Because there's now no way in hell anyone would consider Yuno's """murder""" legit other than Yuno herself. (Like, girlie didn't even went through with the fucking abortion, she had a miscarriage. Even if you're anti-abortion, that's like a manslaughter at the absolute best...) This implies that, what counts as a "murder" depends purely on whether the prisoner considered what happened a "murder", not some established standard in MILGRAM. Meaning, all of the prisoners at the start, probably on some unconscious level considered what they did, "murders" no matter how much they were denying otherwise and the ones that don't anymore now, are entirely our fault.

1. Which Milgram character is your favourite, and why?

To no one’s surprise, it’s Fuuta LMAO

As for why, honestly, I just simply have a type when it comes to fav characters and I knew Fuuta was gonna be my fav as soon as I saw him. Aside from that though, I do REALLY love his character and the direction it’s going. I think his character and his crime being so specifically modern really does add an extra bit of fondness too, because the internet and the idea of cancel culture is so prevalent in our lives. It’s a really interesting topic

I especially like how his story tackles guilt and forgiveness as well. Because his inherent reaction to his guilt isn’t as palatable as Haruka, for example.

His reaction to being labelled as a murderer and realizing he did something awful is aggression. I think it’s why he’s often construed for not feeling guilt at all. It’s hard to sympathize or humanize someone who’s attitude/actions you don’t like. There’s a reason he’s so desperate for unity and belonging because his natural temperament isn’t typically acceptable within societal norms and leaves people with a bad taste in their mouths, which is why he lacks belonging. And the MILGRAM audience being a reflection of society reinforcing societal norms onto the MILGRAM characters again which throws them back into the cycles and situations that led them to their murders in the first place is so interesting!

Also his intense guilt and the idea of wanting to be “blessed” with forgiveness and another chance is a topic I really enjoy and feel for. And it’s especially interesting considering the “bless me with one more chance” line in Backdraft when thinking about why he found his salvation in Amane and her religion, because he DID finally get blessed with a second chance; a chance to be reborn. And his spiritual rebirth is especially highlighted with how seemingly different Fuuta is now. He’s much softer and kinder after finding his “salvation” and it’s so ough.

6. Which MV is your favourite and why?

Ooohhh this is hard. I haven’t thought about it. I have to say I really love After Pain and MeMe! For After Pain, it’s mainly the aesthetics. I LOVE the location and colour palette. The details of how Mu’s bullying is being portrayed as an unending cycle and the shoes and blackboard notes giving hints that Muu wasn’t a pure victim is really cool!! The detail of the MV being out of order too ooof

As for MeMe I’m not sure what it is I love about it but I really do! I love the aesthetics and location, especially paired with the song. Tbh Its been a while since I looked at the tarot cards but I think it’s really neat as well!! Also I really like Mikoto’s outfit-

7. Which prisoner do you think you would get along with the most if you met them in person, and why?

I think I’d probably get along the best with Yuno? I think we could go out and have fun dkdbdk I don’t know if we have that many common hobbies but I’d probably still get along well with her!

I also find I relate to Mikoto a lot but not in the similar hobbies way💀 so I think we’d get along but I feel like actually hanging out might be a little awkward. But it’d probably be fine after some time!

8. Which prisoner do you think you would get on with the least if you met in person, and why?

Oooof I really love everyone and I don’t think I would have any major problems with anyone or anything like that. But if I had to pick then probably Muu? I love her a lot but I don’t know if I’d have a fun time with her IRL😭

Aside from that, I think I’d get along with everyone else relatively fine aside from some awkwardness🥲

Just one? Oh this is difficult. I'm not sure if I can choose an absolute favourite canon thing but I like how she has so much jewellery. Her rings and earrings are so cool!

-Least favourite canon thing about this character?

Probably the fact that she likes to give non-answers in the QnA’s like I think it makes sense for her character and is a good writing choice. It's just also kinda annoying because I want to know more about her!

-What's something you have in common with this character? A couple things but to keep my answer brief I really relate to how kotoko feels in Harrow around justice. I’ve had a very similar feelings when I started to be become more aware of social injustice even wanted to be a lawyered to try and do something about it so even though I never went anywhere near as far as kotoko did and I’ve come to view things less as bad people use the system to do bad things to weaker people and more as our current social climate/systems create an environment that creates people that then go on to maintain the toxic cycles I still relate a lot to her feelings. 

-What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise? I get the two rapist Kotoko fanfics are low hanging fruit but I despise them with every fiber of my being just knowing what the second one is and that it exists makes me die a little inside.

What's a headcanon you have for this character?

I strongly head canon her as being on the ace spectrum :>

Why do you like or dislike this character? I love how layered Amanes symbolism is. I think her MV’s are some of the best when it comes to visuals that’ll drive you insane once you start really thinking about them. I feel like I always notice something new on a rewatch but I also think the reason I’m so attached to Amane is because she’s a character that have thought about a lot due to when I joined the fandom purge march was my first mv and I was around for pretty much all of Amane’s voting so there was a lot of Amane discussion when I first joined the fandom and my friends are all fans of her so any Milgram discussion quickly turned to her so I think she’s one of the first characters I really dug into the layers of because of that.

What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise? This is less of a problem in the fandom now but the whole “we need to punish her so she won’t hurt shidou” or “we need to punish her and then she’ll leave the cult” because one that's not how cults work if you punish her your just giving her more reason to cling onto her region and proving the cult right but it's also just a mindset around children I see often and it kinda disgusts me that they should be punished or that punishment is the only option and if they aren’t punished how will they learn things are bad.

Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?

But on a more serious note even though with the latest minigram I’ve been thinking more about Kotoko Amane and even though Fuuta’s and Amane’s relationship is certainly not going to be healthy in t3 I’m going to say them. I think their friendship is cute and I want them to be besties!

What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

I didn’t watch purge with the English sub’s on the first time so I was like oh what a cool custom design look how happy she is then as it went on-oh -OH

OH SHE’S A LITTLE FUCKED UP ACTUALLY. 

Now I think Amane is an incredibly layered character and an especially well written child character. She's great. I love her. I hope she ends up alright in the end! 

Why do you like or dislike this character? I love her design SO MUCH!  but I think what I like about her the most is her relationship with her self image. I’ve seen a few people bring this up that muu portrays herself as a bug in it’s not my fault but portrays other like Rei as a human and this really really fascinates me because it shows us that Muu on some level idealize rei and villainesses/dehumanizes herself. 

Least favorite canon thing about this character? Her Crow symbolism doesn't show up in T2 :( it wouldn’t fit but it still makes me sad.

What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like? I love how people draw her bug design! It's so cool to see how different people stylise it! Pretty everyone has a unique take on it even if it's just they simplify it down.

What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise? Something I love about milgram is how an mv will show you one side of the character and then different side in another and then when you put them together it gives up a better look of the character but people forget to do this with muu and just act like its not my fault is canon and like after pain doesn’t exist or was all a lie but no your supposed to look at them together! I think this is what leads to such simplified portrayals of muu people not taking into account her prior characterisation. This is also a problem I have with how the fandom treats harrow and deep cover.

If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

Okay a big part of me wants to say Persona because I think her character would be super interesting in that world with how she views herself and other people and her mental health but a another part knows the person writers would not treat her well and they would probably just ruin her if ann and rise are anything to go off :( I’d like to think she’d be a navigator or a wild card. 

What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?

My beef is more with the fandom in my local area than Milgramblr or the greater online fandom. Whenever I hear discussion of yuno she’s also simplified to girl boss and yes she is girl boss but also girl failure , girl hypocrite, girl self destructive coping mechanism , girl out of water , girl who needs a hug and so on I feel like people simplify her down too much because of her crime :(

7. What’s something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?

I'm not sure what the fandom does at large, but from where I'm standing, I do like that people are pointing out and noticing that a lot of Langris' ... most extreme behaviour has been elf-soul-hatred induced. Sure, there was a lot of factors in how Langris was brought up with that affected him as well, and caused him to desperately seek to be the "better", more successful brother, because that's the only way he saw any value to himself. So, he's also a victim of his upbringing; the only life he knew.

There's talk about Langris as the complex character that he is, rather than his... less than redeeming qualities, which is nice to see.

12. What’s a headcanon you have for this character?

My headcanon is that he took a while for himself after Yuno became the VC of GD, and thought about who he is, as a person. Not just as a knight, but who he is deep down. He thought about the behaviour patterns he learned while living with his parents and how it made him feel in the long run.

He thought about Finral, and how Finral has shown nothing but support for him. And he'll think about his feelings of jealousy towards Finral. A lot of very difficult things, that leave a person vulnerable. He'll think about them, and he'll think about what he wants to make of himself.

My headcanon is that he wants to be a better person than he was.

15. What’s your favorite ship for this character? (Doesn’t matter if it’s canon or not.)

I'm trying to think back to ships I've seen with Langris... and I don't think I see ships for him. As in, even Finesse is mostly shipped with Finral. At least I think so?

I run to my usual issue with BC and ships in this, the fact that I struggle to ship a lot of the characters with anyone. As in, sure there can be crackships to most, just by playing character roulette, but shipping-shipping vice, the kind that I'd be invested in, I struggle.

This is just a long way into saying that I don't have a favourite ship with him, because I can't think of a ship for him. He has things to figure out, which is why he left the GD when Yuno became the VC, or that's the vibe I got from the whole moment. And I think that's important for him right now too. He's not really looking for a relationship (which, though, tends to be the time when relationships happen).

*MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR FUTA'S SECOND TRIAL SONG BACKDRAFT - LISTEN TO THAT FIRST THEN COME BACK HERE*

Note; I ramble a lot. I thought I might upload my thinking here if that's okay.

Okay but like, genuinely. I'm re watching Backdraft and it's genuinely such a good way to reach further into Futa's character. (And I'm not even a giant Futa fan, but his songs are possibly the best with the individual prisoner songs imo)

Although my two favourite scenes that really seem to get my little brain thinking is the 'You and You throwing around rules for fun' and the last note. I was not expecting ES to pop out of nowhere, it made my jaw DROP. Although while writing this, I think I get why. We as the audience are ES, we're the one that caused him to get viciously attacked by Kotoko and become a shell of his former self. While I haven't listened to all of the voice drama yet. It's not exactly the same as the initial first VD. In fact, Futa doesn't seem to be like himself. It's more like, he's uncomfortable, scared. He doesn't even seem to address ES, it's the opposite. He's scared of ES, and in turn, of us. He won't forgive us for voting him guilty, although admittedly, he kind of is guilty but I think he's learnt his lesson, but voting him innocent might cause a whole, I dunno but it doesn't seem good. When I think about it, I just get reminded of what Jackalope said after the first trial. We are the ones that decide their fate, and well, Futa might go batshit if we vote him innocent, but may go even more batshit if we vote him guilty. This kind of feels similar to a few other characters, like if we vote Kotoko guilty after she was voted innocent. She's obviously going to lose her shit, or if we vote Aname innocent and Shidou is guilty then... yeah...

Another thing about that scene though. While I get that Futa is most likely melting into ash and holding himself together. Another thing I initially thought was about Medusa. I can't exactly explain why? Although ES being the so called Medusa, it kind of makes sense? At least in my head? Medusa can turn people into stone if they look at her in the eye, but, in this MV. ES didn't have eyes. In fact, all there was to ES was their clothing. I think this is again another nod to us as the audience. Kind of like Yunos mv in which she directly told us she didn't want to be perceived as innocent even though out of the entire cast she is the most innocent. I think she is anyway in my personal opinion. Please don't cancel me.

And the throwing around rules for fun? Again, that's another nod. I think Futa was referring to how we were the ones to let him get hurt because of Kotoko. I remember initially when I first got into the fandom, I was so confused about how Kotoko was deemed innocent and Futa was deemed guilty. Although why I do get it now. (Futa targeted someone without evidence or when they did nothing wrong and directly was the reason they committed... you know what while Kotoko just bet up really awful people to the point they died) it still left me a little confused because Kotoko, while she is a vigilante and she did do something for the right reason. The actions she took, both before and during Milgram (I joined the fandom May this year during the hiatus between season 1 and 2) but then kind of destroyed that by beating up 3 out of the 4 guilty parties. I don't know, I'm not really partial to the ones she beat up but it kind of rubbed me wrong. Maybe because she literally almost killed Mahiru? I dunno. It's weird to explain but I recall thinking that Futa and Kotoko were two sides of the same coin? Even though I'm now aware that it's Fuuta and Muu, Kotoko and Mikoto that are the two sides of the same coin. I still think that Futa and Kotoko are similar in their actions or that they have the hero complex and all. But I think while writing this, I get why I prefer Futa. He genuinely seems to get that he's done fucked up. Although he realised this after he caused someone's death while in Kotokos case, and because we voted her innocent. She's not going to get the same treatment, which I guess makes sense. Both had different targets and stuff. And if Kotoko gets voted guilty this season, its just going to cause more mayhem.

But the one thing that stuck out. God, it made my stomach crawl when I realised. While I don't tend to read much into what people were saying, I have a feeling its referring to how cancel culture works and now he's had a taste of what he's dished out. Like what my dad would say, he has a glass jaw. Especially with the succumb line, that made me feel sick because he's finally understanding and is getting it right back where it hurts.

Although; I genuinely don't know what to think. Like I jokingly mentioned in my last post. I'm just dumbstruck. I looked at the official site in which people are voting him innocent which makes some amount of sense. Its really hard to come to a conclusion because of this video, and of course. This is the first time we've seen a guilty person sing. This genuinely makes me curious about how Mahiru, Aname and Mikotos MV are going to go. And of course, there's no translation to his VD yet although knowing how quick this fandom works it's going to be up in maybe another hour.

All in all; its a hella good song, and I like it. Still very excited for The Purge March though. Sorry about my rambling, I thought it might be good to share my opinion and all, if that's okay ofc.

Keep in mind this is just a rambling of all of my thoughts. I really love this MV, but I have no concrete idea on what to think. Hence why I'm writing this and hoping I can have a discussion with others to form more ideas. Although I get its mostly about remorse and all.

It's hard to find the balance with possessive behavior and just going too far (which is why I was scared to read those marked with it before reading your stuff) so what's the thought process when writing darker fics involving those traits? Also really like how you write rituals (at the Kitsune!Komaeda and God!Xander fic) so what's the inspiration there

Hello again!!! It's so nice to see you in my inbox once more with yet another awesome set of questions!!!

I'm really happy you gave my Anankos/Trio fics a try especially the Bad Things Happen fills with possessive behaviour and actions. The balance is always a tricky thing to find but when it's hit I think it's really awesome. However, to answer your questions:

What is my thought process when writing darker fics involving those traits?

One of my least favourite character tropes (surprisingly) are yandere characters. Or, at least the "traditional" yandere most people think of. Those are the stalking ones, obsession on the sidelines, and every other trope that screams "this obsession/attraction is one-sided". (Think Yuno from Mirai Nikki.) I also don't like when a character is Completely in Denial to the situation and Full Heartedly believes the other "loves" them / their actions are "done in love".

You see, for me it's all about a balance. When I write possessive characters/traits that are dark(er) in fics I always make sure:

-Both parties are SOMEWHAT attracted to the other in the conventional "I'm attracted to someone way" (physical appearance, personality, etc.).

-The one who is being possessive can justify WHY they like the other. This logic does NOT have to be Sound to other people, as long as it's Sound to That Character. (Think how I write Byakuran in my 10051 fics. He always is able to justify what he does with "Sho-chan is mine because -insert his justification here-") They always need to TRULY BELIEVE they're in LOVE with the other.

-The one who is the focus of the obsession KNOWS that their attraction to the other is WRONG and understands all the signs to why it is wrong. BUT they are none the less attracted to the other in the same manner a moth is attracted to a flame except they know if they get too close they'll burn up.

-The one who is the focus of the obsession is trying to either: Get Away even if it's a futile endeavour (and they know it; think my recent Bad Things Fill with the Trio). OR they're trying to stop the other/ attempt to live with the situation and pretend all is fine even though they know it isn't. (Think my 10051 fics.)

-I make sure there is an element of fantasy behind the reason WHY the one character is obsessed. For my 10051 fics I write Byakuran obsessed with Shouichi BECAUSE of the Time Travel and Multi-dimension knowledge swirling in Byakuran's brain. It's the basis for his justification to WHY he believes Shouichi belongs to him. For Anankos he's obsessed with the Trio because of their connection to his human side taking them to the Fates world/ they drank his Dragon Blood.

-Finally, I make sure that if I took all those obsessive elements OUT of the fic that the pairing could work and be healthy. I haven't written a lot of it, but I have written one fic of 10051 being Actually a Functioning Couple. I also have many head canons and AUs discussed with @someobscurereference regarding a Not Crazy Anankos falling for the Trio.

The rituals in my fics (like Kitsune!Komaeda and God!Xander) Where do I get the inspiration?

(I'm going to run on the assumption you're referring to my Fake Engagement Kitsune!Komaeda fic and my Bad Things Fill ft. Xanlow.)

For rituals and other things in my fics I just take inspiration from real life rituals/ceremonies and take elements from those. What makes Actual Rituals/Ceremonies from around the world special? What do we do to signify this is event is important/sacred?

But specifically for those fics? For the Kitsune!Komaeda fic I picked a lot of imagery and ideas for (obviously) weddings. Clothing (and colour of that clothing!), banquets, meeting people that are important to one or both of the parites are all key factors for weddings. The part about whose clothing you're wearing and the meaning behind it (-cough the yukata scene-) was added in because I like bold but also subtle actions that scream "I'm courting this person".

For that Xanlow fic I tried to pick things that felt like a spiritual ceremony. Offerings, candles, incense, and flowers can be a part of spiritual ceremonies (not all of them, of course). I am also very into washing as a metaphor/symbolic gesture.

How I feel about this character: I love the boi. He’s adorable. Also, just, his smiles are so adorable? Like, I wanna wrap him in a blanket and protect him.

Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: The only ship I’ve seen for him is with Asta, and tbh I can see it and it’s cute.

My favourite non-romantic relationship for this character: Klaus is his parent now I don’t make the rules!

My unpopular opinion about this character: Idk if it’s unpopular. But like. I think they could’ve made his power development a bit slower? Like I know that you usually shoot up in the beginning but he’s so fucking powerful already and I just think it would’ve been more fun if it went a bit slower? Or if we had at least seen more of the process.

One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon: More smiiiiiiles. Okay uhhh time to try and be serious.  ....Is it bad if I say I wanted him to get his ass kicked by Rill and lose in the finals? Like, just make him have this moment where he’s like “Okay. I wish the Nanoha franchise was more popular. I can't find many posts on Tumblr that aren't just yuri fanart. No character analyses, crossovers, theories...Nothing against yuri, just that the majority is NanoFate or Vivio x Einhart stuff. Nothing about the story. Can't find anything on Caro, Erio, Chrono, Lindy, Hayate, Signum, Vita, Arf, Yuno, etc

You may have already read them since you’re sending me this message, but I did a handful of... not so much analyses but fan rants on several of the characters and plot points about 5 years ago. They might be pretty buried though.

It really is a shame though, Nanoha has such a deep and rich story with lots of wonderful messages, nuanced characters, and themes that so many people can relate to strongly. If only it could have been marketed with more dignity when it was initially licensed.

Unfortunately there’s not much to be done about that now. All we can really do is share the series with anyone we can ourselves and try to spread that love.

For my case, my love of the series hasn’t changed, it’s still one of my absolute all-time favourites and... kind of influences how I feel about all kinds of other things. The problem is that... the energy of a small number of individuals to invest into that kind of in depth analysis and content creation... takes a lot out of you. Like I said, it’s been over 5 years since I myself was in the height of my meta days, and even though I still love it, there’s other things I love that I haven’t already had the time to ponder over and explore yet.

This last thing here is... something of a personal bugbear of mine. But I’ve also found that some of the english speaking fandom for Nanoha that does exist is.... not welcoming to newcomers!! Or even really, to veterans. There’s been at least two established communities of supposed Nanoha lovers that have been incredibly hostile to my presence, and there was a clear lack of interest in making those communities any better.

Still though, there are actually crossovers and theories and other fanworks around if you go looking for them; they’re scattered far and wide, but they exist. I’ve read a number of them, and there’s a few decent ones. I don’t have anywhere to send you, but if there’s any discussion you feel like leading on one topic or another, send it to me or @ me and I’ll do my best to add my piece! :D

10. Least Favourite Royal Member?

My least favourite would have to be Augustus. Horrible King with an awful personality. Being so petty as to threaten people with execution over something so trivial. Not only that, but he has all that magic power ALONG WITH LIGHT MAGIC OF ALL THINGS and is just weak and pathetic. 

31. Would you rather Asta, Yuno, or someone else (e.g: Noelle) become the 30th Wizard King?

Out of Asta and Yuno - I would prefer Asta to be honest. While Yuno probably has the merit and strength to become one sooner - I can’t see Yuno as the sole leader of the Magic Knights. Captain, right hand man; yes. But he doesn’t exactly inspire those around him or isn’t social enough to do the job - I can’t see him giving speeches like Julius did or whatever. 

Asta on the other hand, is. Over time he will get experience and gain that “leader” part, but he does inspire those around him and makes friends easily. Maybe Yuno will change, maybe he is capable of being a good leader - but my issue is that we don’t see any of it if he is. 

I can’t really picture anyone else in the younger group as WK, Leopold has declared it - but as he is now, I don’t see it as a possibility… and I can’t recall anyone else who claimed that’s what they were aiming for or is impressive enough for it. Maybe a younger VC? But I can’t see Kirsch or Langris as WK, tbh. Maybe a new character will come along later, who knows.

48. What do you think is the series’ biggest flaw? How would you have handled it differently?

Lack of Fuegoleon? JK 

Um, I don’t really have a big flaw? I know the series has many, but nothing really stands out to the point I’d go out of my way to think of a better outcome. I would like it if we got more world building though, after this arc I would like for us to get more information about other Kingdoms, their magic and culture, etc. 

There has been scenarios I’d wish turned out differently - Nozel’s apology and reasoning for treating Noelle as he did, Fuegoleon waking up and getting Salamander like that being a couple of good examples. The latter just needing more explanation and maybe it’d be okay.
