A statuette of the goddess Isis and her divine son Horus, powerful symbols of rebirth in ancient Egypt. The item dates back to the Ptolemaic Period (332 - 30 BCE) and is made of Egyptian faience, a manufactured glazed ceramic material. This lovely piece (55.121.5) is on display in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA. Photo (edited): Public Domain Isis was a major goddess in Egypt. She was first mentioned in the Old Kingdom (circa 2686 - 2160 BCE) as one of the main characters of the Osiris myth, where she had conquered death through love; she was the symbol of the mysterious creative power which had produced the earth and all living things. Isis was believed to help the dead enter the afterlife as she had helped Osiris, and she was considered the divine mother of the king, who was associated with Horus. Moreover, her maternal tenderness was invoked in healing spells to benefit ordinary people. The worship of Isis spread throughout the Greco world with the start of the Ptolemaic Period. As Ptolemaic and the wider Hellenistic culture was absorbed by Rome in the first century BCE, the cult of Isis became part of Roman religion. Early Christians sometimes worshiped before the statues of Isis suckling the infant Horus, seeing in them another form of the ancient and noble myth by which woman, creating all things, becomes at last the Mother of God. The worship of Isis was ended by the rise of Christianity in the fourth and fifth centuries CE. This gave way to Christian full veneration of Mary, who is also revered in Islam for giving virgin birth to Allah's Prophet Jesus who, according to the Quran, was conceived by her through the intervention of the divine spirit, archangel Gabriel. #egyptpassion #iregipto #egypt#thegiftsofmindfulness #ashleymariemoderndayalchemist https://www.instagram.com/p/BwenP8Gh1I5/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=adiy5qrtj6d2

Detail of a painted limestone statue of Queen Meryetamun, the fourth daughter of King Ramesses II (reigned from circa 1279 to 1213 BCE during the 19th Dynasty). Her name means 'Beloved of Amun'. She was promoted to the position of Great Royal Wife to become her father's consort sometime after the death of her mother, Queen Nefertari. This fine sculpture (JE 31413) is now in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo, Egypt. Photo: Tyldesly, Joyce, Chronicle of the Queens of Egypt, Thames & Hudson Ltd, London, UK, 2006. The exquisite workmanship in addition to the gentle smile and graceful presence make this work one of the most beautiful statues of the Ramesside period. Meryetamun's ornate wig is held in place by a double band that supports two royal serpents wearing the crowns of Upper and Lower Egypt. A circular base rests upon the queen's head, decorated with multiple uraei with sun-disks; this base would have once supported the large disk and double plumes, which are typical of queenly headdresses during that period. Ramesses II took at least three of his daughters, including Meryetamun, as queen consorts following their mothers' deaths. Scholars, however, have debated whether this was through consummated marriage or they were consorts in name only. Meryetamun died during her father's long reign and was buried in the Valley of the Queens. #egyptpassion #iregipto #thegiftsofmindfulness #ashleymariemoderndayalchemist #alchemistofunconditionallove #egyptpassion_ #pyramids #spiritualconnection https://www.instagram.com/p/BuUBzG7hzlm/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=180z0j5yxtmuj

Egyptian Mau
The Egyptian Mau is a rare breed renown for its exotic appearance, being one of the only naturally spotted breeds of domesticated cat. They are unique in many ways, showing exceptional intelligence and a fierce loyalty to their owners. They tend to be extremely outgoing on their own territory, with an abundance of curiosity and no fear. They are said to make wonderful companions History of the Egyptian Mau Cat The Egyptian Mau, (Mau being the Egyptian word for cat) is notable for being one of the only naturally spotted domesticated cat. In other words, the spotting pattern was not created by human manipulation of feline genes.
Appearance
The Egyptian Mau is typically very slender and muscular with an average sized body and is thought to be one of the progenitor breeds of the modern domestic cat. They have a slightly rounded wedge-shaped head topped with medium-size ears. The Mau’s front legs are slightly shorter than their back legs and built for speed. They are said to be the fastest of all domestic cats, reaching speeds of up to 30mph. The Egyptian Mau also has a long skin fold underneath its belly, extending from the flanks to the hind legs, resembling a cheetah. This allows their back legs to stretch further backwards, allowing remarkable freedom and agility. The Mau has a medium-long tail, which is thick at the base, tapering slightly at the end. All Mau’s must have green eyes, but an amber colour is acceptable in kittens and young cats up to 18 months old. Coat One of the Mau’s most striking characteristics is their spotted coat in either bronze, silver or smoke (pale silver tipped in black). Their coat is medium length and has a silky, fine texture in the smoke coloration and a dense, resilient texture in the silver and bronze colours. The spots on their coat can be small or large, round, oblong, or other shapes. The Egyptian Mau’s forehead bears an ‘M’ shape or a ‘scarab beetle’ marking. Those with the latter tend to be from America. They also have ‘mascara’ lines that begin at the eyes’ outer corners and extend along the cheek and curve upwards towards the ears. The Egyptian Mau also has dark spots on its pale belly that resemble ‘vest buttons’.In addition to the aforementioned colours, the Egyptian Mau can also come in solid black, blue silver, blue smoke, blue spotted and solid blue. However, these colours are not permitted in the show ring.
Personality
It is said that people are attracted to the Egyptian Mau because of their exotic looks but fall in love with them because of their infectious personality. They are absolutely enchanting and truly one of a kind. The breed is friendly to everyone in the family and people they know but tend to be more cautious around strangers. Extremely curious and outgoing, this cat has no fear while on their own territory, making them wonderful pets. They love playing fetch, learning tricks and interact well with children provided they treat them politely and with respect. The Mau is a very interactive cat that dotes on their humans, expecting to be an integral part of the family. While they are by no means hyper, they reportedly have some of the fastest reflexes ever seen in a feline. The breed is quite sensitive and likes to have things on their own terms. The Egyptian Mau is also a skilled hunter and it’s advised that you introduce any pets, even other cats, slowly and in a controlled setting.

See an edenic island full of mineral springs, salt lakes and endless Olive and Palm groves. For a cultural tour in Shali, the oasis' main town, check out the strange ruins of the Shali Fortress which dominate the town center and walk along sandy paths to find the Temple of the Oracle, once visited by Alexander the Great himself to consult the Oracle of Siwa. Finish your day by taking a dip at Cleopatra's Pool, where the legendary queen herself is believed to have once swum. Don’t forget to buy some Siwan Crafts on your way, and spare an hour or two for a visit to the charming Siwa House Museum. Adventurous travelers will also get their fix of fun and excitement by heading for a safari into the great sand sea or trying out quad biking in the Western Desert of Egypt. #egyptpassion #iregipto #thegiftsofmindfulness #ashleymariemoderndayalchemist #egyptpassion_ https://www.instagram.com/p/BuRiLwiBZYT/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1o4ffd34i06kg

A scene on quartzite block from the Red Chapel of the female Pharaoh Hatshepsut in the Karnak Temple Complex. It shows celebrations of the annual Opet Festival, involving musical and acrobatic performances. Photo source: Verner, Miroslav, Temple of the World: Sanctuaries, Cults, and Mysteries of Ancient Egypt, The American University in Cairo Press, Cairo, Egypt, 2013. Opet was celebrated during the second month of the season of Nile inundation. During this festival the god Amun, his consort Mut, and their son Khonsu made a ritual journey in a joyous procession from their main temples at Karnak to the Temple of Luxor. This ensured Amun's rebirth, and restored his creative power and the order of the cosmos. It also allowed Amun to re-communicate his power to the king and thereby renew the latter's right to rule. #Mo_sharkawi1 #egyptpassion #retreat #yoga #inspiration #ashleymariemoderndayalchemist #thegiftsofmindfulness #iregipto https://www.instagram.com/p/BvNXfHVBE10/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1kbbcabf687er

West Suhail village a lifetime journey West Suhail, a Nubian village on the west bank of the Nile, only a few kilometers from Aswan Dam and about 900 kilometers west of Cairo . The village, which has been offering visitors a unique and exceptional hospitality for years, has never failed to captivate both heart and mind. It offers a real Nubian life experience filling the hearts of everyone present with lots of excitement. The village, typically Nubian and containing more than small blue-and-white 50 homes with their nicely cut yellow, wooden windows and green-and-brown doors fill the skyline. Above them beams of red and orange light radiate from the moon. the village gives its visitors the feeling of being at home away from the artificial nature of hotel life. Inside the one-story homes of the village, tourists spend totally Nubian times. In just few days in the village, they sleep in the homes of the Nubian residents, eat their food and drink local drinks. Most village homes are divided into two parts, one for the manufacture of Nubian products, such as handmade hats and dresses and the Nubian drink hibiscus as well as the locally made ground nuts. The other part of the homes is specified for the hospitality of the tourists. Outside the homes, women and children make products to sell to the hundreds of visiting tourists. West Suhail is an intrinsic part of the itinerary of many tourists visiting southern Egypt. Residents want tourists to lead the Nubian life, which gave rise to the village in its original place of a century ago. A lifetime journey that cannot be missed or trespass #egyptpassion #iregipto #egypt #cairo #time #moonlight #moon #thegiftsofmindfulness #ashleymariemoderndayalchemist #pyramids #yogateachers #yogastudent #yogachallenge #yogalife #alchemistofunconditionallove #thisisegypt #retreat #yoga #inspiration #theking #Tutankhamun #diadem #princess #middlekingdom #senusret #night #tourism #travel #culture #history https://www.instagram.com/p/Bv-AYYJBgeq/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=18gg6ofvoi95t
