"Everything went wrong after David Bowie died" "everything went wrong after the Reformation"
Me, whose Metaphysics studies and medievalist interests have been heavily shaped by Dominicans: everything went wrong after Ockham et al. sustained the primacy of Will before Good in the nature of God.
#Theology#Christianity#Catholicism#it's funny because it's one of those discussions that sound extremely Byzantine#But if Good precedes Will in God then God's Will is primarily good#and its goodness must be discerned rationally by the creature#but if Will precedes Goodness then good is essentially and substantially arbitrary#God could have perfectly chosen to create a world where murder is always a good and heroic action#or where one's first duty is to make everyone's lives as miserable as possible#And that would be literally good and the good in such a world because God so willed it#such an understanding of the primacy of will on the ontological order leads to an understanding of reality as dominated by power#and in that scheme self-serving manipulations of religion and Scripture are not only easy but rationally justified#that's the where and why of Benedict XVI's motto being cooperatores veritatis#the cooperators or servants of truth#because Truth cannot be possesed and used#it can only be sought and followed after#in honesty and humility#which again ties back to the supremacy of good (and its transcendental truth) in the metaphysical order#EDIT: this is also where strain-the-mosquito-swallow-the-camel legalistic attitudes come from#Because if what's good is what is defined by the will of God as expressed in textual commands#then any comprehensive rational inquisitive reading is out of the question#and will-infused casuistry is in#Biblical literalism can only thrive in this sort of tradition#“where does it say in the Bible that [insert hyperspecific thing...”#but it's also the environment in which the kind of attitude denounced in pharisees#as sticking to precepts without embracing the moral good that sustains them#and so twisting said precepts to their own convenience

what really fucks me up about a death in the family is that, beyond the fact that jason's death was determined by vote, the fact people could vote as many times as they liked, the closeness of the margin, etc.
it's that the vote wasn't for 'does batman get there in time to save jason' it was for 'when bruce digs through that blown up warehouse, does he find a corpse or a living body.' the vote is for 'does jason get to have enough plot armor to survive getting beaten with a crowbar and then blown up'
either way, batman is too late. he was always going to be too late.

Atla live action 😐
#thats my honest reaction 😐#to be fair ive only seen 20 minutes of the s1 finale bc my parents are watching it but. mmmmm kinda mid#like. the casting is definitely an improvement since the last time they tried a live action but it feels like the writing falls flat#or maybe im being harsh bc ive only heard negative criticism on it beforehand. but fr anytime u bring up the original its already#good and not just because its the original. so much fucking detail went into it to the point of someone noticing azula wielding mai's knive#to how well thought out irohs character is used as a way of uniting the cast especially as zukos foil#i heard that sokkas sexism was toned down and i have to agree that feels like a cheap move. like i get WHY they think it would be better#but its not about how that reflects on real world its about how it affects the story. sokka starts out as a misogynistic asshole because#it makes it that much more impactful when he changes. toning that down makes it flatter and makes his character development weak#and someone pointed out they didnt even make him wear the kyoshi warrior uniform and i know it feels like such a small detail but#come on man. they did that in the original because not only does it help him really walk in their shoes - wearing 'feminine' clothing and#makeup and having suki explain its significance but it also ties in with the shows theme of harmony and intersectionality#i was also disappointed when they had the fire sages explain how the water tribe draws power from the moon because in the original it was#IROH who explained it to aang and everyone else BECAUSE we as the audience is under the impression hes with the 'bad guys'#and it builds up to how he learned from the other nations which reconciles his past as a war general and his character overall#AND its an excellent starting point for the cast and audience to understand how the nations arent as closed off as you would think#plus you would think its only fire nation doing propaganda but they expanded on that with earth kingdom censorship and it WORKS#a lot of things in the live action also feel arbitrary like. they gave momo a near death experience for 5 minutes for no reason#im firmly on the stance of bringing back filler moments instead of putting major events right after each other so that u give your#audience a sense of time passing and to really absorb the story. but i think thats more like shock value than filler and yeah its a small#thing to gripe about but those things build up and its really annoying. the thing abt avatar filler moments is that however small#its at least meaningful. hell even the beach episode emphasizes how isolated zuko and his friends are as child soldiers#i also swore to never watch the first live action since it was that bad but i really liked the stylized tattoos they used for aang#anyway. those arejust my thoughts. im not gonna watch the rest because im a ride or die for the original aftr growing up and#rewatching it at least 20 times as a kid. but theres definitely room for improvement and i wish ppl wouldnt take it as 'better' just cuz#netflix is adapting it. i wouldve killed for them to just reanimate the entire avatar series and touch NOTHING ELSE no redub#no changes to the story. just reanimate the thing and leave the rest alone and youd make easy money just the same#ALSO its very jarring not hearing jack desena and dante basco voicing sokka and zuko cause their voices were the most recognizable to me#i get that its because its live action but im allowed to feel a little sad abt that. and uncle irohs accent was really soothing#yapping

So in S3E18, they have to go through a door that only lets the pure of heart through. Snow and Charming go through without any trouble, but Regina only steps through and sees the other side of the door. But I actually expected the show to make it so that Snow couldn’t go through—after all, so much time has been spent recently focusing on her regret over killing Cora, and there was that scene in S2 where Regina shows her her heart and it has a seed of darkness. So…has that gone away or something? Why is Regina not pure of heart and Snow and Charming are?
The Witch of the South says that Regina’s heart is heavy with vengeance and only good witches of light magic can come through—so is being pure of heart a temporary thing? If Regina gave up her want for vengeance in the moment she stepped through would she be considered of pure heart?

I forced my mom to agree to watch the live action with me WAYYYY back when the first teaser came out, and she usually hates anime because the animation style and it being in Japanese makes her feel disconnected. She was willing to watch opla but only because it would make me happy. Well we watched the first two episodes last night and now I have been BANNED from watching episode 3 without her. Luffy got another one folks!

see like the thing is I absolutely agree copyright laws are bullshit and need to be changed like asap I just also think Only very poorly regulated technology being able to break them because it’s not being regulated even in that very simple way while everyone else deals with bullshit copyright laws is an even worse situation. if copyright laws aren’t going to be changed it should Not be only random tech developers allowed to break them for no reason.

what exactly do you think erotic art is for if not arousal
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
like. is there a language barrier here? are you sure you are using words the same way as everyone else?
at best the difference in some dictionaries is merely that pornagraphy is a subset of erotica that "has no artistic value," a completely subjective evaluation that tends to be applied to hardcore erotica without any reflection at all regardless of its content.
more people need to give themselves permission to write and draw pornography

One thing I enjoy about bloodborne is the psychological aspect. If you want to survive the hunt, you need particular outlooks and philosophies to act as psychic insulation against the pervasive madness. The madness isn't arbitrary, it's a tightrope.
You have to enjoy hunting enough that you will not hesitate, but you can't enjoy it too much, or you go blood-drunk. You need to be curious, but sober enough to know when to look away, lest you get brain worms. You need to treat it like a job to the point where you can compartmentalize, but not enough that you're easily manipulated by greed. You have to embody humanity through dress and action, but not so much that you become an arrogant zealot obsessed with purity.
Im not really going anywhere with this, that's just such an interesting way to define your protagonist. Especially for a story so obsessed with gothic excess and uberviolence.

High Court of Patna Reinstates Natural Justice, Awards Rs. 5 Lakhs Compensation for Wrongful Termination
The Appellant was not served with a show cause notice to defend herself violates the principles of Natural Justice hence High Court of Patna Quashed the Termination order of the Aganbari Sewika.
The termination was made solely on the grounds of pending criminal charges and the appellant was acquitted of the criminal charges therefore it is deemed inappropriate when she is acquitted.
Since the third-party interest was already created hence reinstatement was not feasible. The Court balanced the need for justice for the appellant by directing compensation instead.
Shubhadra Kumari v. The State of Bihar and 6 others
Letters Patent Appeal 828/2019
Before the High Court of Patna
Heard by Hon'ble Mr. Justice P B Bajanthri & Hon'ble Mr. Justice Alok Kumar Pandey J
Fact:
Shubhadra Kumari, was selected as an Anganbari Sevika in 2003. She was implicated in a criminal case in 2013, as such she was terminated in 2014 by the District Programme Officer (DPO) of Nalanda. Her termination was upheld by the Deputy Director (Welfare) of Patna Division in 2014. Subhadra Kumari-appellant challenged this decision before the High Court through a writ petition, which was dismissed by a Single Judge in 2019, leading to the present appeal.
Legal Issue:
Whether the termination of Shubhadra Kumari from the post of Anganbari Sevika was justified?
Points of Argument
Argument by the Appellant's Counsel:
The appellant had undergone training and had been discharging her duties satisfactorily since 2003, with no complaints regarding her absence before the criminal case.
Prior to the criminal case, she was ill and hospitalized, which justified her absence from work.
She was acquitted of the criminal charges in 2018, which should negate the basis for her termination.
The termination was carried out without serving a show-cause notice, without following proper procedures, and without giving her an opportunity to defend herself.
The termination was abrupt and lacked a proper inquiry, violating the principles of natural justice.
Respondents (State of Bihar and Others):
The termination was based on an inquiry report and due to her continuous absence from duty.
A notice was issued directing the appellant to appear and explain her absence, which could not be served due to her absence.
Given the serious nature of the criminal charges against her, the termination was deemed appropriate.
The termination was affirmed by the superior officers, indicating procedural correctness.
Court’s Observations:
No notice was served on the appellant, which is a violation of the principles of natural justice.
The court emphasized that both quasi-judicial and administrative actions must follow the principles of natural justice, ensuring fair procedures and avoiding arbitrary actions.
The court referred to Supreme Court judgments (D.K. Yadav vs. J.M.A. Industries Ltd. and State Bank of India vs. Rajesh Agarwal) that highlighted the necessity of fair play and reasonable procedures in administrative actions.
The court found that the termination was not justified solely based on the criminal charges, since the appellant was later acquitted.

The more that the deportation system in your country is fast, cruel, and not subject to appeal the easier it is for people to say,
"Accept my bad actions or you'll be deported."
This applies equally to legal immigrants, illegal immigrants, and people who are temporarily in the country seeking asylum, visas, etc.
I do not understand why people find this confusing.
If you're here on a work visa, and the consequence for being fired is that you are immediately spirited off to a concrete cell which is lit 24/7 and you aren't allowed to contact anybody and eventually they ship you off to an arbitrary city without any of your possessions,
Then your employer has a ton of leverage to say, "Yes we are making you work unpaid overtime and ignoring our supposed obligations under the contract you signed, but if you complain we'll fire you and good luck contesting it from inside your cell or from another country while you look for housing and a job."
That is how "strong border enforcement" creates an underclass.
People seem to respond to this by pretending I'm talking purely about illegal border crossings by people without visas and then explaining that it's fine to go round those people up. Which is simply beside the point.
Honestly border policy appears to involve simply ignoring how immigration works and pretending the policy only applies to criminals crossing the border without a visa.
