Surge and her attempts at heroics didn't really work out. She tried it, it was boring, Kit created problems for her to solve (IDW #78), and once she found out, she gave it up. Kit wasn't going to be a villian without her. But Sonic&co wouldn't leave her alone, "[she was] almost there", "[she's] a good person deep down", etc. In order to get them off her back, she went out of her way to be an ass. She got into petty but gnarly fights. She estranged herself from Kit, half a genuine attempt to be cruel and half because she didn't want Kit going down with her. She became, somehow, more nasty than ever before, and reveled in it, hating herself and wanting to be worse.

The Sol Emeralds only ever called Blaze to Mobius when there was some world-ending type threat. She visited pretty often, whenever the Sol Dimension was in a peacetime she would check in on her friends. And half the time, they were in the wake of something that was decidedly not enough of a calamity for the Sol Emeralds to have summoned her. She did not like this. Even if it strained her awfully, Blaze wanted to know every time that there was a threat on Mobius and be there to fix it herself. But, visiting daily, as would be required to deal with these kinds of issues, was not an option. She tried it, and the Sol Empire suffered due to her drained energy and the Emeralds' sapped power. So she ended up just going to Mobius whenever she could afford to, and picking over every crook in every city and town and whatever stamping out everything that might end up being a problem.

And then :) they :) encounter each other :)

Like isn't there a lot you can do with that??? Blaze (I-can-and-have-to-fix-and-then-subsequently-protect-every-thing-and-person) meet Surge (I-am-fundamentally-incapable-of-being-a-good-person-and-therefore-have-to-"seem"-evil-so-people-will-fuck-off)

anndnsbddbensn And they're like so bad for each other? But also good? They both lock onto the other as the Biggest Problem and the Perfect Way To Prove [whatever] and therefore can't mess with anything else. If Blaze messes up or misses something or doesn't save someone she has no time to worry about it because Surge is actively seeking her out and Surge forgets about her pick-a-buff-guy-and-goad-them-into-punching-you-first strategy because Blaze is actively trying to Fight Her Back and theyyyygjghg

I was trying to keep this all in past tense but whatever. Guys. "No harm must come to anyone" vs "I have to hurt everyone around me and myself" gyys. guys. guys.

And then they become friends :(((( and euhrhfg

So, I watched the first episode of “Those About To Die” on Peacock.

I enjoyed it, and Im willing to do write ups if folks would be interested…

Since I wana talk about details, and I dont wana spread spoilers, everything is below the readmore.

What I liked: 🔵 And what I disliked: 🟠

Total Ranking: 8/10 - very good, worth the watch 👍

🟠 It dove into the Intrigue right away, which made it hard to watch while doing other things, but I can appreciate a show that grabs you by the shoulders and shoves you down into the couch to pay attention.

🔵 It wasn’t boring, quite the contrary, I felt fully engaged throughout the episode. Theres a lot of small moving parts to the story, and it orchestrates together incredibly well so far, even for Episode One. The writing is very well done, which is a lynchpin for me on a show like this. You cant pretend to be an intrigue type series without a proper plot. And, in my opinion, they’ve set their plots well right away. Tenax getting those shares in Blue was a great con, which had clearly been going a while, but we only saw the tail end of it. I see this little setup as a great look at how the writers DO their work. Connections matter, money does more than talk, and if you play the game wrong, you die. Don’t trust anyone.

🔵 I REALLY enjoyed the historical aspects of the first episode. Like, yes, this plot happened, its a historical fiction and a number of these characters exist in history, but its not just that. Its the small details, the different knives in different cultures, the veterinary care of race horses, the deities from more than just the main roman pantheon, the drinkware, the VARIOUS clothes from various cultures and climates…. And yes, women often went topless when they were a sxwrkr. Gotta advert.

🔵 ON THAT SUBJECT: can we talk about “3 sesterce… and Im tighter than both of them.” MY BOY, YOU ARE RIZZIN TOO HARD AND I LOST IT. Please, please let him be in future episodes. Omfg….

🟠 I am forced to concede the accuracy isnt PERFECT, the horses wore modern driving bridles to go with their ancient styled chariots. However, Im realistic about how many horses are trained today to pull anything without blinders, and how much safer modern bridles are. I’ll also note: I absolutely saw the animal handler grab the horse differently (calmly) before the riot surrounded it, then direct the horse to dance in the crowd. Great training with the horse! Bad camera angle. Lol

🔵 I also really like this cast so far. Everyone fills their roles incredibly well.

Hopkins doesnt even need an introduction, the mans a legend and brings all his experience to the stage with him every time. -chefs kiss-

Rheon was great in GOT, he plays calculatingly unhinged exceptionally well. But I wont lie, seeing him in a more commanding, level headedly calculating person?

Hashim….. HASHIM!!! Im SO excited to see where his character goes. We haven’t seen much of him in Ep 1 just yet, but he’s clearly going to be one of the main players. Im not familiar with him as an actor, but I’ve enjoyed his performance so far, and I REALLY appreciate the story being told.

Martins is also incredible. She does a fantastic job of knowing the danger her characters children are facing, but also knowing she HAS to play her cards right to save them. She personifies the strength and determination of a mother perfectly.

🔵 Quite honestly, I have to give points to that whole plot-line in general. That point of view is something we’ve had hidden from us (in America) for so long, that I think a LOT of people have… become calloused. I hope seeing it will potentially help others come to an empathetic understanding. This isn’t glossing over what happened, or whats likely to happen to any of the three children.

🔵 I also want to gush over actually SHOWING the wider Roman Empire, we get to see the direct effect of their influence in both Africa and Spain so far. Egypt was their bread basket, and without that grain, youve got problems. The Berber Coast has animals, and people they want, and we see money exchanging hands for the purpose of those ends. We see how the locals were told they’d be treated fairly, paid properly, and even eventually become citizens, like the Spaniards, only to have those promises thrown aside as soon as the Romans have better money to make. These people gave the Empire everything it wanted, but the Empire is never satisfied.

We also get to appreciate how far west the empire went when the Spaniards are trying to sell their horses. (Plot-bunny: Andies are dancing horses, exceptionally athletic, and a prime choice for chariots, though, a standardbred is the usual choice for modern cart racers)

🟠 I will say the CGI isnt the best. You can tell exactly when they change from live action to CGI. But this is a minor issue for me tbh. Its passable CGI, and they use it to avoid putting animals or people in danger which, obviously, I appreciate. A chariot wreck was shown, annnnnd it was pretty darn accurate to how messy those would have been. Not good times y’all. Not good times. Also, the ramifications of a major concussion. Oof. At least the guy would have barely knew what was happening? Still.

🔵 The sound effects were enough without being over the top. Often times when theres gore to show, theres all these extra squelching noises and gratuitous blood… not this time. It’s actually… pretty durn accurate. Don’t ask how I know. I don’t wana tell you, and you dont wana know.

Overall, it was a really solid first episode, and I plan on watching the rest.

His leg bounced up and down, he was tearing at his dry cuticles, biting at the side of his cheek, ignoring the pang he got in his heart each time Tyler cast a glance his way— this time. This time I need to do it. It had been almost three weeks since Boone had really jerked off.

🛞Mirage had a reputation with the other Autobots as being easily distracted and unobservant, but he was of the opinion that that was quite the opposite— at least when he was with Noah. Who wouldn’t occasionally catch themself staring, if they had such a pretty human for a boyfriend?

I’m pretty happy with the fact that it’s evenly 5 twisters and 5 transformers fics lol :] that’s also the first time I’ve revisited Peace of Mind since I initially wrote and posted it all in one go, to distract myself from making bad choices 🫠 I hardly remember writing it, and I’ve been nervous that it would be all over the place bc I wasn’t feeling well, but I actually quite like it! Anyway I can definitely notice a pattern with these opening lines, but tbh I don’t really think that’s a bad thing yk? Anyway this was fun, thanks for the tag @playingwiththeboysisagayanthem ^_^

TF2 comics chapter 7 negativity 😎

Ok so I’m seeing everyone being happy and grateful for last chapter, but I’m old salty woman so I think I want to express my negative opinion and maybe some of you might feel validated in your negativity by seeing it as well.

Spoilers alert!!

Negativity alert!

Ok so….yeah. I’m not impressed. Big focus on hetero romance, nothing but hints for homos. Pauling being the most obvious (if not only one tbh). And as I’ve said many times it’s always fairly easy to put wlw romance into big franchise especially with attractive feminine female characters. So I am NOT applauding to this. They could’ve done more.

Next I love Announcer so much she’s such a queen and big part of the chapter is dedicated to her, but then she just dies because she’s lost/gone full bananas with her revenge and there’s nothing anyone can do to help her. I hate that kind of endings. I hate them soooo much but ok. She’s a villain and she dies. Very Disney-esque ending.

I also think not giving any explanation to anything and then being like “duuuuh that the point violence is senseless” is also LAME AF. But ok. Again it is just a matter of taste and I can’t say it’s “bad” story choice. But it is bad in my own opinion because I find it boring and very idealistic. Same message was with Gortash and Karlach in BG3 but at least we knew how Gortash was abused in his childhood. So it was way better.

Ending. Hate with passion that Scout don’t know that Spy is his dad still. I generally disliked when they made Spy Scout’s dad in comics, but oh well.

I also wasn’t touched by the ending lmao. “Thank you for being here for 7 years”. I wasn’t there for 7 years because you didn’t do anything to fix the fucking game and it is still unplayable and filled with bots.

And making people wait for 7 years for this was absolutely ridiculous they could’ve hired another writer or another artist (I forgot what their deal was) 6 years ago. Or maybe 5.

Scout with kids? Cute and funny. Heavy and Medic? Cute but nothing of substance. Valve have nothing to loose, they could’ve give us more GAY. But they didn’t. Ok.

I also hoped for Announcer/Pauling (I shipped them so much) but nope. Not much there either (something is there for sure, just not much).

Overall? Meh. I’m glad I lost my patience for new chapter 5 years ago so I was able to read new chapter with cold head. If I was actually waiting all these years I would’ve been so furious lmao.

No offence to Valve, writers, artists, ect.

That’s just my personal opinion.

The lore seems really cool so far. I like the settings and the stuff about the legend beasts.

Man Laval really fucked everything up.

I have a feeling all of cragger’s dumbass-ness, like, transferred over to laval and now we’re gonna be seeing him making all the dumbass decisions

The only thing I really care about here is the b-plot about Gorzan and his flower. More engaging than the main plot

Episode 4:

Prediction about Laval replacing Cragger as the resident dumbass seems to be coming true

Gorzan is quickly becoming my favorite.

Episode 5:

I love the attitude of just asking the beavers to fix the mountain. Like let’s just chuck a couple of construction workers at this malfunctioning holy site that’ll probably work

I definitely feel like it’s a show that doesn’t have super strong characters. I think it would better if the show leaned more into the world it’s created instead, if that makes sense. Maybe later the character writing will improve a little bit, and I’ll changed my tune. But!! Who knows. I’m having fun with it.

lupin:

known attention whore = MADE for the too self important lead vocalist whose ego eventually breaks up the band. it’s just that by standard lupin miracles nobody has even considered that as an option! but just saying “main character is the frontman” is boring so let’s go further

lupin probably had like piano lessons as a kid per the hyper decadent lifestyle of the family, but he only retained like. don’t stop believin maybe. piano isn't totally his style in a BAND band, like he COULD do keyboard reasonably if he wanted but he thinks it looks silly so he doesn’t because he’s just. like that. it's his band he gets to do whatever

jack of all trades master of none most likely. can play a little on the guitar, bass, bagpipes for all i care, jaw harp, elementary school recorder, etc, but it’s mostly for show. he’d kill on drums but that’s in the BACK and HE can’t be in THE BACK

jigen: 

a second in command comfortable with being second in command? jigen wouldn’t even be on the stage if it was up to him, he’d just play his part like standing on the steps to the platform

guitar, but prefers acoustic. he processes the notes better if they're like, "organic" like that, not to say he CAN'T do electric guitar, and he admits it sounds pretty sick time to time, but he has his preference. he loves the sound of piano, too, but he doesn’t have the fingers for it, and he’d LOVE to do saxophone but learning it is a real task and it’s hard to juggle murder, burglary, and lessons simultaneously. maybe if he ever retires. and if that smoker’s lung capacity doesn’t have anything to say about it

jigen’s gonna be causing beef about the music styles for sure. and lupin’s like “you LOVE rock” and he’s like “but this is specifically is shit. actually take it down a few steps pal let’s just do some billy joel” “WE HAVE AN AMP.”

oh god she has a beautiful singing voice. you know it, i know it, everyone does, and maybe she’ll sing once in a while, but her REAL deal is managing.

oh she LOVES being on that clunky flip phone going “my talent would sooner play a swamp than take pocket change from your dinky little joint” and really none of the others like the setup side of playing live music so really it works out! plus she gets to hit ‘em with the agent royalties. best of both worlds

could probably play damn near any instrument if she really tried, but she doesn’t care too much to make that effort, at least not for this purpose. she likes listening and dancing to music more anyway! it’s probably why she doesn’t sing too much despite her natural gift there. i bet she'd be hands on if they made a music video or something though

a little addendum: it would be so cute if yata was also trying to manage them. like he’s fujiko’s assistant. man gets stuff DONE i can easily imagine the trade off of “yes i can schedule this. wait what are the hours? ooooh. lemme get you on the line with miss mine” and she just grins knowing she’s about to unload a whole schpeel on this phone guy. good cop bad cop managers. if i knew more about the band scene as a whole i bet i could throw some other thoughts in here but for now we'll just reach the honorary sixth guy :)

19. What do you think their teenage/childhood years were like?

Honestly I think he's been chronically online for a WHILE. Definitely was part of "the boys" in like. What middle school? Around 13-16. He was definitely one of them and god would he have been insufferable. So relatively normal. At least by today's standards. Apparantly the "boys are absolutely fucking insufferable save like 2 people" thing is almost exclusive to my cohort so. Maybe not as normal. He reminds me of them tho./neg

11. Favourite parts of the story n narrative surrounding them?

One that surprised me that I was interested in was how she views love. I'm aroace so I usually am. Really disinterested with themes and topics of romantic love especially (hence why I thought she was kinda boring when I first got into milgram) but honestly I love seeing how her perception of love is and how it's warped and yet she clings onto it so tightly that she says she'll die if she can't love the way she does (iirc. Haven't watched vds in forever but I swear she said something along those lines)

Within Milgram story wise I do think it's interesting how her injuries affect not just her but those around her, and I think it's interesting how they have it affect different characters differently, even to the point of being a big factor in another character's changes between trials. I like when characters affect other characters

12. What do you wish would be discussed more about them in the fandom?

I'm gonna be real I barely discuss mahiru myself 💥 cuz I tend to hyperfocus on the characters i was originally the most interested in. HOWEVER idothink she should be discussed more in general. She's a very interesting character and I want to know others people's thoughts on her and her murder and allat. Yippeee

13. Any idea on how their MV would've been like with a different verdict in t1?

OUGH ok hm. I think it would've stuck more closely to ainandesuyo's vibe. Esp since her ideals on how love is wouldn'tve been rejected. Think the rose tinted glasses parts of daisuki. Yeag mostly that. Maybe a few more cracks on the surface than ainandesuyo tho.
