inspired by fifteen trying to say shit and getting censored by the nanny filter, here’s a complete table of every doctors who and whether or not they use strong language
1 - no
2 - yeah
3 - rarely, but accurately and directly, in a dignified and sarcastic fashion
4 - ABSOLUTELY all the time. the tardis filter barely copes. we’ve all seen the K-9 clip, that’s what the character sounds like without the kids show censorship
5 - no. does he look like a man who swears to you? maybe some esoteric combination of words like fuckadoodle shitnozzles
6 - yes. duh
7 - he doesn’t enjoy it, but occasionally, sparingly, when the situation calls for it
8 - definitely . not too frequently, though. for emphasis, or for a laugh
9 - that man is a working class northerner from the 2000s and a jaded war veteran. draw your own conclusions. he knows elaborate insults you’ve never heard of
10 - cheeky little ‘fuck’ here and there with rose & martha, ALL THE TIME with donna, and swearing like hell when he starts going off the rails in the s4 specials
11 - lol no. well… he’s got an example to set to the companions that he treats like children. he’s a storybook character and he wants to be perceived as an imaginary friend, a kind almost victorian whimsical gentleman in a bowtie, and a person like that wouldn’t use crude language. with river song though? now THAT’S a whole other story
12 - the scene in dark water with the psychic paper tells us everything we need to know. twelve in series 8 was straight up pg13ified malcolm tucker. shuttity-up-up-up without the tardis filter sounds like fuckity-bye. he swears liberally, frequently, unsparingly and unceremoniously, at everyone without distinction, including clara’s students at coal hill. personally i think that’s one hell! of a fucking! bird!
13 - no. she’s all famalam hipster mum cringy kindergarten teacher. it doesn’t fit her ~vibe~. the master makes fun of this trait in the timeless children when he’s goading her about her superiority complex. says it’s such a step down from her previous self, at least that one was honest about his emotions
fugitive - she gives no fucks and takes no shit
14 - yes from time to time, like a normal human being would, nothing excessive. donna does bring it out in him though. his mouthy side
15 - this guy says cunt and serves it

Yeah, about hero!Sephiroth….
Crisis Core and The First Soldier are not tone deaf when it comes to Sephiroth’s writing. At all.
I know they have weak execution in areas, but they have a point they want to make about characters like Zack and Sephiroth and Cloud that you are supposed to understand for a reason.
It’s clear to me that some FF7 fans refuse, for whatever reason, to acknowledge that the entire point of hero! Sephiroth’s character these days is to show that his fall from grace was literally a fall from grace by standards entirely separate from Shinra. If you go by Shinra’s “morals” or illusions of righteousness, he was never actually a hero at all. He fell from nothing “good” whatsoever.
He was a war machine painted like a great figure by the company’s own propaganda, sent to finish an extermination of the people of Rhadore for his first mission and later sent over to Wutai to fight in the war that Shinra unjustly perpetuated and began when he was a child.
Yes, Shinra called him a hero before he was ever even in the Wutai war. Before he was ever even deployed. He was around 8-9 when it began and Shinra needed plenty of recruits to build an army before they deployed him specifically. He was showing great promise as a boy in training, so what better way to lure in other children than to rely on the image of a young prodigy to inspire them?

That was why FS revealed this almost immediately. Shinra crafted a war hero image for Sephiroth to use as propaganda long before he did anything special on the battlefield, and this was the very image he loathed, resented, and expressed his desire to be free from. He didn’t want to be a “hero” because all he knew was Shinra’s illusion of one. And Shinra’s illusion is what we’re meant to see through when we look at the meaning of a hero as well.

We’re supposed to understand this distinction by now because it was already shown through Zack and Cloud. Both of them became heroes beyond Shinra despite initially falling for the company’s propaganda and being massively screwed over. They came to understand that Shinra’s definition of a hero was warped, and Sephiroth was already aware of this long before them.
But now we have The First Soldier, which is cold canon. And we know a little more about Sephiroth’s true hero status.
It’s Nojima’s explanation for why we could have once called Sephiroth a real hero, because while he was certainly still in the process of attaining the title in truth and sincerity (by way of using his strength to save others instead of kill them), he was taking his first steps towards following his own heart (which was naturally inclined towards kindness and care for others when healthy and tended to).

Yes, the call of Sephiroth’s heart was once pure and he was embracing it in his early 20s, when Shinra’s struggle with Wutai was coming to a halt. Yes, Nibelheim broke that resolve into pieces. But Sephiroth was once trying to be the good person he naturally was inclined to be even beneath Shinra’s endless suppression. He was once trying to be a hero that dodged the hateful battlefield and instead rushed to save others in need.

And this is a miracle, because despite what I have seen others try to say, this was a child born and raised inside Shinra, sent to face the cruelest form of “war” at 14 with the mindset of “kill or die, even when they’re children your age….because like you, they may be trained to murder….”

And before then? Sephiroth was training under Hojo since early childhood. He may not have been on the actual frontlines from before he was ten years like the CC Ultimania/Complete Guide claimed, but he was being readied for it.

Do you really think he gained those skills in battle overnight? That conditioned mindset? Do you think he had memories of limit-breaking pain and dreams of his mother saving him from Hojo’s live tests with monsters for no reason?

Do you really think this child didn’t understand the concept of having fun or that he wasn’t familiar with enjoying the outside world, eating good food with a normal family, learning to socialize with people that didn’t see him as an object, or feeling free to think outside his mission because he was raised well and cared for? By anyone other than Hojo?

He was ruthlessly taught to kill or be killed from early on, and repeatedly lied to about his identity by his own “caretakers” because he was their machine. He was not recruited. The only children that compared to him inside Shinra were those in Deepground, and their fully human psyches/bodies fractured under the endurance of training and trials that Sephiroth was just inhuman enough to survive and grow stronger from.
There is no “sad childhood” to be spoken of in this because there is no childhood to be spoken of at all. Sephiroth’s story goes beyond that.
Sephiroth was a weapon produced inside Hojo’s laboratory. Hojo. The Hojo. Not just some dark and gloomy room with hazard lights. The mad scientist’s lair where Hojo unethically groomed a desired monster that longed to embrace his Shinra-stifled humanity and was finally able to do so the moment he met his first team. Glenn said it himself. He knew Sephiroth had compassion in him and the boy melted on the spot thanks to the smallest bit of affection and kindness. All his previous fear-based violence wilted in the face of the cycle being broken.

After that, Sephiroth helped to properly bury the Rhadorans, he came to understand what they had fought for alongside his team, and then he risked his life to try and save the sole survivor of their race.

Yes, it ended in tragedy and disaster, but that experience shaped Sephiroth for the rest of his sane life. He began to try and spare his enemies, he fought to save his comrades, he became kind at heart, and he was a step away from leaving Shinra.
You want to know why some Turks questioned Shinra for a longer period of time perhaps?
Cissnei, for instance? She was around the same age as Sephiroth when on the field, and like him…trained before then. She was compassionate, empathetic, dreamed of freedom, and eventually left the company. She was just like Sephiroth if he hadn’t lost everything. It’s stated that Cissnei learned to open up and trust others because of her friends in the Turks division. She found her family and began to heal from the cold isolation and detachment that a childhood in Shinra produced. She followed through with that healing inside her heart and ended up free, finding a good life away from Shinra.
Sephiroth was no different when he met Team Glenn. He defied Shinra for them, he bent rules fpr their sake, and he allowed a sweet, soft part of his true childlike personality to blossom when in their presence. For a moment, Sephiroth discovered a glimpse of childhood….something he never knew.
But then he lost those people just as he began to heal and regain innocence.
Yes, he came back to life and once again began to improve after he met Angeal and Genesis. But as FS2 is revealing, this was not easy, because the layers of psychological and familial trauma that were woven into his mind already at the age of 14-15 after an inhumane background and losing his first found family were so brutally devastating, that he was almost lost to madness and delusion long before Nibelheim.

Sephiroth was mentally ill for years and there was a fucking space alien and imperialist megacorp working together to make it ten times worse with lies surrounding his identity on top of his preexisting issues. This development was a different beast from the Turks and…yeah, even Deepground.
Do you wonder why the Deepground soldiers rebelled against Shinra with “villainous rage” some have claimed Sephiroth himself did not “earn?”
It’s because their existences were not swathed in layers of lies and half-truths about their origins that kept them desperate for answers and largely unaware of what they were or where they could potentially belong. It’s because they did not get a chance to see (and be subsequently ripped away from) the other side of life where the grass was greener and hopes for safety, childhood, and innocence could be grasped at like Sephiroth did.
The Deepground soldiers knew their situations were fucked up because they were humans being treated like dogs from day one and they could see that. Their cages were not painted in gold and dressed up to look like glorious arenas. Their cages were not sometimes left open for them to experience hope before being dragged back inside.
The Deepground warriors came to understand that they were prisoners and were literally being restricted as the strongest humans alive. Of course there was conditioning and learned helplessness involved, but they were also a league, often allied, of humans with unique powers that banded together in order to tear down Shinra’s obvious oppression. They became a community of violent rebels working to break free.
But Sephiroth was always a solitary case, always a little too inhuman, a little too special, and different from everyone, even his fellow SOLDIERS and certainly average humans.

He could not connect with others in his environment and was tied down to his hidden origin. Shinra was his prison just as much as it was for the others I mentioned, but he knew it as his only home because of the sinister way in which they crafted his reality.
He saw the inhumanity of his environment and admitted to feelings of dehumanization after apparently growing up in a cell beneath Hojo’s lab, and he dreamt of his mother taking him away from it, he longed for home and family, but where would he find such things in a world that he didn’t fit into because of his unique existence? Why would the inhumanity of his environment not be suited to a modified human weapon like himself? The abuse and isolation would only be unjust if he were not somewhat of a monster. That’s how he reasoned even if his heart ached for normalcy and humanity.

His missing and seemingly human mother was his only hope. His friends and comrades were his only reprieve from being othered. And even then, where others escaped, questioned, healed, and rebelled, Sephiroth lost everything just as he was considering abandoning Shinra. A desire he expressed before Zack or Cloud. A desire that had been growing inside him for a long time. He was so close, and he was truly becoming a hero with his heart in the right place for the first time. He was trying, healing, inching his way towards that sweet escape.
And then Shinra’s legacy dragged him back with more lies to lead him towards their favorite specimen in Jenova and have him finally, truly fall for the complete lie that he was never human at all. Just a monster that couldn’t save or help anyone with its strength. Just a lab creation that had been used for its power for years. Just an othered being striving and longing for things it could never have because they only were granted to real humans. Not him or his equally solitary mother. All hope became despair.
That’s when Sephiroth’s humanity died just as it was coming to life in completion for the first time.
And why the hell do I care so much about this you ask? Why go through all this trouble to yap and defend pre-Nibelheim Sephiroth? Because I think it matters that we treat his writing with the respect we treat Cloud’s, even if it’s not as clearly spelled out or if you gotta read the fine print. YOU HAVE TO READ THE FINE PRINT.
Sephiroth is not the born evil villain you want him to be. He fell from a place of growth and healing that many other characters are shown obtaining after terrible life experiences and identity crises. Sephiroth is the one that loses the battle and it’s the REASON he is the cruel, cold-hearted villain he is. His “cool factor” and his war crimes as a villain are only strengthened in intensity because of who he once was, what he once experienced.
There is no harm in admitting that this villain is a tragic creation and always has been.

[I only have 30 pounds in my bank account] - Mafia!TF141*F!Reader
Summary: You sigh when it's the fifth time someone fights in your poor tea shop this month. You just open it two months ago, in an area ruled by mafia called '141'. Maybe you should find their boss and give them money or what to stop the bullshit keeps happening in your shop. (well, here they come)
Mafia!TF141*F!Reader, but only Soap and Ghost in this chapter unless I extend this
chapter 2
You’re just trying to fulfill your dream, plus survive with the money you earn with your shop, but you start questioning if this is a good idea, maybe you should just listen to your friend and be a 9-5 worker, sitting in front of a laptop the whole day.
This isn’t a good location to open a tea shop, your little shop will rather become a place for dealing drugs or getting extorted in the first month. The area is fully ruled by the mafia, hence the cops couldn’t do anything here, but it makes the rent extremely low, which you’re able to afford with money you saved during school, and have a tiny shop that can barely squeeze in more than 8 people.
Looking at the scene playing in your shop for the fifth time this month, you stare at the people fighting and break the cup with dead eyes. You want to shout, to kick these guys' ass out of here or hit them with your broom, yet you glance at their muscles and the knives in their hand – probably killing every day as work out, to your opposite one because you slump onto the bed once you close the shop and go upstairs, you choose to remain silent as the yelling only become louder.
Maybe you should find the mafia boss or some henchmen and give them half of your income to prevent the mayhem, but first, you don’t even know who actually rules this fucking place; second, you doubt they will have interest in your skimpy bank account. The only information you have is the mafia ruling here called ‘141’, since it’s an open secret to residents here.
“What are ye arseholes doin’?”
Fuck, here comes another one, or two as you spot the man with a balaclava behind the mohawk man who's speaking. They are tall, muscular and built like bricks. Grown like giraffes either, you complement when you need to crook your neck up to look at them stepping into your shop as if it's their backyard.
but the chaos halts immediately as you watch your ‘customers’ seem shocked with terror at the men.
You pretend you’re deaf and attempt to bury yourself in your counter. Please don’t kill me I didn’t hear a goddamn word and didn’t see you threatening them. You recite your defense as you scrub at the same tea cup till the distinct accent from the mohawk man catches you off guard that you almost drop it.
“I guess it’s already clean, lass.” A smirk appears on his face as he points at the cup.
“Wh– what do you want?”
“Calm down, jus’ want te have some tea.”
“I only have 30 pounds in my bank account.”
“We’re just sayin’ we want tea.” The taller man speaks for the first time after coming in, and it startles you but forces your brain to function at the same time.
Ah, they aren’t here for money. You finally get what they’re talking about.
“Isn’t it supposed te be a tea shop here? One cup for him, and give me a cup of coffee.”
“Oh, of course. What kind of tea would you like, Sir?” You shift slightly to meet the other man’s eyes, and you want to shiver under his cold eyes.
“Just give him whatever you recommend.”
They round over the glass scattering on the floor and take a seat closest to your counter after you nod at them.
While boiling the water, you sneak a glimpse at them, and the shape of guns covered by their clothes are unignorable as you scold yourself to stop looking at them, or the bigger guy might stab your eyes, but you still curse whole-heartedly in mind when the Scottish accent man meet your eyes with his azure ones and shines you a grin.
Should just quit staring, or you shouldn’t open this shop at all. Regretting your decisions as you turn back and focus back on making their drink, you’re able to recognize them staring at you from the periphery of your vision. Is it too late to kneel down and beg for your life right now?
You still perfectly make their orders and bring them the drinks, even though you’re sweating internally. At least don’t mess it up, and your confidence in your tea and coffee isn’t born from nothing, as you notice the man with the skull balaclava takes a sip first, then raises his eyebrow, added with a side glance at you.
“Haven’t seen him amazed by tea in years, it must be very good.” The mohawk man whistles as he sips at his coffee and gives an approving nod too.
“Thank you…” Your ego shouldn’t be boosted by mafias, but you still relax a bit knowing you didn't screwed up.
“When did ye open ‘is shop?” The man asks while the other continues drinking his tea, but seemingly taking in the conversation too.
“About two months ago."
"That’s why we didn't know about it before…” He taps at the table twice before shooting you another question “Got blokes like those in yer shop earlier often?”
Death sentence is served to your front, that’s what you think you hear. Is it better to say yes or no? Judging by the fact those people are their minions, you’re not sure if saying yes is indicating they haven’t controlled them appropriately.
“Tell us the truth”
“Yeah, it’s the fifth time this month.” Swallowing, you confirm. Lies aren’t meaningful, and surely they’re able to pierce any veil with those scrutinizing stares and keen minds.
You watch them sharing a glance, and Soap takes out a pen along with a piece of paper, and starts scribbling on it.
“Here, call this number when you run in trouble, aye?" He shoves the paper into your grasp “I’m Soap, call him Ghost.”
"It’s a nice shop, we’ll come back soon.”
Your little shop drops into peace again as your customers leave, and you gaze at the generous tip lying on your counter, to the paper in your palm.
A number is written on it, with a big badge of ‘141’ beside it.
Oh shit, so your shop just became the most far-flung mafia’s property without you knowing.

Underrated JayVik moments/lines (19/∞)
[This change from storyboard to finished scene.]
While everything we already loved about this moment in the final version is only made that much clearer when put next to the initial concept, I feel like the comparison itself does fall into the category of "underrated" - and hell, I just really want to talk about what makes them so distinct, so here I go:
1. The movement itself.
Let's start with the obvious.
Storyboard!Viktor goes from eyes squeezed shut, shoulders up, chin tucked all the way in (scared, tense, maybe in pain?) to looking at Jayce from below in a somewhat swift movement.
The starting point of final!Viktor's movement is entirely different: he goes from looking at their joined hands to Jayce's face in a subtler movement that sees mostly only his eyes shifting upwards (in itself giving it a much calmer effect). He is still looking up at Jayce, but due to his relaxed shoulders and more straightened posture, he looks a lot more level with Jayce and less small.
2. The facial expression.
(Yes, still obvious, bear with me.)
In addition to what I said about his posture, look at how clenched storyboard!Viktor's jaw is in the first few frames. His brows are knit even as he opens his eyes, giving him a rather tormented expression.
Compared to that, final!Viktor's jaw is - from the beginning - slack, his mouth slightly open in wonder. His entire expression barely shifts with the movement, indicating to us that whatever is happening with him emotionally in this moment is itself not a shift, nothing new, nothing that "demands a change", so to speak.
3. The vibes.
So what does it all mean?
To me, storyboard!Viktor is absolutely giving "pleading" - pleading with Jayce for understanding, for forgiveness, to not have to be alone in his final moments. He is wishing for solace and still scared not to receive it.
And while this does make (or rather, would have made) their instant of connecting - of Jayce granting him this solace - in the next shot perhaps even more bittersweet, here's the thing about final!Viktor:
He knows.
He looks at their hands - where Jayce has refused to let the torrent of the Arcane keep them separated - and then Jayce's face not with regret or even surprise, but in wonder.
He is understood. He is forgiven. He is not alone. He may not understand why or how, but he doesn't doubt it.
At the end of everything, Viktor knows that he is loved.
The storyboard version may have been more bittersweet, but this moment of a finally peaceful Viktor, in turn, being able to offer a scared Jayce solace in their final moments instead?
That's everything.
(The idea for this entry was sparked by a post by a mutual sharing their own thoughts about why they prefer the final version.)

Caffeine, chemistry and Caleb VIII
Synopsis: The café was supposed to be just another coffee shop. For a law student who enjoys her morning coffee and a shy newbie still learning the ropes, it should have been nothing more than part of the daily routine… But then there’s Caleb.
Details: Another 3000-worder (sorry lol). Non MC!reader as the law student. This chapter features our favorite trio. Light angst, lots of wholesome vibes, flirting, tension, and banter. We’re back at it and… we keep peeling barista booooi. Romcom all the way and deffo not 18+ (go away tumblr)
Parts: part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5, part 6, part 7, part 8, part 9, part 10, part 11, part 12
Tags: @gavin3469 @unstablemiss @i-messed-up-big-time @mipov101 @zukini-01 @ariakamil @zaynessdarling @gojosballsack69
Exhibit A(bsolutely not over him) | Pt. 8

You haven’t stepped foot in the café in two days. What you have been doing is eating Golden Delicious apples until your stomach turned.
And that’s what finally reminded you of something important: You are, in fact, still a law student. And law students cannot afford to tank their entire future over a man with unfairly good forearms, a devastating smile, and an apple charm that clearly wasn’t just an accessory.
Not when it’s obvious now—undeniably, painfully obvious—that he’s taken.
You were never in the running.
You were just… killing time.
And now? You’ve seen the proof.
Time to stop pretending otherwise.
So, you’re buried in case law—mortgages, foreclosure procedures, and the soul-crushing distinction between de lege lata and de lege ferenda.
Except for that twenty-minute break earlier when you absolutely, definitely did not go down a google rabbit hole about psychological testing in aviation training.
… Not to mention the newbie texting you yesterday.
newbie: he’s wearing a navy button-down. i know the case is closed. just thought you’d want the update.
newbie: hair’s messy.
newbie: he just offered someone extra foam with a wink. i’m going to throw myself into the milk fridge to remind myself that this case is closed. sorry.
You’d bitten the inside of your cheek just to keep from grabbing your bag and sprinting there like a woman possessed.
So yeah. Extremely focused. Laser-sharp.
But you had stayed away.
Your highlighter is again uncapped. Your outline is almost legible. You are, objectively, thriving. Eating a sad multigrain bar between paragraphs and chasing it with lukewarm water like it’s a performance enhancer.
And then your phone buzzes.
Unknown number.
You stare at the screen. Don’t open it. Just… hover over the preview.
Unknown Number: hey. don’t you want your caffeine anymore? i can make you something else. de-caf americano. lavender latte. fake espresso with oat milk and ego support. or something worse :3 caleb (got your number from the newbie. hope that’s not a crime.)
You actually stop breathing.
Like, for real. Chest still. Brain blank.
Your heart has the audacity to flutter. Traitor.
You check the time. You should be reading about lien enforcement. Instead, you’re calculating how long to wait before answering so it looks like you’re busy and unaffected.
You add him to your contacts like a normal, composed person.
Then scream internally for a full minute.
Exactly eleven minutes pass before a reply is sent—just long enough to look busy, not eager.
you: wow. illegally obtained contact info and weaponized oat milk? bold strategy, counselor.
He replies immediately.
Barista Boi™ (DO NOT FLIRT): i prefer the term morally flexible barista. you want the latte or not?
you: define “latte.” is this a real drink or a coded trap?
Barista Boi™ (DO NOT FLIRT): yes
You scowl at your phone, biting back a smile.
you: i’m studying.
Barista Boi™ (DO NOT FLIRT): and i’m offering academic support. in beverage form.
you: …is this a bribe?
Barista Boi™ (DO NOT FLIRT): depends. is it working? :3
Of course you don’t answer right away. You make him wait this time. On purpose. Thirty minutes pass. You even get through two and a half pages of your reading before you cave.
you: i could maybe stop by. for like ten minutes. purely for the fake espresso.
Barista Boi™ (DO NOT FLIRT): :D perfect. i’ll be ready. and i’ll make sure the newbie doesn’t rat you out for folding under pressure :P
You glance at your reflection in your laptop screen. You look like someone trying not to smile.
You fail.
——————————————————————————
Ten minutes. That’s what you told yourself.
Ten minutes. In and out.
And yet—you pause outside the café window, checking your reflection checking your reflection like Professor Litt’s about to grade it. Hair? Rebraided. Clean. Tight. Strategic. Lip gloss? Freshly applied. Not too much, just enough to look unbothered. Like you woke up glowing, not panicking about your response time and lack of emojis.
You push the door open.
The bell chimes.
And then there he is.
Behind the counter, in a black fitted tee that fits too well, apron tied low on his waist like it’s a fashion statement instead of a uniform, he’s cleaning the counter. He stretches forward to drag the rag across the far edge, one arm bracing his weight, the other gliding the cloth in wide circles. A vein pops along his forearm with the motion.
Your breath stutters for half a second.
He glances up.
Sees you.
And—oh no—he smiles.
The good one. Slow. Warm. Like you’re the most interesting thing in the room and he’s so glad you walked in.
“Hey,” Caleb says. “You look—”
A pause. His eyes scan you, just briefly.
“Really good.”
Your pulse skips like a badly written objection.
“Studying looks good on you,” he adds, tossing the rag aside as he steps toward the espresso machine. “What’ll it be? Oat milk ego boost? Fake espresso?”
You raise an eyebrow. “Whatever supports academic integrity.”
He grins. “So… lavender guilt with a hint of vanilla ambition.”
“Perfect.”
Behind the counter, the newbie ducks out of view with suspicious timing. Probably pretending to organize straws. Probably texting you in all caps.
Sure enough, your phone buzzes:
newbie: ok so we’re not dropping barista boi? because i distinctly remember “case closed” energy two nights ago… and you said you’d only show up during my solo shifts…
You exhale. Type back quickly:
you: i know. i meant it. mostly
You stare at the screen. Then add:
you: there’s just… one thing i still need to figure out. something he said. i’ll tell you when i know
A few seconds later:
newbie: i’ll be waiting (and possibly reorganizing inventory until then)
You glance up.
They’re crouched behind the counter, aggressively focused on a box of wooden stir sticks and definitely not subtle. Right.
You take your usual seat, pretending this is casual. That you don’t feel your lip gloss catching on your smile. That you’re not watching Caleb’s hands as he works—entirely too good at this for your emotional well-being.
He slides the drink toward you a moment later.
You rise, shift your weight like you’re pretending this is no big deal, grab the cup—and by the time you’re lowering yourself back into the chair, he’s already grinning.
Before you can respond, the newbie drifts by, eyeing the scene with quiet dread and maybe a flicker of amusement. They point vaguely between you two with a cloth in hand.
“Is this, like… scheduled flirting or do I need to update the roster?”
Caleb doesn’t miss a beat. “Let’s call it a catch-up session. Someone’s been ghosting their caffeine dealer for two days.”
You raise your cup, playing it cool. “Had to detox from questionable latte crimes.”
The newbie snorts. “Sustained.”
Caleb leans in just slightly, voice low. “Counterpoint: I missed the chaos.”
You sip, eyes locked. “Careful. I might bring it back in full force.”
The newbie exhales like they’re watching an HR violation unfold in real time.
You sip your drink again. It’s perfect.
Of course it is.
Before you can take another, Caleb’s already untying his apron like he’s done it a hundred times without thinking. He tosses it behind the counter, then shrugs into his jacket. Then he walks over like it’s the most natural thing in the world. Like you’re not still trying to recover from the way he complimented you when you walked in.
He pulls out the chair across from you and sits—casual, easy, focused entirely on you.
“Clock’s off,” he says. “Extension granted.”
You raise your cup. “Wow. An unsupervised barista in the wild.”
He leans forward, elbows on the table. “Careful. I’m dangerous without caffeine supervision.”
You smile into your drink. “You are the caution label.”
Caleb grins, easy and crooked, like he knows it’s true. But then silence settles in—comfortable at first, then strange. You realize you don’t actually know what to ask him. Not anything normal. Not anything safe.
That’s when the newbie drifts over again, towel still in hand and one brow raised. “Didn’t you say you had to leave exactly on time? Plans, or something?”
Caleb doesn’t look up right away. “Yeah,” he says slowly, sliding a finger along the edge of the table. “Changed my mind.”
Then—just a shrug. No comment. They turn and walk off, disappearing behind the espresso machine like they’ve decided they’ve already witnessed enough plot for one shift.
Your phone buzzes a second later.
newbie: he totally bailed on a date for you. i’m not saying i approve. but i am saying… damn gurl
You pretend to stare into your drink, hiding the flush that climbs up your neck. One hand cradles the cup, the other slips under the table to text.
you: noted. proceeding with caution.
newbie: you’re already toast
And you’re left sitting there. Caleb still not looking at you. Still pretending your pulse hasn’t picked up again.
You look at him, careful. “So… how does your date feel about being stood up?”
You try to make it light. Offhand. Like it’s a joke. But your hands are wrapped a little too tightly around your cup.
He doesn’t flinch. Just holds your gaze and says,
“She’ll survive.”
You raise an eyebrow, and he adds—quieter now, more certain,
“I’m just… starting to make the right priorities.” He leans back slightly, eyes still on you. “Honestly? I prefer this date over the one I had lined up.”
You let out a soft laugh. “Wow. So cross-examination is your ideal date?”
He grins, unbothered. “I don’t mind a little pressure.”
A quiet breath escapes as your thumb drags along the rim of your cup, buying time you’re not sure you need.
“Well,” you say, a little softer now. “Something you said at the farmers market stuck with me.”
His smile fades just a little—still gentle, but cautious now.
“If you don’t mind,” you continue, “I’d like to ask one more serious question. And then I’ll get out of your hair.”
He nods slowly. “Go on.”
The question leaves your mouth before you can overthink it. “So… do they really make you take psych evals in aviation school? Like, sit in a room and prove you’re not gonna fly off the handle mid-flight?”
He hums, glancing down at his hands. The moment stretches—something careful and unfinished in the space between you.
“Yeah,” he says slowly. “It’s… part of it.”
You wait. Just for a second. But he doesn’t add anything.
Doesn’t look up either.
You backpedal before you realize why. “Sorry—was that a weird question?”
He finally looks at you. Smiles, but not quite like before.
“Nah. Just… not all turbulence is flight-related, you know?”
It lingers. Quiet.
You nod like you get it. You don’t push.
Instead, you check the time and start to gather your things.
“Well. I should head back to the library. Real law waits for no one.”
Caleb stands up with you. “Mind if I walk you?”
You pause. “To campus?”
One corner of his mouth quirks up as his hands disappear into his jacket pockets. “Unless that violates attorney-client privilege.”
You try to act cool. Casual.
But your heart’s doing flips like it just passed the bar on vibes alone.
“…Sure,” you say. “As long as you promise not to distract me from my constitutional crisis.”
“No promises.”
——————————————————————————
You didn’t think walking back with Caleb would feel like anything.
But it does.
It doesn’t feel like the farmers market. There’s no soft buzz of vendors or distraction of overpriced produce. No easy banter. It’s just a ten-minute stroll through campus. And every step feels charged. Not tense—just aware.
Aware of the way his shoulder brushes yours every so often. Aware of the fact that he’s not saying anything too deep—but he could. And aware that whatever weight hangs between you now, it’s heavier than before. Not bitter. Just real. Like he’s thinking, maybe, just as loudly as you are.
You try to focus on the path ahead. The looming faculty building. The notes in your bag. The faint echo of de lege ferenda in the back of your brain.
But instead, your thoughts keep rerouting to him. To how beautiful he looks walking next to you—hands in his pockets, jacket slightly open, the chain around his neck just barely visible under the collar of his shirt. There’s a faint scent clinging to him—subtle cologne, warm cinnamon, and coffee. Familiar now. Unfairly comforting.
The apple charm flashes once.
And you look away.
“Campus is weirdly quiet at this hour,” he says, voice low.
You nod. “All the reasonable people went home to rest. The rest of us have finals and bad taste in coping mechanisms.”
He chuckles, a soft breath more than a laugh. “What category do I fall into?”
A breath of hesitation hangs in the air before your gaze flicks his way.
“You’re the exception.”
He arches a brow. “To which part?”
You smile, quiet. “Exactly.”
Then, casually—maybe too casually—you ask, “Why flying?”
He hesitates. Not long. But long enough.
“You already had your serious question,” he murmurs, lips quirking. “But fine. I’ll indulge you, Golden Girl…”
His gaze tilts skyward—toward the horizon where dusk spills purple into orange, soft as breath. The light kisses his skin, scattering gold across the freckles on his nose, tangling in the soft, unruly fall of his ashen brown bangs. And his eyes—those impossible eyes—catch every violet thread of sky like they were made for this hour, like the universe choreographed sunset just to wreck you slowly.
“There’s something about being up there,” he says, quieter now. “Everything feels small. Like it can’t touch you.”
You nod. “Sounds peaceful.”
He shrugs. “It used to be.”
It used to be.
You don’t press. You’re out of allowed serious questions. Dang.
He glances sideways at you, his voice a little softer. “You always this curious?”
You smirk. “I’m literally training to cross-examine people for a living.”
A quiet chuckle slips out, low and unsurprised. “Right. Should’ve seen that coming.”
The silence that follows is longer. He doesn’t fill it. Neither do you. Just the sound of your steps echoing on the pavement, both of you pretending this is still light.
And then, he says:
“I saw you.”
You stop. So does he.
His voice is softer now. Measured. “After I left you. At the farmers market. After we parted… I… I saw you walk away.”
Your throat tightens.
“I didn’t mean to—” you start.
“I know,” he says quickly. “You… don’t have to explain.”
You look away. It stings, hearing him say it. Knowing he knew. That you weren’t as invisible in your spiral as you hoped.
“She’s part of me,” he says finally, eyes on the dark stretch of sidewalk ahead. “Whether I like it or not.”
You don’t say anything.
“She was… important,” he adds. “Still is. Very much so. Maybe… In ways I wish she wasn’t.”
You glance at him. His jaw’s tight. Not sad—bitter. Quietly so.
“Serving coffee helps,” he says with a dry smile. “Stupid as that sounds. So does working. Part-time hours, full-time distraction.”
You don’t speak. Just listen. For once, you’re not cross-examining, not poking holes in the story.
“Flying was supposed to help too,” he continues. “Thought maybe if I was up there, I’d finally feel free. Untouchable. Like I could outrun… outfly all of it.”
He shakes his head. “Turns out… you land eventually. I… always get home on time. No matter how hard I try not to.”
He gives you a sideways look. Not for pity. Just to see if you’re still here.
You are.
“I didn’t mean for you to see that,” he says. “And I didn’t want it to look like—”
“It’s okay,” you say quietly. “You don’t have to explain either.”
He exhales, the sound heavy even in the cool early evening air. “Yeah, but I want to.”
You reach the steps of the faculty. He slows with you.
There’s a pause. You glance at him.
He glances at you.
Then he blinks—like he’s just realized how much he said. How serious it suddenly got. You watch him. Carefully. Then, quiet but steady:
“Caleb. Am I an emotional distraction to you?”
That familiar smirk flickers to life—like he’s winding up to make a joke about your dwindling cross-examination time. But then it falters. Softens. Something gentler bleeding in at the edges.
“You ask that like it’s a bad thing,” he murmurs. “But I don’t want you to see it that way, Golden Girl.”
You lean in, just enough that your shoulders brush—just enough to make it teasing, grounding, not heavy.
You raise a brow. “Depends. Is this a paid role?”
“Not yet,” he says, voice dropping just slightly. “But the benefits are excellent.” He exhales. Runs a hand through his hair.
“I wanted us to stay light, Golden Girl,” he mutters, then flashes a crooked, too-fast smile.
You open your mouth—don’t know what to say.
But he keeps going, softer this time.
“I like being around you,” he says, voice low. “Not because of her. Just…”
Caleb pauses, searching for the words.
“Just because it reminds me of who I used to be. Someone I could… be lighter with. Before everything got so heavy.”
You don’t say anything.
But something in your chest cracks a little—softly. Quietly.
You nod once.
Then, without thinking, he brushes your arm with his fingers. Light. Fleeting. Just enough to feel real.
He holds your gaze.
“I’ll see you soon, yeah?”
Not a question.
A soft certainty.
You could leave it there.
You should.
But you say it anyway, like it’s no big deal:
“…You could kiss me goodnight.”
He pauses.
Raises a brow. “Yeah?”
You shrug, playing it off. “Just to test it. See if it still feels lighthearted.”
A slow grin curves across his face. “Bit early for goodnight kisses, isn’t it?”
Then softer—closer: “And if I kissed you goodnight… it wouldn’t just be a goodnight kiss.”
Your breath catches. His eyes are still open—still watching. Fingers drift forward—just enough to brush against your hair. It’s not a kiss. But it feels like one.
Then—he exhales, a little laugh under his breath.
“We’d fail the test.”
You blink. “Why?”
His voice drops.
“Because I wouldn’t want to stop.”
You don’t answer. You don’t have to.
Because the ache in your chest says it all.
Still—
You let it settle.
You let it stay.
Then he walks away.
You blink. Once. Twice.
And then you turn on your heel and book it back inside. Back to the library. Back to your laptop. Your outlines. Your annotated casebooks.
Back to your safe zone.
The water bottle hits your desk like a gavel. A granola bar follows—torn open and half-devoured like it might file your stress for you. A blank doc blinks back at the chaos.
You start typing.

Caleb v. My F*cking Sanity
Exhibit A: Apple Girl
She exists.
Confirmed visual. Confirmed hug.
Still part of him. Still hurts.
Exhibit B: The Look
He knew I saw.
Felt bad.
Explained… sort of. That’s not nothing.
Exhibit C: The communication pattern
Texted me FIRST. Flirts.
“First-class comfort.”
Braid-touching violation.
Walked me back. Said “see you soon.” Like it meant something???
Exhibit D: The confession
“You remind me of who I used to be.”
He told me. Voluntarily.
Not sad, not sweet—true. Bitter?
Exhibit E: The proximity
The almost-kiss?!?!
Stepped closer.
Eyes open the whole time.
Looked at me like I might undo him wtf
Exhibit F: The Suggestion
I joked: “You could kiss me goodnight.”
He said: “Bit early for goodnight kisses.” …..
Like… early relationship-wise or early as in it’s not bedtime yet? Fml
Exhibit G: The Verdict
“We’d fail the test,” he said.
“Because I wouldn’t want to stop.”
(I didn’t say anything. I couldn’t… jesus)
——————————————————————————
You stare at the screen.
Your heart’s still pounding.
Your fingers hover over the keys—then type one last paragraph:
——————————————————————————
Case Status: Dangerously reopened. Evidence still being collected. *And I’m starting to think I might not want to win.

Part 9
——————————————————————————
Writer’s note: Ahhh, here we are again, dear readers: Spiraling straight back into his orbit. There’s just something about a guy who uses :3 So… are you feeling the vibe? Picking up on what Caleb’s trying to tell us? I really hope my initial arc for him is starting to take shape, hehe. (This is, without a doubt, the only arc I can imagine Caleb having… testing, maybe even choosing someone other than the MC. The song below is Caleb’s theme song “back to you, back to you nanananaa”) Now, technically, I could drag this story out forever. I mean, the banter? The flirting? Yum. However, I was thinking about starting to wrap things up… buuuut if you’re into this, I can absolutely slow-burn it into oblivion. Let me know! Anyway, see you in the next one, and have a great weekend, peepz! Okey then, thank you for reading 🫶🏻

Yet another mini essay on the fifteenth doctor and RTD'S latest airing as showrunner. Spoiler alert, I was not particularly impressed.
So after two series Ncuti Gatwa's time as the Doctor is over. 18 episodes, two of which he was absent in, except for a cameo part (73 yards and lucky day), and another of which he had a greatly reduced role (dot and bubble).
These felt like high budget versions of low concept episodes (both of these were doctor-lite, while boom was a bottle episode set in a quarry). The only two parters were the season finales and realistically when you only have 8 episodes a season you have to try and cram in as much as possible to have the same effect, there's less breathing room than with the standard run of 12 (roughly). However breathing room is exactly what they needed, it's what Ncuti deserved as an actor.
The 15th Doctor did not get the same chances to run around saving the day with their quick thinking and clever words, faithful companion kicking names and taking ass at their side.
So many episodes purposefully retrod the 'familiar' ground of nuwho from nearly 20 years earlier. Ruby's first episode mirrored Rose's: Doctor takes girl to the far distant future, gives their phone the ability to call across time, shows them what becomes of the human race, runs around and away from monsters and leaves. (They are distinct stories but with some familiar beats, lots of episodes have them).
The problem is that so many of these episodes felt lacking (to me), they would have benefited from being condensed to 30 minutes or extended to two episodes. The first historical (the devil's chord) barely features the historical figures. Yes, the Beatles save the day, but it's basically an accident, it could have been set at any point in history, including modern day and the future, without having to change anything. The Doctor and Ruby go to see them record, realise they're shit and that something's gone wrong, then confront the maestro alone. Where's Dickens running away from ghosts, or Shakespeare helping banish the carrionites?
This lack of breathing room becomes obvious if you try to look for character arcs or emotional beats that last more than one episode. The Doctor simply doesn't have one, they experience racism and enjoy finding a community that accepts them but still sees them as an outsider but it doesn't carry on to future episodes, there is no emotional journey to be had. Bad things happen to the Doctor, the Doctor does bad things, words are exchanged, apologies made, people are forgiven or forgotten, the episode ends, the next one begins.
The doctor does not necessarily need a big arc, they work pretty well as a static character, but it's so easy to do. 9 learnt to forgive themselves for the time war, to love themselves and realise that saving people doesn't have to mean killing others. Compare the gleeful, angry, mocking of the lone Dalek to explicitly choosing to be a coward if the alternative is genocide. By contrast 15 has left on the same point as they started.
So the doctor is static then, fine. What about everyone else. How do the companions fare? Is there an overarching storyline, connecting the disparate episodes?
Ruby Sunday is introduced wondering who her parents are, she is another mysterious girl (woman), like River and Clara. In the Christmas special the Doctor decides that it's not his business and she's better off not knowing. Then, when he changes his mind, his actions have made things too complicated and it's impossible to know who she is. But then we find out anyway. And it's fine, mystery solved, she was just a scared teenager (who was traipsing around in the snow, hours after giving birth, seriously, hire more women). They meet, get along, meet her dad, happy families all round. Ruby is happy, old mum is happy, new mum is happy, we never learn why she can make it snow, or why she remembers alternate timelines, it's fine, don't worry about it. Any conflict is short-lived or side stepped.
Then we get Belinda, in a (hopefully) shocking amount of oversight, RTD retreads Martha's storyline in a way that gives Martha her flowers by comparison. Two medical professionals, both women of colour, both overshadowed by the younger blonde women that came before them. After a pretty strong start Belinda gets passed over for another solo Ruby story (lucky day) and then does sweet F.A. in her last three episodes (interstellar song contest, wish world, and the reality war). At most she politely admonishes the Doctor's torture then quickly forgives him for it.
Then, depending on your interpretation, she is either revealed or rewritten to be someone we never really knew (a single mother, living almost a completely different life).
Moving on to the overarching storyline we get a bit of a damp squib. The pantheon are introduced then defeated by their built in kill switches in the same episode, with the exception of Sutekh in the two parter finale. Mrs Flood keeps showing up and is revealed to be the Rani, only to be defeated two episodes later. Rogue is introduced, sent to hell and who knows when, or if, they'll return.
But wait! There's more of the pantheon out there, Mrs Flood survived, Rogue can be saved (somehow), Susan and The Boss are apparently waiting for the Doctor to find them (same person?). But if these plot points ever come to fruition it will be without 15, Belinda is unlikely to come back now that she has a child, Ruby is free to return, but why bother (narratively she's done and out-of-universe Millie Gibson seems uninterested).
Gatwa's performance was memorable and a fun change of pace to previous Doctors, he was let down by unsatisfying arcs and a condensed runtime that he then had to share with Ruby and UNIT.
Billie Piper is not the next doctor (or at least not confirmed as such) it could be a war doctor situation, or a complete misdirect. Either way, the 15th doctor committed suicide and it's unlikely we'll see them again. When 10 knew they were dying we got a montage of them checking in on their former companions and saving their lives one last time (mileage may vary; I remain unimpressed with marrying off Martha and Micky and don't believe that Luke would ever forget to look both ways before crossing the road). 15 checks in on Belinda and Poppy, finds out she isn't/was never his daughter, gives a heartfelt if cryptic goodbye to someone we never really knew, hops in the TARDIS, waves goodbye to Joy (who also essentially committed suicide) then is replaced by RTD's favourite white woman who will not stop haunting the narrative/answering the phone when called, no matter how many exorcisms she gets.
RTD has gone one record saying that he is largely focused on attention grabbing scenes and plot points that will generate interest online; and this seems to be a feature of the current media landscape. But goddamnit could you not have tried harder? Could you not have done more? Could you not have rewritten the scripts now that Belinda was replacing Ruby? Could you not have done right by your poc characters to correct your previous mistakes? The casual racism was wrong then and so many people rightfully called it out only for RTD to double down 20 years later and make the first black doctor's run marred by disappointing writing.
[*Edit* something I forgot to mention is that these seasons had a much larger presence of previous doctors than others have. A charitable interpretation would be that this is RTD (and the other writers/producers) trying to hammer home that Gatwa is the doctor, just like everyone else was. However it can feel that 15 is not free to tell their own story. In previous seasons the doctor regenerates, spends an episode getting used to their new body and personality, and then carries on with the rest of the season arc. Sometimes previous companions or characters come back and comment on the change but normally multiple doctors are confined to specials.
The bigeneration into 14 and 15 is all about Tennant's return, Gates gets to be a starry eyed fan and then we forget about them till the Christmas special and the start of the next season. This shadowing works together with the retreading of familiar plot points and returning characters and places I mentioned earlier and can compound this feeling of 15 not being free in the same way the other doctor's have been. (Obviously all the Doctors are connected and this is definitely a mileage may vary situation). 15's departure then also features a previous doctor, this time 13, and a previous fan favourite, Billie Piper. The fact that they lampshade Tennant's frequent appearances does not change the fact that 15 got neither regeneration to themselves. Gatwa never really got the time to shine on their own in the same way the other actors did.]

Now that Critical Role has dropped an entire album, and not just an EP, I thought I’d do a short & sweet review. Nothing crazy, no ratings or anything, just for fun
Overall Impressions: it’s a fun, if incredibly niche, holiday album. They know their audience, and they’re playing directly to them. I feel like they struck a good balance between parodies and original compositions. I love that each cast member got their own song, even those that may not be as confident in their singing. The ballads really stand out, and end up being 3 of my top 4 songs
Track 1: Winter’s Crest Welcome (spoken word by Matt Mercer): a nice little intro/lore dump. I think it’s cool that Winter’s Crest is going international (likely thanks to Taste of Tal’Dorei lbr)
Track 2: Winter’s Crest Festival Time (Matt Mercer as Pumat Sol): when I tell you this song has been in my head for weeks. Fun and catchy and a little silly. Matt sounds great even in a goofy character voice. The bridge where he’s in (I think) four part harmony with himself? Wild
Track 3: Silent Mind (Laura Bailey as Imogen Temult): my favorite song off the album, to the surprise of absolutely no one. I knew Laura could sing, but goddamn. Chills
Track 4: Naughty & Nice (Sam Riegel as Scanlan Shorthalt): Sam has such a great voice for a jazzy, sexy song like this. And they really nailed the vibe, I knew it was a Scanlan song immediately
Track 5: Nothin’ Under the Tree (Taliesin Jaffe as Ashton Greymoore): this song rocks, pun fully intended. I never knew I needed a Christmas song I could headbang to until now. And Taliesin sounds fantastic. I fucking love it
Track 6: O Mighty Nein (Liam O’Brien as Caleb Widogast): oh, Liam, my heart. This song is so sweet and beautiful, and I was almost in tears by the end
Track 7: Twelve Days of Grogmas (Travis Willingham as Grog, feat. Ashley Johnson as Pike): it’s fun, it’s stupid, it’s catchy as hell. Another earworm that’s been in my head since it dropped. It is so perfectly Grog, and Pike’s little asides are the icing on the cake
Track 8: Cold Inside (Marisha Ray as Laudna, feat. Matt Mercer as Pate, Sam Riegel as FCG, Travis Willingham as Chetney, and Laura Bailey as Imogen): knowing that Marisha is likely the cast member that is least confident in their singing abilities, I’m so glad she did this song. Laudna is the perfect vehicle too, her character voice is more distinct than Keyleth or Beau, and she has a flair for the dramatic that Marisha can really lean into without worrying about how she sounds. For a song that people were advertising as an Imodna song, I wasn’t expecting it to be so funny. I think my favorite bit was the deadpan “I think that’s just arson, Chetney”. And then Imogen coming in at the end, you can just hear the eye roll and the fond smile
Track 9: Winter Anymore (Ashley Johnson as Yasha Nydoorin): this song is so achingly tender and yearning. Ashley has such a gorgeous voice, I’m in awe. I was initially unsure if she was singing as Yasha or Pike, but I love that the lyrics could apply to both. I love that despite the overall sadness of the song, there’s still an air of hope
Track 10: Deck the Bear (Liam O’Brien as Vax’ildan and Laura Bailey as Vex’ahlia, feat. the rest of the cast as Vox Machina and Matt Mercer as Trinket): another silly, goofy one, though admittedly this one is my least favorite from the album. I do like the ensemble song, and Matt’s bear noises are incredible as always (will he ever feature in a song not in a character voice? spoiler alert: yes lol)
Track 11: It’s Critmas (Critical Role cast as themselves): yet another earworm. This was tied with Silent Mind for my favorite song from the EP, and it’s still definitively in the top 4. Again, I love the ensemble, and everyone getting their moment. It’s catchy, it’s fun. It’s Critmas
#critical role#matthew mercer#laura bailey#sam riegel#taliesin jaffe#liam o'brien#travis willingham#ashley johnson#marisha ray#vox machina#the mighty nein#bells hells#okay so short is in the eye of the beholder

...Did everyone Read The Announcement Post Very Carefully?
That's right. Kirby of the Stars: The Magic Crystal and The Mysterious Maze was my "A.P.R.I.L. F.O.O.L.S" joke! Sorry! XD
It started at the end of January when I remembered that I'd made a joke grouping of the four Dream Friends that get consistently left out of the novels: Marx, Adeleine, Ribbon, and Dark Meta Knight. I wanted to do something special for them and, partly inspired by Jojo's roleswap cover emulating the FL novels, I thought to make a fake novel cover just for MY forgotten favorites! Gryll and the Fairy Queen are a bonus, because if I was doing this, I would go all out!
I took a huge amount of reference photos, both from the novels and from Tau and Poto's "Find Kirby" books (the only place they've ever drawn Gryll! The Fairy Queen I referenced from Wave 2's ending picture in Star Allies - that's why her crown looks slightly different. Speaking of, Ripple Star Castle (?) is WEIRD looking, y'all!)
At ~40 hours~ of sketching, drawing, painting, refining, trying to get those distinctive Kirby novel touches right (don't get me started on emulating the cover's texture. I was a dumb bunny and remade it by HAND out of a clean scrap about the size of Kirby's body!) this was an immense challenge and the most time I’ve ever put into any illustration, but it was also a huge labor of love for Kirby and its cast!
For what it's worth, I actually did come up with a full on "plot" for this fake novel of mine! (And yes, it was a big stretch to combine Kirby 64 with Amazing Mirror, Milky Way Wishes, and Star Stacker!!)
Here is the "chapter list" (in English and Japanese!)
1 / "Marx the Magician Comes to Town!" 魔法使いマルクがやってきたのサ!
2 / "Into The Mysterious Mirror Maze" いざ!不思議なミラー迷宮へ
3/ "Ribbon The Fairy and The Missing Crystal" 妖精リボンちゃんと失われたクリスタル
4 / "Moving Reflections?! The Maze's Secret!" 動く反映?!迷宮の秘密!
5 / "Adeleine and The Path Leading Out" アドレーヌと出口への道
6 / "Oh No! The Jumbled Dimensions!" 大変!バラバラの次元回路!
7 / "Marx's Mocking Laughter?!" マルクの嘲笑?!
8 / "Catch That Clown!" あの道化師を捕まえろ!
9 / "A Day Packed Full of Delights" 楽しい満喫な一日
-
In the "backstory" Marx attempted to steal/use the large Crystal from Ripple Star ("It's just a prank, bro!") but something happened (maybe the Queen did something) and the Crystal split into shards.
So Marx makes up a fake show and comes to Popstar to dupe all the simpletons there (his words, not mine) to do the bothersome task of gathering all the shards for him to fix the crystal while he sits back and waits, disguising this arduous task as a "fun game."
Kirby and the rest fall for it and start to do Marx's dirty work, going into the mirror maze (related to the Mirror World?) But there, Kirby meets the hardworking fairy, Ribbon, who is working all on her own to try and get the crystals back before Marx can. (Or, if Marx duped the folks of Ripple Star that he'd fix his own mess, he then trapped Ribbon in the maze once they were out of sight!) But so far, she has failed to convince any of his "guests" that she is anything other than a clever attraction. Kirby believes her though and offers his help!
I hadn't fully figured out how the mirror worlders were connected, but I thought it might have been possible they were working with Ripple Star/the good guys (but seemed to be "bad" because they were "scaring" the carnival attendees) or maybe, DMK and Shadow Kirby (who I was originally going to put in the cover as well but it got too crowded for him) were there as guardians to warn everyone to stop messing around with powers they don't understand.
Bandee spends most of his time in the novel outside the maze (to skirt any questions of a mirror Bandanna Waddle Dee) waiting for everyone alongside Marx, where he will eventually figure the jester's game and goes into the maze to warn Kirby and friends. Just as the group seems lost, they will encounter Adeleine, who will be all big sister like and help guide the kids to the exit (using the never fail maze escape strategy of "keep your hand on the right-hand wall")
However, just as things seem to be going well, Marx has used what pieces of the crystal the Popstarians have collected for him to pull his prank, and the gang find themselves lost not in the maze, but in a cartoonish jumble of dimensions!! (Picture each door you go through, whether it's to the kitchen or the castle, leading you to an entirely different planet!) It's amidst this wacky dimensional comedy, trying to grab Marx to get him to Cut! It! Out! that they meet Gryll, who knows Marx well and gives the gang a tip to lure him out (probably involving them all NOT panicking and instead sitting down amidst the chaos and enjoying a simple Adeleine-sponsored picnic, pretending like they're having a great time without him.)
They defeat Marx once he shows up to confront them, complaining they aren't "playing along right" and Gryll takes the battered, bruised jester back for "remedial magic training" or something equally embarrassing for Marx. Back home at last, they find it's sunset now and Marx's One Day Carnival (now being run by the Waddle Dees, who just can't help from helping out) is coming to an end!
However, Kirby, Bandee, Meta Knight, and King Dedede invite Ribbon (and Adeleine and the Mirror Worlders) to enjoy the last hours of the carnival with them before bidding everyone goodbye.
They promise to remain friends, however!

Speaking of friends...
I'm taking a long break from fandom to tackle some new things and take on a new direction in my life. As such, I have taken down all my old work from this blog to get some much needed emotional distance from certain things. That said, I don't require anyone who reblogged any of it in the past to delete those reblogs, nor do you have to cease sharing/distributing things of mine. Just know that if you ask questions, I probably won't be here to answer them.
My love for Kirby and its cast will continue, despite this change. And I do hope the fandom will continue to bloom in my absence.
To everyone who left me such beautiful messages on my previous post, thank you so, so much. I won't forget you all. I hope if our paths cross again, it will be as friends once more. And if not...rest assured that you will forever be a part of my precious memories.

Nicola's Easter Eggs from This Weekend/Week (and What it Could All Mean)
First, I am going to list the most important pieces of information (imo) that N posted on her IG grid or stories this weekend/week (and I will put the date it was posted- I'm on PST so some of these MIGHT have been posted on a different date for N):

Posted on N's stories on Friday, 8/9/24
Posted on N's grid on Saturday, 8/10/24

Posted on N's stories on Sunday, 8/11/24
This song was posted on N's stories on Tuesday, 8/13/24
Also, I want to stress I've been DEEP in delulu this weekend/week over all this because it's made me soo excited, but I analyzed the figure in the sunglasses from her milk tshirt pic for such a long time last night, and I swear... I am like 98% certain I see L's VERY distinct tattoo on the person in the sunglasses (and it's totally in the correct placement). I'll put the pic below. It helps if you zoom in a little bit. And after the song that she posted today, I am 99% certain at this point that L took that photo of her in the tshirt 😭😭😭 I could be wrong about the tattoo lol, BUT I still am almost certain that's him based on the arms!
What Could This All Mean??
I feel like we all have seen the theories at this point around all of these posts/stories, and the MANY Easter Eggs they all contain regarding L OR certain people adjacent to L. Therefore, I am not going to talk about all of the Easter Eggs and what they might be implying. This is what I will say:
If all of this content had not been released publicly in such a short period of time, I don't think I would really have paid that much attention to it, or have been THIS excited. However, it is precisely because N (who is VERY intentional on SM) posted ALL OF THIS in such a short period of time, knowing very well how the fandom would be interpreting it and leaving TONS of Easter Eggs that she's with L, that makes me fairly confident that there has been a VERY positive shift between L/N.
Could I be wrong? Yes. However, the song that she posted today (which I have ALWAYS loved btw 😍), clarified to me that everything she has posted since Friday wasn't just random. That song is a BIG statement! We know that N communicates through music, and this song's lyrics don't leave a lot to interpretation. It is a very sweet and happy love song! Now, could this song be about someone else, or could she just have liked the song and wanted to post it? Yes. But after EVERYTHING she posted on IG since Friday, NOBODY can convince me this song isn't about L!
I don't know what this EXACTLY means right now BTS for ALL parties involved in this situation. However, if L was going to officially acknowledge A as his girlfriend in the near future, would N have posted all of this content in such a short period of time that is very obviously related to L in the fandom? Absolutely not. I think (and a LOT all people might not agree with me on this) that this was an official acknowledgment to the fandom, specifically, that her and L are together currently and happily in love 😭😭😭 I still feel like the situation is probably a little complicated BTS, but something in my gut, based on all this public content the last few days from N, makes me feel like something BIG has changed between her and L, and N therefore feels more comfortable and confident with sharing this type of content with the fandom (and the public). I don't believe that we will get a lot of this type of content from L for a while (for LOTS of different reasons that I think are totally understandable), BUT we might get a couple of little crumbs from him (I'm thinking maybeee through songs). I also don't think they are in any place yet to go officially public, but I DO think that N will continue posting content like this if my theories are true 👀 I also feel like they may make a public announcement sooner than we expected based off of everything from the last couple of days. I have said this before, but I believe that both L/N are aware that this relationship would get serious pretty quickly if they were able to get on the same page. And I think they have 😭😍
Does this mean that L/A are done? I think so. Will we still see some material from A related to L? Maybe. I wouldn't rule that out. I get the sense though, and I have been feeling like this for a while, that L/A really haven't been doing that well in their relationship for a long time based on all the evidence that we now have.
A lot of people might not agree with all of my thoughts here, but I feel pretty confident that the song N posted today is a statement to the public, particularly the fandom, about her feelings currently for L. And it just makes my heart really happy 😍😍😍
#lukola theories#bless the telephone#I've been listening to this song ALL day lol#I literally cried when I found out N posted it 😭😍#I just LOVE N's millennial heart and how she communicates on SM ❤️️#Today was a good day ❤️️❤️️#I feel like we've been VERY well fed since Friday lol

I would love if you could recommend some newer modern Jonsa fics!!!!
Hi anon, Sure! Some modern AU's I am reading/read this year
You tend the ash, and I’ll tend the pine by @eruherdiriel
“Are we really never gonna talk about it?” Arya snaps. “We’re all gonna pretend everything is normal and happy when Sansa just got divorced?” “Statistically, it is normal,” Bran says. “The divorce rate is something like—” “It’s not normal! Not for this family, and not for Sansa. True love, forever and always, that’s Sansa.” “Jon isn’t the person she married,” Catelyn chides. “Not anymore.” — Sansa and Jon get divorced, but fully untangling their lives is impossible.
2. all eyes on us by @theshipshipper
Sansa is one of the biggest popstars on the planet, Jon is among the top streamers in Westeros -- and the internet goes wild when their well-hidden connection is uncovered.
3. frozen pines by @cellsshapedlikestars
It hits Jon, then - the sharp smell of ozone. A scent that years ago, he’d become all too familiar with. The aftermath of a lightning strike, the burning of wires. Electricity heavy in the air. The hair on his arms still stands on end. The scar on his hand feels tight. His heart is still pounding. It’s just a storm coming, he tells himself. He’s in White Harbor, not Eastwatch. It’s just a storm. or, the Exclusion Zone spreads for the first time in almost fifty years, with Sansa trapped inside. Jon will do whatever it takes to get her out.
4. tell me, what's the perfect time? by @prclainivrysteel
"I'm Jon," he reaches out for a handshake, "I probably should've led with that." "Yeah, probably," she replies, fighting against the goofy-looking smile that threatens to take over her face, "I'm Sansa." She slips her hand into his. His fingers are calloused, but the way he touches her is gentle. The cold press of his rings sends a pleasant shudder down Sansa's body, making her toes tingle. Jon softly repeats her name. The tips of his ears are red, most likely from the chilly, September winds. He looks away for a brief moment, as if gathering his thoughts, before meeting her gaze once more. "That’s pretty."
5. how she died by @cellsshapedlikestars
She's buried on a cold, dreary day in late January. That’s all Jon can seem to think about at the funeral. It’s too cold, the sky is too grey. Bleak and barren; there isn’t even snow. It’s an inane, intrusive thought. It could rain, at least, he thinks. The sky should weep for her. The universe should mourn. It doesn’t make sense. No matter how hard he tries, he can’t understand why anyone would murder Sansa Stark.
6. i'm on fire by @cellsshapedlikestars
“Okay,” she says, voice shaking. “I’ll do it. I’ll order an escort.” “Are you sure?” Randa asks, eyes wide like she doesn’t think Sansa is. It only makes Sansa’s teeth grind together. “Yes, I’m sure,” she grits out. If Harry wants an open relationship, she’s going to give it to him.
7. trojan horse by @cellsshapedlikestars
He’s only known her for an hour, but he’s pretty sure he’s in love with her.
8. Attorney–Client Privilege by @kit-kat21
No one in her family had ever done this before. Her parents were true soulmates. Sansa hated to admit that she partially blamed them for giving her such high expectations of marriage and love. Her brother and his wife, Jeyne (Westerling), had just celebrated their twelfth wedding anniversary. None of her grandparents, aunts or uncles had ever been divorced. Sansa Stark was the first in her whole family to have this distinct honor. So there was no one she could ask for help or advice. When she told her parents that she wanted to file first, Ned and Catelyn did what they did with all of their children when one of them came to them. They dove right in and helped the best they could. Googling divorce lawyers seemed to be the only thing they could do and from there, they read reviews because just like restaurants and hair salons, divorce lawyers were online-reviewed, too.
9. snow angels by @kingsansa
He finds, as the hairs on the back of his neck rise, as his heart completely fucking nosedives, that her voice is lower than he remembers, but unmistakable all of the same. Sansa Stark stands in the hallway of his shitty, hole-in-the-wall, egregiously outdated bar; unmistakable.
10. Later Nights by @justadram
Her husband, Jon Snow, might be in his off-season--blessedly. But with the Summer Olympics around the corner, her late-night Olympic show producer, Tyrion Lannister, hasn't forgotten about the unlikely Team USA star and their recording-setting ratings in 2022. He has his sights set on a triumphant rematch between the newlyweds any way he can get it.
11. We Run the Gamut (Let's Run Away) by @hilarychuff
Boy and girl meet. Live parallel lives. And, one day, they start to come together. Scenes inspired by all the different types of love for the Jonsa Valentine's Day Event 2024.
12. Touch me, I’m going to scream by @eruherdiriel
He’s one building away when he sees her—auburn hair in two neat French braids, a grey peacoat on, and hands in green fleece gloves holding a shopping bag that looks heavy. Sansa Stark is walking up the steps of the triple-decker, leaving a sleek, black sedan idling by the curb. Flustered, Jon jogs the rest of the way and reaches the steps just as Sansa raises a hand to ring the buzzer. “Hey,” he says, and she stops her motion. When she turns to him, Sansa’s eyes go wide. “Are you all right?” — Jon and Sansa—how touch evolves between them over the years.

Good morning, evening, or night depending on where you are! Because your honor I’m back on my dark kingdom bullshit, let’s talk about language!
This had been brain rotting me for a few days and I’m finally able to share, yay!!! Very nervous but I’m excited to share
If the dark kingdom had its own language it would be called Umbrasa because the fandom name for the dark kingdom is Umbra.
Let’s start with consonants and vowels:
I feel like the dark kingdom would keep they’re letters simple and few and most definitely distinct in their pronunciation. They’re in a kingdom built in darkness, you have to be able to hear someone clearly because you can’t see their body language or read their lips to understand them better. So the letters are to the point, and easy to understand (not slurred into anything).
I made a few symbols and kept others from the phonological inventory. Here’s a picture!

1-3 are vowels and 4-15 are consonants. You saw right, only 3 vowels here but they can be pair to together in every way (ea, ae, oa, ao, oe, and eo). So there’s options. And only 12 consonants? Yes, yes there are only 12 consonants.
Pronunciation:
1. O (soft) 2. E (hard) 3. A (soft)
4. Ck (that hard k sound)
5. R (hard r, like the r in hard) 6. R (soft r)
7. V (V but without out the little e sound, if that makes sense)
8. Ed (like the British Z but without the z, if that makes sense)
9. Sh (like in shoe)
10. B (the Russian pronunciation of B where the back of the throat is more open)
11. M (soft) 12. L (soft) 13. Wh (like in who)
14. N (like in bang but without the g sound)
15. G (soft like in mage)
Grammar:
Not much here. It has the same noun-verb pattern as English (noun then verb) but there’s no articles (a, an, and the) and there’s not much need for ‘are’ either. Their sentences are also very simple. For example instead “it is ok to cry” it’s “you allow yourself cry” (you are allowed to cry, you can allow yourself to cry).
Words and phrases:
Now there are some common words and phrases that people say because that’s a good kick off point to making it actually speakable.
Words:

1. Ar’ed: Stars 2. K’oo: Moon
3. K’ooar: guiding light, a guide when lost
4. Me: my 5. Mo: no 6. Lee-a: godparent
7. L-o: glow 8. Ron: rock 9. Mar: sun
10. Ba: dark, black, etc
11. Lak: final form, purest, etc 12. Mo-Ba: white
13. Shar: light in the romantic way
14. Bolma: grieve 15. Ash-eba: sorry, apologies
16. Mera: mom 17. Boa: dad 18. Gee: want
19. Whe: you 20. Va: we
Common phrase and expressions:
Ok I’m not translating these because my brain is starting to hurt a little lol, but here you go
1. You know nothing but running (you’re a coward)
2. Move like the gods intended (a playful way of telling someone to move out of the way)
3. Knowledge is the true sword (tell me more)
4. Are there rocks growing in your ears? (I’ve hold you to do something like fives times and you haven’t)
5. The moon is a shamed (you’re more beautiful then the moon)
6. There darkness in their lungs (that person is very sick)
7. You know moonlit water and it’s consequences (you’re hungover)
8. I wish the brotherhood would turn against good (kill me now, this is so embarrassing)
I know this is not very good but it’s a start
Hope y’all enjoyed this to some degree and please give me your thoughts, suggestions, anything! I want to try and build up something we can all use and I would love the fandom to be included ^w^

Okay, my one and only major complaint about Bad Batch is that I don't think they handled Tech's death properly (I still don't think they should have killed him off at all, but here we are; and even if they intend(ed) to leave things open-ended to maybe bring him back later, the titular characters in the show wouldn't have known that); and with all the reasons I've seen floating out there as to WHY Tech's death was handled the way it was and why the characters reacted the way they did (or didn't), I just want to explain why none of the "reasons" cut it for me. If you're satisfied with how Tech was handled in season 3, I am genuinely happy for you (and lowkey jealous, ngl 😉). I've just been thinking about this a lot and need to spell it out!
Reason #1: "Why do we need to see more of the characters mourning? What we got was enough. We don't need a 2 hour episode that's all about the characters grieving." (Yes, someone actually used "2 hours" in their argument.)
Let's recap what we got: 1) A scene where Echo looks sadly at the Marauder's pilot seat, Wrecker actually sheds some tears (bless him), Omega's in denial, and Hunter tells Omega they're going to retire on Pabu because Tech is gone... followed up almost immediately by the villain dropping off broken goggles as the only proof that Tech was ever on Eriadu; 2) a scene where the audience is shown Tech's goggles but Hunter doesn't interact with them- instead, he looks at Lula, proving that his driving motivation is recovering Omega (which is fine when taken from the perspective that he can't do anything about Tech, whereas he can do something for Omega; but that perspective is ultimately just headcanon because the show never reiterates or follows up on this); 3) Wrecker alluding to Tech (not by name) to try to convince Hunter to be more cautious; 4) Omega name-dropping Tech (wait, does Crosshair even know what happened?... yay for context clues, I guess); 5) Echo name-dropping Tech in relation to data decryption with the team looking down sadly for 5 seconds (I timed it) before Crosshair changes the subject; 6) Phee name-dropping Tech in relation to her not knowing what m-count is; 7) Crosshair referring to Tech's information on Ventress; 8) Omega leaving Tech's goggles in the Archeum with none of her brothers around (hot take: it kinda bothers me that the goggles are given the same treatment as Lula, I totally understand the context/deeper meaning of Omega leaving her childhood behind by leaving Lula, but we're talking about the one relic they have of their fallen and irreplaceable brother being given the same emotional weight as a doll); 9) Phee referring to Tech having a discussion with her about Crosshair while Tech's goggles are in the background (and, noticeably, Crosshair doesn't react at all and just changes the subject back to needing a ship); 10) Crosshair says the squad died with Tech, Wrecker says Tech understood the risks, and that's that.
So, what we got was enough to establish that the characters were sad in the immediate aftermath of Tech's death, that some of them may have stayed sad about it all through season 3, and that the show didn't completely forget that Tech had been a main character at one point.
What we DON'T get is any real reference to what Tech meant to the family as an individual and a brother, any real indication of how the loss of Tech (distinct from the mission to save Omega) influences his family's actions or the story's overall narrative, any actual acknowledgement in the show of Tech's sacrifice having any meaning or the family moving past grief to express any form of gratitude for Tech's presence and influence on their lives, any reference to Tech having a true impact on 4 of his 5 siblings (Omega is the closest we get to witnessing Tech's continued influence on any of his siblings and even seeing that involves squinting/head tilts at times)... in other words, we get a few minutes of sadness, but never any catharsis. We see they miss him, but never does this truly inform the narrative or their decisions in season 3, AND it's left frustratingly vague where the characters are in the grieving process (more on that later).
Besides, no one (that I have come across, at least) was ever asking for a 2 hour episode. At most, Kanan got a 22-minute "eulogy" episode, and most of us aren't even asking for that. I'd have been at least minimally satisfied with a "Mayday moment" for Tech - and that scene lasted a grand total of 20 seconds. What would have been more satisfying would have been the show taking all those superficial name drops and converting at least a few of them into meaningful mentions indicating what Tech means to his brothers and/or how he continues to have an influence on his family and/or how his sacrifice is a motivating factor for them.
Reason #2: "There was no time."
Leaving aside the fact that there was apparently plenty of time and opportunity to make Tech (among others) a red herring...
Let's assume that the showrunners were not only told they only had 1 season left to wrap everything up, but were given highly specific time allotments for each episode to where they weren't allowed to add any scenes (I highly doubt this is what happened, but we're rolling with the "no time" thing here). You know what you do in that scenario when you're talking about something like following up on a main character's death that clearly has left your entire fanbase in an uproar? You MAKE time: you trim down the action scenes, you make the characters walk a little bit faster, you decide whether an extended scene of Echo giving Omega a crossbow that is never going to show up again is actually worth saving (I actually like the scene, by the way; just giving an example), you cut out a few of the extremely vague lines of dialogue Fennec and Asajj indulge in. What you DON'T do is kill off a beloved main character and then rely on convenient time lapses/time skips to just brush over all the fallout apart from a few name drops that do nothing to establish just how important said character was to the other characters in the show.
What's more, they could have EASILY included some true closure with ANY of the Tech name-drops/scenes that were already in the show. Have Hunter look at Tech's goggles before looking beyond them at Lula in 3.02. Have the brothers be present with Omega when she decides to leave Tech's goggles in the Archeum in 3.11. Have any of the brothers say one meaningful line about Tech while they're otherwise silently basking in the sunshine in the end scene on Pabu in 3.15!
Reason #3: "They're soldiers."
Of all the reasons given for why Tech's death was mishandled, I dislike this one the most. What does CF99 being soldiers have to do with the aftermath of Tech's death being reduced to perfunctory allusions? (If you want to get into the argument that soldiers in general have to figure out a way to "move on" and The Clone Wars didn't really spend any time on the clones processing losses after battles, let me just say I don't care for how this topic is covered in The Clone Wars either, and Bad Batch was a golden opportunity for the Star Wars franchise to move past this unfortunate trope.) Fallen soldiers in real life get memorials/funerals too, even if it's months after the battle. Fallen soldiers are honored and remembered by their families and those closest to them. If the show is trying to push the stereotype that soldiers move on from tragic deaths of comrades by being "stoic" and holding it all in and never talking about it, I strongly disagree with the perpetuation of this stereotype; and if the characters as soldiers actually DID grieve Tech in a healthy way, why didn't the show depict it?
Reason #4: "Star Wars writers don't know how to write meaningful scenes/payoff regarding death and characters dealing with death/loss."
The Bad Batch writers proved time and again how brilliant they are at writing emotional storylines with maximum payoff. Case in point: Mayday. Enough said (I'm writing too much on this general topic as it is).
Reason #5: "They got over it."
Maybe I'm reading things wrong, but a rather drastic change in behavior for one character (going from cautious and weighing all risks, to reckless and jumping headfirst into situations without proper backup), and another character including Tech's death as just one reason why he "deserves" to go on a suicide mission, does not read to me as the characters "getting over it." It reads to me as "avoidance behavior" and "continued internal conflict." (Granted, Hunter's more reckless behavior in season 3 likely had as much to do with the Omega situation as it did Tech's death, but the point still stands. And if the point DOESN'T still stand, then I've got even MORE issues with how this plotline was handled, so we'll just keep assuming it does.)
Furthermore, if the characters had truly "gotten over it," there shouldn't have been any hesitation or issue with them discussing and honoring Tech in meaningful ways.
Reason #6: "They DIDN'T get over it."
Right, and we ended the show that way, with no clear resolution to them actually coming to terms with Tech's death and honoring his memory. Great.
Reason #7: "Whatever. It's good Tech stayed dead. Tech's sacrifice meant something."
... Did it? Did it really? I mean, I know I say quite frequently that Tech's sacrifice is what made the happy ending possible for the others (because that's the only thought that got me through a rewatch of season 3). But the show, the narrative itself, certainly doesn't act like it really meant anything. Hunter says in the season 2 finale that they "weren't going to waste Tech's sacrifice" because they were going to retire on Pabu... and that discussion promptly gets forgotten and never brought up again, not even when the squad is trying to stay off the Empire's radar in season 3 after Omega returns. Never is there any discussion that "not wasting Tech's sacrifice" by hiding on Pabu to make sure no one else dies (a very understandable reaction, of course) also goes against the very mission Tech pushed for in the first place: rescuing Crosshair. Never do we hear Omega tell Crosshair, "Tech didn't give up on you, I'm not giving up on you, that's why you ARE going to escape with me." Never is there any talk about "Tech wanted us to live and stay together, so that is what we are going to do." Never is there any acknowledgement at the end of the show that they are all going to live in peace on Pabu because Tech made sure they could live.
The last half of season 4 of Rebels is full of references to Kanan's sacrifice actually meaning something and having direct tangible consequences not only for the family but for Lothal and the Rebellion. For one thing, the show itself literally spells out that the mission to shut down the Imperial factories on Lothal was actually a success because all the fuel reserves were destroyed - Kanan had died, but the mission had succeeded and directly led to the success of the bigger mission to completely free Lothal, and while this is very poor consolation for the loss of Kanan, at least the show openly acknowledged it. Kanan and his influence is also openly credited for Ezra foiling Palpatine's plans with the Jedi Temple and the WBW, Ezra learning to let go and again disrupting Palpatine's plans in the finale, and doing what was needed to ensure Lothal was fully freed.
Imagine how different Rebels would be if Kanan's death had been treated like Tech's: no mention that his role on the mission had any impact whatsoever. No reference to Ezra or any other member of the Ghost crew living up to what Kanan had taught them all - or, at best, there's a perfunctory reference in the epilogue that Ezra decided to keep using the Force the way Kanan had taught him to. No depiction of Ezra or Hera or Sabine or Zeb accepting Kanan's death and letting go of the pain while holding on to the memories. Nothing to show that any of the Ghost crew members act in memory of Kanan or that he is a motivating influence on them. No indication that Kanan's sacrifice drives Ezra to decide to follow up on their initial success with the factories and ultimately completely drive the Empire from Lothal.
Rebels just wouldn't be nearly as fulfilling.
Now, imagine if Tech's death had been treated like Kanan's, and maybe it will become more clear why I have a REALLY hard time agreeing with the argument that the show itself actually depicted Tech's death as "meaning something."
#the bad batch#star wars the bad batch#i guess this is fandom salt#because i just don't see any reason why tech's fate couldn't have been given the care and attention it deserved#tbb tech#tbb season 3 spoilers#star wars rebels#star wars rebels spoilers

This is, again, a rant about the Grishaverse, on this occasion, about things that annoy me, so if you disagree, you're correct, too.
Let me preface this by saying: I love the books! I devoured the original trilogy, and I'm currently reading the SOC duology. However, there's things that make me want to kill someone:
1. Let's start off with one of the most important: In Russian (one of the base language for Ravkan), Grisha is basically Greg. Yes, it also means "watchful" BUT my problem is that if you're using a language as the base for another language, you shouldn't use something as common as "Greg" to be the name of your supernatural/magical/whatever-the-hell-Grisha-are species.
2. Tailors. And you might ask: what's the problem with Tailors? Well, technically, none. The problem is that it is stated that ALL the Corporalki are capable of using tailoring. FURTHERMORE, NINA ZENIK HAS A SIDE HUSTLE AS A TAILOR. So, why was Genya made fun of? Because if I remember correctly, the Grisha saw her as "useless"... But the Corporalki are capable of being Tailors, too? I don't, it's just confusing.
3. And, speaking of confusing things: the plurals and singulars of the Grisha orders... What do you mean a group of Heartrenders is a group of Corporalki, BUT ONE HEARTRENDER IS A CORPORALNIK??? it's unnecessarily complicated, and I refuse to discuss it.
4. Another thing that bothers me to unexplainable levels is the Squallers' trick at the end of Ruin and Rising... Like, you're telling me Squallers are capable of bending sound, that they know they're capable of bending sound, but no one ever told the Darkling about it. NOT ONLY THAT. You're telling me that in 400 YEARS the Darkling never learned that ability? Why wasn't it used before? No, it was kept for Sankta Alina.
5. I already talked about this in another post, so I'm not going in too much depth: Alina losing her powers at the end of Ruin and Rising is unnecessary and unfair.
6. Keeping it on the topic of Alina... Why did Mal survive? It would've been so interesting to see Alina lose Mal, keep her powers, and be sent in the same path as the Darkling. It would've been so interesting to see if she would become the same as Alekzander or not. Instead, the tracker lives and she gets happily ever after?????
7. What language do they speak in Ravka? Because it's technically Ravkan, but on multiple occasions, the distinction of a single word said in Ravkan is made, meaning they have to speak something else most of the time... But what? Is it English?
8. I am become a blade. No need to explain that one.
9. I'm still reading SOC, so I'll perhaps have another opinion once I read the King of Scars duology, but why the fuck does Zoya become all-powerful (and I mean that literally, she all Etherealki types in one, and I'm pretty sure she also develops Corporalki abilities) yet Alina loses her powers? I'm offended by that, and it's coming from someone who LOVES Zoya's character.
10. The maps and geography of the Grishaverse. I don't think explanation is truly needed, just look at the maps and tell me there isn't something weird.
I'll probably keep adding to this in the future, but if you want to add something that annoys you or debate one of my points, that's completely valid, too!

9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 15
Athena and Buck
LMAO “cause he’s useless!”
Buck ain’t having their shit.
Yeah that’s a code.
Athena and Buck on a chase again.
YES WE LIKE WILLIAMS!
Now why would Karen say some shit like that?
“I don’t know science but I do know arson!”
Buck is hilarious this episode. All these one liners are great.
I don’t think anyone cares about the distinction between current or ex boyfriend.
Yep the military has choppers too. It’s kinda their shtick.
Why do I only see Buck and Tommy? Where’s Athena? Oh they dropped her off somewhere. Had to.
Hopefully she’s at the lab already!
KAREN CAME IN CLUTCH!
I’m not ready y’all.
The lab
😪 Here we go
Oh shit she set it on fire. WHY?! WHAT WAS THE POINT?! The man was knocked out she could’ve gotten away.
LMAO “you’re in a giant chemistry set”
RAVI NOOOO
Ah shit they’re out of oxygen.
Why did Bobby grab his oxygen thing like that?
No sleeping on the job 😂😂
It’s not the same Chim. Your dad just left the country. You’re dying. That’s different.
I’m already sad. It’s not even at That Point
Chim you aren’t dying. That’s what’s going on.
LMAO Why Buck come in like that?
Oh not Buck noticing he’s not coming.
No he won’t be okay. I’m not okay.
OH NOT THE I LOVE YOU KID yep I’m done for.
Bruh watching this shit in real time and not being spoiled must have been a mind fuck. Thinking everybody is safe only to watch Bobby… I can’t even say it.
How dare he send his son away? Also Buck knowing and leaving anyway. 💔💔
NOT ALL THE PARTS 😭😭😭😭😭
Moira
You’re giving off psychopath vibes.
Oh good that man knew.
You are a terrible criminal.
Miscellaneous
Ugh. I have to join reality now and finish the season. (I know what gonna happen 😭😭)
A tumbler? Really? That’s how she’s carrying it around?
Why are they killing all the father figures? (I’m talking Fire Country, assuming they kill Vince off)
I hurt.
I don’t like this.
That was bullshit.

All references in TiBiBiBaP
Under the cut you'll find all the little references and allusions made in Then it Becomes, it Becomes, it Becomes a Problem because I kept track of them and hey, why not, right?
It's going to include some stuff that probably seems painfully obvious. And did I miss some? Most likely, yes.
Obviously this contains MAJOR SPOILERS lol
Chapter 1:
Bill-proof suit -> The Book of Bill (TBoB from here on out)
Post-it notes -> TBoB
Shave-and-a-haircut -> classic call-and-response
“Have you come to steal my eyes?” -> S02E12, a Tale of Two Stans
Venus de Milo -> ancient Greek marble statue
Chapter 2:
“…grisly warzone that had once been their favourite taco place.” -> TBoB burrito paradox incident
“hourglass-shaped container” -> inspired by the ‘Cosmic Sand’ from S02E08 Blendin's Game and also the oracle page in Journal 3
“Vigilantes vel somniantes vel ambo…” -> this is actually a direct reference to a poem I wrote
“…you never needed the feather, Dumbo!” -> this scene in Dumbo
“The first line of the pyramid is also a theorem; it follows directly from axiom two.” -> Gödel, Escher, Bach: an eternal golden braid by Hofstadter, Douglas R., page 224. All of Amorphous Shape's dialogue comes from GEB because I'm saying that all of reality is consciousness-based (specifically Axolotl-based). What is Amy? A mystery, at her core. Some kind of expression of the fractal structure of the multiverse.
"in the backroom" -> did I spell back room incorrectly?? No. I did this on purpose.
Chapter 3:
My take on the mindscape is loosely based on Plato’s theory of Forms with some scaffolded fractal panpsychism thrown in for good measure
“…grains of sand on every beach…” -> reference to Carl Sagan's book Cosmos
5D Chess with Multiverse Time Travel -> reference to the actual game
Chapter 4:
“It would be insane for a serial killer to press and stamp their own fake pain killers…” -> allusion to the Tylenol murders
Photocopier -> S01E07, Double Dipper
“Route 14” -> Journal 3
Chapter 5:
“…a large gourd with an unnervingly friendly face.” -> Journal 3
“ten distinct varieties of spectra” -> Journal 3
“a huge chess pawn” -> seen in the background of various Gravity Falls episodes (in the attic)
“Teen and Up” -> reference to AO3's rating system
“chamomile, cardamom, and dandelion root” -> chosen for their occult and medical properties: chamomile is associated with calm, cardamom is associated with love, dandelion root is associated with change. Basically a little spell to keep Ford thinking good thoughts about Bill.
Chapter 6:
“Chumbo’s hungry” -> TBoB
“singing the alphabet backwards and chanting Z-O-Z-O-Z-O” -> these are two common ouija board events that are attributed to demons
“Bring spiders! Sixer liked those.” -> TBoB
“The sum of the angles in a triangle is 180 degrees only in Euclidean geometry; it is greater in elliptic geometry, less in hyperbolic.” -> Gödel, Escher, Bach: an eternal golden braid by Hofstadter, Douglas R., page 100
“party like it’s 1346!” -> this is the year the bubonic plague started
Chapter 7:
“There are these cows” -> Journal 3
“The Collector” -> a real Marvel villain
“eaten by Steve” -> Journal 3
“A mop and a bucket.” -> allusion to the various Handyman Bill AUs
“STARVING BLACK HOLES HAVE EATEN ALL LIGHT” -> that's entropy, babyyyy. Specifically, I was thinking about this video: time lapse of the future
“He wants his mother to cut the crusts off his sandwiches.” -> TBoB (burrito paradox 911 call script)
Chapter 8:
“the Purple Man” -> also a Marvel villain
“nice birthday present” -> TBoB
“I don’t want to be a fish!” -> the theory that hiccups are an old fish reflex
“Or Plato?” -> allusion to the allegory of the cave which is linked to Plato's Forms
Chapter 9:
“…has caused me harm in the following ways” -> common script for intervention letters
“A potato-shaped creature with a jelly-like consistency and four eyes” -> Journal 3
“Et tu, Brute?” -> Julius Caesar of course
“this space was originally my biospec lab” -> and that’s what it is in the show according to S02E15, The Last Mablecorn. I tried to stay true to this layout but I did make a few changes.
“He gave me rats for my birthday.” -> TBoB
Chapter 10:
“For here it is true that si paullum a summo discessit, vergit ad imum. I turned back when I saw that no man can reach the bottom of this night.” -> Gödel, Escher, Bach: an eternal golden braid by Hofstadter, Douglas R., page 92
“We cannot make the loop any tighter, but we can open it wider, by choosing to insert any number of intermediate levels, such as ‘picture frame’, ‘arcade’, and ‘building…’” -> Gödel, Escher, Bach: an eternal golden braid by Hofstadter, Douglas R., page 716
“Nice place to visit, but I wouldn’t want to live there.” -> direct quote from the Twilight Zone, S01E28
“The architect of my own destiny.” -> paraphrase of Jean-Paul Sartre
“Self-made man” -> paraphrase of Frederick Douglass
“portable portal device” -> allusion to the portal gun Rick and Morty... bordering on reference the further into the story we go... lol
Chapter 11:
Tachyon Queso’s Time-Loop Pizza Palazzo —> this is obviously just Chuck E. Cheez which, apparently, used to be called "Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza Time Theatre"
Chapter 12:
“Mens, corpus, in aethere separatum, spiritu unitum” –> I swear this is a reference to Supernatural but I can't remember which incantation I was thinking of
Chapter 13:
Multibear → S01E06, Dipper Vs. Manliness
"Just a couple tweaks" -> reference to Let's Get Weird by Longest Solo Ever
Chapter 14:
“If you wanted to go back and replace axiom one by its negation, you could not just do that by itself; you would have to delete all theorems which had involved axiom one in their derivations.” → Gödel, Escher, Bach: an eternal golden braid by Hofstadter, Douglas R., page ?? (forgot to record the page number, so sorry lol. When I reread I'll fix this)
“Querying the system about some particular idea sets up a goal in the form of a string to be derived.” → Gödel, Escher, Bach: an eternal golden braid by Hofstadter, Douglas R., page ?? (same issue as above)
“hyperdrive from crash site Omega” → Journal 3
“concentrated dark matter” → reference to Rick and Morty, S01E04, M. Night Shaym-Aliens!
“shadow realm” → reference to Yu-Gi-Oh!
“Magrathea” → planet in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Sikaris → planet in Star Trek (Voyager, S01E10, Prime Factors)
Naboo → planet in Star Wars
Arrakis → planet in Dune
Golden fiddle → reference to The Devil Went Down to Georgia
Chapter 15:
“Swayze-style” & “You had me at ‘ditto!’” → references to Ghost (1990)
Chapter 16:
Nothing here except a bunch of over-simplified neuroanatomy.
Chapter 17:
“Krombo-whoever-the-fuck” → allusion to Krombopulous Michael from Rick and Morty, S02E02, Mortynight Run
“she’d figured out how to set water on fire” → that one chemical that can do that. I forget. I think it's lithium? It also burns pink, so I think this was Alex's intention for Pyronica
Jheselbraum → Journal 3
Chapter 18:
“he had Jennifer Aniston beat in that regard” → reference to the Jennifer Aniston neuron
“what was his name… George? Henry?” → allusion to a series of comments where people kept getting Gary's name wrong. It really cracked me up. Like, yes, exactly! Gary is barely a person. Hilarious.
“‘Subsystem’ is just another name for an overgrown symbol, one which has gotten so complicated that it has–” → Gödel, Escher, Bach: an eternal golden braid by Hofstadter, Douglas R., page 384
“spiritui esto subiecto voluntati meae" -> and then Snooki appears! Reference to Supernatural, S9E16, Blade Runners
“Greek superstition” → parsley is associated with the dead in Greek mythology
“Yarrow? Frankincense?” & “absinthe?” → chosen for their occult properties. Yarrow is associated with removing blockages, frankincense with ritual amplification and consecration of ritual spaces, and absinthe is associated with spirit communication
Chapter 19:
“Anima, corpori fuerit corpus totem resurgent.” → reference to Supernatural, S8E1, We Need to Talk About Kevin. Fun fact: Amina (Anima backwards) just so happens to stand in for "amen" in Arabic in certain circumstances. Neat how that worked out.
And lots more oversimplified neuroanatomy. I like brain science. :3
Also thank you to my university's physics department and to some very helpful people on discord who checked my math on those three problems.
Chapter 20:
"Dammit, Janet" -> a song from Rocky Horror Picture Show
“fucking Nosferatu” → Nosferatu :) obviously :)
Chapter 21:
“Obtuse Society” → From this panel about the pitch document for TBoB (here's the actual document)
Chapter 22:
“cells, interlinked” → Pale Fire by Vladimir Nabakov
“Dr. Jacobi” → Laura Palmer's therapist in Twin Peaks
“Did the lambs get too loud for you, Clarice?” → Silence of the Lambs
“salt on Ford’s windowsills” → allusion to Supernatural. Just salt everywhere.
Chapter 23:
“stupid… calcium” → lack of calcium re-uptake is one of the causes of rigor mortis
Chapter 23:
I am purposefully drawing parallels between Bill's trauma-based dissociative experiences and my own experiences with dissociative disorders. This is also a nod to Disco Elysium!
"jelly doughnut" -> reference to the autopsy snack time trope
Chapter 24:
Nothing here
Chapter 25:
This chess game is just The Immortal Zugzwang
Chapter 26:
"a tattoo guy" -> it could be any of the embarrassing tattoos tbh (but it's definitely the "if lost return to Bill Cipher" one from TBoB, the "my muse and me" page)
Moloko plus → disgusting milk-based beverage in A Clockwork Orange
That ol’ Janx Spirit → alcoholic component of the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Chapter 27:
The spot in the Atlantic ocean that Ford is referencing is meant to be the Bermuda triangle
“Eyepatch?” → allusion to Theseus' Guide to Ruining a Perfectly Good Boat by @stump-not-found
The cake in this scene is an internal reference to the moment that Bill saw in chapter 7 which he was using to anchor his behaviour in subsequent chapters. In case.... anyone missed that. It was a very small moment.
"Just rebrand it as an adhesive exfoliating strip. The rash means it’s working." -> Stan's bandaid brand, "The Rip-Off," that won't give you rashes from S02E12, A Tale of Two Stans
The final scene with Bill is a reference to the one therapy session we see on thisisnotawebsitedotcom.com when you type in "even his lies are lies"
Spiders Georg -> we all know this guy, I hope
