excuse the mega long rant in tags bc i geeked out perhaps a lil too much abt pkmn au but ourghghg.... we do not talk abt how i spent at least an hour writing all this out....

Alright so I kinda went ham on this and made full Pokemon teams for both my OCs AND the canon Tomb of Time cast. I’ll post them all here with some notes! Generally, I gave everyone a single legendary/mythical, and a couple have partner Pokemon that don’t battle, which are included in the corner of their trainer portraits.

Celebi is obvious; a time traveler needs a time traveling Pokemon! Max keeps them out in most circumstances.

Butterfree is a reference to the LiS butterfly. Pity there aren’t any blue butterfly Pokemon.

Clefable and Blissey are much like Max: rare and shy, but friendly when they trust you. Also pink.

Pink Deerling for the pink Jane Doe shirt Max typically wears in LiS.

Tinkaton, again, is much like Max: pink and cute, but will absolutely wreck your shit if given cause (Remember how she almost shot Frank? Imagine if she’d had a hammer instead of a gun.)

Shaymin is admittedly influenced by TToT Chloe’s mother being Persephone, but I think Chloe would really bond with the little guy. They would also be kept out in most circumstances and play with Max’s Celebi.

Absol can sense impending disasters. I imagine Chloe sought hers out in the wake of William’s accident.

Cloyster because… Well, look at it.

Her Persian’s name is Bongo, after her childhood cat.

Ferrothorn and Roserade are again due to TToT Chloe’s Persephone parentage. Ferrothorn specifically refers to the brambles surrounding her mother’s grove at Camp Half-Blood (thanks to @bulletbilltime for that suggestion among others!)

TToT Rachel is a child of Dionysus, and being there aren’t many Pokemon themed around drinking, I reached for other elements of her character. Solgaleo and Pyroar are due to her assertions of being a proud Leo (don’t call her out on that)

Arcanine and Flareon for the many associations between Rachel’s character and fire. Flareon is kept out while traveling.

Zoroark for canon Rachel’s deception and masking, and TToT Rachel’s skill with illusions.

Gardevoir for her outward poise and grace that she shows to all but those closest to her.

I don’t have much to say about Gideon’s lineup, because Zacian, Aegislash, and Sirfetch’d really just boil down to “swords.” Girl loves her swords.

Steelix and Aggron for some more tough and strong steel types. You could argue they have some swordlike features on them.

Golem because canon Gideon grew up in a hole in the ground (specifically on Pluto but there’s not a Plutonian regional variant of Golem yet so sue me)

Harrow has a partner Cubone that doesn’t battle, both because bones, and she empathizes with mourning a mother you never really knew.

Darkrai for the nightmare element; Harrow is no stranger to frequent nightmares.

Houndstone, Spiritomb, and Cofagrigus for the tomb motifs. Spiritomb is particularly appropriate due to it being an amalgamation of souls.

Duskull is left unevolved because its later forms lose the bone motif.

Banette is formed by feelings of abandonment, which… Yeah.

Frieda, as a daughter of Kronos, gets the other time themed legendary in Dialga.

Corviknight and Bisharp represent her martial skill as a warrior; Bisharp in particular for the twin swords she wields.

Empoleon, Nidoqueen, and Vespiquen are straightforward references to her position as Queen of the demititans. Type wise they mean that she probably has the most varied team of the demititans.

I have even less to say about Hunter’s lineup than I did Gideon’s, because they all boil down to being fighters. He probably uses the humanoids for sparring partners.

Terrakion, Machamp, Hariyama, and Conkledurr are noted for their extreme endurance, a trait he shares as a son of Atlas.

Incineroar and Lucario represent his use of combat magic to supplement his martial skill.

Maya’s team is psychics selected for intelligence to pair with her role as a mage/scholar. She rarely uses them for actual battles; instead they assist with her research.

Mewtwo and Alakazam are noted for their especially robust memories, a trait she shares as a favored daughter of Mnemosyne.

Meowstic and Hatterene pair well with her aloof and asocial temperament. Hatterene in particular helps keep unwanted visitors from disturbing her work.

Malamar for her manipulative side as one of the Queen’s Hands.

Delphox for the part of her that really wants to just burn something to ground every once in a while. (Rachel can relate.)

Pierce’s team took some thought, on account of most star/astronomy themed Pokemon being legendary. Of those, she gets Jirachi, as she’d find them adorable and keep them out in most cases.

Starmie, Minior and Gothitelle continue the star/astronomy theme, owing to her father being Krios, lord of stars and constellations.

Appletun because she’s a hobbyist cook, and makes a mean pie.

Escavalier because she’s a spear fighter, and it’s literally the only pokemon I could find that references any kind of polearm. Yeah I know its arms are lances and not spears but I took what I could get.

Siren has a partner Spheal that doesn’t fight, simply because she doesn’t want him getting hurt. His name is Blubby.

Her full team is water type owing to her father being Oceanus. Kyogre specifically represents the primal power of the deep ocean that is her birthright.

Milotic, Gorebyss, Lapras, and Primarina are chosen for their beauty and elegance, traits she prizes in herself.

Greninja refers to her dexterity and deadly skill with small blades.

Why am I suddenly bringing this up? Well... A friend recently dm'd me, asking of these characters and said how they miss hearing how happy I talk of these particular ocs, how I've always wanted to make a practice writing-base ask blog of them, and want to send these stinkers to others ask boxes just to faun over how my ocs interact with theirs ( and they meant these in particular because, uh... Well... I admittedly talk to this friend of how I'd imagine how others ocs interact with my ocs base on the asks I imagined -/////-. Can you tell that I obsess about this community but feel too shy about it? ) because this was brought back to me and even encouraged to try to give this idea another go ( This time not feel afraid ), I have just been overall debating about it ;;w;; If I do try it, I will at least need to fill up the main guild missing roles. Like... I don't have a guild leader to this story yet xd. I have yet to decide on species. Ofc the blog will focus on bipedal and anthros pwp. No ferals this time around! Okay here it is

Otacon:

Porygon-Z: In an MGS setting with Pokemon I like to think that AI expert Strangelove would’ve invented Porygon. Hal, either through his mother’s inheritance or just by being his own hacker self, got his own Porygon... but accidentally made it a Porygon-Z. He feels terrible about screwing it up but actually his Porygon-Z is very happy with itself!

Rotom: once again, a technological Pokemon.

Oricorio (Sensu Style): I have a long-running headcanon that Otacon inherited a bit of Strangelove’s digital necromancy and has a bit of psychic/medium sensitivity that never came up in the games. Oricorio is only ghost-type some of the time, when engaging in a specific dance- namely, the Japanese one. (Just like one of my Japanese animes!) Also, Hal needs a bird to match his sister. :)

Klink: It's a gear and it's metal.

Absol: Mistaken for bringers of destruction, Absol are actually excellent predictors of disasters. Perfect for a character who seems to bring death to everyone he loves...

Suicune: Okay, okay, so in an actual MGS/Pokemon setting crossover I don’t think Otacon would have a legendary, but here’s my reasoning anyway: Hal, and the whole Emmerich family, has a lot of water symbolism going on. Huey is cast to sea by Venom Snake, and later drowns in a pool. E.E.’s body is left behind to sink into the Hudson. (Hell, Strangelove even suffocates.) But! It’s not all bad. Hal himself saves the man he loves from a river. (Compare/contrast that to the river sequence from MGS3.) Hal takes his family’s legacy and purifies it into a force for good, just as Suicune purifies water with its steps. It fits perfectly!

Snake:

Houndoom: Snavid has dogs, Houndoom's a dog, it's perfect. OK, OK, there's a little more. Houndoom's Pokedex entries state, quite infamously, that the flames it breaths are mixed with poison, and that wounds caused by said flames never stop hurting. Basically, this represents Snake's scary ass super soldier side! (Also, keep an eye on that Fire typing, it will be relevant later)

Mightyena: Another doggo Pokemon. This one's a bit more straightforward in that it mostly represents Snake's 50 dogs. Mightyena are probably the most vanilla wolf/dog Pokemon, so it works.

Ekans: yeah okay it's Snake backwards that's it

Alolan Ninetails: "The reason it guides people all the way down to the mountain's base is that it wants them to hurry up and leave." This represents Snake's loner nature and retirement in Alaska.

Silvally: Okay, this one's the biggie. Silvally is the evolution of Type: Null, an artificial Pokemon. Type: Null was thrown away because it didn't live up to expectations, but if treated with love and care, it can evolve into Silvally, breaking through its restrictive headgear and flourishing as well as activating its RKS ability (inspired by Arceus aka PokeGod). So, yeah, it's like Solid Snake, the "inferior" product of Les Enfants Terribles, who nevertheless came out on top of his "superior" brother(s) due to his human connections... and also maybe being a Christ figure...

Entei: The legendary fire-type counterpart of Suicune that causes volcanic eruptions with every roar. If the Emmerichs have water symbolism, then of course the Snakes have fire symbolism. Big Boss associates himself with bombs and is haunted by a Man On Fire, and is eventually burned alive by Solid Snake. Solid Snake in turn has his face burned when trying to retrive Big Boss's body. His blood is literally unfreezable! So yeah, Entei compliments Otacon’s Suicune.

Raiden:

Bisharp: It’s a metal samurai what more do you need. (Also I came up with this before Kingambit existed; I still think Bisharp fits better since Raiden isn’t really a leader.)

Corviknight: Another Steel-type inspired by a historical warrior clad in metal; Raiden may have the power of God and anime on his side but he is a pasty ass white boy too, so he can have a medieval knight bird as well.

Luxray: This is the Pokemon embodiment of Snake’s line to Raiden, “you were the lightning in the rain.” I envision this as starting as a Shinx that might have been a parting gift to Raiden after the events of MGS2

Greninja: Raiden may have a samurai sword but he is, technically speaking, a cyborg ninja. Hence, ninja Pokemon.

Weavile: This was pure vibes. (And totally not Raiden’s fursona.)

Raikou: The logical choice to compliment Otacon’s Suicune and Snake’s Entei. Raikou doesn’t have the interesting flavor that the other two Legendary Beasts have- the most interesting thing it gets to do is knock out a communications tower in Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs. Which vaguely connects to MGS2′s themes of digital information and communication, but it’s kind of a stretch.

Emma:

Drifloon: Traditionally known for kidnapping children, there’s nonetheless a sidequest in Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon where a Drifloon protects a child from an ill-intentioned Drowzee. It’s a bit childish- it’s a balloon after all- but it’s a protector, and one that Emma sorely needs.

Decidueye: Not my idea; I can’t find it right now but there’s a brilliant piece of fanart floating around of a younger Emma with a Decidueye, clearly meant to represent her pet parrot.

Banette: The evolved form of Shuppett, a Pokemon formed from toys that are cast aside by children who grew up. I like to think that Hal had some anime plushie he left behind when he left home, that became a Shuppett that Emma took in. 

Porygon-2: A little sibling to Hal’s Porygon-Z. Emma was able to upgrade it once, but didn’t “screw it up” like Hal did his. Unless maybe it wants to adopt the form its older sibling did...?

Emma doesn’t have a complete team because she’s still relatively young, and far too focused on catching up to her brother to train up a full team.

Like, I really like Bisharp but I fucking hate Kingambit (aesthetically speaking) so I would either not have it in the team or not evolve it. I also like Forretress a lot but it's like extra weak to fire. I also like Solgaleo but Jirachi just has a special place in my heart after playing PMD. I wouldn't choose Lucario because I'm an annoying snob and I think Lucario is too popular. To be fair though I think Archaludon's design is not as cool as Duraludon but I don't hate it either. I really like Duraludon's Gigantamax.

So yeah my team if I were an elite four or champion would be Steelix because I fell in love with Steelix while playing Legends Arceus, Empoleon for the exact same reason, Corviknight because I think it's one of the best designs ever, Aggron because holy shit have you seen Aggron? It's just so cool. Metagross because og steel pseudo legendary and Archaludon because I like Duraludon and I like the type combination. It's probably a shitty team but I like it

Pokemon i think the dsmp characters should have, based on my memory of any and all events lol (not a drawing req! i just wanna share my thoughts)

Technoblade: this man def owns an Emboar. He used to be a massive battle royale star, now he's retired and looks after lost pokemon in his homebrew day care.

Philza: I get the vibes that he'd own a Honchkrow or Dragonite. Used to team with Techno, now he also helps with the homebrew day care.

Wilbur: Mismagius or Froslass for no other reason than I think Ghost would fit him. Philza gave him the pokemon bc he found it while doing whatever when it was a little baby.

Tommy: Cinderace, Gallade, or Zangoose. Cinderace bc he has those vibes, Gallade bc I think one would simply join him voluntarily, and Zangoose just bc I like Zangoose.

Tubbo: Skiddo/Gogoat from Schlatt (slowly places the headcanon of schlatt being a father figure to tubbo in ur hands), Snorunt bc that bitch was difficult as hell to catch in pokemon ranger, bouncing all over the place, smh. Probably grows to be part of the elite four.

Ranboo: Yanmask/Runefigarus. Mask gang. Occasionally helps Techno's day care.

Dream: this man owns a seviper for the pure reason tommy's Zangoose doesn't like seviper. Other than that, probably Empoleon. I think he might an Elite 4 who wants to be Champ, but only for the reason of being corrupt. The exile arc still happens, just slightly different.

BBH: Grimmsnarl or Mimikyu. Grimm bc i like Grimm, Mimikyu bc I think it fits. He's probably an admin for an evil team and incredibly joyous about it.

Schlatt: Machamp and Hydreigon, raised explicitly to be competitive. Some poison/steel type (Nidoking?) to even out the Dragon is weak to Fairy thing. They are all raised and given EV/IV training explicitly for battling. I'd consider him like Cynthia only bc he'd train all the time, but with the attitude of Giovanni. Probably the leader of an evil team. Gave Tubbo the Skiddo, uhhhhh, dunno why lol

Eret: i think he deserves a legendary. let's give them reshiram. perfect. chin up, monarch. your crown is sliding down. Miotic for normal pokemon.

Quackity: Armaldo or Bisharp, with the fancy coin item to give you more money after battles.

Purpled: Deoxys for the alien theme, Starmie also for the alien theme but less mythic pkmn.

Puffy: Wooloo and a Delphox. Floof,,,,, def a pirate theme bc it just fits Puffy. Probably an elite four member bc she deserves it. Valid. Incredible. Showstopper.

Niki: Lumineon, Raichu, and a Houndoom. She'll make it work. Probs a very end-game gym leader who 100% is incredibly hard to beat. Houndoom was probably a gift from Wilbur. Good for her. Amazing. Wonderful. Can sometimes be seen helping Techno--- they all get together for book club on Saturdays :]

ok so for Zato/Eddie's team I challenged myself to use only pokemon in the base pokedex for Paldea (becuase .Spain)

Crobat is the posterchild for 'evil baddie bad guy secretly has more than one dimension bc he cares about his critters' mixed in with the fact that zubat is a commonly derided pokemon for being annoying to encounter in some early games i think? My initial idea was to have them all be freind evolutions but then i found out there are. exactly 20 of those. and I wanted a wider range of choice than that. I could have picked umbreon, but I think zubat's status as an annoying pest makes the crobat's presence more meaningful. Of course you'd want to befreind an eevee! Do you want to befreind a bat that learns poison fang though? that turns into a bigger bat with cross poison?? you gotta be a certain kind of committed is what I'm trying to get at

This next one's cheating, techinally, but the imagery of Galarian Slowking being eaten alive by the shelder that was supposed to help it grow stronger was too relevant to pass up. Plus, regular slowking is available in paldea! It counts!! Trust me!!!!

Zoroark might be the most tenuous one to have here, mostly a nod to eddie being animated with copious amounts of shapeshifting; but also the pokedex states that it can use its illusions to delude large crowds of people, all to protect the weakest members of its pack.

I feel that Annihilape is the one that needs the least explanation. Yeah he died yeah he's still here yeah he's stronger than ever before so lets THROW DOWN-

Ceruledge is neck and neck with Zoroark for the pokemon i could swap out for something more fitting. My main thought with this one is that, of the two Charcadet evolutions, this one least resembles its old self. Also it attacks with hatred and sapping life force which is spooooooky.

Lastly, Bisharp. Why not evolve it, if this one's from paldea? Well, firstly, I feel like Kingambit is a much goofier design, and therefore is more of a pick for a Slayer team. Loyalty and Trust are the big ones. Kuris had their trust broken by the king they’ve sworn their loyalty to, and has gained a new family they can trust with everything. Another, smaller theme is Forgiveness and Self-improvement, where they’re learning to forgive themself and others for their mistakes and become a better person.

50. What are some motifs associated with your character?

not entirely sure how to interpret this one... is it, like, visually? if so, then green, silver and black are the colors i most associate with them, and i love seeing them associated with imagery of shields, hands, and dragons (in a Pelor/Bahamut kind of way)(and also in a gay way because i be yearning)

51. What were some inspirations for your character (people, movies, games)?

Ah, well,, I think Ruby would have Scyther? Hahaha and maybe Scizor, but also, I imagine her having Garchomp, that'd be cool, this sweet ass girl having this beast of a Mon that's Garchomp hahah

Weiss, any ice type really hahaha, maybe Froslass? But I also imagine her having smth more knight like or smth similar, like Aggron, Bisharp, and Corviknight, maybe even Empoleon

For Blake, ghost or dark types?? So,, Mismagius, Absol, or even Liepard. Zoroark would be cool too just for that illusion thing both have going on hahah

For Yang, probs a fighting type, or a fire... Fire/fighting— so probs Blaziken, Emboar, or Infernape
