so i also started an astarion pt b/c i have the lowest attention span and i really like act 1 (plus i was curious if it would be that different) i guess (you'd think i'd be sick of it having played it a BUNCH in early access but nah).

so far it's not wildly different from a durge/tav start though you do get some amusing unique dialogue option (mostly just staring at people's necks with the option to lunge at them if you choose enough of these options), tho i did forget that you're supposed to be pretending you're *not* a vampire and i used the vampire skill in combat and shadowheart was like "HOLD THE PHONE" which was pretty funny.

it is interesting to realize that your usual squad of disasters don't actually need a tav/durge at all, like they might actually be better off without one lol (an interesting what if? storytelling option)

also it's not very far yet but i'm getting more vibes off shadowheart than i did between ast/shadowheart previously (playing as a tav/durge) and am considering it as a ship/option this pt (they can commiserate over brooding! and other tragic backstory things...) tho i was gonna maybe romance wyll or gale this time (wyll/ast is def a thing, they had major vibes in one of my tav pts so i was like ooh maybe do this pt).

anyway i haven't seen a lot of shadowheart/astarion art on my dash is that a thing? it must be right, everything's a thing (most of my dash really likes gale so i keep trying to see what you all see but it hasn't happened yet. he's just a little too thirsty usually- which i think was partially a bug initially-but idk it's a turn off tbh)

For my Astarion playthrough in early Act 1, I 100% was a murderous dick. Honestly was planning on burning down the Grove and just giving in to all his worst impulses.

Didn't plan on romancing Karlach at all, in fact was planning on doing a full evil run and knew she'd leave if the Grove was destroyed. Lae'zel and Astarion are each others toxic enablers for most of Act 1, roleplayed that Astarion sees her as his best option to find out more information on the mindflayers/tadpoles so he flirts/sleeps with Lae'zel to gain an advantage. The sex is very transactional.

Didn't recruit Wyll even though Karlach wanted to (Astarion would have actually killed Wyll if Karlach hadn't basically told everyone to Calm The Fuck Down), because Wyll is a monster hunter and at that point Astarion hadn't revealed that he was a vampire. Waaaaaay too much of a risk for him.

Karlach honestly disapproved a lot during the beginning but then, at the goblin camp, Karlach finally told him something that REALLY got under his skin.

Karlach told Astarion, "So, did that make you feel big? Did it make you feel strong? You're pathetic..."

The voice acting was great because she sounded DISGUSTED with Astarion's sniveling little ass.

And then when Astarion kills the Gur in a fit of rage/panic (headcanon that Astarion freaks out since the Gur just says his name in front of everyone and now the jig is up), Karlach actually has a long, stern conversation with him and she actually empathizes. She tells him that they're in this "together-together" so long as he doesn't keep secrets.

And uh, he didn't see that coming. But her response actually got through to him.

So yeah, guess it was a full-on enemies to friends to lovers arc.

Sometimes my mother likes to come over, sit and crochet while I play games. She's witnessed key portions of my Astarion romance.

On my new Durge playthrough, Gale is somehow my number one fan and now she wants to know why I "look like a creepy hobo" and also thinks I'm cheating on "Vampire Legolas with Wizard Jesus".
