Hux has always been good with words, even as a kid. His speech was just as often mocked by classmates as it was praised and fawned over by adults. It never escaped his father’s notice though when he spoke w/ a “strange” cadence or left awkward silences, and he ended up exaggerating his naturally poised speech just to avoid the look Brendol would get in his eyes, and the things that’d no doubt come from it.

That act just ends up gaining him a reputation for loving to hear his own voice in the end, but really he’s never much liked speaking. The act wears him out, the sound grates his ears. It’s always special to him when he’s alone with Ben and can just stop talking entirely. Ben never complains when he responds with gestures rather than words, always stops talking by the second time Hux asks. He seems to understand Hux’s need for quiet, like he seems to understand a lot of Hux’s needs in a way others don’t.
