FAQ
How is the Mad Cave edition different from the 2016 Kickstarter omnibus? The Mad Cave edition is totally different (night and day, sun and moon) from what was printed for the 2016 Kickstarter – the script was rewritten, every page was redrawn, and even the trim size has changed. Vol. 1 is a reboot of the omnibus, while Vol. 2 covers Zarco and Vols. 3 and 4 will be all-new material!
Will the Mad Cave edition be published internationally, or possible to order internationally?  This is really important to me! I’m making moves to have it localized––my agent has a lot of experience in this area––but Mad Cave has world rights and it’s ultimately up to them. In the interim, it should be possible to order the US edition internationally because it will be distributed through mainstream channels via Simon&Schuster (Amazon, B&N, Bookshop.org, etc).
You can follow me for further updates on bsky.
The new comic has already been called “postmodernist,” “cinematic,” “breathtaking,” and “a generational achievement” so I really hope you check it out!!
Thank you!

I mean this in good faith I promise- does it not violate strike rules for you to be posting on tumblr about your work? Of course you're proud of it and want to promote it but Amazon is definitely a struck company, and if influencers reviewing the show would count as crossing the picket line, engaging with Fandom on social media would seem very much like promotional work.
The answer to your question is at the WGA FAQs. I've refused to do any mainstream media, TV, panels etc at Amazon's request, but I'm allowed to talk about my own projects on my own social media, especially on an Internet backwater like Tumblr.

HELLO OTHERKIN/THERIANS/ALTERHUMANS/NONHUMANS/OTHERLINKERS/OTHERPAW!! DO YOU WANT TO BUY AN ETHICAL TAIL BUT DON'T KNOW WHERE? IM HERE TO GIVE YOU TIPS!
Okay I'll stop talking in caps now, but here you have my tail guide for any and all people who just want a tail!
Cruel fur farms treat their animals badly, and it's best to avoid them. Here are some tips on how to spot cruel farms from the ethically sourced ones! (Most tips from here!)
Disclaimer: I would only be wary of items if they show more than 2 of these signs. Just do research before you buy!
Signs that indicate a cruel source:
- Sold/Sourced from Asia (Asia has bad animal cruelty laws, here's a list per country on how good their animal rights are)
- From Wish, AliExpress, Amazon, Temu or EBay (Even the 'faux fur' ones can be real and cruel)
- If they use stock photos
- Asian lobster clams (This does not always indicate cruelty)
- If they look thin, small, and generally unhealthy
- Any usage of 'mink farms' in desc.
- If they are bleached or colored
- If the price is low (Under 20-25)
- No info about source (Always ask the seller if you're not sure)
Signs that indicate ethical source:
- Scraps that were being thrown away otherwise (Should be in item description or FAQ)
- Lived long and happy lives (Item description or FAQ)
- Thick, healthy tails
- Population control/Legal hunters (With a permit)
Now I'll show a few Etsy shops I've confirmed to be Ethically sourced!

Hey I saw your post about the puffy battery and my 3DS has that (it’s starting to crack the case). I knew it was affecting the battery life but I didn’t know that it was dangerous. How would you go about repairing/replacing this?
ok this is going on my FAQ after this. possibly in my pinned post.
Contact your local *non emergency* number and ask them how to dispose of a puffy lithium ion battery. Follow their instructions.
To remove the battery from the case (which is the best thing to do in that situation) follow the instructions linked in my pinned post "for physical 3DS issues" (https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Nintendo_Handheld_Console)
Be as careful as possible to NOT puncture the battery.
for getting a replacement, just look at the number on your 3DS's battery and type that into amazon. Should be plenty of results, all around $10~$20 USD and they should work perfectly fine. check the reviews if you are worried.
Again, if you have any battery that is bending or breaking the case, is is a legitimate explosion hazard. That battery can explode into a fiery ball of toxic gas. It is in your best interest to dispose of it as soon as possible.
this also goes for batteries inside of ANY electronic device. Switch batteries, macbook batteries, phone batteries, electric bike batteries are also examples of lithium ion batteries that get a lot of usage and often can get overcharged.

Behold! My first (and probaby prettiest) miku figure :3 I want to buy more but my mom will only let me order off of amazon so if you have any cute and somewhat cheap recommendations it would be appreciated
(*´︶`*)
Firstly, amazing first choice! She is really pretty....purble by beloved truly the best color in general and for Miku 11/10 great pick
Regarding recommendations, I have a hard time picking based just off price (my idea of cheap vs yours is probably very different), so I have a buying guide in the FAQ found HERE that'll help you out a lot~
Be cautious when buying on Amazon, though, because people occasionally sell bootlegs there. Here's a handy paragraph on helping weed them out

ECHO OF THE LARKSPUR FAQ
Tumblr media
(Huggabots by @lochdandloaded)
WELCOME! To the Official Echo of the Larkspur FAQ! I've been getting a lot of the same questions so I figured I'd make and pin a FAQ for people
Q: What the heck is Echo of the Larkspur?
A: Echo of the Larkspur is a once-WTNV-fanfic turned stand alone Sci-fi/Romance/Mystery novel about a paranoid scientist and a snarky robot that have to solve a mystery that threatens their space colony. You can read the full blurb and first chapter here!
Q: When is it coming out?
A: Echo of the Larkspur is out now on Amazon! You can buy it here!
Q: I want it in paperback and/or hardcover but Amazon won't let me preorder it!
A: That's because Amazon is stupid and doesn't let people preorder physical copies. The hardcover and paperback versions will be on sale on July 26th.
Q: I hate Amazon and rightfully so! Can I get it anywhere else?
A: Echo of the Larkspur will be available on other platforms like B&N, Smashwords, Kobo and Itch.io on October 22nd.
Q: Didn't a published male author tell you some crazy shit about your novel?
A: Oh boy, did he!
Q: When the novel comes out is it okay if I make fan art/fanfic of it?
A: Go right ahead! All I ask is you keep the spoilers out of it until after Oct 22nd. Also while I would love to see any fan art, please keep in mind I legally can't read fan fic of it. I will have to admire it from a distance.
Q: What is the best way to support you and your novel?
A: The best way is to, of course, buy my book! Then I ask you leave an honest review on Goodreads/Amazon/Bookthreads/Booktok/Whatever other websites are out there. Also be sure to tell people about it, as I depend on word of mouth to get the word out!
Q: What the hell is a Huggabot anyway?
A: A Huggabot is Alphatek's newest line of therapy robots! Huggabots are trained to practice over twelve different types of therapy while also having great features like reminding you to eat, drink, bathe, and give various other affirmations throughout the day! Huggabots are also trained in the best therapy of all: HUG THERAPY!
(NOTE: HUG THERAPY IS NOT A LEGALLY RECOGNIZED TYPE OF THERAPY IN THE INNER OR OUTER SOL COLONIES)

My partner and I are upgrading from a 10+ year old Amazon bed in a box and your FAQ has been so helpful, I just wanted to say thank you! We've settled on a Sealy queen and I'm really looking forward to the change
Congrats!! Don’t forget it might suck at first and walking or crawling on a new bed helps make it suck less faster.

The big book FAQ for Derins books
I've been asked all of these questions so very many times, so here's the answers.
Can I print out and hand bind your story?
What you do with my story in your own damn house is none of my business. Buy the ebook and hand bind it if you want (it's probably cheaper than buying the print book, and I make more money on ebook sales, so win-win). Painstakingly copy and paste and edit the chapters for free from the free online version, if you prefer. So long as you're not selling copies to people, what you do with the book when it's yours is your business.
Send me photos if you want. I've seen some rad homebound copies of my stories and I want to see more. You guys are so creative.
Can I translate your story to another language for a school assignment/personal project?
Yes.
Can I make an audio version of your story and post it online?
So long as you link back to the original text version, yes.
Where is the first TTOU book available in print?
It's available in these places. It will be available through Ingram and Amazon's various networks, so expect it to show up in more digital storefronts over the next week or so. Or your local bookstore can very likely order it in for you, if you ask them.
Will the free version of TTOU stay online?
Same as Curse Words, I will not be taking down the unedited first draft that's currently online any time soon. However, I also won't be putting any special effort into maintaining existing links to it.
If I want to give you the largest royalty cut, which version of your book should I buy?
Buy whichever version is most convenient for you. The ebook and print versions exist because readers asked for them to exist, not because I expect to make money from them.
I make the most from the ebook versions, particularly if you buy through Smashwords, but the best way to support me is through ko-fi, where you can get advance chapters for the books I'm currently writing, not through book purchasing.
Your cheapest option for the books, paperback and ebook, is through my ko-fi shop, where distributor markups can be avoided. But paperback supplies are currently very limited via this method.
What really happened at the end of Copy <|> Paste?
I said everything I want to say in the story itself.
What is [fictional character or society]'s opinion/future/history/custom with regard to --
See previous answer.
Are any of your books going to be released as audiobooks?
Probably not. Fairly compensating audiobooks readers is very expensive and I won't be making AI versions.
When will the Curse Words books be sold in print?
When the art for them is ready.
What's your opinion on [latest drama or scandal surrounding a different writer]?
This is probably the first I'm hearing of it, I have no relevant information about the issue to share with you.
Should I message you about typos found in the free online drafts of your work?
You can if you want to, but if the typo doesn't interfere with story clarity, I'm probably not going to bother with it until it's time to edit the story for print.

If you’ve rented an apartment in the US in the past several years, you may have had the sense that the game was rigged: Prices creep up not only at your building but at others throughout the city, seemingly in lockstep. A new civil lawsuit brought by the US Department of Justice today alleges that in many cases it’s not just in your head—and that a single company’s algorithm is to blame.
That company is RealPage, a Texas-based firm that provides commercial revenue management software for landlords. In other words, it helps set the prices of apartments. But it does so, the DOJ alleges in its lawsuit, by effectively helping its clients cheat; landlords feed rental rate and lease terms into the system, and the RealPage algorithm in turn spits out a suggested price that enables coordination and hinders competition.
“By feeding sensitive data into a sophisticated algorithm powered by artificial intelligence, RealPage has found a modern way to violate a century-old law through systematic coordination of rental housing prices,” deputy attorney general Lisa Monaco said in a statement.
RealPage’s reach is broad. It controls 80 percent of the market for software of its kind, which in turn is used to set prices of around 3 million units across the country, according to the DOJ. It already faces multiple lawsuits, including one from the state of Arizona and another in Washington, DC, where RealPage software is allegedly used to price more than 90 percent of units in large apartment buildings. RealPage’s algorithmic pricing first gained broader attention when a 2022 ProPublica investigation detailed how the company’s YieldStar software works.
The DOJ civil lawsuit, which was joined by the attorneys general of eight states, is a significant escalation in legal action against the company. It’s also a first for the DOJ, according to officials speaking on background during a call to discuss the complaint. While the government had previously filed criminal charges against an Amazon seller for algorithm-enabled price-fixing, this is the first civil action in which the algorithm itself, the Justice Department official says, was effectively the means of the violation.
The complaint itself quotes RealPage executives allegedly acknowledging anticompetitive aspects of its product. “There is greater good in everybody succeeding versus essentially trying to compete against one another in a way that actually keeps the entire industry down,” one RealPage executive allegedly wrote.
RealPage has repeatedly denied any allegations of antitrust violations, going so far as to publish a six-page digital pamphlet that claims to tell “the Real Story” about its products, along with an extensive FAQ page on a dedicated public policy website. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment. “Attacks on the industry’s revenue management are based on demonstrably false information,” one section of that site reads. “RealPage revenue management software benefits both housing providers and residents.”
“We are disappointed that, after multiple years of education and cooperation on the antitrust matters concerning RealPage, the DOJ has chosen this moment to pursue a lawsuit that seeks to scapegoat pro-competitive technology that has been used responsibly for years,” said Jennifer Bowcock, senior vice president of communications and creative at RealPage, in an emailed statement. “RealPage’s revenue management software is purposely built to be legally compliant, and we have a long history of working constructively with the DOJ to show that."
The DOJ disagrees. “Algorithms don’t exist in a law-free zone,” said Monaco in a press conference to discuss the case. “Training a machine to break the law is still breaking the law.”
In this case, the complaint alleges that those algorithms consistently drove rental prices upward. “RealPage’s software tends to maximize price increases, minimize price decreases, and maximize landlords’ pricing power,” said the DOJ in a press release. RealPage also doesn’t just recommend prices; in many cases, it actively sets them.
“RealPage actively polices landlords’ compliance with those recommendations,” said US attorney general Merrick Garland in today’s press conference. “A large number of landlords effectively agree to outsource their pricing decisions to RealPage by using an ‘auto-accept’ setting that effectively permits RealPage to determine the price a renter will pay.”
The DOJ also claims RealPage has created a “self-reinforcing feedback loop” with its data intake and pricing recommendations structure that also gives it an alleged monopoly in the apartment revenue management software industry. Any competitor who plays by the rules, the DOJ claims, is at a distinct disadvantage.
The Justice Department has spent the past several years staffing up with technologists and data scientists, better enabling them to “interrogate the code,” as multiple officials described the investigative process. While this is the first major algorithmic collusion case, DOJ officials suggested it would be far from the last.
