so high rn so sorry if this doesn’t make any sense i’m just so emotional about josh and annaleigh and this production so i’m gonna ramble a bit about what i love about it and them. ok. enjoy.

the thing about sweeney todd is that it’s mean. it’s a mean show. it ends on the cruel irony of 2 officers bursting in on toby slitting sweeney’s throat, surrounded by 2 other bodies and one in the oven; on johanna watching her father die holding her mother and not even knowing it. everyone is an abuser or abused, and there is no hope or redemption to be found. and it fucking rules! it just rules. it’s so fun to indulge in our basest pleasures for nearly 3 hours, delicately served to us by one of the greatest composers who’s ever lived.

and every major production takes the bile and cruelty inherent to the material and runs away with it. like- just look at this swedish production from 2006, directed by vernon mound. or the last time it was on broadway, directed by john doyle:

productions tend go smaller and nastier, more intimate, in keeping with the spirit of how sondheim originally conceived the piece. (side note: i LOVE when they do that. my ideal sweeney has buckets of blood and visera right in your face)

the original production of sweeney was MASSIVE, but that came from hal prince. hal couldn’t really get an emotional foothold on the material until he found within sweeney an extended metaphor for capitalism and the industrial revolution; people literally eating people and the machine of capitalism grinding everyone up. revivals also tend to seize on the brechtian class elements, like this absolutely gorgeous korean production from 2019 directed by eric schaeffer:

sondheim, meanwhile, always objected to readings of sweeney as brechtian- it was all a farce to him, just a good, nasty time at the theatre. he approached it as a horror fan who wanted to write some fucked up stuff, which is maybe now some of the best art is created. but hal made it into epic theatre.

(if u don’t know what epic theatre is or what brechtian means google will explain it better to u than my ridiculously stoned ass can rn but im just focusing on one aspect of it rn: the distancing effect. basically, emotionally distancing the audience from the characters and the material so that everyone is engaging with the work on an intellectual level as opposed to an emotional one)

obc sweeney is an alienating show. it’s so fun and brutal and deeply felt, but these characters are grotesque. they’re cartoonish in their cruelty. just look at their makeup! john doyle also embraces the distancing effect; his revival is actor-muso, so we’re pretty aware at all times we’re watching a show. it’s all so cold, and the only warmth to be found is in the humor. and it rules. it’s nasty. i love it. this is the show i fell in love with.

all these things have become inherent to sweeney over time, all teased out of the greatest broadway show to ever exist; visceral horror, cruelty, coldness, and class commentary.

but this revival is just.. it’s warm! it’s lush! it’s romantic! and i don’t mean that in the sense of lovett and sweeney (tho this is the warmest they’ve ever been towards each other in any major production i’ve seen). i mean that it gestures at and plays with romanticism.

my biggest critique of this production is, in doing away with the brechtian elements (sondheim just cheered), it also does away with overt class commentary. it’s all still there in the text- turpin is a corrupt judge, beadle is effectively a sheriff, sweeney and lovett are working class, the beggar woman is homeless- but as a director tommy kail seems… uninterested in any biting political commentary, to put it generously lmfao. and i hate so much how little of it there is to be found in this revival, bc you can still Do It without invoking brecht. but i’ve long made my peace with that. i wanna talk about what i love.

and what i really love and what kept me returning to it (beyond the fact that it’s sondheim, and it’s sweeney, and josh groban is so stupid fucking hot) is how human everyone is. the entire production, from the ground up, is built around taking these characters and their pain seriously.

the ensemble all have incredibly period accurate costumes, unique to each character they’ve crafted (fun fact even the swings have their own unique costume that’s only seen when they perform). gone is toby as a mentally disabled man child with an oedipal fixation on lovett. in gaten’s hands he’s a young teenager, aging out of being a cute urchin and just looking for a mother. in daniel’s hands he’s beaten down young man with a limp and a genuine love for lovett.

ruthie’s beggar woman has developed DID after a brutal rape and the trauma of institutionalization and homelessness. she’s not played for laughs, even if sometimes the audience chuckles, and she makes u feel guilty if you ever did laugh at her situation. daniel yearwood leans so far into anthony as a sweet guy completely unaware of the story he’s actually in to the point of comedy. maria is just a revelation as johanna, all nerve and tension and bloody nails from years of self-harm. it’s easy to lean into johanna as a princess track, but ~crazy~. and maria plays jo as mentally ill and traumatized from years of incesteous abuse, but it’s not a pastiche or a praody of it. jo feels human in a way i’ve never seen her depicted before. i love it. maria bilbao u have my heart forever for this.

and then josh and annaleigh…. ugh!!! annaleigh really captures the avarice at the heart of lovett, but still brings in enough genuine moments of humanity and compassion that you find yourself (like sweeney and toby) endeared to her. lovett is always cruel and can only love through manipulation, but annaleigh’s lovett is a woman who makes small concessions. bit by bit, piece by piece, she erodes whatever goodness she had inside her until nothing but her desire for sweeney is left. she’s a woman who’s used seduction to get her way, and it’s easy to envision that when lucy returned from turpin’s, she shamed her for “giving it away” without getting benjamin back. she’s a monster! and yet, when she dreams of a better life, you feel it. when she holds toby in her arms and cried at her perfect little life unraveling, you feel it. annaleigh makes you laugh so hard she gets under your skin and stays there, exactly how lovett seduces sweeney in ALP. and there it is- identification! the complete opposite of alienation. we’re in it with them.

and then there’s josh and his sweeney… i really feel like his sweeney is undervalued. annaleigh steals the show. she won the drama desk for a reason. it’s a legendary performance. but josh…. man. i just. i keep returning to josh’s open wound of a sweeney over and over again. i think he’s probably had this take bouncing around in his head for years. they smartly leaned away from sweeney as this embodiment of rage and physical menace, which surprised a lot of people. but instead leaned into sweeney’s grief in a way i haven’t seen any major production do. josh’s sweeney feels like a man who was put on this earth to be a father and a husband. there’s a buried sweetness to him and you can still see benjamin barker in him until the very end. i keep calling him “kendall roy sweeney” bc it’s the closest way i can covey to other ppl what josh is doing here. he’s all big sad eyes and suicidal ideation, tragedy and twitchy hands. he’s so deeply pathetic he just endears himself to you. i want sweeney to succeed more than ever before. even though he spends all of act 2 killing people and being a shit father and thus killing benjamin barker, i still find myself wanting him and lovett to get away with it. and when the reveal comes, and even worse the betrayal hits- that this woman who he let into his life and body and who, in some odd way, became a friend, lied to him this entire time- it hits like never before for me.

i just love it all so much. i’m so happy it exists, so happy this revival does something so new! sondheim has said sweeney todd is a show about obsession, and it is. this revival supposes: what is the difference between love and obsession? what if the two look the same?

i think often of this quote from luca guadagnino’s suspiria (a masterpiece btw): “Love and manipulation, they share houses very often. They are frequent bedfellows.”

to me, that’s this revival in a nutshell- the thin line between love and obsession, and all the blood spilled in between.

i hate tycoons so much now nobody does it for the love of the game anymore its all "buy my super insane mega billion upgrader (permanent!!!!) for 400 robux that we spawn under you after like every purchase" like they think im ever playing their game again in order to use the permanent part. i hate all the shit they put on the sides of your screen too like the uncloseable robux shops that are only there so that kids playing on mobile accidentally buy them when they try to move or jump. it just makes me sad

state of the game is basically the worst its ever been, genuinely think gamepasses were a mistake. it's just depressing how it seems like every game's either pushing really hard to squeeze as much money as they can from you, whether that's in the form of the super aggressive pushing like you described, or by adding microtransactions to games that, genuinely do not need them.

you can buy a quarter million jailbreak dollars for like, all your obc robux for a month. (or about 24 dollars). worst trade ive ever seen. it's not like jailbreak money's hard to come by. of course, most people wouldn't buy it, but you don't really need 'most people' to, in a system like this. just get one guy whaling for jailbreak and you're getting mad money for like 0 effort. it's really kind of upsetting.

i don't think a game should ask you for money inside the game, in general. let me unlock the stuff you're hiding behind [200 robux] by just grinding out for like hours, if you're gonna have stuff locked. do some more mewtwo shit to me, save me the money.

Hi, I mostly follow you for your tbhk content, but was meaning to ask what is your favourite version/which version do you recommend of les miserables(the musical)? I'm quite a new fan of musicals and I've always wanted to see it, but didn't know which slime tutorial of them. Ofc there are differences, but idk how important and I guess I trust your tastes if you'd like to share your favourite version (if you even have one). Ty in advance

OMG my first Les Mis ask ahhhhh yay!!!!

Unfortunately I’ve never watched any slime tutorials for Les Mis so my advice here probably won’t be that helpful. I saw it live when they were touring in 2019 and the cast was incredible but I haven’t been able to find a bootleg for that version. I have listened to multiple versions of the soundtrack and the OBC remains my favorite bcuz I’m basic. There was a really cool French version of it tho, you should be able to find it on YouTube just by searching up “Les Mis in French.” And I know there’s a slime tutorial with Ramin Karimloo, he’s one of my favorite Broadway actors so I’m sure that will be good. I think it’s the version where he plays Valjean, he was Enjolras at one point too

The 10th Anniversary Concert is famous in the fandom so I have to recommend that as well, it’s got an excellent cast and some of my favorite performances although I’ve never watched it in full (she said about the musical that changed her life). I hope this was of some help to you, sorry I couldn’t give more specific suggestions!!

obc chess game breakdown (?)

well, welcome to the breakdown of the falsettos obc chess game that absolutely no one asked for but i think i'm onto something !!

ALSO, i know nothing about chess so if nothing makes sense that's why :-)

SO !! a little fact that is far from my interpretation is that chess is used for many things in the musical like a metaphor for love, another metaphor but for Marvin and Whizzer's relationship, normal chess, and so on but for now i'll be focusing mostly on it being normal chess and a bit on Marvin and Whizzer's relationship so bare with me because this is going to be chaotic

even though it's technically the same musical, the obc and the 2016 revival are two completely different things, and a very good way to compare them is the chess game

(and in case anyone actually reads this, none of this means that one version is better than the other, i just want to point out the differences because i have free will and too much free time, i adore both versions, this is just me infodumping)

first, the revival

for the 2016 version, (specifically for the chess game) they lean a bit more on the looks of it, sort of trying to match the same minimalistic vibe that the cube gives (shoutout to the Rockwell Group because i adore their stage design but moving on...)

for instance, they simplify the actual game to more of a choreography:

Whizzer begins with the white, holding the king but not actually moving anything, and after Marvin insists he moves the pawn in h2 to h4

Marvin mirrors his move with his own pawn, moving h7 to h5

after that, Whizzer takes the queen and leaves it in the middle of the board, not really playing anymore, and after that they just move everything around, Whizzer takes Marvin's king and the "game" is over

OH but for the obc... that's when stuff gets a bit more interesting, because they're actually playing

this time Marvin begins with the white pieces and by the time they begin to sing he already moved the pawn in e2 to e4

Whizzer responds by tidying his side of the board for a little while, before being pressured by Marvin to move, so he moves the horse from b8 to c6

Whizzer doesn't seem to pleased with his move, so they re-start

he flips the board so now he has the white pieces and it's his turn to begin

Marvin tells him exactly what to do, and he moves the same pawn Marvin moved as HIS first move

Marvin responds by moving the pawn directly in front of that one (e7 to e5)

the next move is Marvin telling Whizzer to move the bishop on f1 to c4

after that they just move random pieces and whizzer "wins"

so, i was thinking, and the 3 moves they actually make can be found in a very basic strategy called "scholar's mate", being, according to google, one of the first checkmates people learn when playing chess

so, why do I think this justifies my rant?

well, for many things, but for my and everyone else's sake i'll just say 2 of them

1. the fact that Marvin was using this strategy and recycled it for Whizzer when they changed the board, for me, represents that part of Marvin that swears he's smarter than he actually is-

-because if he was as smart as he thinks, why would he be using such a basic strategy? and why was he instructing Whizzer... to win?

because the way he is directing the game would mean that, eventually, Whizzer would win even if they hadn't given up

but also, the fact that Marvin kept directing the white pieces like he would win by doing that makes sense

the obc makes a clear comparison with marvin and the white pieces (specially the king) more than once

Marvin is all about control, power, being "the man" in his relationships, that's represented with the white pieces, with him making his first move before the song has even started

so when Whizzer flips the board, takes control, doesn't allow himself to be controlled by Marvin, he doesn't know what to do

he keeps playing like he normally would, keeps controlling, not realizing that this will end better for Whizzer than him

but that said, moving on to thing 2

2. their relationship during the first act was always destined to fail, and the way i see it, it's marvin's fault

we already established that Whizzer would win anyway, either because Marvin (initially) agreed to let him win or because of the strategy they were following, so that said, Marvin would've been pissed anyway

if he controls Whizzer but it turns out better for him then it's Whizzer's fault, but if Whizzer decides to take action and not let himself be controlled by Marvin, then it's also Whizzer's fault

it was destined to end they way it did, it doesn't matter what Whizzer did, Marvin would've never been happy, and if Marvin isn’t happy, no one else can be

SO WE REACHED THE END !!

Newbie Newsies

A guide for newcomers to the fandom

Chapter one- the basics

First things first! If you’re European get daily motion or dm me if you hate adds as much as i do cuz i have an add free version. Anyway if you’re in poland you’re fucked sorry lmfao. I can still send u the file if u dm me but i dont wanna seem like a creepy old dude in a basement so no pressure.

Anyway lets start small.

The fans are called fansies

Here are the different versions. Starting with visual(?) ones

The newsies strike originally happened in 1899. In 1992 it got made into a musical film that sorta flopped for some reason. Anyway its available on disney+. It’s largely referred to as 92’sies (basically anything we refer to we just take the word and put “‘sies” behind it lmao)

The movie got adapted to a musical and the show ran on broadway in 1012 until 2014 it came back in 2016 to film the proshot. There are plenty of bootlegs online. Some people refere to it as broadway’sies but it’s not something too common. Usually its just called OBC like for every other musical

There’s a newsies proshot on disney+ but it isnt available in Europe anymore since feburary, its also on amazon prime (only america) and dailymotion but that has an add every few seconds. This is the most known version since it’s been available for most people (at least until a month ago). Talking about this mostly uses live’sies as a name

Edit: idk how i could forget this but the mariot production was also really popular

In 2021 Newsies started running in the UK and shut down in summer 2023 (but if i got it correctly, it’s coming back) people call it west end’sies or UK’sies (mostly the latter) Im sure there’s a bootleg available online

IMPORTANT EDIT: and the new TUTS (theatre under the stars) production has been super popular. Unfortunately i don’t know much about it yet other than that the cast is good and that Katherine gets to wear pants and a fire fit.

There are a ton of productions over the world.

Newsies JR. is the version that school- and non-professional productions use. There is an infinite amount of bootlegs of this on youtube and recently the sommerville high production has been more and more popular, deffo recommend!

Then ofc there’s the non visual(?) ones.

The Newsies Novel, -who would have guessed it?- is known as Novel’sies and its the written version of 92’sies. Its mostly from Daveys perspective and includes scenes that were cut/deleted from the original version. There is a free pdf of this book online that you can download.

Hard promisses- thats what the original script of newsies was called. The story is a lot deeper and darker. This is the version that was send to Christian Bale before he knew it was going to be a musical. It’s also available online but it’s a bit harder to find. Not as really hard tho- while u can find the novel withine the first three results, hard promises might be the 10th or 11th on google.

Not to selfpromo but curently in progress is a crossover of all the different versions (+ historically correct and fannon) on AO3 called paper rains👀.

The scripts for each version are available online

All the original actors of the background characters had to make a tiny backstory for their newsie. The Traiding cards are available online (partly) or on amazon and ebay etc.

Blood trips heavily on Newsies square isn’t really a version of newsies but its with plot which is why i didnt oart of this sections. Its a three parted comedy (horror) story made by the original 92’sies cast for fun’sies during the making of the movie thats available on youtube.

A lot of fanfiction like,,, everywhere

Then ofc there are handbooks, behind the scenes and stuff like that and more.

And then of course the audio ones

And i also know that some of the actors have podcasts if you care abt that but i dont think that counts.

The story

Centers around a Newsboy Jack Kelly and his new (“)friend(“) Davey. They start a strike against the owners of the Newspapers and stop selling because they raised the prices for the papers even tho they have more than enough money, when the Newsboys barely make a living. Davey tries to talk him out of it but doesn’t succeed and actually gets invested in the strike.

For a more detailed plot and each versions story, keep reading. The end of the spoilerwarning will be marked by the line thingy

Historically.

The successful Newsies strike, aka the one that Newsies is about, happened in 1899. War had just ended and most Newspapers lowerd their prices. During the war, most newspapers cost more, not only because they had more limited recourses, but also simply because they COULD: The papers were selling well and the Newsboys wouldn’t care.-the papers weren’t sold to the people but to the newsies, who would then re-sell it to the people.

After the war had ended, all the Papers had lowerd their prices. All but two: the New York World… And the New York Journal…

Since the other papers didn’t have an infinite number of papers, the World’s and Journals’s newsies couldn’t simply buy elsewhere.

-if you ask me, those kids had a pretty well established system: the burrows and lodges each had “leaders”. Well, people that most listened to but yk same thing. (And sort of a hierarchy? Just some were more respected then other ig) and, actually important,: a system of who sells where, and what. It’s made out to be more professional in fanfiction than it was, they just talked (or fought)?it out with each other so no one would take customers from someone but eh-

And so, Kid Blink, a Newsboy from Long Island -real name: Louis Ballat/Lewis Baletti- (that was one of the older ones (a majority of newsies were children at the time) ) decided to do something about it. They decided to go on strike like the trolleyworkers from brooklyn did. They started protesting and beat up the strike breakers -“scabs”- (but not the girls, thats why a lot of girls scabbed) they pushed over one of the wagons delivering the newspapers to the world selling spot thingys. Two days later a guy nicknamed Racetrack (real name: Ed) higgins, a leader figure of one of Brooklyn’s Newsboys, send over a kid with a message saying that they had their back. After a bit more time that happened more often. One time with a guy called spot conlon, a guy wearing pink suspenders, another leading figure of Brooklyn (who is suspected to be the same person as racetrack higgins). It all went on for around two or three weeks (i think?) with a few mentionable events happening : -With other burrow’s joining the strike, Joeseph Pullitzer (the current world owner and creator) and William Hearst (the current journal owner) did start to get nervous and send goons and payed scabs more. It got to a point where even cops would show up to beat the Newsboys. The -Newsboys refused to let down and held several rallies in a theatre in manhattan that Aiva Overton Walker, a suprisingly successful woman (when you consider she was a black woman in 1899) and performer let them use. The biggest one had something between 2000 and 5000 Newsboys inside the theatre and an lot more outside. - at the rallies, Speaches were held by racetrack higgins, Kid Blink, „Warhorse“ Brennon (Real name: David(?)), a former Newsboy that sold for twenty years so a lot longer and until he was a lot older than most, Annie Kelly, one of the few newsgirls and more.

-most newspapers didn’t ignore the strine, they did smt worse: they made fun off it

-then they DID start ignoring it

-They also came to an agreement with what they were already doing anyways, soak the scabbers but not the girls aso aso.

-Kid Blink having a gun in his mouth and telling the person to shoot rather than betraying the strike

-kid blink being accused of scabbing and being a sell-out because he was seen wearing fancier clothes, and chased down by other Newsboys

-kid blink stepping down as a leading figure after this. Still striking though.

-the New York Sun reporting about the strike

-the New York Sun stopping to report about the strike lol

-a lot of newsboys and -girls being arrested and taken to the house of refuge

This brought a lot more attention to the refuge in general. Especially when a drawing of the inside was published.

^Keep that one in mind^

So eventually Both sides grew super tired of it all but they refused to give up. With there being a general agreement of all the Newspapers, that they wouldn’t report on the strike, the Newsies did the only logical thing: they made their own fucking paper. And they called it the Newsies Banner. This had two major purposes:

For one: drawing attention to the strike obviously and getting all the working kids of New York City, not just Newsies but, Blacksmiths, Shoe-shiners/Bootblacks, Slaughters, Breakers/Miners, Stablers, Mail kids, factory girls, liftmen, sewing girls etc etc to strike. A city wide strike motherfucker. Mind you: In new york in 1899 the world was practically run by working kids. There are records suggesting that there were more working kids than adults. Not only did New York shut down for business, but they also all met at Newsies Square to demonstrate. Until Theodore Motherfucking Rosavelt got involved. They left Pulitzer and hearst with no choice but to cooperate. They didn’t lower the prices BUT they agreed to reduce the race by which the papers price would keep rising and to boy back every paper that the Newsboys couldn’t sell.

-and secondly: remember when i said to keep the refuge thingy in mind? Yeah well they talked about this in their newsies banner as well. Not only got a lot of kids arrested for unnecessary things for way to long but also innocents. The city would give more money for every child in the refuges care. However none of that money ever saw its real purpose: food and drinks etc. Instead Warden Snyder, who ran a refuge would take the money for himself. And as if that wasn’t enough he would abuse the kids in the refuge, drag out their time in there and more. He got arrested and fully investigated as soon as Rosavelt found out.

92‘sies

A lot is the same so i wont go as much into detail as i did.

So theres this bunch of Newsies just living their „best“ lifes. This kid, Davey, and his Brother, Les, first become Newsies because their father broke his arm and can’t work but they need money and meet Jack Kelly, a leader of the Duanestreet n°9 lodge (aka Cowboy) and some other Newsies like Crutchie, a guy who’s only personality trait is apparently needing crutches, Kid Blink, yes you read that right, the guy that was the leader of the actual strike, Mush, his boyfriend, racetrack, you read right again, but this time he’s a manhattan newsie and ‚only’ second in command, specs, a tall guy with glasses, snipeshooter, small and annoying, and others. They learn techniques to sell papers. They learn how the Newsies survive. They learn to lie for money. Davey doesn’t like that lol bc they were tought better. However they soon get spotted by Snyder and a goon he’s around with and chased. Jack jumps of a roof davey thinks the guy killed himself or something but the roof was really not up high and so les and davey follow, snyder doesn’t. Long storry short, after a bit of running they end up in the back of a theatre. Davey confronts Jack about snyder calling him „sullivan“ and he explains he was in the refuge fir stealing food. Mrs Medda larkin, the owner of the theatre doesn’t reckognise jack for a second and wants them to leave. But then she does and they stay. They watch her perform and it’s dark out by the time they leave. Jack tells them all about how he totally has an existing family that is absolutely definitely real. Davey suggests jack come with him and les to eat with their parents and he does. Intro esther mayer and sarah jacobs, Daveys and Les‘ family. Mayer and Esther are his parents, Sarah his older sister who’s only personality trait is being a girl. When jack is alone again later he gets jealous of daveys having-a-family and talks about his dream of going to santa fee. Pullitzer is in a war with hearst of who sells more (and who makes more generally) so they raise the prices a papes for the newsies. Nessies dont like that and the world will know grr>:(. They ask spot conlon, the leader of the entirety of Brooklyn (?) to join the strike but he says no bc he thinks they’re not tough enough. All the other borrows only wanna join if brooklyn does so the manhattan newsies get insecure and think its better to stop but that’s exactly what spot meant when he said they were gonna fold at the first sign of trouble. So davey tells them to get their shot together and then they’re all in this together again. They fight the Delancys and crutchie gets arrested. So thats how they show spot theyre not gonna fold. They wanna rescue crutchie but then they,,, don’t… (?) so the next time they fight spot and brooklyn show up and they all get their hopes up. Mr denton, a news reporter from the sun covers the story and they’re the kings of new york (but not Brooklyn. Bc spot is the king of brooklyn. Spot is also a dwarf so there’s that.) thank you denton thank you denton! Blink and Mush have a moment and they decide to hold a rally. At the rally they decide not to beat eachother up- which is quite the opposite of what actually happened but sure- then the cops arest everyone and especially jack and race gets knocked out. oh nO jacks name is actually francis sulivan and denton is disloyal. Pullitzer threatens jack to hurt davey if he doesn’t stop striking. Davey breakes jack out but then they’re being gay so logically jack goes back to jail voluntarily. The next day jack scabs and everyone is mad duh. But then he helps davey who is currently being beat by the Delancys the assholes and everyone is fine again because Jack isn’t what hes not: smart. They make the banner with an old printing press that jack has been sleeping on. OH AND DENTON IS GOOD GUY AGAIN. So yeah the. The newsies banner thingy happens and teddy bear is taking the glory lmao. Oh btw pulitzer put the prize back down.

Jack goes to santa fee but then he doesn’t and he’s also suddenly apearantly in love with sarah because she’s a girl so dey kiss •3• And then they kive happily ever after tadaaa

Live’sies

This one has a prologue. Many people think it actually plays years ahead of the actual story but thats beside the point

Basically crutchie falls off of a roof so Jack tells him about santa fe.

The Newsies tell us about their life. Specs does some backflips and a lot of really cool tricks. The headline is about the trolley strike. For the third week in a row thats the only thing they got. Oscar and Morris beat up their father at the trolley strike (they have daddy issues™️) and jack shives oscar so he has to run. Bla bla. They get their papes. And all say some punchlines insulting weisel, the guy who sells the papes. This new kid davey and his little brother les are there and try not to get in trouble(?)

Pullitzers barber is over and he all his employees are silly and he’s just done with them. He sings using his barber (nunzio) to get his point across. (Apparently. I don’t understand the comparison to this day) anyway so the bottom line is that instead of lowering the price fir the papers or firing some people or like salary cuts, they put up the price for the newsies. To feel less guilty he tells himself he’s teaching them all a lesson in economics, since they can’t afford real school.

Jack has a minor crisiswhen realising that Davey and Les have parents and then snyder almost gets him but the can escape him and tgeir in the theatre. Medda wants them out bc they’re kids but then realises it’s jack so it’s fine and doesn’t care tgat theyre kids anymore and LETS LES STARE AT NAKED LADYS /exg she sings and later jack talks to a reporter from the sun who was reviewing the show. He is being snarky and flirty and draws her but she doesn’t want jackshit from him (*wheezes* get it? Cuz his name is jack?)

The prices are being put up that next morning and the newsies Do Not Like That obv and decide to strike. Katherine comes in when they’re discussing who’s gonna let Brooklyn and spot conlon know about the strike and asks why they’re scared. Jack tells her its because brooklyn is big asf™️. He’s being snarky and flirty again and she writes an article about the strike having another Minor Crisis™️.

The next day they stop the scabbers and jack holds a speech and tgey fight the delancys and win but then they fight the cops and lose Big Time. Jack is having yet another minor crisis and blames himself and talks about going to santa fe.

Act two: they tap dance to celebrate crutchie being at the refuge and Jack being missing? being on the front page woth katherines article. Jack is being depressed at meddas and paints smt. Then davey cones and convinces him to come back because quitting doesn’t get crutchie back out of the refuge. They decide to have a raly.

Jack makes the mistake of inviting pulitzer to the raly. This is when he finds out katherine is actually pullitzers daughter and then gets put in the refuge but pulitzer gives him the offer to be free and rich if he tells the newsies to stop. He can sleep in the delancys basement.

Brooklyn shows up late andSAVES THE DAY WOOOOO

They have a raly. Jack tells the to dispan the union. Davey is disappointed boyfriend™️. Katherine talks to jack and he agrees and everyone forgives him (?) and they make their own paper getting all the working kids of nyc to strike with them. It works and teddy rosavelt cancels the refuge, gets snyder arested and makes pulitzer make a deal with jack: the reduce the race of the price going up by half and buy back the papes the newsies couldn’t sell. Jack decides to stay and everyone lives happily ever after!

When we imitate talking like newsies we just put on an old fahion nyc accent but a lot of people just put an S behind every I and stuff like that. (Believe it or not but theres actually a pattern for when these are used or not but not a lot of people understand that so dont freak out)
