Anyway Gwen.

In 6x07, I love how we get so many of her reactions. She's probably horrified about Christian getting possessed (she seemed closer tied to him familially-wise) and she's horrified by Samuel C's decision to work for a demon.

She had been kept a LOT in the dark, perhaps almost as much as Samuel kept Dean in the dark, because deep down, Gwen has opinions and would likely have objected to a lot of it.

Annnnd here we have the he classic, "Campbells are stupid-ish," charge. Samuel isn't "clever" or "book smart." When he knows things, it's assumed by virtue of experience.

An encyclopedia isn't active or synergistic intel. It's referential. Something to be used.

Love Gwen's face when she learns Sam has no soul. She's calculating the situation. Definitely not stupid:

Samuel's last memories are of letting his wife down, of being too weak to stop Azazel from getting in. Then, probably with Samuel screaming inside, Azazel killed his daughter's happiness, trapped her (eventually killed her, he now knows). He let Mary down. He wants to make up for that.

But in looking so backward, he's letting Gwen down. Whatever happened to Gwen, she's weak to orders from a father figure.

She looks to Dean, just once.

Samuel C. is the walking embodiment of a dude gambling away all his second chances.

He is so wholly focused on “never give up on my child.” Only after that, he thinks he’ll somehow somehow figure the rest out. (“We always do.”)

Thoughts about rift trauma... and Dean's struggle(?) with the decision to leave Lucifer behind

In Exodus 13x22, Dean IS indeed shouting to his "generals"

DEAN: Lucifer! Let's go! Cas, Ketch... show 'em how it's done.

(Side note// Lucifer looks completely bowled over by that, actually.)

Dean ushers Ketch and Cas to go. But one of these things is not like the others. In Dean's mind, perhaps Ketch (maybe Lucifer?) have EARNED their way back, but...

Cas is rift trauma.

Strategically, it makes more sense for Cas to stay with them and fight: with Sam, Dean, Gabe, Lucifer. Just like strategically, it made sense for Cas to be Lucifer's overseer at the camp and on the bus. Cas was, after all, temporarily stronger than Gabe. (Aside// For that matter, it makes sense for Jack to stay, too.)

BUT ANYWAY. My point is! Up till now, Cas was the literal bodyguard/bouncer of the group.

SEE:

But here, Dean can't handle that.

Not this time.

It's why, in the script, it's a more obvious beat with Dean and Cas. Cas gives Dean a fond look because Cas realizes that it's not a strategically sound move.

Cas realizes this, but he's relenting.

(Speculation// I think this implies that, on some level, just like how in the Tombstone script Cas ask, "Are you okay?" to Dean, Cas is on some level aware that his previous death... hurt Dean terribly.)

ANYWAY. Sweet detail here: Despite relenting on being willing to go through, Cas hangs back a bit, arm outstretched, making sure Jack, Mary, Bobby, and Charlie go before him:

Jack. Mary. Bobby. Charlie.

Only then does Cas go through.

(Which sets up a pretty nice contrast against Ketch and Lucifer, who are both, despite "being on the team," chomping at the bit to come through the rift mostly for their own safety.)

When he gets through, Cas immediately goes to check on Rowena, too:

ASIDE re Lucifer: I was talking the other day about how ultimately Dean's time as Demon Dean results in increased forgiveness towards those that manipulated/used him (i.e. Cain, Crowley, Amara specifically.) Which is why the Claire-Randy parallel… ...yadda yadda big, understanding hearts.

ANYWAY, I posited that it wouldn't surprise me if Dean is naturally/instinctively the type to forgive even the most horrific figures in life: maybe even figures like Azazel, Lucifer.

I feel like his treatment of Lucifer and Ketch above lends some weight to that idea. Specifically, the script and reaction shots make you wonder if Dean was indeed shaky on the whole "leave Lucifer behind" plan.

Was Dean cutting Lucifer some slack? I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility! He's forgiven others who killed and tortured loved ones, after all.

In the last bit of the script, there's a moment where Dean seems to be struggling with it pretty intensely, even:

Despite everything that happened, Dean wonders if maybe that was the wrong choice.

And Dean's morals... tend to have some unfortunate weight.

Other notes:

RE: Getting everyone home. Sam too was busy stressfully doing a head count:

SAM: "Mom, Bobby. Charlie, you're with them."

But when Lucifer gets held up by Sam, we see Dean looking, again, a little unsure about this?

Lucifer looks Dean's way too, like he's APPEALING to him. It's an interesting moment to me, because this episode starts out with Dean being the one screaming for Gabriel to, "Kill (Lucifer) him!"

Lucifer at first steps in front of Gabe to protect him. (The fear and cowardice ofc will win out after he's injured and after Gabe dies.)

After Gabe dies, Dean is horrified, but he's also seeming a bit guilty to leave overall. I do wonder about the complexities of Dean's inner conflict there...

The series plays so often with this seesaw of Dean being totally rigid (for example in this episode: saying KILL Lucifer, and then shown torturing people for information a la Endverse-style with Cas), but he's also... surprisingly bendy with extending mercy after ppl have put in effort to help or better themselves...

It's so lovely (and so very human).

EDIT: All that to say that, despite appearing very comfortable levying judgment, and like everyone in the series, despite having overcorrective moments of trauma/fear where he backslides and divvies out judgment according to a FIRM (hunting) code...

I think Dean agonizes over the moment-to-moment changes in situations and people, especially at later points in the series.

Too any of my tumblr friends on here that make music, do you even think it’s worth it anymore to be apart of the industry? Obviously yes make music for yourself ALWAYS first. I’m saying if you did want to make a career out of it, does it even seem like a possibility anymore ?

I’ve been working the past 2-3 years in order to go to school for sound engineering in AZ. Life hit me pretty hard these past 2 years so that placed major setbacks on going.

I think about how I looked at everything 3 years ago and the optimism was there, completely. But at this point it’s aggravating to even hope and think that I could make a happy n fulfilling career from this gigantic pile of shit industry.

rereading catching fire and it's insane how i never fully understood before the bigger picture of snow needing to be "convinced" of katniss and peeta's love for each other and how they were doomed from the very start of that.

it's not that they were bad at performing it. she says it herself, they're "borderline delirious in their love for each other" in public constantly. and not to mention, they really do enjoy each other's company and are around each other 24/7 during this time, never apart. they got publicly engaged. what more could they have even done??? started having sex on the stage???

literally nothing they would have done would have been enough. whatever katniss and peeta did couldn't satisfy snow because he is undyingly determined to project his own past onto this. no matter what, katniss will be equated to lucy gray in his eyes so she can never truly convince him that she loves peeta - because he is delusional.

reading the books growing up as a kid with autism, i just took everything katniss said and thought literally and was completely unable to read between the lines- and we all know that her perception of things is pretty unreliable. katniss, who is unaware that she actually is for real in love with peeta at this point, is convinced that SHE has somehow failed because she hasn't put on a good enough show. the irony is to the rest of the world, you're doing a perfectly good job babe because you both are LITERALLY IN LOVE, but snow will just never believe that because of a personal vendetta.

yesterday I went to a little meeting at my local queer community center and I was admiring their bookshelves and mentioned that I work at the public library and someone said "well I bet they don't have any [LGBTQ+ books] at our library" and I was like um. yes we do. we have tons of them. half of our employees are queer leftists so they said "oh well I bet they don't in [nearby rural county]" and I was like uh once again yes they absolutely do. gay people live and work there as well

so here's a quick reminder that if you don't think your local library has enough queer centered materials you should actually check before assuming, and if you're not satisfied with their collection you should submit a request for more such books. I don't know what the political landscape of libraries looks like outside the us rn, but within the us no matter where you are, I promise you there are employees at your library fighting for inclusion and intellectual freedom and they can't win without vocal public support
