Some iromo au concept arts!!!! Here’s a nothing!!!! (Literally. That is their names. I’m so clever woah)

I don’t think that this is what it’ll end up looking like since I want the nothings to be kinda like headspace in this au in which they are really fun and bright looking but represent trauma and horrible memories and all that stuff (info dump under cut!!!)

OKAY SO this is rosemary’s nothing (I have one for dawn too but it is very complex so I’m putting off drawing it) which I have nicknamed the lurker for convenience’s sake to differentiate!!!

The lurker is just that, he lurks. In contrast to how basil’s something is constantly devouring him, the lurker is always as far from Rosemary as possible while still being in her peripheral vision. She can always see him out of the corner of her eye, or feel his presence behind her. Sometimes he’s closer than normal, sometimes farther. But he’s always there and he’s never gone, and he doesn’t move. He just watches.

Thissss is to represent how Rosemary reacted to the incident...! without giving much away her whole thing is inaction. While basil did a horrible thing out of impulse to protect his friend and regrets it immensely everyday, viewing himself almost as a monster alongside ‘something’, a thing he knows doesn’t exist deep down but has to believe in it to defend sunny, and puts himself on par with it, Rosemary does the exact opposite- she was frozen in terror and did nothing at the scene. She didn’t move. She just watched, shaking, panicked, unable to do anything like she usually does. Maybe if she had just stepped forward to help, or reached for a phone to call an ambulance just that bit sooner, all of this could have been prevented. Maybe she could have done something. Maybe she could have saved him.

But that didn’t happen. She did nothing, and without precious time, the results of the incident worsened and ended as they do in the au’s modern day. Rosemary tries not to blame herself. But she can’t hold the guilt off. No matter how plagued she is by nightmares in which the demons that stalk her silently mock her, telling her all these thoughts she’s buried down, she denies them, over and over again, claiming her own innocence. But she doesn’t believe herself, whether she knows that or not she doesn’t know. But no matter how firm she is about her lack of guilt, she feels it deep inside, and it HURTS.

Also, the lurker’s lower half is roots! I wanted to do that (a) to emphasise the fact he’s “rooted in place” (b) to bring plant imagery into it and (c) so that he’d have that classic tendril motif the somethings have in the og game!!

demon chronicle chatter. i want to yap about damien

players who are not currently romancing damien do not interact

so spiders is a reboot/continuation of a game i ran in college, positioned as being roughly five years after the events in the first game. the original game had this running issue where i was… enthusiastic about playing tabletop games with my friends, and bit off way more than i can chew. part of that involved me essentially having a bunch of sideplots involving other splats and it kind of got out of hand. okay. it’s not my fault splintered city: seattle has some really good sample crossover ideas.

we’ve toned that down a lot, especially as i’ve refined my focus. BUT. there’s one major supernatural npc at this point who’s stuck around and i need to introduce you to my son.

so damien is a vampire and he was originally a throwaway character for a scene meant to set up that i was doing some requiem bullshit— he’s a daeva with a bunch of prettyboy vampire stereotypes, long dark hair and reddish-amber eyes, etc. unfortunately everybody fell in love with him so he stuck around hard (and one player did not realize he was a vampire until after the game went on hiatus because the other two thought it was funnier and more IC to not say anything).

shortly after introducing him i decided that he was a phd dropout who was studying quantum physics before getting embraced against his will a couple of years before the start of the game— he was miserable at the start of the game and still adjusting to the kindred lifestyle, kind of always in the throes of an existential crisis. it really threw off a lot of his life and his plans post-grad, and the intimate partner abuse undertones with his ex (mekhet who wanted him ghouled forever) and his sire (terrible opportunist) didn’t help. he was so insecure and self-loathing and would get in his own head about using charm to get what he wants.

but because of his credentials, he’s got a comfortable job at DEVA, biotech campus and god machine cult. (there aren’t many people who work the night shift there, but i figure somebody needs to be keeping an eye on the tests). when one of the demon pcs got detained there, he smuggled them out, and they’re now… dating, kind of. they bought a house together and they sleep in the same bed. it’s made complicated because one of their covers is living with him, and other one of their covers has since gotten a job working with him at DEVA, but yknow.

anyways, post-reboot, he’s stigmatic now! after years of constant exposure to aetheric energy. and he’s blood-bonded to his demon boyfriend, so they’re both crazy down bad for each other. damien is a carthian by any normal metric, and does stay kinda (like, status •) involved in kindred politics, but he spends most of his time obsessively fixated on infrastructure and the way that these power systems work, now that he sees the moving parts.

and the two of them have spent the last five years making each other worse. i’m giving him some of the stuff from contagion chronicle that lets him function as a tempter— and the two of them go out to bars and stuff and use each other’s social powers back and forth (whether that’s vampire majesty or a demon gently tipping the scene towards some coincidence) to make it easier for both of them to feed and wriggle their way into convincing people to give part of themselves up via contract.

and it’s just like. i’m really happy for him. he hasn’t been re-introduced to the group yet (just his partner, we haven’t had a group session at night yet), but i’ve decided that he’s just… more confident and way more comfortable with himself. he’s having a lot more fun and seems to thrive in the cold war all of the demons around him are fighting and he’s more willing to make underhanded plays in navigator’s favor when it’s playing against the machine. bloodsucking parasite in pleasant company. guy who just wants hell.

and also i cannot wait for basil to realize something’s shifted and damien’s a little scarier now. but yknow
