...So uh, I kinda lost some game files... and I had to technically start over, but it was a good thing!

Because there was some stuff I didn't like so, I guess it's still a win.

People sleep on Beyond Birthday because he's only ever alluded to in the anime but there's so much fic/smut/angst potential there. Like if you like the idea of yandere L, Beyond is RIGHT THERE as what is functionally a much darker version of L (yes I know he doesn't actually look like L, and in fact I headcanon him as being taller and tanner than L and of a completely different Asian ethnicity). I mean, for real, the guy is

-a genius

-cursed (what else can you call being made to see death dates everywhere your whole life)

-tall (probably over 6 ft considering he towers over Misora, who is 5'7")

-riddled with childhood trauma and identity issues

-an actual literal serial killer

-deludes himself into thinking he's special because the only death date he doesn't know is his own

-not L but is obsessed with mimicking/surpassing L

-mentally unstable af (dude literally sets himself on fire)

-notably creepy (but I mean so is the real L)

-probably super kinky let's be real he's too fucked up not to be

something thats really special about the labb murder cases is that the one thing beyond couldn't fully plan was his own death

well

to rephrase

it was the one thing he couldnt know for certain, because he couldnt see his own lifespan, as he could with his other victims

thats why, when he set the apartment on fire, he hadnt really known if he would actually die, but did it anyways because he has likely been wanting to know that one date for his entire life

and

the fact that he was killed by kira

he must have seen the people dying around him in prison, their lifespans cut short and not known exactly what had happened at first

he's really smart of course, but its not like he *knew* why he could see names and lifespans most likely. thats not often something people like. are gonna talk about, and if it really was only him with the eyes that would be mildly surprising

even on the day he died

he never would have known his own numbers

because he never lived up to his lifespan before light killed him with the notebook

and i think thats an interesting concept

forces light to turn on reality TV shows for him to watch

Like Ryuk, she's grown attached to Misa as well, more so than Ryuk and Light 

cares for Misa in a motherly way and tries to take care of her whenever possible

when Misa finds a new food she likes she makes Rem try it

doesn’t quite understand music, but enjoys some of what Misa listens to 

is always confused when it comes to human customs and culture but enjoys learning about them

fascinated by dance and activities like it

Beyond Birthday

He definitely has a very erratic type of personality and is really hard to follow even in casual conversation

He's completely unpredictable

despite his glaring issues, he can be pretty sweet at times, even if they are rare.

is an adrenaline junkie.

he doesn't have the money to afford to do some of the more popular adrenaline activities (sky diving, etc) he gets his thrills through free means

he will go and harass law enforcement officers or anyone who is perceived as intimidating or threatening

an overall menace to society

the Shinigami eyes actually pose some medical and sight issues for him

he has poor regular vision when he isn't using the eyes, and when he does use the eyes it causes a lot of eye strain and migraines.

He's still grieving the death of A, and probably will be for the rest of his life (somebody please get this guy some therapy please. Wammy's house fucked his ass UP.)

First step for my Another note fan game!

The game will feature:

Items, puzzles, multiple choices, multiple endings, a special ending cutscene, game over screens (?), quick time events, and so on.

I wanted to re-use the DS sprites for the characters, but it felt wrong and lazy so, I decided to draw them in my style.

I gotta think about the other poses and expressions.

Something about L's voice doesn't convince me tho....

I think once I'll finish the game, I'll make it available on my itch.io profile.

I say "getting laid would fix Beyond Birthday" as a joke but I do truly think half the reason he went rogue (much like Mello) was because he was raised in a shitty orphanage that didn't value him for who he is, only his potential to be molded into the next L. That he was never made to feel like he was worthy simply as Beyond and not "the backup L successor." Not worthy of being valued or loved (did any of those kids ever really feel that way? Just look at A and Mello and possibly even Matt) without surpassing L, and that a genuine and healthy relationship with someone who would love and accept him simply for being Beyond could have possibly kept him from going fully off the deep end.

But he is also a self-fulfilling prophecy because his childhood trauma + being cursed to know when everyone is going to die probably made him too toxic to ever be able to find the very thing that might have saved him.
