the moments we share stay a secret from the world

___
As soon as the door closes behind Sam, he slumps against it with a groan. It’s been a long few days. He’s tired, a little bruised and broken, and all he wants is to get in bed and sleep for a week straight. He knows that’s impossible, this job being really a full-time, 24/7 thing, so he’ll take any rest he can get. If he can get to his bedroom, that is – he feels like any energy left him as soon as he stepped foot in his apartment, only now the adrenaline leaving him, worry seeping out now that he knows Joaquin is okay, and all that’s left is pure exhaustion. He could fall asleep right here, at the front door, standing up.
With a deep, heavy sigh that feels like it comes from deep in his soul, he pushes away from the door and forces his legs to take him to the bathroom. He desperately needs a hot shower first.
The walk seems to take forever, and in between the front door and the bathroom, he manages to pull out his phone and shoot a quick text that just reads ‘ur full of shit, could’ve used that serum right about now.’
He doesn’t wait for a response, he doesn’t expect one anyway. They usually text, but at this hour there’s a bigger chance the old man would call instead. He doesn’t wait for that, either. Just tosses his phone on the bed when he walks through the bedroom, then strips out of his clothes and hauls his aching body into the shower. He stands under the hot water for as long as his legs let him, letting it soothe the strained muscles, but careful of all the stitches and wounds. He’s way too used to those by now.
He doesn’t know how long it’s been when he finally leaves the bathroom, just a towel around his waist, dragging his feet on his way to the bed – only to see an unexpected visitor sitting at the end of it.
“Hey,” Sam says, barely even phased. As unexpected as it is to see Bucky here, it’s not all that surprising at this point. “So we don’t knock anymore?”
“I don’t.” Bucky shrugs, a hint of a smile on his face, as he leans back on his hands, eyes scanning Sam’s half naked body up and down, worry carefully hidden, visible only in his eyes, only to Sam. He looks comfortable as if he was at his own place. He’s not dressed in a suit anymore, now wearing his usual black jeans, and a leather jacket, unzipped to reveal a plain black t-shirt. Some things never change – and not all should, he looks damn good like this. Sam thinks he prefers this version. “And you don’t mind.”
“Hm, well, as long as it’s you and not someone who tries to kill me, break into my place all you want.” Sam waves his hand, walking over to his closet to grab some sweats to sleep in.
“You don’t have to get dressed on my account.” Bucky says, that flirtatious tone in his voice that Sam hates and loves at the same time.
“If you want a show, you gotta earn it,” he throws back with a grin over his shoulder, that might come off more as a grimace, with the way his whole body aches. He feels Bucky’s eyes on himself as he shamelessly drops the towel on the floor, grabs some sweatpants and puts them on.
“Eh, you don’t look so good tonight, I’ll pass.” Bucky teases, the usual humor covering up what he’s not saying, the worry and concern at all the cuts and injuries and bruises all over Sam’s body, the regret about not being there to help. “Seriously, Sam,” Bucky adds, a complete change in tone, “you look awful.”
“Wow, thanks.” Sam rolls his eyes, turning to face Bucky again. He can feel his eyes analyzing all his wounds and bruises. The stab wound in his chest stings, but he ignores it. “I’m fine, Buck. Nothing new, nothing I haven’t survived before. It comes with the job,” he shrugs, one of his shoulders protesting and he can’t hide a wince.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t there,” Bucky adds quietly, blue eyes finding Sam’s.
“Me too.” Sam sighs. “Could’ve really used that super strength of yours,” he adds, trying to keep it light. The truth is, he misses being a team, out there, on the battlefield. He’s never been more in tune with anyone, especially now. They know each other inside out, they can communicate without words, it’s like Bucky lives in his head – which isn’t untrue.
“You did amazing without it. You can do it without it, without me. You know that, right? You don’t need me.”
“Yeah,” he takes a step towards the bed, then another. “Yeah, I know. I’m doing my best.” He might not need Bucky, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t want him, as a partner, as a friend, in whatever way he can. But he also knows he’s capable by himself. He has to be. Steve chose him for a reason, and he needs to stop doubting that choice, doubting whether he deserves it. It’s easier said than done, but he’s trying. He did a damn good job today, though, if he says so himself.
“I’ll always have your back.” Buck promises, and Sam knows that. If he could, he’d be there, fighting by his side. He’ll be there if Sam ever needs him.
“I know.” Sam stops in front of Bucky, whose curious eyes look him up and down again.
“How’s Torres?”
“Awake. He’ll be okay. I just-”
“Feel guilty?” Bucky guesses. He really knows Sam so well. “Sam, none of what happened was your fault. Including him.”
“I know,” he repeats with a sigh, running a hand over his face. “Hard not to feel that way sometimes.”
“Yeah.” Bucky nods, understanding better than anyone. They don’t need a lot of words, not right now. They’ll talk, debrief, and discuss everything at some point. Tonight, Sam is just so damn tired.
He climbs into Bucky’s lap, straddling him – he wishes he could say he did it without wincing in pain, but alas. Bucky’s hands immediately rest gently on his hips, gripping lightly but firmly, careful not to hurt him further. Sam knows he’s dying to examine all his wounds and make sure he’s okay, but Sam’s been to the hospital, he’s fine, he doesn’t need him to fuss.
“Now, what did I do to deserve a visit from the future congressman James Buchanan Barnes? It’s a rare sight lately. And twice in two days?” He teases. Bucky rolls his eyes. They haven’t been seeing each other as often as they’d like, both busy with their new jobs, and keeping this relationship private, but they try. Sam would rather have those few moments once in a while than none at all.
“I meant it, I missed you,” Bucky shrugs, earnest and genuine as he smiles softly. “I wanted to see how you’re doing.”
“I’m fucking exhausted and beaten up, and I could sleep for a week.” Sam sighs, slumping against Bucky. Bucky’s right hand gently moves up his side, caresses his skin, mindful of his bruised and cracked ribs, until he cradles Sam’s cheek. Sam leans into the touch. “Can you stay the night?”
“Yeah, of course. I don’t have anywhere to be until morning.”
“Good.” Sam whispers, and finally presses his lips to Bucky’s, his hands finding his jacket and helping him out of it. All he wants is to fall asleep in his man’s arms right now, he wants to keep him here as long as he can, until they both need to go back to their roles and titles, and keep their personal life under wraps.
They kiss slowly, lazily, until Sam’s yawn breaks it, and Bucky chuckles, standing up with Sam still in his arms, then gently places him down on the bed – any other night, if Sam wasn’t half asleep and what feels like half-alive, it’d get him going immediately, his boyfriend’s strength always such a turn on. As it is, Sam forces his limbs to work a little bit longer to scoot up the bed and onto the pillow, then waits for Bucky to take off his jeans and join him.
He tries to wrap himself around Bucky, but he can’t breathe on his side, his ribs are not in the best state, cuts and bruises on the rest of his body are hurting. So he settles on his back, as comfortably as he can, and brings Buck as close as possible. Bucky slips his right arm under Sam’s head, the metal of the left one lightly pressing against his abdomen, as Bucky holds him.
“Can you promise me something?” Sam asks sleepily, already starting to nod off.
“What’s that?”
“Can you wake me up when you have to go, no matter what time?” He just wants to say goodbye, he doesn’t want Bucky to just disappear into the night. He could get out without waking Sam up, his stealth skills as impressive as always. But Sam wants to see him, kiss him one more time, watch him leave. Get one more second together.
“Of course, Sam. Now sleep, I’m right here.” Sam feels a soft kiss to his head.
“I love you, Buck.” Sam mutters, blinking as he tries to get one more look at his gorgeous blue eyes.
“I love you, too.” Bucky whispers with one more quick kiss to Sam’s lips.
Sam falls asleep to the sound of Bucky’s breathing, feeling his heartbeat where their chests are pressed together, familiar cool metal fingers drawing soothing patterns on his stomach. He’s out within seconds, feeling calm and safe and loved in the arms of his man, knowing that he’ll get woken up way before sunrise, and he’ll have to say goodbye to him again. That’s okay. He’ll have a busy day tomorrow, as well, back to Captain America duties, having to deal with the aftermath of… this whole mess. But for now, it’s just him and Bucky, in the quiet of the night, sleeping in one bed, like a regular couple. Maybe one day it’ll be the norm for them. If not, he’ll take what he can get.

deadass this is the only way i can imagine Bucky Barnes becoming a congressman because wtf
some nosy reporter bugging Bucky while he pumps gas or something: what are you gonna do now with your life post tfatws?
Bucky: *sarcastically and offhand* idk, havent decided, maybe politics
three days later
Bucky: Sam you dont understand the paper and the channel four guy said i was running and why would he lie?
Sam: be so for real- why would it be truthful? you're reading the local gossip column. and the channel four guy likes to promote conspiracies when he's reporting traffic slow downs.
Bucky: okay maybe you're onto something
three additional days later
sam: why is the channel four guy still going on about you becoming a congressman
bucky:
sam: why are you in a suit?
bucky:
sam: for fucks sake

when you unfold me (and tell me you love me)
(T, 1.1k)
In the quiet, subdued safe house, the heater groaning was the only sound inside. It was almost, but not quite, masking the howling of the wind outside.
Sam stared out the window, watching the whirlwind of snow as it painted everything a bleak white.
He was hyper aware of the ice pack on his left shoulder, right where Bucky had left it, trying to stay still so as not to pull on the new stitches that went from below his ribcage down to the middle of his stomach.

Thoughts on Captain America: Brave New World
It wasn't that bad. Lots of people are saying that it sucked, and yes, I was hoping they would do something more interesting with the adamantium but c'est la vie.
The villain was definitely really scary. I think the direction choice of showing us individual people that The Leader was killing is arguably one of the best choices. I found several moments where I genuinely looked at the screen and gawked.
That being said, the villain felt almost cartoonish. Like? C'mon. that phone call with Ross was just... it felt like a my little pony villain, bsfr
JOAQUINNNN MY BABY!!!! We have been LACKING for Peter Parker-coded characters, and he is definitely one of them. I love the way people are calling him baby falcon, bc yes, but also the mentor-mentee relationship between him and Sam???
On that relationship, Sam and Joaquin have the relationship of siblings with a massive age difference. Like eight years at least. Joaquin idolizes Sam and Sam is fond of him, but teases him as well. It's just so cute.
SamBucky nation is winning. Enough said. The I love you was one thing but the "He's also 102 years old" like, ok??? gatekeeping your man?? ok, I see you Sam <3
I did not empathize with Thaddeus Ross. Maybe, if they made him a shittier father, yes I would get the whole new leaf thing. But making his entire arc of bs in the last fifteen years be about Betty was just...not it. Make him have more to prove.
Also the writing of the phone call? Please. I know Marvel writers can do better than that.
this is just a problem with film-making in general, but marinate in the silence. a lot of life is silence, real-life exists in the margins of conversations. like that conversation between Bucky and sam could've definitely had that silence to really pull that impact.
the fight scenes tho??? that was so good, that was acc such good choreography, OBSESSED.
Bucky as a congressman is something that I really like, but was unexpected. I can totally imagine him trying to make the world a better place, but we're probably going to get that guilt-complex justification that marvel always pulls with Bucky.
The Isiah arc?? that line of "Don't Come Back" was SO good. Also, his face when he was shoved into the ground and his cries about his suit, was HEARTBREAKING. just absolutely gorgeous. arguably the best acting performance.
Sabra??? Kind of unnecessary??? like, the black woman (I don't remember her name, sorry) that was Sam's friend in the White House would've had a better role. It would've also been an interesting way to analyze what it meant to be a black woman in the Red Room.
also, if we WERE going to analyze sabra as a character, what does it mean to be Israeli in the red room? I am not a huge fan of boycotting someone based on their identity, because you can't really change where you come from, but we could analyze the status of the ethno-state in the larger marvel universe if we could.
I really wish they had pushed the political intrigue storyline, so much harder.
we do want bruce banner back tho. specifically the insanely lovable version of him in Avengers 1.
I wish they'd make the dialogue more natural
the avengers plot line could've been tied in better?
TLDR: It was a really good movie, with some writing issues and some brilliant performances and some beautiful relationships.

i love sambucky, but the fandom on tumblr can be kind of cliquey. there is a lot of genuinely racist bs that happens in the sambucky tag (and in the sam wilson tag), and so i don't blame people for calling it out. but i also see a lot of people catching strays and getting dogpiled who genuinely didn't post anything problematic. tbh i think a lot of people in the sambucky tag know it's an issue, but don't want to bring it up because it's a relatively small corner of the fandom, and people don't want to draw attention and get harassed themselves (and honestly i'm sending this anon because i'm including myself in that). i'm sorry it happened to you and i hope it doesn't sour you on the fandom.
Looks like I met the clique :/
Aside from that though, I agree with you. Contrary to what they called me, i'm not an idiot. I know Sam faces racism. And it's ramped up with the Thunderbolts coming out and fans ignoring Sam's role in Bucky's life (and consequently all of the black people), and wanting Walker to be the new Captain America.
It's nauseating, and it's everywhere. And I've had to disengage because the racism Sam's character faces is so bad. And I typically approach mlm and wlw ships with a black and white characters with caution, because often the black people are restricted to racist roles.
So when Bucky openly offered Sam comfort in that context, that was important to me and I wanted to expand on it. I didn't expect to see folks calling me an idiot.
I won't lie, it is a bit soured lol. I'll try my best, but i also don't want to ever accidentally engage with these fans are people in their clique again.
But I really appreciate this. I don't blame you for coming on anon. They're genuinely awful. Wishing you the best.
I needa take my ass back to the Daredevil fandom lmao

I have fully processed and mourned the post credit scene.
Now I will detach it from canon, pretend it doesn’t exist, and carry on with sambucky like I always have.
I get that some people like the angst and drama if it all given how many fics I’ve already seen about the post credit scene. But I come to sambucky for comfort, them having drama between each other does not bring me comfort and I can’t continue to let myself fester in it. It would be unhealthy.
Back to regularly scheduled program form here on out when it comes to sambucky, but I will still be making sam defense posts because that man deserves every bit of recognition and respect for standing ten toes down on this BS

Back on the 100 words 100 days bs!! Im exciteddd!!! Have some soft sambucky 🦾🦅
Day 18: Bucky Barnes/Sam Wilson
“What’s it like, flying?” Bucky asks, he’s chewing slowly on some ration jerky while they wait for extraction.
It’s a cold, hellish place they’re in, the kind that wreaks havoc on his arm. Another Hydra cell crushed beneath his fist—and Sam’s steel-toed boots. You’d think, after decades, they’d’ve given up on the mountains. Evidently not.
He’s trying to keep his head on straight, though. Hence, the questions.
Sam shrugs, he keeps glancing at the sky, like looking at it will make the S.H.I.E.L.D. copter show up faster.
“It’s a little like falling. Ground swept up beneath you and suddenly you’re in open air.”
He always looks dynamite in his suit. Like a leading man ripped straight from a comic book, muscles highlighted by the sleek fibre metal, cheekbones framed by the headpiece.
Bucky coughs.
“I know that feeling.”

40. letting go when there is an obstacle in their way and immediately grabbing each other’s hand again when they pass it + sambucky + f1 au?
40. letting go when there is an obstacle in their way and immediately grabbing each other’s hand again when they pass it
Everybody please clap; I managed to write an F1 AU fic without babies in it. (It probably won't happen again.) This one takes place immediately after the last scene of and I saved you the passenger seat.
Bucky's heart is thudding so hard behind his rib cage that he's sure Sam can feel it, too, a hummingbird flutter pressed between them. He can hear cameras flashing around them, punctuated by the rising pitch of surprised exclamations, but all Bucky can really bring himself to care about in the moment is the way that Sam's mouth moves against his. Even when they pull apart again, Bucky can't help but go in for one last peck, and then another, and then another.
"I love you," he murmurs, before he finally makes himself move away from Sam. Somewhere between the surprise visit and the kissing and the unplanned announcement of their relationship to all the press milling around the Stark garage, Bucky had managed to forget that this is technically Sam's place of work, and maybe there should be a vague semblance of professionalism in the air.
Still, Sam doesn't let him move far: catches him by the forearm and pulls him back in, slipping his hand into Bucky's. "It doesn't say a whole lot about my skills in proposing that you're already running away," he says, grinning.
Bucky snorts. "If I've learned anything from Instagram, it's that I have to go post a picture of my ring finger and just caption it with the date and nothing else. I'm losing daylight here, Sam."
Sam laughs, pulling Bucky along with him as they walk over to Rhodey and Misty, ignoring the shouted questions of the journalists at the opening of the garage. Bucky still can't believe that he's getting to hold Sam's hand in public. For eighteen months, it's been stolen kisses and private tables at extra-discreet restaurants. Almost all of their dates have been at home or during weekend trips to picturesque B&Bs in towns full of senior citizens who definitely don't know who they are.
It's been quiet and gentle and absolutely glorious in its own way, but this...this is its own kind of heady, almost as much of a rush as Sam's proposal was. Bucky's heart is still pounding, and he couldn't wipe the grin off of his face if he tried. This is the love of my life, he wants to shout at the cameras and the reporters and the whole entire world. I found him in a place I never thought I'd get to return to, and now he's the only thing I want to always come home to.
But that would probably be bad form, and it would almost certainly be too muffled for the reporters to hear from where Bucky is standing, so he keeps his mouth shut and follows Sam's lead to the team principal.
Both Rhodey and Misty have known about Sam and Bucky's relationship for over a year, and if Bucky had been thinking about anything except Sam, he might have worried about their reactions, but it turns out that he doesn't have to.
"I assume you'll be skipping the press conference then?" asks Rhodey, his bored voice belied by the laughter in his eyes.
"I mean, I wanted to make an appearance so I could talk about track hygiene during qualifying, but somehow I think I wouldn't get any questions about that if I showed," says Sam.
"I would pay good money to the journalist who managed to ask a track hygiene question that was also about you two kissing in front of all those cameras," laughs Misty. "Congratulations, by the way. I don't know how you made it this far; I've never seen a couple so bad at hiding that they're in love."
"That's Bucky's fault," says Sam. "He doesn't know how to look at me with anything but puppy eyes."
"Yeah, Sam, I'm sure it was that and not the fact that there's photo evidence of you at multiple public events looking at me like you want to eat me."
Rhodey makes a face. "Okay, remind me to put you two in emergency publicity training before I let you in front of any microphones."
"But it would be so much more interesting if you didn't," says Bucky, wrinkling his nose. Publicity training sessions might be the stupidest part of being a famous athlete, and Bucky would know, because in his twenties, Scuda must have put him through at least forty of them. "Plus, you're not my boss anymore, so I think technically you can't tell me what to do."
"That's right," says Rhodey lightly, "but I am Sam's boss, so if you want to play the odds with his career, I'm sure you could-"
"We'll do the training," blurts Bucky. Sam gives his hand a squeeze of what he assumes is gratitude. "Just tell us when and we'll be there."
Rhodey nods, satisfied. "That's what I thought."
"So can we-" Sam starts to ask, but Rhodey nods again before he's finished.
"Get changed and get out of here, before the cameras manage to get past the engineers," Rhodey says. "And if either of you gets calls from any press, you--"
"Direct them to the Stark Motors team press office," Sam and Bucky chime in unison.
"We know," says Sam, smiling at Bucky. "We're not talking to anyone; I promise. I'll workshop a post with Peter tomorrow."
"Good," says Rhodey, then waves them off. "Now go."
Sam looks like he wants to say more, but Bucky chances a glance over his shoulder at the gathering group of journalists--now twice as big as it was--and gives Sam's hand a squeeze. "C'mon, sweetheart," he says, not caring if his voice carries. "Let's get out of here while we still can."
Surprisingly, Sam follows, letting Bucky lead him out of the garage and into the humid night air. There are cameras out here, too, but either they haven't noticed Sam and Bucky yet or they're used to dealing with polite Europeans and they're not equipped to chase a New Yorker. Whatever it is, Bucky puts his game face on and pulls Sam along--they don't have time for his Southern politeness, and he will say hi to everyone he passes if left to his own devices.
Up ahead, Bucky watches a SkySports cameraperson get some kind of message that makes them look up at him and Sam with wide eyes. Bucky just keeps moving forward, eyes on the doors to the Stark pen. When the camera ends up right in the middle of their path, Bucky keeps moving determinedly towards it, his and Sam's joined hands making it seem like the operator is about to get clotheslined.
At the last possible second, he drops Sam's hand, weaving around the camera. When they've moved past it, Bucky feels Sam take his hand again and grins like a fool. He raises their joined hands to his lips and kisses Sam's knuckles.
"All that fuss," he says, leaning in so that only Sam can hear, "and we haven't even told them that we got engaged."
Sam laughs. "We already gave them a free story. Let's save a revelation for the next Grand Prix."
Bucky snorts, drawing Sam close and slinging an arm around his shoulders without letting go of Sam's hand. "It's so hot when you talk strategy to me," he says drily, as they duck into the Stark pen.
"That might have more sting to it if it wasn't literally how I wooed you," says Sam. "You're a nerd, Barnes. You love race strategy. Race strategy has literally made you horny before. There's definitely a version of this world where you marry race strategy."
"Well," says Bucky, "in this timeline, race strategy is going to have to wait, because a professional athlete just proposed to me, and I'm not going to have my looks forever. Gotta lock him down while I still can."
"You're so stupid, you know that?" asks Sam, as they head up to his driver room.
"I've heard it once or twice before," says Bucky. "But I've also heard that you love me anyway."
"Well, you are nice to look at," says Sam. He pulls the door to the driver room shut behind them, and Bucky flips on the lights.
Bucky unzips his Stark jacket. "I'm actually very smart, you know."
Sam raises his eyebrows. "Oh, yeah?"
"Uh-huh," says Bucky. "That's how I know that we're better off waiting in here for a while so the press thinks that we've already left, and then they'll leave us alone when we walk out of here."
There's a thoughtful hum from Sam. "And what are we supposed to do to pass the time in here?”
Bucky shrugs. "Make out to celebrate our engagement?"
"Oh, shit, you are smart," says Sam, with a laugh, and pulls Bucky closer so they can get started.

The Skrull Bucky theory also has the potential to fix whatever bs they pull in Doomsday.
The movie doesn’t address Bucky betraying Sam at all or only spends a short moment covering it, only to go back to the regular SamBucky dynamic - that’s the real Bucky swapping back in!
Bucky acts like we see him in the post credits scene and he and Sam hardly interact - that’s the Skrull!
Bucky dies? - that’s the Skrull (RIP)!

Enemies to lovers SamBucky where Sam has his bird speaking powers and Bucky has Alpine. They live in the same apartment complexes, neighbors so their balconies face one another.
Sam keeps yelling and telling Bucky off because Alpine keeps terrifying his birds and the birds on the streets.
Bucky doesnt believe in Sam's powers and calls BS until Sam is alerted to the fact that Bucky has an intruder in his home by the birds and Alpine was severely hurt.
Now guess who has to nurse this idiot and his stupid cat back to health after saving him?

not to defend the Russos and Markus & McFeely or anything cus we'll never know what exactly prompted them to write that bullshit ending for Steve
BUT
I do like to think that they didn't do it bc THEY were reacting badly to stucky's popularity
first. the Russos have always been aware of stucky romantic subtexts. they have been baiting fans with stucky comments since forever. they were they ones first to call stucky a love story, they were the ones used slow-mo for Steve's falling scene specifically to make it poetic and romantic, they might not want to make stucky canon but they certainly wouldn't shove steggy down the audiences' throat when it made no sense whatsoever. remember these guys made movies with 'what would honest trailer say' in mind! besides, they are businessmen in a way, when they shot community they developed Jeff/Annie subplot bc fans were demanding it, they used stucky (as well as sambucky) to bait fans bc fans WANTED it. NO ONE asked for steggy.
second. for all their faults, Markus and McFeely are not bad writers. they didn't write Bucky in the traditional love interest role by accident. they knew well what they were doing. McFeely even admitted that stucky were soulmates and had all the elements of a traditional love story. also unlike the Russos, they wrote catfa, they went into the project knowing steggy wouldn't be endgame, they paved way for stevesharon in caws, not knowing stevebucky would be such a hit. again, they never intent to make stevebucky gay, but if they wanted to make Steve straight, they would've stuck to Sharon.
what I'm trying to say is. endgame was shot back to back with Infinity War and Infinity War stevebucky, however scarce, were totally, completely and beautifully in character. then nothing made sense in endgame. it just doesn't seem plausible if it was their fault.
it's almost as if someone suddenly demanded them to make 1. Steve so straight republicans are using him as alpha male example and 2. Tony Stark the ultimate hero bc he's fucking dying so forget about cacw and aou and all the bs he's done
Kevin Feige you better sleep with one eye open

i saw that you recently reblogged a gif set of sambucky's therpy session and it irks me to my core that a good chunk of bucky stans paint sam as the villain in that scene."how dare sam be mean to bucky" or "sam needs to understand bucky's struggles" and other bs. the rapid bucky stans and anti sam haters act as if sam doesn't have his own pain and struggles. but the therpy scene also brought up another thing that the mcu fandom doesn't speak about enough. the rapid bucky stans and anti sam haters ignore the fact that steve and bucky made a choice about sam (the shield) without talking to sam about it. steve and bucky gave sam the shield and the weight that it carries without even asking sam how he felt about it. so of course sam would struggle with what to do about the shield in the falcon and the winter solider. it doesn't make him the bad guy.
Hi Anon!!!
I agree with everything you are saying. And I agree with the point about Steve giving the shield to Sam, but then not letting Sam process it and make his own decision about whether or not he wanted to take the mantle or not.
About the therapy scene, I know they don't want to hear this but the reason why a lot of Bucky's stans wanted to paint Sam as the villain in that scene is because they have a racism problem.
I love Bucky and I love Sam, but I can tell when either of them f*cks up.
Sam never was mean towards Bucky, not in episode two or in any episode in the series. The one time where Sam really f*cked up was when he went back to his hometown, all superhero-y acting like he knew better than his sister when she had been the one holding up the fort for years. But Sam never was mean towards Bucky, what he did do, was say it when he was done dealing with Bucky's bullsh*t.
Bucky was down right hostile to Sam in episode 2. Hostile. He arrived, doesn't even say hello, doesn't ask Sam how he's doing, he berates Sam for giving up the shield, and even when Sam admits that he wasn't expecting that they would give the shield to Walker, Bucky keeps bugging him about the shield. Sam even says that it broke his heart...But Bucky ignores him and just doesn't care..he kept pushing. You can tell Sam is upset Bucky, why would you keep pushing???
Because Bucky only cared about his feelings (like his stans do) and didn't consider other people.

Same in the plane back from Madripoor, Sam shares his feelings with Bucky and opens up, something that never happnes, and Bucky dismisses it again and brings up the shield again.

In episode 2 and 3, Bucky was a self centered person too wrapped up in his own problems and not caring who he was hurting in the process, but at least he's a fictional character and he eventually came around, apologized and changed his ways. His fandom didn't.
Why would you think about Bucky's feelings during the therapy scene but not consider how awful he was to Sam?
I'm not even mad at Bucky because in the end he realized he f*cked up and apologized in ep 5, but I don't want to be anywhere his stans because they are the worst, and I'm not saying this lightly.
If you watch TFATWS and look at the therapy scene and think Sam is being unfair or mean to Bucky, I need you to sit down and really think about the prejudice you may have. You'll want to deny it, get defensive, go "why does everything have to do with race?" with it, but in the end, it's the truth. If you watch the therapy scene and think Sam is the bad guy or that Sam was being "mean" to Bucky it's highly probable you may have a racism problem.
Meaning that deep down, as a general rule, you will see the White Characters in a positive light and the Black Characters is a more negative light, or it means that you see a Black character standing up for himself or setting boundaries as mean or " agressive". Why do you think Sam was so hostile towards Bucky? Just like that? Or was it because Bucky pushed every one of Sam's boundary without caring about Sam's feelings.
Racist people always think they're not racist because they would know if they were being racist. No, they wouldn't know.
Why do you think a Black character should just take it, when being constantly harrassed. I don't care that Bucky is your little teddy bear or whatever...That doesn't give him to treat people like sh*t just because he sees an inanimate object as his family.
I loved episode 2, and this might be an unpopular opinion, but I liked the therapy scene, I liked seeing both sides, I understood where both were coming from, it was a very emotional and heavy scene for Bucky, but even more for Sam, he had been trough a lot, Bucky pestering him about the shield, learning about Isaiah and what he had been through and that police scene right after, Sam went through a lot. For me the episode was done well, I didn't hate Bucky, I like complex characters, I don't think characters have to be perfect to like them, but seeing the reaction from Bucky stans made me sick and told me I should stay away from them at all costs.
The truth is, if the roles were reversed and Sam had been the White character, they would have understood right away why Sam was upset, they wouldn't have thought he was being mean, and they would have berated Bucky for being so agressive to Sam about the shield. They would have understood that Steve gave Sam the shield and that Sam had every right to do whatever he wanted with it. They wouldn't have blamed him for not wanting the shield, they wouldn't have expected him to just sit there and take it when Bucky was yelling at him.
TL:DR: I agree with you, and anybody who thought Sam was the "bad guy" in the therapy scene can block me. Thank you.

"... So far everything I've heard about the plot is making me go 🤨"
What did you hear about the plot?
OKAY so so far. the official premise released for the falcon and the winter soldier (2021) is:
After being handed the mantle of Captain America at the end of Avengers: Endgame (2019), Sam Wilson teams up with Bucky Barnes in a worldwide adventure that puts their abilities to the test as they fight the anti-patriotism group the Flag-Smashers.[2][3][4]
now the flag smashers were villains introduced in the captain america comics in the 80s AFTER jack kirby and joe simon, the original jewish creators of cap left marvel. which i mention bc the whole concept of the flag smashers is very much absolutely STUPID as fuck. and not done with any nuance or common sense.
Mark Gruenwald created Flag-Smasher as a character in the tradition of the Red Skull: a villain with a symbolic aspect that would make him a nemesis specifically for Captain America. Whereas the Red Skull symbolizes Nazism, Flag-Smasher symbolizes anti-patriotism.[1]
now this of course sounds absolutely fucking atrocious. and its what made me go oh fucking NO when i read the tfatws premise......................and i kind of prepared myself for whatever bullshit they prepared for me.
BUT then i was thinking about it yesterday and i think (hoping for this VERY badly) its gonna be a subverting expectations sort of plot BECAUSE of the whole state sanctioned captain america storyline. i totally forgot about this dude
when the first teaser for tfatws came out it was revealed that after steve B worded (became a big bitch) the government didnt respect his decision to make sam the next captain america and so instead created their own weird blonde haired blue eyed freak captain america. this guy:
Tumblr media
now HE is being backed by the state and being presented as The hero to the people and the personification of ~patriotism~ and whatever other bs BUT he was also revealed to be a VILLAIN.
so theres the villains clearly presented to us who are anti patriotism or whatever the fuck (the flag smashers). and then theres this villain who we dont initially know is a villain (freak state sanctioned captain america)
so I THINK at first its gonna be us thinking the flag smashers are the villains but then when the reveal or whatever happens about this dude sambucky are gonna realize they were being bamboozled/fighting for the wrong side and the anti patriotism people are justified bc this guy is very much bonkers. and the state sucks
also i THINK zemo is gonna be a sort of reluctant ally in some way to sambucky bc they left him at a kind of neutral place at the end of cw and i dont think theyre bringing him back to make him a villain again. also to put it simply he looks like he has money in the trailer lmfao. so i feel like sam and bucky will go to him for help about something or another. and they would only do that IF they cant do whatever they have to do with the government knowing/ backing them
anyways this my theory. it is still the mcu at the end of the day. im still gearing myself up for whatever bs theyre gonna throw my way. im just hoping its not AS pointedly bad as the premise is currently implying
in conclusion: the first rule of captain america is hating america. there is nothing appealing about the character if hes pro state. even steve was anti state until his bullshit end and they DESTROYED his character. if the sambucky show doesnt even meet that standard. well.
