'sup! its currently 9:23pm on tuesday, april 19th.

took my seroquel just now, dreading the side effects again. I think both the Cymbalta and Seroquel are making me fatigued and I am just tired through the day. Just really sleepy all the time, but never enough to actually sleep.

I've also decided to have my system members add their names so that I know when alters post and who posted them. It'll stop it from being a shitshow. But mainly you'll talk to me, the host. I don't like sharing my name so I go by the body name of Arson. So hi. :)

I spent some time with friends today, went shopping for a bit and got some new journals. I wanna try to keep writing, but it's hard to find the motivation to.

Working on some creative things though. Finished a map for a story I'm working on which is fun! I'm proud of myself for that because I really didn't wanna do it. I had made the same map last year but something happened to it and it disappeared off my computer. So I had to remake it, but I'm kinda glad I did. I think the art looks much nicer. I'm in an ok mood.

Talked to my mom today about some stuff, mostly about finding a house with my fiance and some roommates but my credit fucking sucks (fuck you, medical bills!!!!) so I might need to lean on them for help. Which is embarrassing! Lucky me.

I have an in-system pet, he's a Sylvesqual from Creatures of Sonaria. I deliberately made him but he's not really a tulpa, he's a lot closer to an NPC.

Here's a pic I made of him--we like making pictures of headmates and other headspace entities so we can share em online and commission art sometimes.

But yeah, I'm not the only guy in here with a NPC pet in-headspace, just wanted to share mine specifically. Our partner system has plenty of insys pets too.

Wait. Systems and plural beings out there. Do you guys also have animal or robot or nonhuman NPCs in your headspace?

It’s about young motherhood and raising a child when you don’t quite know who you yourself are yet and being societally undesirable and finding community in fellow outcasts and unconventional families that aren’t mom-dad-child but are still full of love all the same and masking and trying not to “ruin” the life that your child has managed to scrape together because you know how hard it is to be happy when you’re Not Normal and breaking away from our base “instincts” to punish and isolate the undesirables in whatever shape they come in because because we’ve been socialized our entire lives to want to achieve and maintain the idealized status quo and we know how hard it is to unlearn things so deeply ingrained into us and how you can’t just immediately change the way someone was raised and how the ruling body is a machine that does not care about you or your personal joy and will gleefully destroy the lives and homes of anyone and everyone associated with those who are Not Normal and they will not stop until they know how to prevent more undesirables from coming into existence and how you can’t just erase someone’s neurodivergence or queerness or heritage or physical disability it’s a fundamental part of how we interacted with the world growing up and how the world interacted with us in turn and it’s about how all of these things intersect because we live in this world and in this society in this community in this family and we are trying to be happy and lead fulfilling lives when that is an uphill battle against social norms and scared people but those social norms are not inherent and are artificial and even though the way there is paved with hot coals and require us to mask to pass and fit in to so that we can make gradual change and as much of an infuriating answer as that is, things can get better

To me, outside of the symbolism of the petals and the feud between the degrading nature of immortality vs. a sobered interpretation of the romantic idea that life is more meaningful because of its limitations, the matter of Hong Lu’s agency is one of the most interesting aspects of Canto 8 so far. On one hand, he has little control over his own actions, between his status as the Jia family’s precious jade and as a sinner for Limbus Company.

On the other, he admits that his inaction was one of the hands that pushed Jia Qiu off his “cliff.” As Hong Lu was a child back then, his inaction is understandable; it’s with his transition into adulthood and his internalization of his lack of agency that it becomes really interesting.

Hong Lu leaves Daguanyuan without a fight, causing Daiyu to lose her romantic perception of the world and imbibe her own brand of miserable complacency. He does that, not screaming, not crying, not making promises to Daiyu; until further elaboration, I believe that it is Hong Lu’s fault that Daiyu is in the state that we see her in at the tail end of part 1. However, Hong Lu washes his hands of the affair, accepting the degradation of their relationship as a fact of life that he had no REAL part in. He’s the jade after all, he has no agency.

Hong Lu, in this way, frees himself of any emotional obligation to the world around him. He does not have to care deeply about the plights of the people affected by monthly, Reconstruction, the brutality of the Hierarch Evaluation, or the anguish of the people around Hong Lu who care about him. He doesn’t have any agency anyway; why cry over spilled milk? Nothing matters.

I believe, however, that Hong Lu recognizes his culpability in things like Daiyu’s present outlook. He knows that he affects the world around him, as seen in his insight regarding Jia Qiu, but he remains stubbornly insistent that he has no agency regardless.

This is speculation (for now) but I think Hong Lu finds both sad satisfaction through his smiley inaction, as well as a well of things to pull from to feel bad about himself. After being deprived of agency for his entire life, I think Hong Lu enjoys being able to influence people’s emotions, explaining his happy exterior in addition to the facade reading. However, Hong Lu garners satisfaction from his own suffering just as much as he does from others’. He doesn’t LIKE that Daiyu hates him, or that he’s on bad terms with Xichun again, but, in a twisted way, he feels it is deserved, and therefore good. Hong Lu’s Tears of the Tarnished Blood E.G.O. states that he feels like his fate is deserved outright, so I feel good about this one.

Hong Lu has come to love his lack of agency, accepting it as a fact of the world and a deserved fate and something that he shouldn’t even try to change because he, as an adult, has come to like it. He is self-destructive at all times, indulging in his own misery while propagating it at the same time. Hong Lu both wants things to get better, but also doesn’t. He yearns for change, yet is complacent, and will never seek it out, instead watching the world go by, content. Duality and suchlike
