I know I don't speak for everyone, obviously, but I really don't think that enjoying a live action 'remake' means we prefer the live action form to the original animated form?

Now don't hear what I didn't say. There are terrible... imma call them Reformattings instead of Remakes. Terrible reformattings out there. Lilo and Stitch? Awful. Lady and the Tramp? Awful. But there have been good ones, too. HTTYD. Beauty and the Beast. Maleficent.

And YES, Maleficent counts BECAUSE.

Yall don't understand how fairytales work. The animated versions of the things you love so much? Probably already a story that's been told before. Even HTTYD was originally a book series for kids. And you know what? I remember how absolutely feral people who loved the books were when the animated movie came out. A lot of you sound a lot like them.

Here's why that's BAD.

Yes. Making shitty media just for money is bad. Completely changing key details of a story will fundamentally alter its quality. (See Lilo and Stitch). Imma keep using Lilo and Stitch as an example because it went on to subliminally enforce imperialism and specifically clothes harmful colonialist ideas that USAmericans have been both perpetuating and trying to get away from for the last 250 years.

But. BUT.

Stop being assholes. Just stop it. You don't have to like it. Stop making other people feel like shit just because they do. They are allowed to like a bad movie. Should they maybe be conscientious of what the money they spend supports? Absolutely. As adults we should be critical, to some degree, when we have the energy and space to do so, of the media we consume, too. That's a no brainer.

But no one is remaking the movies you're so staunchly defending. Remake implies erasing the original content. It implies that the fundamental story is being irreversibly changed. Lilo and Stitch and Eragon are great examples of this.

What's happening is reformatting in the case of movies like the live actions The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, the most recent Narnia movies, and HTTYD. The story isn't changing, but the form in which you're consuming it IS.

There have been other live action movies to come out that have been retellings. Beauty and the Beast and Maleficent and The Little Mermaid and Snow White are perfect examples. They are stories that have changed with every telling since they were first told. The details that change have changed because some little kid thought their version sounded cooler, so that's what they told their kids.

HTTYD from books to animated movie was a retelling. The story changed but fundamental details remained the same. HTTYD from animated to live action was a reformatting because most everything stayed the same.

Get your language right. Get off your high horse. Admit that you specifically have an issue with something instead of saying 'If you like this then you're BAD'. Let other adults apply their own critical thinking, decide what they want to spend money on and support, and instead of being assholes actually spread awareness about the people working in animation losing their jobs because of the increased popularity of live action reformatting, about the dangers of imperialist views, about how to vote to make the changes you want to see instead of being bitter and crabby.

Get your head out of your halo and stop treating people like the people YOU claim to despise.

Ok another possibly controversial take, if you are going to a holy place, you should dress appropriately. Like yes, you can dress alternative (I'm personally alt) however I wouldn't go into a cathedral/church/holy place wearing upside down crosses, rosaries (unless for prayer), overly revealing clothing, things depicting satan etc. this one is especially for a lot of (mostly younger) alternative people, going to places like graveyards or cathedrals is fine, but be respectful. Yes the architecture is nice, yes it might look "aesthetic" but it's still a holy place of worship and you should treat it as such. I'm saying this as a Satanist but who has (some) religious trauma, and comes from a very religious family, just because something doesn't align with your belief system doesn't mean you shouldn't be respectful.

I will testify that even if I strongly dislike, utterly hate, and cannot stand a character, I will never go on someones post talking about liking that character and say so. Basic decency and all that

The only slight hiccup in this plan is that if your husband doesn’t do the tasks, the system falls apart.

It’s so frustrating to me that we’re still talking about this. Why are we still coddling men, and patting them on the heads and saying “aww, pwecious thing. he simply doesn’t know how to do it”? It’s so condescending to men. It robs them of their agency and their investment in the household, and it takes women to the absolute breaking point. 

I do think a small amount of the issue can be cut out by doing less as a family and understanding that in some seasons, you can’t afford to do 100% of the things you want to do, and you’ll need to simplify life. Who says that during the busiest and most fraught season of your life, you get to go to 5 workout classes a week and your husband gets to go out with his buddies for 12 hours every Saturday? You’re not entitled to any of that. Take on exactly as much as you, as a family, can administratively and practically handle. And no more.

But Rodsky is right about boundaries—until consequences exist for utter feigned helplessness, this will continue. And I don’t think it’s men 100% of the time, but whoever the lazy party is, why would they buck up when so far they’ve been enjoying all the comforts of this life while putting nothing in? Sounds like they’re being rewarded for trodding upon the goodwill of their spouses and children, who they’re purported to “love.” Unfortunately, those boundaries often fall on moms to enforce, just like everything else.

Feminism is the radical notion that women are people.

Feminism does not deny the personhood of men, it merely asserts that women have equal brain capacity and spiritual resonance, equal awareness and validity, to non-women.

Feminists are not exclusionary. (TERFs are exclusionary. FUCK TERFs.)

Historically, some of the people claiming the mantle of Feminism have had issues with cross-sectionality. Sometimes there have been misunderstandings and disrespect due to differences of race, creed, socio-economic class, skin color, gender identity, or sexual orientation.

People throwing up barriers because of these cultural differences do real and serious harm to the movement. The notion that women are people stems from the deeper notion that every person has inherent worth and dignity, that all people deserve a seat at the table, that all people have the right to self-determination and the basic respect that is, that should be, owed to all living beings. Feminism, done right, should ally itself with Black Lives Matter, with the LGBTQIA+ community, with indigenous peoples and differently abled individuals-- with anyone who is othered because of differences over which they have no control.

The people telling you that "feminists hate men" and "feminists are too militant" and "feminists are too radical" are reactionary republicans and torries, people who stand to benefit from perpetuating the patriarchy. Or they are people who wish to twist the movement to their own selfish, bigoted aims (like TERFs). Or who wish to separate people of good will who might otherwise be natural allies against such blatant lies and discrimination.

Don't buy what the reactionaries are selling.

"what if a dangerous man pretends to be trans to-" what if we actually dealt with the underlying causes of dangerous men. what if predators faced real consequences more often. what if you stopped using trans women as a proxy for your grievances with liberal feminism's individualist denial of the need to fight systemic issues.

what if you stopped assigning blame for patriarchy's evils to one of its more vulnerable victim groups.
