I'm still processing what I just fucking witnessed last night. Absolutely unbelievable and a top 10 show, hands down. So beyond grateful to have been there, truly a once-in-a-lifetime performance.

Calling fellow metalheads!
Since so far I've only mentioned it as a sidenote as a part of another post, I figured I'd make a separate one
Are you a metalhead? Do you like clicking boxes and/or talking about metal?
Behold:
It'd help a lot if you could answer this short survey (anonymous, 12 questions, mainly multiple choice) for my college research project
The survey will be open for at most two weeks. My project is due in early May so I need time to be able to actually write up my research.
Since my project is specifically about metal fans, I can't just send it out to my fellow college students and friends like other students have done, which is why I need y'all to help me out if you have a minute or two to spare
Thanks!

I find it funny when metal elitists try to diss ST by calling it pop music (omg is that imagine dragons :0)
like, metal gatekeeper incorrectly assigns a genre to a particular artist or band, then insists they're an infallible source of knowledge and authority within their preferred genre. brother you apparently can't even differentiate alt metal from top 40 radio music. what makes you think I trust your opinion on anything?

“artists just don’t start from the ground up like they used to anymore:(” yeah the do actually you just have to actually find and support up and coming artists and bands. and your local live music venues. buy their merch. stream their music. tell your friends about it. post about it on your socials and follow them on theirs. if you wanna find up and coming artists or bands, find them and help them come up!!

The fact that Sleep Token has a line in one of their songs about rose gold chains and sells no rose gold jewelry as merch? A crime.

THIS THURSDAY (5/22) at 8PM EDT on twitch.tv/funknwaffleslive: My band Mosaic Mind will be performing at Funk 'n Waffles in Syracuse, NY! If you're in the area, we would love to see you there. If not, Funk 'n Waffles will be livestreaming the show at the link above. (I'll also be playing with the headliner, Chris LeFever Band, so stick around for that after we finish our set!)
BUT IAN, WHAT'S MOSAIC MIND?
Mosaic Mind is an alt/prog rock band from Central New York writing original music influenced by everything from Foo Fighters to Pink Floyd. You can hear demos of our songs on our SoundCloud (I'm aware of the current SoundCloud situation; based on the statement from them at the end of the article, as far as I know, our stuff is safe at the moment), and you can find all of our social media at our Linktree.
We are currently working on our first album! It's all recorded, and we're hoping to release it later this year, but we're still working through the mixing/mastering. If you'd like to help support us finishing the album, you can:
Leave us a tip on our Ko-fi!
Purchase any of my music on Bandcamp and include the message "Go Mosaic Mind!": Ian Doherty | Ramshki Alley
Spread the word by reblogging!
If you've made it this far, thanks for reading. And if you decide to check us out, either through our SoundCloud or the livestream on Thursday, I hope you enjoy!

Needing all the word-of-mouth it can get, deserving all the attention it might, Kill the TV by Gene Pool is a proudly engrossing little album. Each track knows how to hit, just as the album itself knows how to line them up and give you the best experience in linear order, making it a real close race as to which is greater, the whole or the sum of its parts. The attention given to complex song structure ensures the quality of execution given to the high-end track lengths, culminating, of course, into a dip into the stylings of prog rock I love so much with What Have You Done?. Emotive, despondent vocals abound if that's your thing, with the dueting style utilized giving much of the album a sing-along quality, almost like what you'd get from mainstream arena rock without being near and a half as straightforward. It's the perfect length where I can pick out each individual track past Shed as something I'd want to listen to on its own, at every & any time, while totaling to a respectable, if humble, album length in the end, for all those "setting a CD to play" purposes people find themselves with.

🎵 SONG-TO-GO 🎵
Friday is here, so I've got another Song-To-Go poll hot n' ready to go for you!
If you're new, hello and welcome! Song-To-Go is a weekly song poll released every Friday where I present you with new, lesser-known songs to listen to while you scroll.
As always, choose songs based on the 30-second Spotify snippets if you don’t know them (and I try to make sure there’s always something you won’t know). If you like what you hear, go listen to the full songs, they’re yours to carry along on your scroll!
[last week’s poll, playlist of everything so far (in order) and other/future picks]
This week, I’ve picked some Cure-inspired new wave from India that I’ve been digging all year, a Montreal synthpop trio that actually came out of cult favourite band Caveboy, a young but incredible new jazzy Canadian alt rock band (broken up already sadly), American goth rock that iirc I found through tumblr so you might already know her. We’ve also got a punk rock band whose sense of justice is shaped by the fact that their singer is still and was an NHS doctor during the pandemic, and the hip hop musician Hyphen, who is opening for Bob Vylan (another recommendation!) on their UK tour so go catch him live.
Happy listening! Pass it on and let me know in the tags what you liked this week :) I’ll be back with another next Friday!
