So, his birth time is unknown. I personally think he looks like either an Aries or Scorpio rising, though. He immediately gave that Scorpio energy when I looked at him, but those two may just be because he has prominent Scorpio and Aries placements. But I’m going to calculate this for noon per what’s standard, and change this if his birth time is ever confirmed. So for the sake of this, I’m calculating this as if he’s a Capricorn rising. The Senate has confirmed three top defense leaders. Last night it confirmed Air Force General Charles Q. Brown Jr. to replace Army General Mark A. Milley as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff when he retires at the end of the month. Today, it confirmed General Randy A. George as Army chief of staff and General Eric M. Smith as Marine Corps commandant.

The Senate filled the positions at the top of our military by working around the hold extremist senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) has put on more than 300 military promotions, allegedly because he objects to the government’s policy of providing leave and travel allowance for service members who have to travel to obtain abortions. 

Jennifer Rubin of the Washington Post focused on the House Republicans today, though, when she wrote: “The GOP completely gone off its rocker—incapable of passing House spending, ranting and raving at AG, cooking up ludicrous and baseless impeachment, unable to greet Zelensky with joint session. This is not normal. This is egregious. You'd think the reporting would reflect it.”

Indeed, the House Republicans remain unable even to agree to talk about funding the government, let alone actually passing the appropriations bills Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) agreed to four months ago. Today, right-wing extremists in the House blocked a procedural vote over a Pentagon funding bill, keeping what is normally an easily passed bipartisan bill from even reaching the floor for debate. McCarthy acknowledged to reporters that he is frustrated. “This is a whole new concept of individuals who just want to burn the whole place down. It doesn’t work.”

The extremists do indeed appear unconcerned about the effects of their refusal to fund the government, and since they have the five or six votes they need to sink the measures McCarthy wants to pass with only Republican votes, this handful of representatives are the ones deciding whether the government will shut down. 

McCarthy could pass clean funding bills through the House whenever he wishes, but he refuses. To do so would mean working with Democrats, and that would spark a vote to throw him out of the speakership. And so, rather than keep the members in Washington, D.C., to work on the appropriations bills over the weekend, McCarthy recognized he did not have the votes he needs and sent them home.

The extremists are bolstered by former president Donald Trump, who posted on his social media platform today that the Republicans in Congress “can and must defund all aspects of Crooked Joe Biden’s weaponized Government…. This is also the last chance to defund these political prosecutions against me and other Patriots. They failed on the debt limit, but they must not fail now. Use the power of the purse and defend the Country!” 

Experts say shutting down the government would not, in fact, end the former president’s legal troubles, but he is actually doing more than that here: he is trying to assert dominance over the country. As Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) said: “Let’s be clear about what the former president is saying here. House Republicans should shut down the government unless the prosecutions against him are shut down. He would deny paychecks to millions of working families & devastate the US economy, all in the service of himself.”

Extremist leader Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) responded to Trump’s statement with his own: “Trump Opposes the Continuing Resolution” to fund the government,” he wrote. “Hold the line.” Ron Filipkowski of MeidasTouch noted: “House Republicans refuse to fund the government to protect Donald Trump.” 

Trump’s accusation that President Biden is weaponizing the Justice Department against him and others who tried to overturn the results of the 2020 election is the opposite of what has really happened. Not only has Biden stayed scrupulously out of the Justice Department’s business—leaving in place the Trump-appointed leader of the investigation into Biden’s son Hunter, for example—but also we received more proof yesterday that it was Trump, not Biden, who weaponized the Justice Department against his enemies. 

Nora Dennehy, who abruptly resigned from former special counsel John Durham’s investigation into the origins of the FBI’s investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election, explained in her confirmation hearing to Connecticut’s state supreme court yesterday that she quit because Trump’s Department of Justice was tainted by politics. Before joining the probe, she said, “I had been taught and spent my entire career at [the] Department of Justice conducting any investigation in an objective and apolitical manner.” 

But Trump and his loyalists expected Durham’s investigation to prove that there was a “deep state” conspiracy against him, and then–attorney general William Barr seemed to be working to support that fantasy, even though there was no evidence of it (as shown by the fact the investigation ultimately fizzled). Barr was, she thought, violating DOJ guidelines in his public comments about the investigation and in his consideration of releasing an interim report before the 2020 election.

“I simply couldn’t be part of it,” Dannehy said. “So I resigned.”

The resistance of the extremists to McCarthy’s leadership is spilling over into foreign affairs as well. Today, Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky was in Washington, D.C., where he met with President Biden at the White House and with leaders at the Pentagon, and spoke to a closed-door session for the Senate. But he did not speak to the House of Representatives. While McCarthy met with him privately, the speaker maintained that “we just didn’t have time” for him to address the House. 

As part of their demands, House extremists want to cut funding for Ukraine’s defense. This would, of course, work to strengthen Russian president Vladimir Putin’s hand in his war against Ukraine. Earlier this month, former Central Intelligence Agency director John Brennan told MSNBC that it is “absolutely essential” to Putin that Trump win back the White House in 2024. “I think it is Putin's main lifeline in order to find some way to salvage what has been a debacle in Ukraine for him," Brennan said. "If Trump is able to return to the White House...Putin could have a like-minded individual that he can work with, detrimental to U.S. interests certainly and detrimental to Western interests overall.” The intelligence community assesses that Putin worked to help Trump in the 2016 and 2020 elections, and is pushing pro-Russia and anti-Ukraine propaganda now.

Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III assured Zelensky that the U.S. will continue to support Ukraine and work with allies and partners to make sure it has the weapons it needs. Lara Seligman of Politico reported today that the Pentagon will continue to fund Ukraine operations even if there is a government shutdown. Military activities deemed crucial to national security can be exempted from being shuttered during a government shutdown.

And finally, 92-year-old Rupert Murdoch announced today that he will be stepping down as chair of his media empire, including both Fox Corporation, which includes the Fox News Channel (FNC), and News Corporation, which owns the Wall Street Journal and the New York Post, among other newspapers. In 1996 the Australian-born mogul launched the Fox News Channel with media specialist Roger Ailes, who had packaged Republican presidential nominee Richard Nixon in 1968 by presenting him to audiences in highly scripted television appearances. 

The Fox News Channel initially presented news from a conservative viewpoint, but over time its opinion shows, delivered as if they were news, came to dominate the channel. Those shows presented a simple narrative in which Americans—overwhelmingly white and rural—wanted the government to leave them alone but “socialists” who wanted social welfare programs demanded their tax dollars. Angelo Carusone, president of Media Matters for America, said today that “Murdoch created a uniquely destructive force in American democracy and public life, one that ushered in an era of division where racist and post-truth politics thrive.”  Margaret Sullivan, formerly the Washington Post’s media critic, wrote in The Guardian that FNC was “a shameless propaganda outfit, reaping massive profits even as it attacked core democratic values such as tolerance, truth and fair elections.” Murdoch, she wrote, wreaked “untold havoc on American democracy.”

Murdoch sees it differently. In his resignation letter, he attacked “bureaucracies” who wanted to “silence those who would question their provenance and purpose” and “elites” who “have open contempt for those who are not members of their rarefied class.” “Most of the media is in cahoots with those elites, peddling political narratives rather than pursuing the truth,” he wrote. 

Forbes estimates that their media empire has enabled Murdoch and his family to amass a fortune of more than $17 billion.

Whats even worse is that the narrative proceeds to bring in such cheap excuses to justify her pushiness and disrespect of Asrahan's space, not just because she thinks she's dying (which wouldn't even be an excuse anyway to force a relationship with someone when you believe you'll die in 3 months)

In one chapter, Lariette gets drunk and starts to force Asrahan to touch her and she even demands a kiss that she later forces, Asrahan is clearly against this and he resists, not wanting to advantage of a drunk woman

And what do you know? When Asrahan finally calls her out on her harassment she passes out.

Heres another cheap excuse, in the same scene he asks Lariette to take it slow, she actually agrees! Wow, is that character development I smell?

The next day when Lariette gets confronted about this, this is the bullshit we get for justification

Apprently she assumed that when Asrahan asked to take it slow... she thought he was talking about cooking..

In so many scenes, Lariette gets all upset and offended when Asrahan is avoiding her,

You think that she begins to acknowledge she should back off of the assertiveness and give him some space but 1 chapter later, she and the second ML plan a scheme to make Asrahan jealous.

Also Lariette, WHAT RELATIONSHIP!? It's been like 11 chapters and all you've been doing is pressuring him to be with you when he's clearly uncomfortable. Not to mention resorting to physical violence to prove why he should let his insecurities go so he can go out with you and no, I am not lying

Not like this has an impact and is only served to appear "cute" and "bold of the FL" and Asrahan is just being "shy" (fucking ew)

I do disagree with the assertion, if only on the basis that I think 3H soft launched the "neutral queer" kind of representation, where yes the option to have same sex relationships exist, but it's buried in "maybes" and gender-ambigious language. The outliers are like, Shamir/Catherine, Annette/Mercedes (kind of), Dorothea with Petra and Edelgard, and a lot of the Faerghus dudes.

Fates, while lacking in number, and thus more susceptible to being stereotypical in how limited rep has to shoulder more shares of the burden, I feel there's more substance to it. At least in the JP version, where there's actual mention of the homosexual attraction experience for Niles and Rhajat as well.

That said, I really hate Soleil, so if I were making a similar video, mention of her would no doubt take Fates' queer sensibilities down a notch, and Three Hopes I heard did a lot more explicit gay stuff, so meh.

🤕Weak Hero Class 1 (ep3) - Love it! but can't binge because it makes me care too much. I need to decompress.

📹Crushology 101 (ep6) - It was all fun and games but now it looks like we've entered the messy bit where feelings have complicated things. I really love the ML but this is a reverse harem so they need to give the other guys a chance with the FL. I hope it doesn't drag the show down. I've been having such a good time.

🏋️‍♂️Pump Up the Healthy Love (ep1) - The humor of the first episode was not to my taste. I'm not a fan of incessant yelling and hitting from an unhinged FL. It's too much like the actress's character in Reply 1997 which I didn't like either. Korean beauty standards are crazy, with some actresses who used to be thin but healthy now looking like skeletons. However, trying to get us to believe this actress is 'fat' is ridiculous. We know what baggy clothes look like. First episodes do tend to be wild to set things up in a bad place so the characters have room to change and grow. Hopefully, things will smooth out.

🎱Amidst a Snowstorm of Love (finished) - This was a good romance but not a great one. The way the FL would coyly avoid physical affection and talks about relationship status annoyed me. I'm certain this was supposed to make her appear demure but it unfortunately made her look scared and indecisive. I couldn't even enjoy the proposal because she had denied wanting to marry so many times to the point it was not believable that she would even accept a proposal. There were many things along the way that I enjoyed but by the end I felt a little left out in the cold.

🎨Perfect Marriage Revenge (rewatch; ep6) I was in a mood this week and nothing new was sounding good so I decided to rewatch this. Still LOVE IT! The FL is the perfect mix of bold and tentative as she overhauls her doormat status to reclaim her life and help many other people along the way. The ML is both a certified simp for his woman to love and protect her all costs and an assertive man who isn't afraid to declare both what he needs as well as what he knows she needs. And it's so much fun to root against all the villains as you watch them scheme and fail.

Biography:

Edward's life started off in tragedy. At the age of five he was the sole surviror of a home invasion turned deadly, that claimed the lives of both his parents. Leaving him orphaned, with no other family to go to.

Experiencing such a traumatic event caused Eddy to become closed off. He stopped talking, would constantly have temper tantrums and major outburts, and this made things difficult when it came to finding him a suitable family.

Around the time he turned eight and after jumping from a couple of different foster homes over the last few years with none really lasting, he went to stay with the Everly's, and from the moment he stepped foot inside their home, things felt different.

The first couple of months were obviously difficult for Eddy, he had never lasted so long with one family and he could never stop himself thinking he'd be carted off to another one soon enough.

But there was a clear difference between the Everly's and every other family Eddy had been with and that was the fact they seemed to actually care for the boy.

They gave him space, didn't try to force him to speak at every oppurtunity, and Edward even got along quite well with his new siblings. Espcially Marcela. Who was closer in age with Edward, but also seemed to have a better understanding of how he was feeling, without ever having to say it.

One day on another one of his 'sick days' from school, Edward went snooping around the Everly home. Stumbling upon a large trunk filled with old vhs tapes, that obviously belonged to his parents.

That day he spent hours watching dozens of old slashers, supernatural thrillers and corny b movie monster flicks. Eddy was hooked.

At first his parents were hesistant to let the young boy watch such stuff, considering what he had been through, but when he began to mutter quotes from the movies ever so often and asking his dad questions about the stuff happening on screen, they decided to let him keep watching. Seeing that it was helping him speak and become more confident.

Edward finally began to feel settled in the Everly home. He was getting along with his parents, and both of his siblings, and even started attending school more regularly (after his dad promised to buy him more movies if he kept his grades up) and by the time he started high school, it actually became difficult to get Eddy to stop tallking.

He made friends fairly easily in high school. Falling into the popular crowd, something that was helped by the fact he was a bit of a class clown, and naturally athletic, so the jock stereotype fit quite well.

He'd attend parties, and sometimes even throw them at the Everly home when his parents went away. He hosted watch parties at his house for whatever new horror movie his dad brought home too. Though they often turned into regular old ragers, much to Eddy's annoyance.

When it came to applying for colleges Eddy struggled to get into even the local schools. So he gave up on college and got a normal job. Which turned into jobs since he could never hold one down for too long.

He tried practically everything from barista to food clerk, to even dabling in a bit of modeling, but nothing ever stuck for very long.

The problem Eddy had was he didn't think he was really good at anything. Aside from watching movies, getting drunk, having sex and talking everyone's ear off. None of which sounded like suitable career choices.

So he carried on with the odd jobs. Making just enough to rent an apartment in town with a couple of roomies, trying a few different side hustles to try and see if anything could become more than just that.

After almost exhausting the list of typical money making schemes and hobbies he could make some cash out of, a friend suggested he try podcasting, something that everyone who loved the sound of their own voice seemed to be doing, and Eddy was definitely one of those people.

He toyed with the idea of just talking about whatever came to mind, but who the hell would listen to that? then he thought about turning it into a slasher review type deal, but that didn't last long. He then looked into True Crime. A popular subject, but one that Edward found fascinating, especially since most of his favorite movies were based on real crime cases.

His dad bought him the equipment as a gift to get him started and though ratings were a little shakey at first, they soon picked up, and Eddy's little hobby became full time career after about a year thanks to his, unique style of hosting.

Now his podcast is number one in the state, and Edward has become a bit of a celebrity in the local true crime community. Just recently he's started doing more supernatural based episodes and visiting haunted places close to town, often just ending up arrested for trespassing, but he still has hopes of making something from it.

His dream is to one day take his show on the road, and mayeb travel the states exploring and investigating, but he knows how things like that are always easier said than done.

He still has nightmares about what happened to his birth parents, but to avoid talking about his feelings he doesn't tell anybody, and only his room mate knows about them.

Growing up watching old movies caused him to have a huge love for anything retro. He loves 60's, 70's and 80s music and lot of the clothes and funriture he owns is inspired or directly thrifted from those decades.

Did a speedrun through modern cdrama Everyone Loves Me because I'm a fan of both leads. A fairly well constructed romcom for a specific trope, AND also one of the most valid examples of the critique that cdrama storylines are pointlessly over-extended. This would have been a great modern drama at 12 episodes. Unfortunately, it's at least 10 episodes too long. The literal gaming (characters interacting while playing videogames) is very light - it's an initiating plot device piece but doesn't consume much actual screen time. The real genre is IT workplace romance with Hidden Identity trope.

* Capable & ambitious female lead x male lead with a competency kink whose turn-offs are white lotus & green tea girls and turn-ons are brash ladies who can cuss you out; dressing up to impress is not required

* Romantic dynamic of equal partners (2 strong personalities, not active/passive)

* "We don't know yet who is going to be the breadwinner. My goal is to be a CEO."

The actual set up & outline are:

* Online friend group who casually game together, in the last days of university. One of the guys starts catching feelings for the girl, our FL (let's call him Gamer Friend). FL isn't romantically considering Gamer Friend at all, because she has a crush on a guy from her uni.

* This crush is Gamer Friend in rl! 😮

* ML isn't open to being crushed on by anyone at rl uni, because he is already hung up on FL (as his online friend) 🙈

* FL asks for advice from her gaming buds on how to pursue her rl crush. Gamer Friend doesn't want her to succeed, because he wants to win her heart, so he keeps giving terrible advice to chase him by acting out the soft-spoken innocent maiden archetype (the opposite of FL's real boisterous & brash personality)

* This creates a comedy of errors where ML in rl is being pursued by the woman he's in love with, but he's shooting her down left & right. This culminates in her confessing and he publically rejects her in a harsh manner. When she comes crying (and vengeful) to the group, the guys all realize the identity confusion. Appropriately horrified, bros have no idea what to do. (This whole scene is gold tbh.)

* This plotline covers 7 episodes, but should have been dealt with in 4.

* Next 5 episodes (should have been 2!): Gamer Friend, toiling under karma, tries to be virtually supportive of his beloved while in person desperately making gestures to show remorse & have her less willing to obliterate his RL person. (this is all complicated by them both hired into the same company post-grad; there's a whole gaming dev & art design subplot - like in Lighter & Princess, the writers did the research so the setting is reality-based). This arc ends with identity reveal: she finally knows irl crush = Gamer Friend

* Next 6-7 episodes lead her from being (rightfully) furious and humiliated to them finally becoming friendly & supportive of each other. He waits to ask for more until he feels truly forgiven for the shakespearean hijinks that kept them apart. Includes work drama and fake-dating For Reasons. This arc, again, could have been 3-4 episodes.

* Final 5 episode arc is dating era and culmination of the gaming dev plotline. Heavy emphasis on work drama. Only 2 out of the last 5 episodes had significant romance material for the main couple, which was the major flaw in the drama. Avoided the separation cliche but also no marriage scenes at the end - we just see that they're still close, supportive partners a year later. Should have been 3 episodes ;)

The structure is right for a simple rom com set up of: one party pursues, gets rejected, then the other party pursues & corrects their mistake. The misunderstandings are logical enough; FL is assertive and we see evidence of her talent (not just told); ML likes her for herself & doesn't want a childish, obedient woman like the idol dramas represent; they are shown to make a good team & respect each other; the wronged party isn't a push over and their forgiveness has to be earned. It's clear why they like each other and that they work as a couple. (Though the emphasis is on compatibility & domesticity rather than sexual heat.)

The showrunner just needed to compress each arc and spend a lot less time on corporate minutiae. The way I engage with this type of drama is to binge, skip all 2nd couple scenes, and liberal use of fast forward ⏩⏩.
