AP scores just came out so I can finally share my portfolio! Of course this isn’t all of it since tumblr only allows ten photos on a post but these are the nine I’m most proud of and couldn’t potentially share too much information about me. I’m so enamored I got a 5!
My sustained investigation explored how hair styles and textures impact our perception of people and the way people view themselves. I’d love to gush all about what each piece means so I’ll be doing that in the comments.

What is an Ap portfolio topic? What sort of question do you ask? what was your question? I’m starting AP studio art next Tuesday but I’m not really sure what I’m getting into.
an ap portfolio topic is something you choose if you’re doing a sustained investigation! it’s basically a theme you’re using to guide the direction of your portfolio. you can ask any question, but you’re mainly choosing one that you can answer creatively through art.
for example, my question was essentially “what would fantasy creatures be like in the modern day?” and i answered this question by exploring how monsters and fantasy creatures adapt to modern day activities, like for example a cyclops wearing glasses or a mermaid in a theater.
i have had classmates choose topics like “escapism” or “stages of grief” or even “stuff i hate” and run with those. basically, just choose something you think you can get a lot of ideas out of. they don’t have to be deep or depressing!

The Haitian Spirits in my AP 2D Portfolio
Sephora, one of many talented bloggers, reflects on her amazing 2D AP Art portfolio from her senior year of high school. Sephora uses plenty of materials, from graphite and watercolor, to even digital art, she displays a beautiful variety of work.
Hello dear readers! It’s me, Sephora bringing you a different kind of content! Now that winter break is finally upon us as Marywood, I can share some of the work I am proud of/ working on and shamelessly hype myself up on here! So, to start strong I want to talk about my AP 2D Art and Design portfolio! In high school, usually in senior year and if provided by the school, many artists have the…

RAMMSTEIN - Teacher AU: what subject they teach
Okay… I know some of this isn’t very realistic, especially as this takes an American perspective on school. But…
I do what I want lmao
BUT Rammstein as teachers has been infecting my brain for a fat minute now. Ever since I read this one fic on ao3 I’ve been dying. I needed to get this out. And lord knows I have more to say than just this one little imagine post. So if you’re interested, PLEASE let me know. I won’t shut up about it then.
Tumblr media
TILL LINDEMANN - Vocational Education
Teaches woodworking, metals, and automotive technology. He does it all so classes are pretty sparse. And hard to get into…
He likes the idea that the kids who are seeking out his classes are the ones who are truly interested in the subject. Especially since his classes are decently difficult to get into.
And honestly being a more specialized teacher, he has more freedom to do as he wishes when it comes to the syllabus and activities done in the classroom.
I mean who else in the school is going to know what to teach in that position besides him?
No one.
So he does as he wants!
He definitely holds extra workshops during his free period or before/after school.
PAUL LANDERS - Band/ Orchestra
He has the degree to teach all sorts of performing arts but he really embraced teaching band and orchestra. He’s always been a music guy.
Very supportive to his students! Always making sure they find the right instrument to play if they’re just starting out.
Or showing them different pieces or artists to keep students engaged and exploring music!
One of the more eccentric teachers of the bunch.
But because of that the students absolutely LOVE him. Like they beg to sit in the band room to eat lunch. (Which is against the rules) but he agrees anyways.
Also sponsors the fall play and spring musical with Flake and Richard. Mainly in charge of the music and band, but definitely helps Richard with the casting and auditions.
CHRISTOPH SCHNEIDER - History/ Social Studies
Rigid exterior, soft when you get through to him. Students either love or hate him. NO in between.
He prefers to teach AP European history, AP World history, or AP Psychology. He likes it when the students are actually there because they’re interested, not because the class is required.
Like I said before, students either love or hate him. So they either avoid him like the plague or they follow him like a cult.
Honestly, he likes his alone time, so he’ll 100% lock his door during lunch time so none of the students who enjoy him will bother him.
Hands out a shit ton of homework.
Also has no patience or sympathy for troublemakers. He looks like he got two hours of sleep the night before, don’t test him.
FLAKE LORENZ - Visual Arts
Teaches basic arts classes like 2D arts, and 3D arts. But he also delves into the more complex classes like AP drawing/painting, advanced ceramics, and AP art history.
He likes each class for its own reasons, but his favorite is advanced ceramics. He loves the freedom and loves seeing all the interesting designs and pieces the students make.
Also, just like Schneider and Till, he likes that the classes besides basic 2D and 3D arts are sought after because the students actually take interest in the subject matter
Definitely the kind of teacher who fosters a calm environment. Students are allowed to wear headphones but no music playing out in the open.
More often than not sits beside his students and works on pieces of his own!
He also works closely with Paul and Richard when it comes to the school plays and musicals. He helps make backdrops and props. Definitely groans and moans about it, but in the end he loves seeing his work on the stage. Even if it’s on an incredibly amateur level.
RICHARD KRUSPE - Language arts and English
Teaches English language classes, advanced creative writing, speech, and AP literature and composition. Yeah he forced some other unlucky teacher to take on the basic creative writing classes.
He didn’t want to deal with the dumb brats who can’t write or spell. Fuck them kids.
He enjoys speech and English the most, he definitely likes the way the kids squirm when they’re forced to stand up front and speak.
Not a big fan of homework. He honestly neglects grading so he just makes it easy and gives out a one page worksheet, nothing crazy.
Helps with casting and oversight with the students in the plays and musicals. He enjoys helping with lines and memorization!
OLIVER RIEDEL - Buisness/ Computer classes
Teaches intro to business, personal finance, AP business management, and typing/basic computer applications.
He likes that it’s decently laid back. That if there’s a problem, there’s always an answer. Press the “A” key and “A” will appear. You know?
Questions in his class are pretty self explanatory and the guides he gives for the students to work through, aren’t too hard at all.
It’s decently hard to not pass his class.
I mean… shit… there’s no homework. None.
He’s pretty reserved, so it’s not often students talk to him for anything besides questions. Which for the most part he doesn’t mind. But when there’s that one rare student who actually gives a shit about how his day is going, it definitely makes him smile.

AP classes that I think the glee characters would take (as an AP student who is losing their mind)
Rachel: she would probably take a lot of APs because she canonically is an academic weapon but her favorite is AP Music Theory. I could also see her being the most annoying person in AP seminar
Kurt: AP art history, Ap Music Theory & Ap 3d Art (fashion focused portfolio)
Quinn: same as Rachel, she would take a lot of APs but she is definitely a AP Psych and AP Lit girlie
Mercedes: AP Music Theory with Rachel and Kurt
Tina: AP Human Geo, Ap 2d Art and Design (photography portfolio) in my mind Tina does photography and she’s really good at it
Santana: AP Spanish she is already fluent and just took it to boost her GPA and do nothing all class
Artie: AP US History, AP World, AP Euro, AP Calc AB, AP physics (he’s a nerd)
Everyone else wouldn’t take any APs I think

Hi! First of all, I just wanted to say that your show looks super fun! But onto the question- I'm a huge fan of books, movies, shows, and, well, storytelling in general, and I especially love hearing about the different ways creators come up with their ideas. So how did you come up with the idea for your series? Did it start with one character in particular, or a premise, or a twist on some other pre-existing media?
I LOVE THIS QUESTION!! Zipped Up was initially conceptualized for my AP 2D Art and Design exam in my Junior year of high school! The characters in the series were created throughout the years I was in high school (from 2020 to 2023). I always knew I wanted to make a cartoon that was fun for all ages, specifically fun for kids, as I grew up with cartoons similar! It wasn't until my Senior year of high school that I began to really invest in making Zipped Up an animated series. Although we're only working on the pilot for Zipped Up, I already have an idea of how I want the entire series to play out. It's all up to you guys, the audience, whether or not that first season will happen! Thank you all so much for the endless support!! <3 <3 :-)

hunger (everything eats and is eaten; time is fed)
my first attempt at printmaking!! really happy with how this turned out :) this is the first piece for my ap 2d art and design class where i'm following maslow's hierarchy of needs to explore emotions within myself and other creatures. this was particularly inspired by adrianne lenker's lyrics in ingydar!
sorry for the bad quality lol

2024 retrospective and 2025 goals
this is the censored version of this post. for full images, check out the full free post on subscribestar!
hi :)
Tumblr media
i'm really happy with everything i achieved in 2024. it was my first year illustrating full time, meaning no school and no salaried job on the side (believe me i tried to get one) and i'm happy to report i did not die! fuck yes. i even illustrated for 7 (i think) art books, designed merch for 2 and organised my first collab fanbook.
Tumblr media
from top left clockwise: michael deforge, anna haifisch, Michel Esselbrügge, CLAMP, saul bass, jon whitcomb, rene gruau, paul rand, molly fairhurst
at the beginning of 2024 i made this moodboard for influences i wanted to incorporate into my work more, they are pretty much the same faves ive had for years but i just wanted to have them in front of me and start deliberately choosing elements to ape.
i'd say i basically want to incorporate more 2D cartoon graphic elements combined with detailed, realistic, delicately rendered characters, more theatric background design and props... features like borders etc. the thing about a moodboard is unless you print it out and put it up by your desk it will sort of slide to the back of your mind which is what i think happened w mine LOL. cuz looking at this now im like well i didnt really hit all these ideas but i did inch closer.
Tumblr media
the first pic here is sth i drew immediately after making the board and i like it but it does feel like a slightly clumsy attempt at mashing stuff together... i wouldn't say that it shows i dont understand whats appealing about the work i was referencing (even though thats how it looks), its more like the picture goes in an unexpected direction while making it LOL. but that's part of the fun. whereas in my mind the 2nd pic spiritually embodies the ideas of the ppl i'm trying to copy. even tho visually it's still a ways off. its probably my favourite thing i drew all year? :) though that's hard to say bcus i'm so pleased w so many other pieces especially those u can see on my summary pic!!!
i have a few more artists i wanna add to my board and then i will definitely print it this time so i can look at it every day instead of just twice a year LOL.
Tumblr media
another thing im really pleased about is the number of comics i drew in 2024. i have this odd relationship with comics where i do draw them and have for years and im more or less decent at them but i act like drawing them mortally wounds me. like im so dramatic... i do partially believe the only way ill ever be able to complete a longform comic is through abusing stimulants but you know ill also never find out if i keep crawling off to die after inking a page. i see a lot of illustrators suffering when approaching comics from the illustration mindset of making beautiful pictures instead of the comics mindset of making finished pictures, but u know, im extremely slapdash as an illustrator and im also proud enough to believe im a guy that can do both, so its really time i act like it... basically just shut up and draw. i want to apply this especially to perspective drawing/panel backgrounds, which im, like, fine at. honestly fine at. i do think i trip myself up because i want to be the next dostoevsky or beyonce or whatever, i want to be great, but have to remember the most anyone can do is aspire to express something from your inner world. everything else is secondary.
Tumblr media
one thing i learned the hard way is how hard it is to have work life balance when you work from your bedroom and 'monestise your hobby'... you know, the thing everyone has been warning each other about for years. turns out its real. its super confusing when so many elements of your work bleed into your social life, physical health, leisure time etc -- like i go online for fun, and also to promote myself. so wheres the distinction? i watch movies for entertainment but also for research... ive definitely felt like ive been working around the clock or my job has consumed my life at points. but i think being stricter with my work hours is the way forward. it truly is shaytan at the wheel when u answer an email at 3AM... no more of this!
Tumblr media
and tied into this is being realistic about what i can achieve in a day and not feeling ashamed or that i need to do more... i get stuck in this silly loop that's like... 'i believe everyone should work 4 hours a day, but because other people are stuck working 40 hours a week i should also be making myself do that' and then i work myself into a flare up and wreck my work ethic and enjoyment. u can laugh... i know it doesnt make sense. well i wont do it any more. because i CANT... because i will DIE... some days i work 4 hours. some days i work 6. some days i work half an hour... it doesnt matter as long as stuff gets done.. and it does.
also want to talk about my chronic pain and hypermobility... after a year of lifting weights i am stunned to let u know ive actually improved. unfortunately i dont look anything like the rock and i still cant do a real push up but im stronger and have more stamina and suffer from way less zaps and aches and numbness, which was unthinkable before. i only really noticed after taking a trip and doing different activities (painting walls) that i can physically do a lot more than i usually do at home. but also my house is fucking cold so its hard to do anything for anyone. hoping for warmer days and big muscles to come.
Tumblr media
some of my other art goals are to work more on paper whenever i can. i used to have a huge stack of newsprint on my drawing board underneath my ipad and id doodle and test ideas on that paper before drawing it digitally. i wanna do that again. many people find its easier to 'think' on paper and im the same. whenever i have an idea i wanna go 'what would this look like on paper?' and then find out.
i want to be thinking about composition and storytelling more in my illustrations, as in, think cinematic, movie posters, communicating big ideas. even if that idea is only as big as 'this blue looks great with this orange'... i want to make more stuff that looks like promotional material for my stories. of course behind every movie poster is 100,000 thumbnails and sketches and half-finished ideas. i want to remember that and not be hard on myself for drawing girl in profile #997.
i want to draw more autobio comics, just to be drawing more comics and also to look back on and know what i was doing that day. nothing fancy. a lot of people are doing that gentle comics habit this year and i fear my competitive nature may get me into it too.
i have more books i wanna create which ive talked about at length in my last diary entry and for now i think that's enough goals thank you very much. thank you for reading this far and for all your support. happy new year! love you x

ap classes ranked by how badly they made me want to drop out
ap art history -- i was sobbing crying nightly trying to memorise 'tamati waka nene' to the tune of africa by shakira
ap us history -- it moved incredibly slowly at times and incredibly quickly over the interesting bits. tell me why we spent no time at the revolutionary war and spent three weeks talking about cold war economics
ap world history -- don't ask me about the ottomans if you want to see me happy and content
ap 2d art an design -- spent a month straight trying to scrape my portfolio together on college board. it kept deleting my progress. and each image took like 3 hours to format and load. so happy it was over. liked the drawing bit though
ap language -- very chill!! liked writing essays and reading the news. never got complexity but i resigned myself to it :(
ap European history -- honestly really fun. machiavelli is my bro. napoleon is my babygirl. leonardo da Vinci is gay
