Snow Daze

@thebackofmymind4, I finally started writing this thing. Here's a tidbit.

For once, the weather was cooperating.

Time stared down the hill in front of him, mentally mapping turns and bumps on the unfamiliar slope. It’d been a while, nearly four years, since the Chain had managed a winter vacation, and the opening of a new resort only a few hours away had made skiing the obvious choice. Not that he minded. 

He was pulled from his thoughts as Twilight dropped down from the ski lift behind him. “What do you think, pup?”

“Eh. It’s a red slope,” Twilight replied, sliding to a stop next to him, the snowboard beneath his feet kicking up a small plume of powdery snow. “Tough run, but nothing we can’t handle. Wild and Legend decided to head for the double diamond.” “I expected as much. And the others?”

“Wars’s right behind me.” Because of course he was, Time thought with a snort of laughter. “Sky’s at the black run. The others decided to stick to the kiddie slope- I think Four’s teaching Wind to snowboard.”

“Good.” Time turned as the creak of the ski lift and a soft thump announced Warriors’ arrival. “Hey, Captain. Surprised you’re not up at the diamond with Sky.”

Warriors adjusted his ski goggles against the sun-drenched snow and huffed a laugh. “Not today. Sky had his ‘I am speed’ face on, and I didn’t feel like dealing with that.”

Time chuckled and bent his knees, leaning into the slope. “Fair. Race you.”

“Are you sure you’re up for that, old m- Hey!” Warriors glared as Time took off down the slope. It only took a few seconds for him to follow, yelling something incomprehensible.

Twilight rolled his eyes. Every single time, Captain. Every. Single. Time.

A “minor” lab accident caused Jack and Maddie to be knocked backwards through the portal into the Ghost Zone.

It didn’t take too long for Danny to notice and go in after them in the Specter Speeder, but time in the Zone can be wonky. He has no idea how long it’s been from their perspective, nor how much chaos they could have caused with that time.

So he went in fully expecting to quite possibly emerge in a giant clusterfuck of a battlefield.

Except, it turns out their chaos went in a different direction.

After being forced to interact with ghosts in new contexts, they chilled out about the ghost hunting thing. Instead, they settled into performing more anthropological and ecological studies of the ghosts.

But they’re still them, so they’re the ontological opposite of “subtle” or “low-key”.

They may not be chasing ghosts around guns blazing, but they are chasing them around pestering them with questions. Or stalking them around taking notes on behavior. Or just generally causing unmatched chaos in other ways.

Apparently Maddie ended up leading a revolution in another haunt that was ruled similarly to Aragorn’s, almost becoming a cult leader in the process. Jack broke into Pariah’s Keep and nearly woke up the sealed king to “ask for directions” (or possibly did wake him up; Danny’s heard conflicting rumors. He doesn’t think that that could have happened without anyone noticing, but with his parents he’s never sure).

Danny thinks he heard some Observants mutterings about an “interdimensional incident” too, but he isn’t touching that with a ten foot pole.

Someone smarter than me should write a frum!Sherlock Holmes story.

I'd love to read about Srulik Holman, who uses his top-notch analytical skills (born out of learning gemara; he's completed shas 3 times already, naturally) to solve crimes and mysteries as a consulting detective. And his roommate Jon Weinstein, a ba'al teshuva who became frum after sustaining an injury in the military (who knows so little compared to Srulik but Srulik is working on his middos and trying to be patient).

Best part is, it doesn't even need to be fanfiction because Sherlock Holmes is in the public domain.

the epic saga continues. Dean and Cas somehow managed to actually make the cookies, but never got around to decorating them for...important reasons and as usual, we shall now all bow our heads in prayer for Samuel Winchester and this miserable existence he calls life

The Infinite Realms and the Faerie Lands are closely interlinked. Not quite identical, but overlapping and intermingling with each other far more than they do with the mundane world. The haunts of ghosts and the distant lands of Fantasy are all but indistinguishable to most outsiders.

The denizens, too, sometimes bear many similarities. It can be difficult to tell at a glance which category an entity falls under—especially if they’re a more liminal case.

So when Damian saw one such entity wearing the guise of his missing twin, he came to a reasonable but incorrect conclusion. One that made him very, very angry at the thing standing before him.

He assumed that he was seeing a Faerie that had stolen Danyal’s face and name.

Batman & Spiderman crossover, with the batfam having a bit of spider bite issues. Honestly is it too much to not have a local creature mutated in Gotham? Especially a giant ass spider-thing?? Why does it seem to get bigger each time they see it??? Aka, the batclan are also a spiderclan with various levels of spider-abilities.

Ideas for names/strongest spider ability: Batman = Spiderbat(?) Mr Anxiety deserves a very powerful spider-sense

Nightwing = Nightslinger(?) He deserves organic webbing that he can use to go places

Redhood = Orbhood(?) Let's be honest, give him the fangs & stingers that some variations had

Oracle = Seer(?) She deserves to have the enhanced senses

Black Bat = Dark Spider(?) Give her the wall-crawling abilities for peak shadow creachur vibes

Red Robin = Red Weaver(?) Let him have the hibernative super-healing

The traditional vaquero lifestyle has roots in Paldea hundreds of years ago with the rise of the hacienda system, dating back somewhere between the fall of the Paldean Empire around 1000 years ago and the conquest and unification of modern Paldea roughly 800 years ago. The sudden acquisition of land during Reconquista allowed kings to reward their nobles and knights for their military service by granting them extensive holdings of land. Paldean haciendas produced wine, grain, oils, and— the most relevant to our current topic— livestock.

The newly-conquered southwestern lands possessed a dry climate with sparse grass, and thus large herds of cattle required vast stretches of land for sufficient foraging. The need to cover such large distances gave rise to the development of the Cyclizar-mounted vaquero— ranch hands who would herd and manage the livestock. This style of cattle ranching spread throughout much of Paldea.

During the Paldean colonization of the Americas, settlers brought their cattle-raising traditions as well as both Cyclizar and domesticated cattle Pokemon to what today is [Mexico], parts of Unova, and much of Central America. Their traditions were transformed by the geographic, environmental and cultural circumstances of the land, evolving into the modern [Mexican] vaqueros and caballeros, [Argentinian] gauchos, [Venezuelan] llaneros, so on and so forth! With many of these groups, Cyclizar gradually fell out of fashion in exchange for native Pokemon of the area (Zebstrika, Rapidash, Mudsdale, etc.) which were easier to obtain. The different mount preferences gave rise to distinctions in cowboy traditions. I'd be happy to talk more about different types of cowboys and mounts because it’s really interesting but I'm getting a bit off topic!

The vaquero heritage had an influence on development of the modern cowboy traditions in Unova, Orre, and the surrounding regions. Orrean ranching has a cabellero heritage that originates from the Hispanic and indigenous groups from the area. The South Unovan ([Texan]) vaquero tradition melded Tejano techniques with ranching styles of surrounding regions, while the "buckaroo" or West Unovan ([Californian]) tradition resembled Northern [Mexico] and vaquero traditions.

Nowadays, the South Unovan and West Unovan cowboy traditions tend to be the most prominent in modern media. But lesser-known yet equally distinct cowboy traditions such as the Alolan paniolos are still holding strong!
