A little snippet from Sonic Quest 2. But it got me wondering: where exactly did Eggman get the idea for the Death Egg, and what did he actually intend to use it for? (In the games, I mean.)
In Sonic 2, we only see a couple of hallways where the battle takes place. In 3&K, we finally get a look at the whole thing, and I gotta admit, it's IMPRESSIVE.
I don't recall if we see it again before Forces, but by then, it's a massive orbiting space station complete with a prison and (presumably) a torture chamber.
Best I can tell is that it's some kind of robot factory, and it does have some good firepower, because Eggy blew up Lava Reef with it. Not sure, but this might be where Metal was born, so to speak, given that Silver Sonic was probably built on the Death Egg (not to mention the Death Egg Robot and Big Arms). Also, it's clear from 3&K that Eggman was planning on stealing all the Super Emeralds and M.E. and, no doubt, keeping them on the Death Egg, probably to power the thing and make Eggman invincible. And... who knows? Make the entire world bow at his feet by creating a laser capable of destroying the planet? I mean, the thing was named after the Death Star, so this seems like a logical assumption to me.
But wait a second... a giant, orbiting space station with a planet-destroying laser, all built by one supergenius named Robotnik, who also manufactured a "fake" hedgehog and housed one or more Emeralds on board to power his scientific endeavors.
Gee, I can't figure why all this sounds so familiar.
Guess the egg don't roll far from the nest, eh, Professor?
