to Vee if he needs an answer to something about you.

- Pebble and Grim have BEEF.

- Brightney is concerned with how stupid Grim is. She's sitting him down and teaching him canned tuna is the same as the fish right now.

- Glisten honestly thinks Grim is adorable. Grim doesn't wear makeup much, but it's always because of Glisten when he does. Grim and Glisten are friends.

- Shrimpo HATES Grim. But Shrimpo hates everyone. Honestly, Shrimpo just hates how Grim takes up more of your attention, but calms down a bit when he realizes you still care about him.

- Finn won't stop making fish puns to Grim and Grim is crying to you about it.

- Blot, Looey, and Yatta all are trying to convince you AND Grim to do a performance with them now. Grim would make a great firebreather, wouldn't he? Because he literally can just breathe fire.

- Ginger doesn't see Grim much, but the two are friends. She thinks he's precious.

- Dazzle adores Grim even if he's noisy. Razzle's just happy you have a friend who makes you AND Dazzle happy!

- Teagan is amused by how Grim eats most of the snacks at your guy's tea parties.

- Grim is scared of Tisha since she will sit him down and give him a bath if he gets dirty. He does NOT test her.

Shadow and Maria Collage/painting

(I tried scanning this on my printer, mixed results though, it's not as vibrant as I hoped it be, but it is flat so thats good lol)

I started with a little cute idea of shadow watching the Aroura Borialis in a field of lilies, seemingly alone but the ghost of Maria is watching with him aww (similar to the dark beginnings episodes). I didn't really know what to do with this drawing after I finished it though...

And then it hit me...boom...a collage idea. So I made a digital sketch in ibis paint

Fun fact: I added pages from Gerald Robotnik's journal, specifically entry #589 (which is about Maria) and entry #620 (which is about how Maria gave the name Project Shadow a new meaning "A shadow can show you where to find the light"). Both entries reflect the characters very nicely and I love that detail 😌✨️

Painting (I frickin love the Aroura Borialis, also THE MOON peak, I loved every second of painting this whole thing!)

Added darker blue shading to the pencil drawing and added the lilies on top. I drew some lilies on paper then traced over them in coloured pencil with a light box

Then I cut up the drawing to look like shattard glass...or a broken record...MUHAHAHAHHA SONIC MOVIE 3 REF PERHAPS? Anyways that was also done with a sketch and the lightbox to help as a guide (I don't have photos of the process but I took photos of the guide sketches)

anyways, Dracula's Ex-Girlfriend was so fucking good and despite my hatred of drawing (let alone painting) humans it compelled me to create something.

I'm just going to leave a wall of commentary on the process under the cut because I need to chatter about all of this real quick

I chose this scene at the end because 1. it was super hard to find one still where Bella and Fay are both properly visible (yet somehow Fay's still facing the other direction) and 2. this scene just hits a bit different to me.

the discussion of smoking, a thing that's bad, but it being life, right as Bella drank that bartender dry made me think of a few things I experienced and while I personally will still keep on going against what Fay said here, I still got to see things in a somewhat different light I guess.

Fay's care is also so present here. Bella is self-destructing massively, but Fay still comforts her, even after she "fell back" on her bad habits (she never quit) and this hug just hit me personally quite a lot. the silent care, the "you're warm". I can't fully describe everything it makes me feel, but this scene was good.

on a more technical level. I had to take some creative liberties with the lighting and such because it was DARK and my painting skills aren't ready to make such minute details with extremely dark colors. It would get ugly and muddied, so I had to adapt. the harsh shading on Bella's face is less striking, but I don't know if I could make it better with my current skills.

This was also one of the first times I've really rendered a human face; Last time I "tried" it was 1. without a ref (unwise) and 2. when I was even worse at drawing humans and I ended up so mad at this painting that I Could Not Go Paint Again for a while because of how mad I was lol, so I'm honestly really impressed with how I managed to do this without making a huge mess.

At least until I got to add the blood. It still looks good now, but I had to fiddle a lot with the reds I used and the skintones to mitigate the damage of a few first strokes that got too grandiose.

I also decided that Fangs. I am a bit of a vampire researcher and seeing the different traits they get in different media is always fun and here the fangs seem a bit retractable, but Bella's a vampire and I am a sucker for fangs, so I had to include them.

my handwriting also didn't fail me too horribly, even if I had a few accidents and had to clean them up before I got this "clean" little text. I really don't have good brushes for very thin and precise strokes (nor the capacity to not tremble the entire time honestly)

This was honestly quite fun too. Four hours of listening to some music, having a weird moment with my mother on the phone and just painting. I did really not want to draw Bella's face at first and drew nearly everything else before I began, but once I did I got into the groove and it went fine, so I'm pleased with this.

Idk just some studies I did at school with no refs whatsoever so a few may be slightly anatomically incorrect.

(Take into account that this is only my opinion, draw however you want. These are only observations. And I did minimal research due to this being a small side project mainly done at school, so if you would like a more detailed explanation of this [I can definitely rant more in detail on this lol] or you think something is wrong please do notify me!) (I also know this has been done before but eh)

Ok, so over all my years of seeing digitigrade legs on bipeds, I have wondered countless times of how some could keep themselves upright without being very uncomfortable…

Here is the most common one that I see that is quite confusing for me:

I… really don’t get how this could be effective. Even with stronger tendons and musculature, they would always be tensed, and therefore the organism would get tired quite quickly due to the constant strain. I assume walking would be quite difficult as well.

Here are a few more variations of confusing digi-legs that I see:

Ok, so. Time to provide ideas for alternatives… but first of all, we must understand the structure of a digitigrade leg:

(Human-dog comparison) As seen in this drawing, digitigrade, like its name suggests, means that only the digits of the foot touch the ground in a regular stance.

A human is plantigrade creature, meaning that they walk on the sole of their foot, with their heel touching the ground. In short, all of the foot.

Surely most of you already know that though, so I don’t think I need to explain any further on that part (unless you want me to. As in like, why.)

Ok- now onto alternatives. with a digitigrade leg slightly modified for an upright biped, I present you with this:

minimal strain is ensured by this more upright leg design. As you can observe, I also use this straighter version with my own semi-bipedal original genus.

Ok… apart from this, here are two more speculative builds:

I] Velociraptor-esque build/stance

(Yes I know that the running blade has no joints but I just want to compare that they would both be quite springy and fast.)

II] Ostrich/bird-esque build

I assume this could be a very speedy design. The digits would also be very mildly elevated, but not enough to be unguligrade. (I drew it slightly too long in the drawing though) uaaa I am too tired to write a description separate from the stuff written in the drawing but I wanted to post this today goddamnit.

"I don't plan to have Breakdown and Knockout be a couple in my AU for 2 reasons. For 1, I'm building my AU off of the Prime show with minimal outside influence. So I have no plans to incorporate anything form any comics outside of the Prime show.

In the Prime show, Breakdown and Knockout were just partners, in the sense they were sent out to battles together frequently. At the most they were friends. So friends in my AU they shall become/stay.

Secondly, I personally really don't like shipping or adding romance into any of my AUs, with very rare exceptions. So if I made them a couple I simply wouldn't want to draw them and read the lewd comments that would follow them..😞"

I haven't thought about it yet actually... I guess for now it'll still happen somehow, but in a different situation. Instead of the whole bridge mishap happening while Starscream was resurrecting Skyquake, they'll be interrupting something else.

The kids will get caught in the shadow realm, but maybe they'll be alone there. It'll be lower stakes without a zombie chasing them in the shadow realm- but I prefer that over a dead Skyquake 💀

Oh- is that how they work? I always assumed/headcannoned that sparklings are made the same way humans are-

They do their spark merging thing- then there's a "carrier". Or the pregnant one I guess- then boom a sparkling. And I assumed that any bots that were carried by the same bot were siblings.

I didn't realize that this was... a fanon idea? That's what I was gonna do for my AU.. I thought it was at least canon to the comics-

If this is the case-- that its totally fanon-- then I have no idea how siblings work aside from twins :(

Nah, while I don't like my comics being taken and translated without my permission, that's not why I draw some comics without dialogue.

Its a little hard to properly explain.. but it boils down to that I'm not super confident in my ability to write dialogue. And a lot of the time I think I can push a more emotional feel to a comic without the use of words. I just let the body language speak for itself and the reader can fill in the dialogue themselves. If that makes sense..?

As for your questions, I do intend for Soundwave to have a face under that visor. With Megatron probably being the only Decepticon today who's ever seen it, aside from his cassettes. As for what's underneath..? While I drew Soundwave's face somewhat normal looking for that post- it was just for the meme. I imagine my Soundwave's face will be much different.

Whether its disfigured and riddled with scars, or just strange and different like Shockwaves, it'll be spooky in some way for sure.

Now for his armor, I'm doing away with the living armor thing, yeah. I want Lazerbeak, Buzzsaw and Ravage to look and feel like real Cybertronian animals that have been trained to serve Soundwave. Not a living armor gimmick that look identical to Soundwave.

Doodle of Night Terror (with mask) (I had to draw it physically because my phone had a hole in its screen)

I am going give a short description to help understand the terrible doodle I made

Night terror physically looks like his dad Nightmare supreme, but his goop is black and red, unlike Nightmare supreme, whose goop is black and white(talking about the outline of their goop that actually has color)

Nightmare terror wears

Black suit with golden buttons

black pants alongside a white belt that has a gold buckle

A red tie

Red gloves

A broken white mask that covers his whole face other than one of his eyes

I am going to explain why he dresses up like this now it's because he's not only copying how his father looks (He wears anything that looks closely to what his dad Nightmare supreme wears ) but he wears the mask and gloves because he can't control his goopy so without the mask and gloves his head and arms would keep felling off (the black stuff coming out of the eye socket of the mask is just the goop covering his left eye leaking out of the mask)

This dooble is more clear on what he is wearing, but just to say some things, he wears a baggy pant version of Killer's shorts, black slippers, and yes, one of his hands is black

(I couldn't draw his soul, but it's in a magic yellow cage that he carries around . You can just not draw it if you want)

Also, funfact about salesmen killer he uses a revolver(like the salesmen in squid games) instead of Killer's classic knife

For a few other characters i actually had an artist draw them already (the guy i reblog the art of his character Error 4X4, check him out. He makes epic art and also made my poster of meet the nulls)

Error Prime and I just want to correct something here as there was some confusion the first time he drew it, but Error Prime wears a black pea coat that's the inside of the collar is yellow along with Error Prime wearing the chains hanging off his neck like how people wear gold chains (everything that is bold is the correction)

Yes, crowns in these forms can speak, even without a mouth, LIKE BILL CIPHER (my ref for them), and deform eyes into a mouth, not only eyes too...in general, complete madness

- Serenity was first created in 2019/2020. Back then, she was actually my ninjasona (even though she didn’t really look anything close to me and most things about her was completely different from me but hey, nothing wrong with some fun, right?) and her ninja design looked closer to Randy’s but with a few different details and a jacket with a hood and everything.

- Her last name was Bells instead of Peterson and she was one of the past ninjas before Randy. I even gave her random siblings who I never drew because they weren’t even that important, no names, nothing. Just some shit I randomly threw in there. Her backstory was different from how it is now, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows at the end of it though….what do I mean? Well.. let’s just say, her ninja journey ended in tragedy.

Her old first ever design and ref!

(Yes, this really is it!! This was made in the app called sketch instead of ibis paint years ago! On a oldass tablet too instead of the iPad I have now!… How do I even still have this? Well.. I just found it while looking through some old shit in old chats on discord lolololol-)

(She was actually drawn on a laptop first in ms paint before on the old tablet, both devices that I don’t have anymore :’).. oh well, the old tablet was completely broken at that time anyway)

- btw, the whole wearing the jacket while having the suit on idea may or may have not been kinda inspired by the way Spider verse Miles did it but without the shorts and shoes. I thought it would be cool-

- later on, I made her just be an oc instead, along with a redesign later on and finally her own civilian/normal attire and form. Now she no longer was just one of the past ninjas or whatever, she was a ninja of her own in the same year as Randy! Along with her own villain and all that stuff!

Tho the redesign ofc wasn’t the current one she has now, it was a bit more different! Unfortunately I don’t really have like an actual picture of it buuut I went on to try finding one old drawing of her that could show it perfectly. (I used to have ALOT art of her but due to something in the past, I lost them all :’’)…)

I did find one that did soooo..here ya go! Along with the first old ass drawing of her normal form!

- I DO like the part of the first old ref where it says that she almost put a lot of kitty stickers on the Nomicon once, that is honestly cute, I might still keep that part as canon.. with her own Nomicon or/and also Randy’s? Idk…eheh.

- Serenity was my first ever Rc9gn ninja oc.. well exactly not really. When I say that, I don’t mean like she is the FIRST ever Rc9gn oc I have ever made in my entire life! Oh no!… My ACTUAL first ever rc9gn oc was a whole other girl made back when I was a kid and had first watched the show in my childhood… (I can talk about that said old first oc if anyone’s interested-)

What I actually mean by that is that Serenity is the first rc9gn ninja OC I have made AFTER not having one for so many years later on.. before Seth, Esther and the rest, SHE was the one ninja to be created first. She has gone through lots of changes since then and man, has she grown.

That’s the main reason why she means a lot to me. If it weren’t for her existence, none of my other ninja ocs would have ever existed.

Grimlock's dumbass visor took me the most because obviously the expression. But I'm very proud of their looks, I was very focus on who would learn towards which parents.

As you can tell, Grimlock obviously leans way more into Megatron aka Mini-Megs like I said. Swoop leans a bit more into Optimus but a twig because I can 💯 see the siblings making fun of his ass for being a stick like his brothers didn't take his fucking mass 😭 while Snarl is idk a mix of the two.

I even got another one of Swoop but with a PONYTAIL that I really like bc ref/foreshadowing to the dinohelm. Nehehe I got more notes on them and their personalities before but imma put in a separate ask ENHEHEHEHE

This time of the three DCAs! Yes, because they’re also in this AU :D

I won’t say much about them because I don’t want to spoil everything, but what you need to know is that Sun, Moon and Equinox (the ruin Eclipse) are brothers in this AU, they have separate bodies and the story takes place after the Pizzaplex was burnt down…and that’s it, I won’t say anything else about the story, so you’ll have to wait until I start posting the comic to find out more-

I don’t know why I drew him so big in the picture, but he was the first one I did-

If you’re wondering why I gave Sun glasses it’s because he wasn’t built with night vision in this AU, so he struggles to see in the dark and needs glasses, unlike Moon who can see well in the dark but is extremely sensitive to the light

This one is by far my favorite design for this AU, I don’t know why I like it so much-

But anyways, if you’re wondering why in this AU Eclipse is called Equinox, it’s because of another character that will get introduced later on (if you saw the last post then you might already know which one it is, but I won’t give any explanation)

And unlike his brothers, he doesn’t have problems with seeing in the dark or with bright lights, getting envied by both of them for this

Last but not least, Moon :P

As I said before, he is sensitive to the light, so if there’s too much light he’ll wear sunglasses (as shown in the drawing), I also wanted to give him a blanket cape because I feel like he would be the type to wrap himself in one of those if he was uncomfortable or just to snuggle under it (though he would never admit something like that)

That’s all, I didn’t make any doodles this time because I’ve been focusing more on writing the script for the comic, I don’t know when I’ll post the first part of the comic but it’ll have something like 8 or 10 panels (I’ll try to make every part around this number of panels), so I hope you’re looking forward to that and that you’ll like the story, even if it’s going to be my first fan comic ever (without counting the discontinued Doll AU comic, which is still being reworked)
