Randy’s Collection of space warships
The Evolution of Sky and Space Travel: A Journey Through Time and Space Introduction Since the dawn of human civilization, the desire to explore beyond the familiar horizons has been an intrinsic part of human nature. Initially confined to terrestrial domains, humans have always been fascinated by the skies and stars, seeking to unravel their mysteries. This fascination evolved into tangible…

I made the mistake of debunking an ancient aliens thing on a relative's Facebook, and now it throws them at me all the time.
Tumblr media
This is the first time I've found one actively mocking it's intended audience, or at least accidentally creating a bizarre editorial cartoon.
Anyway, I thought Tumblr would want to adopt Giuseppe here.

Gotten a few asks about this so let me clarify:
Atlantis the Lost Empire is NOT Nazi propaganda nor is it an endorsement of Nazi beliefs.
It's another example of a piece of media that has taken inspiration from a conspiracy theory which unfortunately has ties to the Nazis' obsession with proving their bonkers Aryan race theory.
The Nazis were obsessed with finding and creating ANY sort of historical/traditional link to validate their agenda, no matter how utterly ridiculous or entirely separate from reality that link was. They were obsessed with the mystical and the occult. Pseudo-science and pseudo-archaeology were their literal bread and butter.
In this instance, Plato's story of a sunken ancient city is not special for being co-opted for the Nazi's purposes. What has lead Atlantis to becoming a popular conspiracy theory in modern times is due in part to the steady popularization of pseudo-science as well as bad faith actors promoting a racist conspiracy theory as genuine fact.
The majority of conspiracy theories you hear about today actually have roots in fiction. For example, the Hollow Earth conspiracy theory finds it's origins from science fiction novels dating back to the 1800s. The Philadelphia Project can also trace its origins to a UFO writer who claims he was receiving secret confidential intel from a former US mariner. And yet there are are people who genuinely believe there is a secret world hidden in the center of the earth and that the US government was experimenting with and succeeded in creating a portal to another dimension.
So is the case with Atlantis. Atlantis: The Antediluvian World was written by Ignatius Donnelly in 1882 as a means to express his desires for a populist government and world. He was extremely misguided in his belief that Plato's story was factual and he employed the use of hyperdiffusion-a popular method used in countless conspiracy theories-to argue that all ancient societies were basically all descended from one even more ancient people.
Or in the Nazi's own terms: "An ancient master race."
Bad actors like Graham Hancock and Ancient Aliens further popularized the Nazi's conspiracy theory (as well as many others) and Donnelly's books by spreading mass disinformation across a global scale and we are all suffering for it.
As I've already stated before, Atlantis the Lost Empire takes superficial inspiration from the conspiracy theory in the same way that Stranger Things takes inspiration from the Montauk Project. Many popular sci-fi films, tv shows, books, and video games are littered with references and nods to conspiracy theories. Everything from Men in Black to The X Files to the SCP Foundation.
If you are interested in seeing how convincing conspiracy theories can get and their very real ability to destroy actual lives, I recommend watching American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders. It perfectly showcases how conspiracy theories can suck you in and how people can easily take advantage of you once they break down your ability to distinguish fiction from reality.
My only caveat with the documentary is that I really wish the creators had emphasized even more plainly to the audience that the Octopus Murders is an actual conspiracy theory instead of leaving the question somewhat open ended. Especially in regards to Danny Casolaro's death.
I would also highly recommend watching Milo Rossi aka miniminuteman's videos as his channel is dedicated solely to debunking various archaeological conspiracy theories as well as providing fascinating education on a variety of historical topics. I really cannot overstate how wonderful his Awful Archaeology series is.
I'm going to link a few of my favorites here:
youtube
This is the first of a multiseries debunking Graham Hancock's Ancient Apocalypse series.
youtube
This is Part 1 of 2 of him debunking one of the most notorious TikTokers who makes a living off of spreading mass disinformation.
I would be remiss not to mention Atun-Shei Film's amazing channel as well as Lady of the Library.
youtube
youtube
youtube
I would also recommend Kaz Rowe's channel as they provide stellar information on a wide variery of historical topics.
youtube
youtube
Tldr; Atlantis the Lost Empire and the films creators' did not set out to promote Nazi beliefs. They simply took inspiration from a popular conspiracy theory and made it something entirely unique and separate from the Aryan race agenda.

Thoughts on that kids show from the 2010s that changed the course of my life:
So, season 1 of Steven universe is really clever, because it shows the world from the perspective of a child in such an effective way. For example, the plot.
The viewers become aware of homeworld as a threat in ocean gem, but the crystal gems (other than Steven) know homeworld is coming from episode 2.
The red eye is the first thing homeworld does to check on earth, and the crystal gems are *powerless* to destroy it until the laser light canon is used (and that's *old* gem tech, not even the new stuff!)
In serious Steven, Coach Steven, and Steven's lion the gems are actively working to dismantle structures they had previously left untouched for thousands of years. Why? In case the diamonds try to use them.
Even after lapis' two parter the extent of why and how the gems are preparing for homeworld to attack isn't spelled out.
Pearl is trying to *escape* just like lapis did in Space Race, she knows it's possible... She knows if they leave earth they can be safe. Warp tour shows more explicitly that homeworld was already coming before lapis left, that even though she was Steven's introduction to the concept, homeworld was already interested in earth for other reasons. In rose's scabbard, they're clearly cleaning up the battlefield to keep extra weapons out of homeworld's hands, as it happens right between two major homeworld episodes, and just barely before the finale itself. Steven may not have known homeworld gems were coming for them, but the crystal gems did, the message only told them just how little time they had to prepare for it.
When you're watching Steven Universe for the first time, all this context slips past, you don't consider the reasons for the crystal gems going on certain missions, because the viewer doesn't have the information to even realize there was anything to consider (because the crystal gems are obviously keeping that info from Steven early on). Only on a rewatch does the exact level of urgency weigh in on the viewer, only when looking back do they realize exactly how much danger Steven was in even in the first season. It's a really clever set of details.

Tumblr media
@weirdscience0113 enjoy
#I had sleep paralysis as a kid a lot#I would hallucinate the grey aliens from that like ancient aliens conspiracy show#My dad would watch it to make fun of the guy because he loves sience and likes making fun of conspiracy theories#He would make fun of the main guy’s hair#But like they would show shitty renditions of grey aliens a lot and it would scare me because they looked like what I would hallucinate#During sleep paralysis#And whenever I told my dad about it he and mom would go ‘it’s all in your head’#Because they thought I was just having normal night terrors like usual but no it was sleep paralysis#And I didn’t know what was happening because I was like 7 so I was just really afraid and paranoid of imahes of grey aliens#I think part of it was also that movie with the kid’s mom getting abducted by martians and he goes to mars to save her#I forgot the name of that movie but it also scared me as a child and probably played a part in the sleep paralysis#In hindsight I think this is really funny#Images of grey aliens no longer scare me lmao and I don’t have sleep paralysis no more to my knowledge because I sleep on my stomach now#I also we pull sleepwalk a lot and whenever I would get too paranoid to sleep I would sneak into my parents room and watch them sleep until#I felt better or I would try and sleep on the floor of their bedroom#They had to put a baby gate up because I would sleepwalk and they didn’t want me to fall down the stairs or like escape the house in my sle#How you enjoyed hearing about my childhood trauma lol#Also when I was little (aparently this lasted for a while though like until I was 12) I was convinced I was going to move to China for some#Reason. I really liked the show ni-hao ki-lan when I was really little so I think that’s why??? It’s funny in hindsight because oh my god#Now that I am not a dumb child I do not want to live in China. Although now sometimes I will hear a mandarin word and know what it means an#Get really confused as to why the heck I know it#It’s because of ni-hao ki-lan lmao#I was a strange child

I guess many fans of both franchises or only sonic's may have noticed the similarity with the game mechanics and bosses but I think that it's not only in the sotc chapter but all the backwards trilogy that sonic has this "dimensional parallel" probably it's a canon event for different franchises to have the dark entity which I believe having an hive mind.

The insistence on reading aliens into other people's sacred traditions and myths and trying to shoehorn them into your current belief systems is actually fear consciousness at work. Why is that? Because when you do this, your heart is not open and prepared to experience something radically different from your present views. Instead, you are trying to capture and bottle up something you fundamentally don't understand so you can avoid having to genuinely expand your consciousness.

The Watchers
The Watchers' teachings to humans involved subjects beyond the scope or understanding of ancient people, such as astronomy, mathematics, metallurgy, medicine, and magic. Those with access to advanced science and technology could only have known these subjects.
– The offspring of the Watchers and human women were giants with physical features or abilities that were abnormal or supernatural. For example, they are said to have been very tall, to have six fingers and six toes, to have devoured all living things (including humans), and to have performed feats of strength or great violence.
– The ancient monuments and civilizations attributed to the Watchers' influence or intervention show signs of engineering or architectural skills that were beyond the capabilities or knowledge of ancient people. For example, they are said to have been built with huge stones that were cut or moved with precision and ease, to have aligned with celestial bodies or events, to have encoded mathematical or astronomical information, or to have served as portals or beacons for extraterrestrial contact.

I love how like 90% of “Ancient Alien™️” conspiracy theories are just obviously and easily disproven claims.
For example They will be like:
“There is an iron column in Delhi that is millennia old and has no rust wherever. Only aliens could of made this”
And then you look at the column in question and it has translatable writing on it giving you a good idea when it was built and that it was built by master foundries who also build a lot of other impressive shit we have on record. And more importantly it has FUCKING RUST ON IT!
Like you can’t just base your entire conspiracy theory on “this amazing thing has this quality” and the thing doesn’t even have that quality!
Another example I remember was they were arguing that humans couldn’t quarry stone into precise angles blocks using hand tools. The kicker. They were using a carpenters square (a hand tool) to prove how accurately cut the stone was, and the stone wasn’t even cut square! To add further salt to the wound of second hand idiocy, the archeological site they were in was an abandoned construction site. There was literally still the hand tools used to shake the stone at the site.

I was watching the history channel for some background noise and ancient aliens came on, and one of the guys on it was talking about some supposed alien technology said something like “it would be the height of arrogance to believe no other cultures can do something just because we can’t” and I couldn’t stop laughing at the irony like your entire show is based on the assumption that other cultures couldn’t have done something just because you can’t
