I heard somewhere Shen Yuan’s family might have spent a good amount of time in the US to avoid the one child policy? Don’t know how accurate the information is though, and it might have affected his elder siblings more. I always like to think he’s relatively fluent in English tho, just because of how much he criticizes Airplane for it.

I've heard that theory too! I've seen some theories that he might have been born in America or Canada for a number of reasons, though those are all just theories and not confirmed as far as I know. even if that wasn't the case, it certainly doesn't seem outside the realm of possibility that he may have at least traveled anyway since his family is wealthy. I agree though, based on how much he criticizes Airplane's English he's probably pretty fluent!

So... Dick Grayson's Headcanons :D (this gonna be a long post-)

Some mine and some from the fandom!

Obviously not all of them (I don't have all of them in mind right now), but as you know, we will continue to post them here anyway🤙

And I already mentioned some of them before, but I'll mention some of them again anyway.

First I remind you that these are just HC and/or things that I like to project onto the character, you don't have to agree or share them with me, if you don't like one, just skip it please, you don't need to come here to discuss because of a HC of a fictional character.

I also advise that, although I always try to ensure that the HCs do not interfere with the canon, some may contradict it (mostly because I forget certain details of the canon- lmao).

Dick has the body of a person who does calisthenics, an acrobat's body, indeed, more than that of an Olympic male gymnast.

(Ignoring canon on the first one, lmao). But yes, I like to think that Dick doesn't have as much muscle as Bruce, that way he can keep his flexibility intact, because, no matter how flexible you are, if you have too much muscle, you lose mobility, so, yeah. Still, he have more muscle than the average acrobat, but not as much as a gymnast... Kinda sleeper build.

Many heroes thought Dick was a meta.

Mainly due to his flexibility, others for more silly things like being able to understand Flash when he speaks.

Dick has a very messy eating schedule, He often forgets to eat and sometimes eats twice as much, not because he is hungry, but because he has forgotten whether he has eaten or not.

He doesn't eat much junk food, although he is constantly on a sugar rush. Anyway, thanks to Bitewing he has a better schedule now, since he doesn't forget to feed her, and he takes advantage of the opportunity to eat something too. He still doesn't sleep enough tho.

Although he seems to be the most relaxed in his family, he is the second most paranoid after Bruce.

Paranoia + anxiety, more specifically. He takes it as best he can.

Ironically, despite his paranoia, he is the one who trusts the others the most in his entire family; but he always has a plan in his head in case he is betrayed.

He doesn't have anger issues, not all the time at least... The poor guy is just overstimulated.

Except when he is underestimated for being a "pretty boy", then the anger is real.

He is quick to learn to play instruments given his high muscle memory and keen ear.

Canonically he knows how to play guitar and also some piano.

Although Bruce knows more languages, Dick is the most fluent in them.

Bruce knows the languages, but he makes the typical mistake of thinking in his native language and then translating. Dick does have the ability to think directly in other languages.

When he gets angry, Dick talks very fast and starts mixing up languages, so even though Bruce knows all the languages Dick is speaking, can't keep up because he needs to translate everything.

Continuing with languages, I like YJ's idea of Dick butchering the English language... So, yeah, he actually does that.

But he doesn't do it because English is not his first language (even if he has Romani ancestry, his first language will probably be English, since it was the common language in the circus), but because he has spoken too many languages since he was little, then they get mixed up in his mind and when a word doesn't come to mind in English, he just makes up another one. Sometimes he just says the word in another language.

Another one about languages: even if he canonically only speaks 10-12 languages, for me he actually speaks/understands many more, he's just not fluent in them so he doesn't count them.

He is an AUDHD person, without diagnosis, but on more than one occasion his friends said it to him.

Barbara especially, has been telling him this since they were younger.

As an added bonus: AUDHD is harder to diagnose than ADHD or autism alone, since it is known that the characteristics of each one can diminish or even cancel the characteristics of the other; at the same time, it can increase other traits, but these may be wrongly attributed to other conditions.

I say this as someone from the field of psychology, please don't think I'm making this up.

So, Most of the "weird" things they noticed about Dick they attributed to his growing up environment and subsequent PTSD... Which is partly true, but not entirely true.

He knows too many random facts that no one knows where he learned them from, not even him.

He's on the asexual spectrum, probably demisexual, and biromantic.

This doesn't mean that he can't "enjoy" it, but he definitely doesn't feel the same as he doesn't feel a real attraction due to the lack of connection.

He liked the rain.

It's not exactly a trigger, but he doesn't like it like he used to.

If you understand, you understand.

He doesn't like compliments about his physical appearance, but he responds egocentrically to compliments about his other qualities, although this is to hide his shame, he does not know how to take compliments.

He prefers to act to hide his embarrassment, otherwise he ends up as a bundle of nerves.

He definitely did the thing more than once where he went to Metropolis and jumped off a building to get Clark's attention instead of visiting him like a normal person.

He loves it when his friends are the ones who initiate the hugs, especially since most of them lift him off the ground when they hug him. He'll never say it, but he loves this.

Although he acts like an older brother to everyone, the moment someone older is with him, he becomes an annoying younger brother.

He only does it with people he trusts, tho, since it requires him to let his guard down a little.

This is a very normal trait in older siblings, actually, and most of the time it is unconscious, and it is even more common if they were only children for a long time.

He likes to act dumb so the bad guys will underestimate him.

The bad thing is that sometimes even his family forgets that he is also considered a genius.

Here we ignore what DC did with Dick by making him more focused on leadership, he was always a child prodigy and always will be.

Alfred taught him to clean in specific ways because Dick complained a lot about the texture that certain objects had if they were not cleaned properly.

He also taught him cooking tricks, because otherwise Dick would starve because he doesn't like to eat many things.

He only likes chips... And also football.

It's pretty good in all kinds of art, He may not be a artist like Damian, or a dancer like Cass, but he holds his own in those disciplines as well.

He mainly uses drawing to draw structures or spoken portraits rather than for artistic and recreational purposes.

He only dances at events to which he is invited or any type of mission that requires it.

Tbf, canonically, he does know how to draw and dance, it is the reasons why he does them that is a HC.

He also knows how to do things like sewing and so on, his mother taught him to fix his own clothes.

He doesn't have a favorite color, but he tells people it's blue because it just makes sense to everyone.

He likes to wear superhero merch.

He can't stay in an office for the sake of his sanity, prefers dynamic jobs.

He also changes jobs very often even though he is good most of them, he gets bored.

He took too many online courses, he just never claims certification so it looks like he didn't study any degree.

Sometimes he just sits quietly with Damian watching animal documentaries without a narrator.

He often complains that Bruce never let him have a pet.

He knows perfectly well why he couldn't, he never had time to take care of one, he just likes to complain about it.

He is the one who scares his siblings the most, but none of them admit it.

He is the most stealthy (with Cass), a consequence of his bright yellow coat when he was a kid. Jason is the next stealthiest, but Dick is the one with the "light feet."

He definitely understands synesthesia.

He discussed many times with people about what color Monday is and what number is orange.

Summer is too hot and winter is too cold, he is team temperate, thank you very much.

He listens to music very often, he also sings to himself whenever he is not listening to music.

He knows lullabies in several languages, even those he doesn't actively speak.

He helps comfort frightened small children, and entertains older children with juggling and magic tricks.

His resistance to pain is terrifying, but when he is in serious pain, his childhood accent becomes thick.

He camouflages his childhood accent as an adult, adopting the Gotham accent, but can still use his real accent or imitate any other.

He often imitates the voices of the people he is talking to when they are being hypocritical, or simply to annoy them.

Although he mostly makes bad jokes, he is actually more than capable of making genuinely very funny jokes and pranks, he simply made bad jokes part of his personality since they were the ones that made Bruce laugh the most.

Although he grew up in the circus and knows more swear words than he should, he's not really a person who casually swears. He grew up being around people, especially children, so he knows how to control himself pretty well in that regard.

However, he knows how to destroy someone with words in a much more damaging way than with simple insults, even more than insulting them in every language there is and will be.

He looks pretty all the time, this annoys his friends and especially his brothers a lot.

Cass doesn't care about it, she finds it interesting and kind of funny.

He likes to braid Donna's hair. <3

Further language notes/rambling under the cut!

"wait, isn't Jake supposed to be spelled Tsyeyk in Na'vi?" Yes it is! And if I'd given that line to a monolingual Na'vi speaker I would've spelled it that way. BUT Neytiri is bilingual and does not pronounce it "Tsyeyk" (I mean, technically she doesn't say "Jake" either, it's more like "Zheyk" but w/e). So for her specifically I keep the j. I suppose at that point I could've just kept the English spelling completely, but leaving silent letters at the end like that makes things weird in written Na'vi given all the grammatical endings that can be applied (not that that matters in this comic because they weren't needed for the line but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

Speaking of Jake, writing Na'vi dialogue for him is fun to me because he's not a native speaker which means I'm free to give him all sorts of beginner habits and/or mistakes, especially given that by his own admission he struggled learning the language. However, since I'm working within a pretty broad time frame, I had to remind myself that he wouldn't be a beginner forever.

I bring this up because there are two aspects of Jake's dialogue here that I was going to point out as...well, not wrong, but as more "English-y" habits I'd headcanoned he might hang on to...but on further reflection changed my mind because I realized that at the time of this comic he's been living with the Omatikaya for nearly ten years and would be pretty much fluent. I still left it written that way but am no longer headcanoning that that's ~just how he talks~ at this point in his life. After all, if I'm conscious of these habits after just two years of studying the language as a casual hobby, is it really believable that he'd be clinging to them after nearly a decade of full daily immersion, even with his self-admitted struggle with language learning? 😅

Anyways, for the sake of rambling about my hobby regardless, one of these aspects was using SVO word order, like English. Na'vi is a free-word-order language, so SVO is valid, but most Na'vi speakers are not going to stick to it exclusively. I think Jake, like many native-English-speaking learners, may have relied on this word order earlier on because that's just how his brain has been wired to process information, but at this point I think just by sheer exposure he'd have broken out of any strict adherence to it, intentional or otherwise.

The other thing is concerning possessive. The standard Na'vi grammatical ending for possessive is -yä. But Na'vi grammar also includes a concept called inalienable possession, which refers to things that are intrinsically yours and cannot be given away. What exactly qualifies as inalienable varies between languages that have such a concept, but with Na'vi it's most commonly seen with body parts. Inalienable possession can be marked with -yä, but there is a slight preference to mark it with the topical, -ri, instead. So, compare:

Peyä mehinam lu ngim. His legs are long. Pori mehinam lu ngim. His legs are long (lit. "concerning him, the legs are long")

Both of these are considered acceptable, but the -ri version is considered just slightly "better" (for lack of a better term).

You'll notice that Jake uses peyä instead of pori here; this was because the peyä structure is a more direct equivalent to the English construction, so it's pretty common for new learners to use it instead of -ri. And again it's not wrong, so it's not exactly a mistake per se. So it seemed like a reasonable "Englishy-but-still-technically-correct" habit for Jake to hang on to. And I do still think that may well have been in the case...in his earlier years 😅

soooo yeah. I will still probably be giving Jake some of those speaking habits in comics and such that take place only 2-3 years after A1, but once you get to around 10 years like this one...yeah I think it'll make more sense to just write his dialogue like that of any other fluent Na'vi-speaking character lol

Do the turtles know Japanese too? Or do they only know things related to martial arts?

I noticed that Leo doesn't stop blushing when he talks to Karai. It's so sweet , but I think he'll talk about something anyway.

Yes, Kenji helps Karai out a lot. He’s definitely among the protagonists of the story. He cares a lot about Karai, though he doesn’t really consciously think it, he absolutely treats her like his daughter (and Karai trusts him and loves him far more like a father than Shredder).

Yeah probably. She’s pretty fluent though. Shredder had her learn English pretty early on (Shredder does a lot of business in the United States, so English is a must) so she doesn’t have much of an accent and has a pretty wide vocabulary, though she doesn’t slip up sometimes since Japanese is her native language.

The turtles are a mix. Splinter didn’t teach them Japanese, and really would have tried to forbid it if Leo hadn’t taken such an interest. Leo is able to have basic conversations, but he really isn’t fluent. Raph and Donnie know a bit just from exposure and stuff, but probably couldn’t have a conversation. Mikey knows basically nothing, except the names of moves and various things that don’t have English names, simply out of lack of interest in learning.

Yeah, Leo is not very good at playing it cool 🤣

once the NEL league is over, they'll be separated for a while, so neither of them will be really focused on trying to learn each other's languages (besides, at this point in time, they'll still hate each other lol).

during that time, isagi would probably have time to properly develop his english.

meanwhile, kaiser probably does know english, or at least enough to carry a basic conversation. idk if it's explicitly required if you want to be a pro athlete, but it is expected you know english. if kaiser knew from a young age he wanted to be a pro, he probably would have taken up learning english early on.

the reason why isagi's english currently sucks is because english education in japan sucks ass 💀 i heard it focuses mostly on pure memorization rather than learning the actual structure and rules of the language. the itoshi brothers probably had to get private tutors to become as fluent as they currently are lmao

even if kaiser didn't learn english as a kid (because honestly i even question if he went to school at all 😭😭), going from german to english is wayy easier than going from japanese to english.

anyway that was a long-ass way of saying "they would speak to each other in english at first". cuz yeah i agree, i doubt the mikage corporation would let the NEL players hold onto the translators once bltv ends.

i DO think they would eventually try to learn each other's languages though. i wrote a bunch of headcanons of how that would look like a while back, but i can't find it anymore bc tumblr's search function fucking sucks 😭😭

on one hand, they could start learning each other's languages after they start dating to show appreciation for each other's cultures and to impress each other's families....

OR it's because they wanted to learn how to insult them in the most personal way possible BEFORE they got together.

By night, Dortmund looks just how she remembered it. Locals are still trickling out from the shops and bars downtown, but the thin, quaint streets are familiar as the chauffeured car zips toward the hotel the club has booked for them. The driver’s English is fluent and though it’s nearing 22:00, his manner is chipper, and polite. He doesn’t blink an eye when Y/N leans over, pressing into Jadon’s side in the backseat.

“Are you alright? You’ve been quiet.”

“Yeah, I’m good.” Jadon reaches for her hand and pulls them both to rest in his lap. “Just thinkin.”

“About what?”

“About how when I came here for the first time, remember I saw someone’s nan, like, a group of em, leaving the pub like 2am. Couldn’t believe it.”

She huffs, and leans her head against his shoulder. Her hair and ears are protected by a yellow, silk-lined BVB hat.

“The exact same as England, no? All the nans love a pub run now and then. What was the one in Manchester all the aunties went to?”

“Don’t remember.” Jadon fidgets in his seat, and a cold surge shoots down her back. Perhaps it wasn’t the aptest comment to make. She can do better than to mention the city that for the next five months at least, they will both hope to forget.

“Well, anyways, it’s normal. Do you think the physios will-”

She interrupts her own sentence with a yawn, which is long and drawn out and makes both Jadon and the driver laugh.

“Are you tired? You can stay at the hotel while I go to medical.”

“‘No,” She shakes her head, rubbing the drowsiness from her eyes that has seemed to strike from out of nowhere. “No, I’ll go with you.”

“My sleepy girl,” Jadon tutts, and kisses her on the forehead, right above her frowning eyebrows. She is determined not to let his affection relax her into sleep. “M’sorry it’s so late. Know you had a long day.”

It’s all of the past week– the past three years, really– that have been long, and even though leaving Manchester feels like a genie's wish finally granted, there is a balloon of tensions still swelling just under the surface. She’s thrilled to be back in Germany, and beyond excited to see Jadon in action again on the pitch, but also knows the current solution is only a quick one. A long term plan for her boyfriend’s career is not yet in their hands, still fluttering up in the air.

The uncertainty has been a frigid block of ice in her stomach since they deboarded the plane.

“So have you.”

“Yeah, but, still. How bout you decide after we check in our room? We’re almost there.”

Jadon peers out of the window, and she follows his gaze. The colorful passing lights, and the possibility of receiving more of his kisses are motivation to stay awake.

“We’re almost there? How d’you know?”

“‘Cause I know.” He continues looking out the window, but his hand tightens in her grasp. Leaning against his chest, she can feel his deep, hopeful sigh when it escapes him. “I’m at home, innit.”

The Merck-Stadion am Böllenfalltor is no Signal Iduna Park, but the incessant fervor of German football fans is found in almost every city. Blue flags and scarfs are scattered so densely across the stadium that it’s hard to make out anything else from her seat, but when the players exit the tunnel at kick-off her eyes spot Jadon like magic. He is a tiny dot, covered in black, a dark speck on the bench, and simultaneously the only one in the crowd who matters. She wants desperately to know what he’s thinking, how he’s feeling about the match, but knows his phone with her “good luck” texts is tucked dutifully away in his locker. So from here, she can only think at him: You can do this, You deserve this, Everyone here is behind you.

The ice block inside shifts every time she moves.

It has melted down a fraction when the first half ends, with a lovely finish by Julian, but not much else to show. Darmstadt are not the most formidable of opponents, but anyone knows that home or away, a one-goal lead rarely guarantees anything, is hardly enough to shrink the worry down to size. During the break, she orders two hot chocolates from the beverage stand to stay warm and for moral support.

Once she’s finished the first cup, she reflects, that, just maybe, the anxieties she’s harboring are unfounded. The homecoming, after all, has been mostly joyful: Jadon’s medical test last night went seamlessly, the other partners and families in the seats next to her have been incredibly kind, and the welcome from Terzic and Jadon’s new and not-so-new teammates has been sincere, and warm.

So she can’t explain why it feels still as if she’s waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Or, for some snag or slip up to scratch the surface, and ruin the pretty picture that Jadon is fighting so hard to restore. There's no logical reason why, in the 60th minute, when the match resumes and she sees the yellow #10 shining on his back, she's teleported back to those dreadful evenings in Manchester. Then, it seemed that no matter what Jadon did or said, in public or in private, his actions were misconstrued, his words twisted up by a manager who was determined to misunderstand him.

She tried, in those moments, to do what she could to help. The days she got home before him, she would order his favorite meals - spicy curry goat and rice-, queue his favorite 90's American movies, and bring him tea before bed. When they settled beneath the covers, she would rub his back and pet his hair, his hands clutching at every part of her he could reach, and their heartbeats echoing. Some nights his dry lips would press against her throat, whispering, confessing. I just wanna play. After a while, she never knew how to respond. “It’s gonna be okay” was the truth of what she believed, but she knew that words, however heart-felt, were not what he needed to hear. He just needed her to be there.

And so she was.

And now, here they are.

Regardless the color of the kit- this is where Jadon belonged. On a green, frost-bitten field, panting, his face frozen and his lungs burning. Blitzing defenders and setting up his teammates, performing how the world always knew he could and giving everything to push the team toward a win.

As long as he can be somewhere, and doing this, she thinks, a future will sort itself out. She’s sure.

He flits his way down the wing, and she imagines she can see the fire in his eyes all the way from her seat. The ice block resting in her stomach begins to melt away in its heat. By the time he delivers the assist, Marco flying into the box to tap the cross home, there’s nothing left but a puddle, quickly drying up.

She beats the team coach back to Dortmund and looks up from her phone when the players begin to file out. Their shoulders are hunched against the cold, but even from a distance she can tell the three points, the clean sheet have lifted the daunting weight beginning to rest there. When she walks closer, she can even see the grins, hear the jokes and banter flying in a mix of German, Dutch, and English. She says a quick hello to Gio and Jamie when they pass, and congratulates Mouki on his goal, and it’s a lovely moment, - she’s more than pleased to see their faces, to be back among them. She’s almost taken by surprise when Jadon comes up behind her, sliding an arm across her shoulders.

“Baby,” She jumps into him, circling her arms around Jadon’s neck while he squeezes around her middle. They are in the middle of Germany but that spot between his neck and shoulder smells just like the body wash and cologne he uses at home, and for a second she isn’t sure she can let go. His new, old teammates still surround them, respectfully ignoring their PDA, but it’s all she can do to not kiss him on the mouth right there, in front of them all. “An assist first day back? You were born to do this, you know.”

“Yeah? You think so?”

The crest on her yellow BVB hat scratches against his coat as she nods.

“Yeah, it felt good, innit. Good to be back.”

She pulls away an inch to look in his face, at his cute nose which is pale from the cold, at the relief and fatigue and shine in his eyes which is back and which she hasn’t seen in long months. She cups his cheeks in her hands as she speaks, feeling her own grin spreading, making sure he hears what she’s saying, and feels it too. “I’m so proud of you, Jadon. And no matter what else happens, I’m gonna be here.”

Her words and their sincerity make Jadon smile, too, and he turns his head, kissing into the center of her palm, and nuzzling his fuzzy cheek there. His eyes slip closed for the briefest second. Y/N isn’t sure that her own eyes aren’t watering --she’s that happy for him, she loves him that much-- but is hastily wiping any moisture away when she catches sight of the platinum blonde standing just over Jadon’s left shoulder.

“Marcinho,”

“Y/N!” She and Jadon separate long enough for her to offer the midfielder a tight squeeze that he returns in kind. Save for a short chat after a match in the USA in the summer, it has been years now, since she last saw him. “It is so good to see you again. How are things in England?”

“Everything is good, but I have missed it here, to be honest. We’re both happy to be back.”

“I am happy to hear this. You were taking good care of our boy while he was away, yes?” Marco asks in the same light-hearted tone, but she can tell his meaning hints at something deeper. Marco knows what the past years have been like.

“Yeah, I was. Someone’s got to keep him out of trouble, you know?” She looks over to Jadon who is sucking his teeth, his eyes almost rolling. “He’s wild, this one.”

“Nah, I’m a good boy. Marco knows.” Jadon defends himself with little success, as the former captain is cackling in disbelief and ruffling his hair.

“Yes, I know exactly what you are like. That’s why it is good that you are back here, we will at least try to make you normal. Now come,”

Jadon steps away to wrap his friend and teammate in an embrace, and then he tucks her back underneath his arm, their fingers are interlocked, and they’re saying not goodbye, but “see you later”. The walk to the car is short, but it seems as if Jadon still has a lot to say.

“Thank you for comin here with me, baby. Know it was a bit crazy, the schedule and everything so rushed. Know you’re tired, even though you pretend not.”

Y/N shakes her head, even as the adrenaline rush of the past 48 hours has begun to wane, and the physical and emotional toll of a mid-season loan has begun to set in. It doesn’t change her answer in the slightest. “You don’t have to thank me for that, Jadon. I’m happy to be here.”

“No, but, I mean–” It’s Jadon's turn to command her attention, as if he hasn’t been doing just that all evening since he walked on the pitch, from the first time they saw each other on a night in south London, and every day since then. His eyes are wide and shimmering, and he finds it’s easy to speak to her, even if the memories are difficult. “It’s been hard, lately, innit. Really hard. And you been there, even when I was … even when it was hard. And I’m happier now, but you put up with me when I wasn’t. And that helped me to get here, so. Thank you.”

She does lean up to kiss him this time, but the car is hidden enough and she is too in love to care whether his teammates or coaching staff watch. Jadon, whose hand has raised to cradle her neck, his tongue pushing against her lips, doesn’t seem to mind either.

“I love you, baby." He bumps their noses together. "Don’t know what I’d do without you.”

Her breath flutters over him when she replies, telling him how she loves him back, how there's no place she'd rather be, in a small voice that's almost a whisper. Jadon is smirking, licking and biting his lips like he’s preparing to go in for more, but instead says Look, and tilts her chin to take in the twinkling stars crowding the purple-black sky above.

She was sure before that she had stopped crying, but Jadon’s hands are holding her so gently, his mouth is so soft, his eyes are so full of everything, that the tears may have returned. Because by night, like this, Dortmund is just how she remembers it. The sky is cold and dark but Jadon’s body next to hers, his hand along her throat is warm. The ice block in her belly is evaporated. They’re both a couple of years older and painfully wiser, but the thin, quaint streets that will take them back to the hotel, the taste of Jadon’s lips on her skin, are familiar.

The future opening up ahead of them is bright as a shining #10, as a yellow BVB hat.

OKAY so i have all the pieces im gonna go full lunatic ramblings and talk about the new talon skin.

Additionally he has vo in br portuguese as well as spanish. i've taken the liberty of translating the spanish vo as i know some, even if my english is better >_> you can find the english translated lines here. and if you're a fluent speaker feel free to throw ur two cents in the ring.

i am going to also ramble a liiiiil bit about the other skins in the line in connection with talon, and also go into sett a bit more and at the end i'll talk about a talsett lens. ofc this is all just my opinion blah blah im yapping. this will be a very long post.

OKAY SO FIRST OFF LET'S TALK ABOUT THE DESIGN.

I think splendor opus talon's design is... probably his weakest aspect of him... like imo his design falls into a line of 'there's too many things going on.' too many bells and whistles. i know there was some contention about his colors but i personally like them, tho i dont really like the swirly stuff he's got going on by his shoulders. and idk if i dig his anglerfish lure like hmm. his outfit is kinda a mess but that's okay i forgive him. i wish he had visible eyes always and its interesting that you can see them sometimes they're just super fucking yellow.

imo his splash art is also great!! compared to his last skins, primal ambush on pc and stargazer/prestige on wr (we dont talk about the prestige) this one just gives off a better vibe to me?? the pose is better than stargazer imo.

and his EXPRESSION is so good here. it's cool neutral, and if you squint then yeah maybe he COULD be smiling just a tiny bit, or maybe he could be frowning. its so GOOD.

(once again not a fan of the wispy shit but blah blah)

in terms of model animation, like the wild rift entrance visible in the spotlight intro,, i don't like it as much? just in the starting animation, when he's on the boat all the way up to looking at the camera, i think he gives off yone energy there, not talon energy. i think its because he looks too put together. i think talon should be noticeable for his less than stellar posture lol. he's got some grime i think they should let him keep it.

wild rift offers several poses and there are several that i think do a better job. i dont think his default screams much talon, tho i understand that he would keep good posture sometimes. (i reference it while writing too.)

he breathes fire in his animated performing pose, which is fun. i think poised and the end of performing are his best poses. idk i just think dignified is a strange word to associate with talon, personally. i wouldn't even associate that with enduring blade.

extra side note about his model i love the lil thing that ties his fuckass hair back.

as a side note (but generally more unimportant compared to other apsects of his skins) the animations and in game of him is also very good, but that's a given bc of the better wr models. i love his e, and sometimes ingame he pulls out his fan for a sec? the way his cape moves almost reminds me of rakan.

EDIT: FORGOR to mention that sett is LITERALLY IN HIS RECALL??? AUGHHH

anyway, model aside, let's talk LORE/THEMATIC:

now full disclaimer there's gonna be an event ingame so if there's more lore revealed i'll have to make a summary post or smth, but we'll find out later.

lore/thematic is what i was most wary about, especially because wild rift was handling it, and their last entry (stargazer talon) was so brutally boring in terms of thematic. ive said this before but it gave him no real texture, just someone who was 'secretly working for the enemy.' when i refer to narrative texture i'm more talking about complexity. talon is such a complex character, so if there isn't a layer of complexity in his bio then its shrimply not as good. i always consider skins to be a 'translation' of the character. so painting talon as a flat villain is a poor translation of the character. there are a couple champs that suffer with this tbh, getting reduced or translated to other skinlines poorly. (yone. for example. sett too. maybe some other day i'll make a post about it going into my thought process.) all this to say that i dont really trust wild rift's quality when it comes to character interpretation? like i trust lol pc much more. i think wr gets away with things that wouldnt get through on pc. stuff like putting heels on all their women models, etc.

anyway.

i was VERY PLEASANTLY SURPRISED THEN BC the lore isn't actually one note or flat or leaving little room (primal ambush for example, was a filler line that didnt really give lots to chew on). but this line not only interprets talon but also gives a fair amount of texture!!!

but basically it boils down on first glance to 'sett and the others have to defeat talon (and mundo technically who is like, following behind talon) i'd assumed talon would be a villain from the teasers and i was scared of him being just a flat villain. but that's actually so opposite to the case, because once you look at talon's bio and voice lines he's a tragic and textured villain fighting to choose his own future.

there is admittedly a lot of haziness in regards to the actual world context. even the cinematic they released (here) is set very non-specifically. we know that teemo is Literally Destiny and 'is [trying to] ensure that the chosen ones walk their destined paths.' in sett's bio it mentions being chosen by the 'Paints of Providence, being chosen to take on the mantle of The Gallant Hero' and defeat talon. are the paints different from teemo? uhhhhhh... dont really know.

there are some instances in riot lore where im like 'they totally didnt mean to do that' but i think they very much intended talon to be seen as 'correct' in his motive (though prolly not his actions.) trying to achieve his goals in the wrong way.

i think from all the lore (as in the bios and voice lines) its implied that fate gives you a role to play and erases your past memories? im really not sure about that last part because sett references his ma in his legendary lines... but at the very LEAST fate gives you a part to play. and in talon's case he doesn't want to play it. he's got lines about deciding his own destiny and its fucking sick and on brand. there's even an animated emote (which i'll post separately) explicitly called 'i define who i am.' and YET he's portrayed as someone who 'needs to be defeated.'

ITS TRAGIC. in a talsett lens it really is peak enemies to likers, and FINALLY we're back to themes of control/loss of control that we have with talon's best skins (thematicwise.) and its more tragic if you push it further and think maybe teemo (destiny) knows that him 'fighting his destiny at any cost' is just him cementing himself in his predetermined role of antagonist.

HE IS FIGHTING FOR HIS OWN AGENCY LIKE. HELP.

like high noon also has the same reoccurrance, of things happening to talon outside of his control and him struggling to deal with it. enduring blade: loses his POWERS? (irelia, chill) and suddenly being cast down to mortality. i thiiiiiiiink i've said this before but thematically across (most of) his skinlines talon has two major vibes:

struggles with control

themes of being pushed too far to the point that he doesn't care if the whole place burns down/anarchy. (withered rose and blood moon are two notable examples.)

if you pair this with the idea of him loving perfection and also the idea of 'the edge' you get a tragic portrayal of someone who is just pushed too far (edge) to the point where they snap. feast or famine, all or nothing. and i think that's SUPER interesting because when you look at like, his base/lore that stuff is very much under the surface/not as evident. (imo this is because he's just not at that breaking point yet in story.)

splendor opus is thematically very good because it covers both of his major vibes. it's kinda what i was missing from the stargazer skin. (my criticism was that it's a missed opportunity to put talon in a story about fates and futures without adding his struggle with them.) it also portrays him as a foe but sympathetically, which imo is 90% of the time how it should be. high noon was: yeah he's a devil but he's going through it. enduring blade was: yeah he's a prick but he's going through it. KATARINA COMIC was: yeah he tried to kill her but he's being manipulated. she even let him live like she knows this!!! AGH

as an added note, because this is peking opera themed, i havent ruled out the idea that this is all a stage play and that irl this isn't actually happening. but idk if that can be determined yet. unless i've missed smth, we'll have to see if anything else is revealed.

in summary: i personally rate this thematic VERY high tbh, though still under like, high noon at the very least. i wish the setting was more established but the lore/theming surrounding talon is quite excellent imo, even if his design leaves stuff to be desired.

ALSO, a note on splendor opus sett:

i like his skin a lot tbh! (mythic chroma not as much) and the model/animations are great ofc, but as a legendary skin released alongside another legendary skin this is definitely the lesser of the two. the voice lines are very nondescript and add little thematically compared to talon, and he only has 1 alternate pose? (and a different alt pose on his mythic chroma) so it seems like unequal quality? strange. i think they could've added a tiny bit of doubt to his bio, personally, because a lot of sett's theming is around fighting for those who need it, and talon kinda... needs it? (well, he doesn't need it, but he could USE it.) but this is once again dipping into my opinions on how sett's character is often reduced. though talon actually DOES have a voiceline with him where he calls him stupid, so maybe its something that clicks later for him.

that being said i still like his skin. i'll take what i can get.

Italian Holiday, Part IV

Summary: A few weeks before Richard leaves for Boston, he and Lorelei go on holiday in Italy to make the most of the summer and the time they have left together.

This story takes between the penultimate and last chapter of Office Hours and contains major spoilers for that story, so make sure you read it first!

“I didn’t realize you could actually speak Italian,” Richard says as we step out of the gelateria. Despite the late hour and the sea-salted breeze that weaves through the narrow street, it is still unbearably hot and humid, so the iced dessert is a welcomed treat. 

“Oh, no, I’m far from fluent; my vocabulary is pretty limited and I probably have a terrible accent,” I chuckle as I take a bite of raspberry gelato before it melts off the side of the cup. “But I’ve been ordering for us since we got here—had you not noticed or what?” 

Richard chuckles. “Yes, but you had an actual conversation with the lady in the gelateria,” he says, shoving a big spoonful of pistachio gelato in his mouth. “What was she saying, anyway?” 

“Well, when she realized we were English she asked how we were handling the heat. And then when she handed me your gelato she said, ‘Here, the pistachio for your handsome man.’”

“She did not say that,” Richard snorts. 

“She did!” I say, giggling at the memory and the incredulity on his face. “She has good taste.” 

He shakes his head sheepishly. “So do you secretly speak any other languages?” 

I giggle at the change of subject. “Apart from Old English, Middle English, and Latin, I do speak a tiny bit of French.” 

“Really?” 

“Yes!” 

“How did I not know that?” he asks, sounding impressed. 

I shrug, taking another bite of gelato. “I thought I could more easily impress you with my knowledge of medieval languages, even if it’s not as practical.” 

“Well, it did get you a job at the top university in the country,” he says, smiling. “Where did you learn French, anyway?” 

“I studied it for one of my A Levels.” 

He nods, then grins. “Say something in French.” 

I chuckle, pondering what to say, then grin. “Voulez-vous coucher avec moi?” 

Richard bursts out laughing and wraps one of his strong arms around my shoulders. “I think you already know the answer to that question—it’s why we only got out of bed past 10 am this morning.” 

I smirk in recollection of the lazy morning and squeeze the hand resting over my shoulder. Suddenly, the sound of distant music drifts through the air, and as we turn a corner, the street opens up into a charming town square bathed in the soft glow of string lights. Amidst the passersby and the busy trattorias, a musician is playing a lively tune on a violin near the fountain in the center, and we sit nearby on a bench under a tall olive tree, enjoying the atmosphere as we finish our gelato. 

Sometime later, after throwing away our empty gelato cups in the nearest bin, Richard looks at me with a thoughtful expression, then offers me his hand with a playful smile. 

“Dance with me.” 

“What?” I laugh, but I shake my head when I realize he is serious. “No way—there’s too many people around.” 

“Who cares?” he responds, pulling me to my feet. “No one knows us here and look—no one’s paying attention to us.” 

“Yeah, that’s cause I haven’t yet tripped and fallen on my arse,” I say, causing him to chuckle, but then I sigh, unable to resist him. “Fine. One dance.” 

Richard’s smile widens, and he raises my hand to his lips, pressing a tender kiss on my knuckles before pulling me close and guiding me into a gentle sway. 

We move awkwardly at first, but it is mainly my fault, as I keep stumbling on the uneven cobblestones, struggling to concentrate when Richard gazes so lovingly into my eyes. He, on the other hand, is surprisingly graceful, twirling me around and effortlessly catching me when I almost lose my balance. 

“Where did you learn to dance like that?” I ask, holding onto his shoulder more tightly. 

“I, er, took dance lessons as a teenager,” he admits sheepishly. 

I raise one surprised eyebrow. “Really?” 

He chuckles. “Yeah, all the drama students did.” 

“Well, well,” I say with a grin, then laugh as he spins me gently once more, causing my dress to twirl around me. 

We continue to dance, my movements becoming more confident as the awkwardness fades away and I give in to the joy of the moment. I catch sight of a few onlookers smiling at us, but I forget all about them when the music shifts to a slower, more romantic melody, and Richard pulls me even closer. One of his arms is now wrapped around my waist while he intertwines the fingers of his other hand with mine, cradling it between our bodies against his chest. 

“See? You’re getting the hang of it,” he says, the low rumble of his voice, combined with his warm closeness, sending a thrill through me.

“You make it easy,” I chuckle, losing myself once more in his deep blue eyes. 

Richard smiles, leaning down to brush his lips against mine in a tender kiss, and the busy square around us disappears—the whole world disappears—and time stands still, leaving only the two of us, happy and carefree in each others’ arms as stars shine in the sky overhead as they do so every night, constant and unchanging. Under their watchful eyes, I think of how much has changed in the past year and how much uncertainty lies ahead. But wrapped in Richard’s arms, I can truly believe that our love will weather the difficult year ahead and any other challenges that will come our way in the future, remaining just as constant and unchanging.

As we continue to sway in each other’s arms, the music picks up again, transitioning to a lively tune that draws laughter from a nearby group of onlookers. The spell of the moment breaks, and I glance up at Richard, who seems equally caught between the remnants of our private world and the bustling square around us.

“Shall we?” Richard says, slowly disentangling himself from me but still holding onto my hand. 

With a soft smile, I nod and follow him across the square, but Richard pauses by the violinist. He fishes out his wallet, pulling out a generous tip, and places it into the open violin case with a nod of thanks. The musician gives him a warm smile, never missing a beat, and Richard turns back to me, his eyes bright with affection.

“This holiday just keeps getting better and better,” he muses with a smile. 

I smile in return. “Agreed,” I say, reaching for his hand again and leading him onto the narrow street to our flat.

trying to remember my dream.... mostly it was a message that i need to watch conclave for real. our cast of characters:

mother: former prostitute who cleaned up her act. formidable presence. german, i believe? has friends in high places. could it be because she knows a lot and is using this knowledge as leverage?

daughter: her teenage daughter named maria lucia. grew up with her mother in relative poverty. fluent in german and italian (maybe english too? it wasn't relevant no-one was speaking english) but had never been to italy before. devout catholic. curious, kind, and excitable. interested in art and architecture. worker in an ice cream shop in germany and plans to do so in italy.

pope: also called francis, but idk if it's the pope francis. certainly healthier than pope francis, probably a bit younger too. focused mostly on alleviating poverty, human trafficking. to maria lucia, THE #1 celebrity.

cardinal: relatively young and handsome. helps maria lucia and her mother move to italy from germany. he knows maria lucia's mother - he was a bishop in germany, i think, who was part of an organisation helping women leave prostitution/helping former prostitutes. he has A Big Secret - not sure what it is. he either had an affair with maria lucia's mother or he's gay. it is not clear.

anyway most of the dream has already been revealed. the cardinal is helping this mother and daughter from germany secure an apartment in rome that is modest, but infinitely nicer than what they are used to.

maria lucia is ecstatic - she is from some small, ugly, nameless town in germany with nothing going on, she has never even been to berlin, she has never been on a plane, and now she is in rome! in a flat very near the vatican! THE best place to be if you're a devoutly catholic teenage girl who speaks perfect italian and is passionate about art and architecture.

she is talking cocainely fast, asking 500 questions about every building and art piece while the cardinal shows her and her mother around. she also asks if there are any gelaterias where she might secure employment. the cardinal decides to do this girl for whom pope francis is the #1 pop star by telling her she should pop down and drop her cv at this one gelateria which he knows the pope frequents.

she does so, and the pope just so happens to be there. she's like omgpopefrancisi'myourbiggestfanijustmovedherefromgermanywithmymumomgpopefrancisiloveyou. all cocainely fast. and pope francis is like ah yes you must be maria lucia... cardinal [insert name] has told me all about you. maria lucia might as well faint the pope knows her name!!!!

also aside from the art and architecture she is incredibly enthralled by shops that sell clerical clothing she's like omg i want it... would that be heretical.... she is the sweetest girl ever i honestly grew quite attached to her throughout this dream. but yeah this whole time there is also something weird going on between maria lucia's mother and the young (so like. maybe in his 50s) cardinal something hinting at larger political intrigue...

but also this whole time i was having the weird 75 stress dreams i have been having since i started layered on where i accidentally eat something i oughtn't be eating and have to start all over

ANYWAYSSSSS im going to talk about the kiru/kara friendship because ive been thinking about them the past few days 😙 not a big lore post so much as just a bunch of disjointed ideas but you know meee I love to talk! so it will be a lot

first and foremost i think kara is probably the brother who is most intrigued by kiru being a native english speaker. he finds out one day when he's bragging about studying it in his free time to seem ~cool~ to her, and when she replies like "yeah i can tell you're working really hard!! people at your level usually struggle way more with rhotics but you seem to be doing really well with them :-)" kara gets about three seconds into his thank you before he's like Wait how do you know this. which is when he finds out she's not only fluent, but there was a time when she struggled with japanese even more than english!

after this revelation, I think they kinda become linguistics buddies, since kiru has been looking for someone to practice her english with other than family for a long time so she can stay sharp between visits and phone calls with her family in chichijima, and kara just needs someone to practice with in general. she likes to give him little pop quizzes on english phrases and grammar when they're waiting for a train/bus/someone to get ready so they can go somewhere, and kara takes it as an excuse to watch english movies with her so he can see how much of it he understands and sharpen up in some spots. kiru, known cinephile, is OVERJOYED to have someone she can show her favorites to

linguistics aside, though, i think kara feels a bit more at liberty to actually banter with kiru with playful insults about one anothers tastes since they're somewhat similar in that regard anyways. like kiru tries on his jacket and starts posing like johnny bravo, and he's like "damn you're making fun of me? with that mullet? crazy"<- he wouldn't say it like that but you know. the spirit of it. they both know they're cut from the same cloth in terms of tastes, so they feel more comfortable making fun of each other for it (even though kara has since glitter-glued every inch of the cloth he was cut from)

ooh follow-up questions based on that tenodera culture thing you posted— if there’s a specific tenodera language, is that, like, General Bug language or do different types of bugs have differing languages (or is it more based on what planet they’re from)? also im assuming solis probably knows tenodera language because the saint does, but when he’s talking to his students/aboard the station, is there a universal language that they’re using or is it ~translator magic~?

It’s tenodera-specific! The other bug types would have their own because different types of sounds are more inherent to them. I haven’t thought about the differences at length, but an obvious one is bees and their buzzing but also their dancing/emotive language. I think the bee language is probably a lot like ASL in that it depends a lot on gestures and expressions, for example. And yeah, even within one bug species, the language would be different from planet to planet.

And Solis does know the tenodera language, yeah! His Saint has deliberately distanced himself from nearly every element of his old life, though, so neither of them ever use it. It’s a skill his Saint asked the technicians not to bother with, but whatever languages you speak/understand are given to your Apostle by default and there’s no getting around that, so the Apostle ended up with this knowledge anyway. He’s fluent in a language he never uses.

The religion in this setting is pretty unsubtley a parallel to Catholicism, so a lot of its real-world problems apply. It’s a mainly white ena-cardian religion from the setting equivalent of Earth that has slithered its horrible tendrils all over the universe and made itself dominant, so the “common tongue” of the setting is English. (I didn’t rename all this stuff, so I’ll just keep calling it what it is in this post.)

A lot of the characters actually are speaking it (our protagonists, in particular; River is from the setting equivalent of the US), but some characters are definitely going the “Babel fish” route and have technology helping them in both directions. Knowing how to speak English is a pretty significant advantage in getting yourself into the station circuit, though, as they would really rather not make language/translation device accommodations for you and you’re not allowed to bring your own.

So, TLDR: yeah, Solis is verbally speaking English and most of the other characters are, too.

Coly, the company behind Mahoyaku and Stand My Heroes, have announced a new game. Some friends and I realized that despite looking somewhat generic at first glance, it's got a handful of intriguing things going on with it! So here's a quick kind of long introduction to/my thoughts on Break My Case!

First: the website! The music on the site is really good! Go listen while you read this post!! There are 12 people listed as composers in the credits page, and it seems most every VA involved has at least a bit of experience with singing or music projects. The tone is a bit dark for a rhythm game (though I'm not ruling that out entirely), but otherwise it seems like there's gonna be a music focus. Cool! As far as other staff goes--the main scenario writer is also the writer of Stand My Heroes, and the character designer is Utako Yukihiro, who also did some work for B-Project.

The story concerns a cafe with a myriad of eccentric employees that runs an after-hours service where they solve problems. The exact nature of all this is left pretty vague.

And the draw for a game like this: The characters! Interestingly, they're divided into different departments at the cafe. What exactly those departments do isn't clear yet. As for the characters themselves--the more we looked at them, the more we liked them, lol. Quick summaries about what intrigued us about each guy. Note that these are not translations, none of us are fluent in Japanese (we all know just enough to get by with the google+jisho combo lol), and this should all be taken with a grain of salt.

The Main Office, consisting of Ai Kosaka, Yuzuru Kise, and Roka Suoh. (Names are listed in western given-family order because that's what the site uses for romanized names.) Roka is the one who owns the cafe, is the oldest character in the bunch at 36, and is that fun "mysterious guy with unknown backstory and an endless amount of weird acquaintances, who acts incompetent but might actually be hypercompetent" type of trope.

On account of the whole acting-incompetent thing, Ai and Yuzuru run the actual cafe business. And normally I won't be including fullbody character art in this post but I have to make an exception just this once.

Anyways.

Tumblr won't let me put four images in a row. Come on man. I wanna maintain the BMC's site style. Why are you mean to me. Anyways. The Simulation Department, consisting of Kou Ayato, Mao Ukyo, Akehoshi Hinomiya, and Yuragi Kanno. "Simulation" is its English name given on the site, but the Japanese given would probably read more like "relationship department".

Kou is a footloose playboy and Mao is a serious intellectual type, but apparently Kou will ask Mao to pretend to be his girlfriend so that he can avoid trouble with women. That's gay. I love that. (Mao is a guy [as far as we know], he just likes makeup--he's not the only one in that cast who does, either!) We all want Mao's outfit.

Akehoshi was a sleeper hit in the group chat, because his bio has a sentence about how he's the most normal-looking-yet-dangerous employee at the cafe, and also explicitly describes him as being like a dog, and naturally we all went crazy for the silly puppy as soon as we realized that he was in fact a silly puppy. Yuragi, on the other hand, likes cats. Such a classic for his character design trope, lmao.

The Administrative Department, consisting of Taiga Tsukimoto, Haruhi Ichikawa, and Sei Okiya. Taiga looks cool but if you look at his fullbody he's wearing awful sweatpants and apparently he cries while watching anime. I love this for him. Haruhi is a streamer because that's like an obligatory character trope now I guess. Sei was very popular in the group chat for being the single most suspicious character in the cast. What's his problem.

The Watchdog Department (or enforcement department, if you translate the jpn) consists of Shizuka Fushimi, Takeru Mikado, Soyogu Shinkai, and Shinobu Aizawa.

My friend described Shizuka as a "wet looking glasshole" and yeah. ok. unfortunately he does look like that. But it's ok he's allowed because his bio says he prefers quiet, orderly places with plants and no people and keeps to himself in common spaces but his own room is a complete mess. AKA he's an autism king. So I like him.

Takeru was obviously a hit because look at them. Takeru and Mao talk about makeup together, apparently. CUTE! Shinobu is the most fashionable guy in the cast and his bio says he has a few screws loose, which is amazing. Good for him. I have nothing to say about Soyogu I think I forgot he existed until I was putting this post together and I only looked at these all guys a few hours ago

The Negotiation Department, with Kiho Arima, Kyoya Shido, and Riku Tateshina. I described this group as "grandma, grandpa, and Columbo" and then the group chat couldn't call any of them anything else. And I do mean grandma. Because. ok. another fullbody. Because oh my god we have to look at Kiho.

GIRL. WHAT. IS. THAT. YOU'RE WEARING A CARPET. YOU'RE WEARING A COUCH. kiho is apparently a fortune teller and my friend acted as if this excused the outfit but i DONT agree i don't think anything excuses this. WHAT IS THAAAAAT

Kyoya is an artist and Riku is a psychologist so honestly this is a really fun bunch of jobs going on in this department. Riku is described as someone who falls in love easily, and he's most interested in Ai (from the Main Office, the very first guy in this post). We couldn't tell if the implication there is that he's in love with Ai, or if he falls in love with random people and yet his true attention always drifts back to Ai. Both of these options are gay.

The ST (special tasks) Department, with Yomose Onda, Yu Nina, Kamiya, and Urara Manami.

Yu had his life saved by Tomose and has now dedicated himself to him, to the point of being ready to die for him. YOU GOTTA LOVE THAT. INCREDIBLE TROPE. UNBEATABLE. GAY AS HELL. All we know from Tomose's side is that he's "fond" of Yu. That's fine I'm sure you can learn to love him. Or learn to hate him. Whatever's more entertaining.

Kamiya has no memory, hence the singular name. I'm sure whatever's going on there is weird and interesting. Urara is the youngest character, at 20. THAT'S RIGHT. THE YOUNGEST CHARACTER IS 20. THERE ARE ZERO TEENAGERS! THE AVERAGE CHARACTER AGE IS AROUND 26. THIS SHOULDN'T BE AS NOTABLE AS IT IS BUT THAT'S GACHA GAMES FOR YOU. Anyways I like Urara because I think he looks like an angry kitty.

Anyways, that's the gist of what we know about BMC--or BreMai, if you wanna go for something closer to the jpn abbreviation--right now. More info might drop at/around Animate Girls Fest, since they seem to be giving out game beta codes there. I don't know if I'm completely sold on it just yet--coly did just have a detective-themed gacha game fail a few months ago with &0. But we're not even completely sure it is a gacha yet, or what kind of gameplay it might have otherwise, so... there's a bit of hope. Maybe it'll be a weird cool dark rhythm game! Who knows!!!

He is not white. no. no don't look at the game. or the comics. or anything else related to engineer tf2. you cannot see that man at night. he's too much of a southern-black-mother-haver to be white. who cares about his dad, his MOM was BLACK. Polite, mildly violent when he needs to be, intelligent? His momma not white you can't change me.

Soldier: Native/Black. Mother Inuit and father African, OG last name Domoraud, got shortened to Doe through Immigration; OG first name was Amaqjuaq, but his parents had to choose a name on the spot. He has many identity issues, don't ask. Never takes off his helmet 'cause he doesn't like his monolids.Very touchy about the subject of race because where he lived was probably nearly as bad as Texas in terms of racism, feels he needs to devote every waking second to America or else he doesn't belong there. Yeah. He needs a bit of help. Has a weird accent but he hides it pretty well. Wow I rambled there...

Spy: Black/asian. Wow I really just dipped Tf2 into charcoal, didn't I? Didn't realize how many of them I Poc-ified until I put it down on paper. His mom was an asian woman, very stern, but she had a soft spot for her gender-weird kid. Dad was a black man, sweetheart, but he wasn't good at caring for people. Mother was a ballet star and taught him, he fucking mastered it. Broke his hip and disabled himself for life, but mastered it. Somehow he dramatizes it even more that it already was, and what actually happened was already halfway out a soap opera.

Sniper: Native. Māroi biological and Aboriginal Aussie Adoptive. He's Native on top of Native. Family spoke Antakarinya at home and he taught himself Māroi. Like Soldier, he has identity issues because languages and cultures get jumbled up in his head sometimes. Hates getting told he can't participate in Aboriginal activities because he isn't actually related to his parents. "BITCH? I WAS RAISED DOING THIS SHIT?" Is very passionate about his culture, especially his Antakarinya, because that is a language two breaths from death.

Scout: Black/white. LIGHTSKIN. CHEERIO-LOOKIN' MOTHERFUCKER. LITTLE E-FUCK-FEMBOY ASS. Soon as he pull out that fried chicken he's in a chick's panties. No explanation because you don't need one.

Pyro: Black. Heavy Nigerian accent, even when their speech isn't muffled people can barely understand them at times. Doesn't have the best english pronunciation, but their voice is jacked up anyways, so it doesn't matter. Fluent in American and British ASL despite this. Big person, bigger heart. 6'7'' 265 LB person with a voice deep enough to hit the Earth's core skipping around in Kidcore Aesthetic™️ and putting stickers on everything.

Demo: Black. we all know buddy. Although I feel like the Scottish are so on a different plane of being that they should be their own race. Black/Scottish. Very smart and has multiple degrees in chemistry and he drinks so much his blood has turned into pure alcohol. Scottish behavior. He wears kilts often, but sadly wears pants under his most times because they're. yknow. on a battle ground. But I think it's a shame. Can you tell I am getting tired.

Medic: I don't fuckin know. German. His race is Germany. The whole country. You ask him his race because his skin is very swarthy so you can't tell whether he's a really tan white guy or a weirdly light black guy. He's a pacific islander/white mix, but he actually barely knows. He'll remember his mother was Polynesian and go Oh. I forgor [Insert skull emoji and a facebook minion meme about mortality}.

Heavy: Black/white mix. He got his mother's beauty marks and his dad's bulkiness. Weird genes, very light but he has very pronounced black facial features. Big nose, big lips, high cheekbones. He gets asked if he's albino more than you would think. People actually don't expect him to have such a heavy Siberian accent because you expect white Vodka twink or white vodka dad that sneezes real fucking hard to have that much of a accent, not the guy that looks like he came out of a Nella Larsen book.
