3 years in and still the most angst i’ve seen in the marauders tumblr is the hc that trans barty named himself after his father , bartemius sr , just for his approval (spoiler alert!! it didn’t work)

I just feel like Barty’s mother is definitely a ‘boy-mom.’

(I hc her name as Maria because Maria Crouch? It just fits and I feel like she looks like a Maria even though I don’t even know what she looks like 💀)

Because there’s no doubt that Maria Crouch loves her son. Just in the obsessive, in-no-way-healthy way like, ‘My husband barely cares for me, and you’re his son, so you’re his substitute.’

She doesn’t stop Crouch Sr. When he hits Barty, or curses him with curses she’s heard are awful, because she’s so convinced that it’s for Barty’s own good. ‘He’s not obedient, dear,’ Bartemius would tell her, and she’d believe him- she’d been raised that way, to be a perfect little pureblood wife. She’s so deep in this that she has absolutely no clue that it’s wrong, and Barty, for the first eleven years of his life, doesn’t doubt it either.

His mother never hits him, so he loves her.

He just decides to cut out the part where she doesn’t stop his father, because ‘she must be too busy,’ or ‘she must not hear me screaming.’

I feel like Mrs. Crouch’s character is barely ever explored- she’s not like Walburga, but she’s surely far from Euphemia.

I feel like she’s the kind of woman who thinks she’s doing good because what she’s doing is the only thing she’s ever done, or ever seen done. So she loves her son, but that ‘love’ isn’t really ‘love,’ it’s just what she’s been told it is.

Nazanin Boniadi as Khepriya “Priya” Crouch (née Shafiq), the wife of Bartemius Crouch Senior and the mother of Bartemius “Barty” Crouch Junior. She was born into the wealthy and prominent Shafiq family, whose bloodline was inducted into the inner circle of the Sacred Twenty-Eight within the mid 1900s as a result of their marital ties to both the Lestrange and Crouch families. Khepriya was the daughter and only child of Aykut Shafiq’s favorite cousin, Khorshīd Shafiq. As a young witch, Khepriya was praised for her sharp mind, often seeking her own independence whilst using knowledge as a leg up in a society run by men.

Priya, as her father’s only child, had much to prove when it came to her value, especially when it was made clear by Khorshīd that his daughter would be the named heiress to his fortune. By the age of seventeen, just shortly after graduating Hogwarts, Khepriya had found herself working as an intern at the Ministry with hopes of becoming an Auror. A fellow colleague of Priya at the time was Alastor Moody, a boy of nineteen, who she had become quite good friends with.

The first few months of her internship were spent under the guidance of Moody as he had been assigned to show Khepriya the ropes. Another one of Priya’s associates at the time was Barty Crouch Senior, a young wizard from a family that basically had rooted themselves in the Ministry for generations. Both Crouch and Shafiq quickly became lovers, but their relationship would eventually become problematic when Priya found out she was pregnant with Barty’s child at only seventeen-years-old.

Barty Senior was quick to insist that he and Priya marry, as he was not willing to accept the thought of his first child being a bastard. The two married by the time Khepriya was a month pregnant, although her parents were somewhat disagreeable to the match. As a result, Priya was forced to choose between her newfound family and the relationship she had with her parents, but had unflinchingly chosen her husband and son.

Within the year 1966, at the age of 24, Shafiq obtained a Ministry job as an Auror, becoming most well-known for her concealment charms and deceptive capabilities. Khepriya was also a skilled potioneer, having always kept a flask of Polyjuice potion with her when it came to missions in which she had to mask her identity. Despite her value to the Ministry, Priya prioritized her son over her job, unlike her husband who was practically married to his work by the time Barty Junior was four-years-old, at which Crouch had been promoted to being Head of the Department of Law Enforcement.

Khepriya adored her son, loving him fiercely and wanting nothing more than to protect him. When Barty Junior was sentenced to life imprisonment as a result of his association with Voldemort and the crimes he committed against the Longbottoms, Khepriya came to her son’s defense and took his place in Azkaban while pretending to be him with the help of a Polyjuice potion.

in my head barty only got all of his O.W.L.s bc his dad was all like "our son isnt smart!" after he was sorted into slytherin instead of ravenclaw, so obviously barty had to put in a shit ton of effort into his grades,

I have been gatekeeping this headcanon for way to long

So! In canon (as much as we care for that) Barty Crouch Jr was blond with freckles, yet almost every fanart/ fancast of him has black / dyed hair.

When I think about him I also think of him like that.

My headcanon is Barty was born blond, but he got the chance he started dying his hair to look nothing like his father.

Barty Crouch Sr. Had blond hair before the grey. Barty jr wanted to look nothing like him.

So he started with black, a dramatic change, yet still uniform and neat. His new friends (evan and regulus) helping him. After the black there was some green and then quickly a range of different colors. braking out a bit of the pressured organization. he started to experiment more with the colors, to show individuality and difference from his father. Colored hair was disorganized, it would piss his dad off.

he always went back to black though. It fits him.

he kept the freckles and didn’t try to cover them up as much because they were just like his mother’s. Little dots around his nose in the summer that were like hers even if she wasn’t there.

So, this is my offering as a solution for the hair colors, what do we think?

also barty or at least in the little me's mind who watched the Harry Potter movies and read some of the books, he's painted as a character you wouldn't want to hug

but then I just did the math (sources of the dates from the wiki)

i started doing math because the wiki says "The 1982 Azkaban escape occurred [...]. At the trial, Bartemius Crouch Snr, Barty's father, was one of the judges. Barty begged his father to set him free, but Crouch Snr felt betrayed by his son and thought he deserved to be punished and imprisoned. He gave his son a life term in Azkaban."

Barty’s full name being Bartemius is actually the funniest thing that’s ever happened and it only gets funnier when it’s followed up by Junior because wtf do you mean they let this happen TWICE
