girlies who haunt the narrative REPRESENT
Tumblr media
[out of character] it's meant to be a sketch of Asphodel. I remember an ask from a while ago mentioning that she was represented by dead roses

Asphodel lore established so far: Asphodel is a character who dies before the story even begins, but haunts the narrative. It seems implied that she was Radiance's first target before Rose, and at the end of the series her ghost is one of the ones that kills Radiance
Fennel lore established so far: Belladonna's half-brother, both of them being children of Radiance's right hand man and being essentially adopted by Radiance after his death. Fennel's strength comes from the fact that he never gave up on being good and kind, even though it only brought more trouble and tragedy upon him. He helps save Lily when they get captured by Radiance, he's important to Lux's switching sides, and of course he means a lot to Belladonna. Lastly, though somewhat more of a fun fact compared to everything else, he keeps rats as pets.
Please note that lore can still be added for either as long as it doesn't contradict anything previously established as canon

I think that Asphodel and Belladonna were close friends, you can't change my mind

okay I've got two conflicting (or at least, I cant figure out how to get them together under one canon) asks about Asphodel and yknow what this time im gonna let democracy decide
(I also have a lot of "what Does Radiance want from Rose, if the "rose IS the rose of ice" thing is strictly a theory" going on in my head but that's for later cause its distracting me from answering asks if I sit here puzzling abt it)

Ok but the scene of Asphodel putting an end to Radiance for good? Immaculate. The author really wanted to hammer in the fact that nothing in life Radiance that did mattered in death; all of her followers have either died or deserted her, all of her mind games and manipulation all fell flat in the face of Asphodel's eerie implacability, her once blinding light was completely dwarfed by the shadow of the sins she had committed, literally represented by the shades of the people she'd killed. Even her cruelty was brushed aside for Rose's act of kindness, giving her blood to the offerings as to strengthen Asphodel enough to say her piece (and boy does she). She died alone, humbled and powerless at the hands of the people she killed without a second thought for her own ends, and that's *chef's kiss* the cherry on top is how she's being paralleled to the River Lethe; how it's by drinking her light (or her blood? idk, i feel like that was graphic enough for a ya book) that the ghosts of her victims were able to move on at last
Yeah I thought Radiance's death was done super well. With Rose being the protagonist you expect her to deal the final blow, but instead she helps the shades and gives them the strength to destroy Radiance themselves- it has the cool bonus of Radiance being destroyed by her own sins, and Rose is just involved enough that it doesn't feel like the build-up between the protagonist and the antagonist was wasted
and also #LEAK from the tv show, omg is that Radiance's death?
[OOC this joke contains Hollow Knight spoilers I guess?]

See there's Rose, and there's Asphodel, and there's Radiance, /j

ooc: The way we have enough bits and pieces that I can see like an actual plot forming for at least book 1 aaaaaaaa I love this weird fake series ic: Do you think Asphodel was the first girl Radiance's group tried to turn into the Ice Rose? (I know that's just a theory but like, it's basically canon. Whatever they really wanted Rose for if you don't subscribe to it) Or was she just the first one Rose and her friends found out about? Because I always felt like it was implied that the same fate that met Asphodel was waiting for Rose if she messed up. (the "withered, blackened petals" surrounding her corpse kinda sells it for me)
Oh yeah, while I'd still say it's not canon that Radiance wanted to turn Rose into the literal Rose of Ice (even as I am a fan of that theory) I do think it is canon that like, Radiance plans on doing the same she did to Asphodel to Rose- though clearly what happened to Asphodel was a failure, and this time she wants a success.

I'm surprised Asphodel hasn't been brought up yet. She's literally the best character, I don't care that she was dead for the entire series. She's alive in my heart and in my aus </#
Me shipping Asphodel and Alexandria like "What if.... we were haunting the same narrative.... AND we're both girls"

Maybe Asphodel was the target of the necromancy spell (given she was the failed test subject) because Isabeth wanted a way to impress Radiance by procuring the Rose of Ice, and when she failed, she did the next best thing (Asphodel)?
I think you meant to say Alexandria in that last parenthesis there, but yeah that's an interesting theory!

“how didn’t you think of that one” I was busy thinking of Rose and Lily as possible candidates for Chara and Asriel, along with some others
Let me explain my reasonings, bc I love doing that,
Rose and Lily - Central to the story - Didn’t know each other for most of their lives but became friends and siblings relatively quickly after meeting (I know they didn’t really “become” siblings so much as find out that they were, but you know) - the Golden Flowers are kind of like a big design motif in Undertale, and it would make sense in an aroiis undertale au if it was Blue Roses
and while we’re here, the other candidates in my head are,
Etienne and Currant - siblings - I think Etienne would fit the sort of whole deal where people thought Chara was evil, but actually things were more complicated than that
Asphodel and Alexandria - though not really connected in aroiis canon, they share one notable factor; Haunting The Narrative. which Chara and Asriel do. - If you pair this one with Rose being Frisk, and make Asphodel be Chara, that sort of parallels what they are to each other in aroiis canon (that said I really like the idea of Kivan as Frisk)
Anyway, all of this is just spitballing ideas, and is even less concretely canon than other stuff I spitball, because it’s an au, which is just for fun
anyone who makes rose sans in the ut au is deliberately wrong sorry. yes they have the blue/white and the eye thing but theyre still wrong. expressing this now before people get ideas in their heads
asjdkfljdsakl you know what, I didn't even think of that one yet. I'm surprised
