My non-kin brother and I have a "guess who anon kins" game we play when I drag him into new media. Very fun, highly reccomend if you have a sibling or friend who knows you kin when you introduce them to media. (personally even more fun when the player isnt kin and doesnt fully grasp the concept) Anyway thats just background.

Nothing feels better than when your brother sees your kin in Introduced Media and goes "hmm. They remind me of.... [other kin he barely knows about]".

after this phone fiasco with my mom and grandma I do need to just speak up more bc I understand both of them better than each other and themselves and I predicted this whole scenario lol. if it were me, I would’ve given my grandma the illusion of autonomy when choosing her next phone.

bc she has the emotional intelligence of a small child and a lot of dignity and when these people hit like 85, you can’t just let them do whatever they want bc they do not understand the kind of world they’re navigating. they will not always know what’s best for themselves when it involves technology and especially when they let their spouse handle all of that up until their spouse dies. and I’d think my mom would understand this but she has poor social awareness lmao so now she’s irritated and my grandma is irritated and I am mediating a situation I predicted simply bc I didn’t want to be bothered with being called bossy by my grandma even though all of the decisions I make for her and to help her always benefit her and she’s so thankful later.

an 89 year old woman with memory issues, emotional intelligence issues and a strong aversion to handling difficult paperwork situations should not be in charge of picking her own phone bc when you let her do that, she will inevitably pick the wrong phone and then be upset and expect you to just know how to fix the situation bc she thinks androids and iPhones are the same phone when they are not and not understand why you can’t easily figure out how to help her with her new phone that you have very little understanding of bc you have not had an android in like 15 years lmao. my mom should have stepped in and warned her that if she gets an android and not an iPhone she will face more issues learning how to navigate that phone bc it’s very different and will not be easy to learn. lead her to the decision that will be the choice that makes her happy long term lol. and that means understanding that later she will be happy that she followed your advice bc she didn’t understand the full scope of her situation and was picking based on extremely limited knowledge. bc now that she’s unhappy with her choice she tells you “well I didn’t understand this would happen!” and make it your responsibility to fix it bc nothing is ever her fault and block out the parts where you have consistently tried helping her over the past few days.

if I’m having issues navigating the android I know my grandma will if I leave her with it so I would’ve had her pick another iPhone. or warned her about getting a Samsung but since they’ve gone through two phones trying to figure this out, my grandma is determined to stick with the phone she has. I think she’s stubborn enough to do it but I don’t want to hear the incessant complaining. so for next time, I will once again have to give her the illusion of choices. this seems so small but shit like this happens all the time here.

And I should be studying, but here are some thoughts for season 16 so far:

(SPOILER WARNING, OBVIOUSLY)

1 - Merluca and it’s parts: COUPLES FIGHT STOP PREDICTING THE WORST OK. They’ve been completely adorable so far, but this is what someone said in a interview: “This is the after in happy ever after” (or something to that effect). They’re gonna fight and them they’re gonna make up, I hope. As for their fight: They were both in the right imo. Yes, Meredith is being inconsequent and it must be so frustrating for Deluca to A)Have her continue risking her career and license and freedom when he went to such lengths to help that, B) Be crapped on constantly bc of something your girlfriend did. Yes, Meredith is completely right in fighting the system that is so throughtly broken, and yes, coming to apologize to her mentor and longtime friend was completely the right thing to do. I wanna see merluca wedding and marriage! Maybe (since there are two pregnant people in this season already?) next season will be Mer and Jo? One can dream! For them individually: Poor Mer, she has bitten more than she can chew but she is ready to take on this fight! Imma love to see her as auntie mer! I mis merjolex so much tho, I know she’s been busy and all but they seem to forget she is a important part in their support system. Andrew has been all over the place. I love his confidence, but in the ep where he literally screamed at Bailey over her trying to teach an intern? And called her out bc she was using a different material than Mer? I was a bit off-thrown. But he’s still a great character I enjoy watching. Hope they find the balance between confidence and arrogance for him, and develop him even more!

2 - Amelink: AAAAAA. They’re so amazing and perfect and sweet and I wanna hug them both. Link is everything you could wish for, Amy is adorable as ever. If they lay a finger on either them as a couple, them as individuals, or their baby, imma kick some asses. I don’t think they will tho, Amy is been through SO MUCH already and she deserves a breath.

3 - Bailey: OMG SHE IS PREGNANT AAAAAAAA. I’m so happy! Ben is already a great dad, this will be so fun to watch! Hope they don’t put her through the ringer with a difficult pregnancy or a sick child, she does not deserve this! She already nearly lost her first child while giving birth in a bomb-y hospital while her husband had brain surgery NEXT to the bomb. Enough pregnancy drama for a lifetime. As for her actions: I’ve said before: I’m pissed, yes. She’s acting way too harsh and taking it out on people and more importantly (as I’ve touched on in my female grey’s characters ranking post) she’s out of character. Where is the Bailey that went around the hospital runnning after the attendings and kicking their asses into signing her proposal for a free clinic? And gave them a speech on how they had failed her and she needed something to believe in in medicine? She was one of the first characters to point out how broken the system was, to take direct action to try and fix it. Sure, she likes to try and work within the rules as much as possible, much she is not adverse to breaking a few of them if she thinks it’s necessary (hello deactivated HIV inside a young boy’s body without parental consent! Hello changing the date on a surgery which is also insurance fraud!)! If she thinks it’ll save a life! But also, she’s not completely wrong: Meredith did commit a crime, as good as her intentions were; As her boss, firing her was the only logical decision. She thought her hospital (which she dedicated a good half of her life to) was being attacked by someone she trained into the surgeon she is, ofc she’d be mad as all hell. Quadri was disrespectful, not doing her job well, actively getting in the way of her superior doing her job, screaming at her boss in the middle of the hallway about how she didn’t want to work there - firing her was a tad extreme (specially for a charact who has never, herself, had any qualms ahout mouthing off to her own superiors when she didn’t think something was right) but not completely out of nowhere. I hate hate hate how they’ll probs throw a “oh she was being crazy bc pregnancy hormones!” line after seeing how her actions have been badly perceived by people (like there isn’t enough a stereotype that women can’t have positions of power because hormones make them crazy) instead of “hey this character was put in extremely uncomfortable and tough positiona after extremely uncomfortable and tough positions and came off as harsher than necessary while trying to balance a world-class hospital crisis”. Ugh.

4 - Jackson: Ok so the last few eps have rekindled my love for him and I’m relieved! There’s the good, kind, funny and smart guy I like! I was mad bc of the whole Jaggie drama, but hey, shit happens! If they will be better apart, then I’m happy! (Ok 50% of this is because of what he said to levi! Stanning Meredith Grey + dorky Harry Potter reference? Yes!!!!). I hope this season will be kind on him, that he and Vicky work out well (from what I gathered about it, she has also been through a lot) and that we see more Harriet!

5 - Maggie: Baby girl. I love that they’re consistent that she has a jealous streak but is also a very good person who is always trying her best. Plus, official womb secret bearer is the best title omg! Maybe she should change from cardio to obgyn, lol! Plus, the sisters are everything to me! She instantaneous knew Amy was mad! She stood up for Mer! Aaaaa I love them!!!! Hope this show ends with all three of them happy and loved and badass as always!

6 - Others: Tom has been an.... Interesting piece. I love him, but his antics are almost caricature-esque now and it’s getting on my nerves. He was detestable in exploitating that family’s pain but also, the hospital did need a pr boost or it’d be in even hotter waters! The restraining order on Owen was a tad much bc it got in the way of patient care, but also he did get electrocuted in a very sensitive area by someone who had just gotten together with his ex - I’d be a little suspicious that it was 100% unintentional tbh. He’s power drunk and needs to be turned down a notch. Schmit and Nico and adorkable as always and I loved Nico’s speech about demanding more of himself - That’s one of the biggest traps of low self-steem and Imm glad it’s mentioned. I’ll miss Quadri. Helm being a MeredithGrey stan first and person second is still me lol. I loved how this last ep showed how much of a family they are - all the connections and shared pasts and references to relationships and what not. The “bird” storyline was so cute! Pac North seems so promissing and I’ll cry ugly tears when my baby Alex turns that ish around and shows everyone who’s boss!!!! The whole “the world is broken” theme of the season is my jam! Sadly, irl that handful of people are not gonna turn it around, but I want to see it happen on my screen! The medical system being fixed! As a future doctor (I promissed myself I’d not be the person who brings it up in every opportunity but lol here I am) it’d make me so happy! Against my better judgment, I’m liking Towen! They are trying, they’re really trying! Owen has done nothing wrong so far (besides offering to milk teddy which was just dumb, not malicious) and has been great at stepping down from his job so she could work! And him at Pac North will be great tbh - as much as I didlike him, he is an excellent doctor and strategist and he was a great chief at GS (until the last bit which was just gross negligence). From the promo for next ep: I don’t think they’ll make Webber cheat again. It’d be predictable and cheap and I’d be so mad that we’d have another round of acting like he’s a saint with a tiny issue of being a cheater. What I theorize is: He’ll have lunch with his friend, and either A) She’ll be friendly at the wrong time and Catherine will walk in and then think he’s cheating and it’ll be a mess, or B) Gemma is gonna try to get him back to drinking (Or maybe C) She was telling him to stop being bullheaded and fighting with his wife when life is so short). Cristina reference in the text omg, my heart!

looking back, did you expect to write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected?

around what i expected... i was aiming for 1 fic a month and didn’t quite manage to hit that but i feel like each fic was longer than usual (i’m a terminal shortfic writer so anything over 3k is long for me). like i kept going 1-4k over my projected wordcount which was extremely panic-inducing when i was trying to write to deadlines lmao so overall i’m okay with the quantity of words i produced this year!

what pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?

fandom-wise probably the survival show spiral and moving into ncity... if 2017 was the year of yugioh then 2018 was the year of rpf. some of the stuff i posted to socks was very uncharacteristic of my usual m.o but i think everything i put on main was very true to brand i.e ambiguous relationships + vague pining + emo conversations in the dark

did you take any writing risks this year? what did you learn from them?

i signed up for svtbb and had to drop out due to exam pressure, which was sad bc it’s the first exchange/fest i’ve ever defaulted on, but then i went and did lordeventeen and yuletide even though they partly ran through exam seasons too so i guess i learned nothing?!?

actually i think i probably could have afforded to take a few more risks genre-wise, i feel like everything i wrote in 2018 recycled the exact same themes but also at the same time those themes are the only thing i can write. terrible taste i will never change i will never improve that is a promise etc etc

what’s your own favorite story of the year?

reaching for you from the endless dream had me tearing my hair out while i was writing it but ultimately i feel like it paid off! i’ve always wanted to try canon compliant + magic and this ended up with some of the best writing i’ve ever done, plus i’m happy i was finally able to write something for one of my favourite svt ships <3 honourable mention to the concept behind when we see each other again, my post-disbandment allzzt ship manifesto titled after csc_uri_dasi_bol_ttae.mp3 

best story of the year?

also reaching for you from the endless dream! i’m really proud of how this one turned out both in terms of technical quality (.... *repeats the same phrase 300 times* Is This Thematic Consistency?) and emotional beats, and it got so many lovely comments. i think this is probably one of my best fics ever, and i’m glad it struck a chord with other people too!

most popular story of the year?

not counting teiits since most of that was posted in 2017, it’s counting flower petals all day long, which really surprised me when i checked my ao3 stats? i must have hit the sweet spot of fandom growth + burgeoning ship popularity bc literally nothing happens in the fic other than one (1) kiss, but thank you for giving it so much love 💖

story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:

omg i think everything i wrote this year was WAY over-appreciated but coincidence makes sense, which features a f/f/f rarepair (raretrio?) in a fandom with very little western fan presence, so i’m not surprised by its stats but i’m still pretty fond of this one and consider it one of the better fics i wrote in 2018, and one of the best idolverse fics i’ve ever written

most fun story to write:

from first principles, the debate au fic i’ve wanted to write for like 6 years, my beloved pet project through the month of august, and i think it shows? i tripled my projected word count and in the process of writing fully converted to dreamyism(/renjunism), so a lot of love went into it, even though there are places you can tell i definitely rushed the execution. one day i’ll do justice to a proper nct sports anime fic... 

story with the single sexiest moment:

all the rated content i wrote this year was posted to socks other than the brief dance studio 3some scene in take one step closer, but i genuinely have no idea if that was even sxc since i wrote it on my phone in a feverish last-minute sprint on a plane while blasting twice bdz and haven’t reread it at all jhfgdfjdfh

most sweet story:

the general tone of everything i wrote in 2018 was much less depressing than 2017 but i guess the sweetest story was we both chose each other... what’s more romantic than dismembering a bunch of thugs with your beloved partner and then jumping off a cliff together!!

kind of a weird question to apply to rpf... characterisation perceptions are constantly shifting based on current meta and au role needs, though i feel like i’m always struggling to play catchup and by the time i publish anything the general image has shifted ;__;

every time i’m working on something, especially when i’m close to finishing, it is the hardest thing i have ever written... i can’t remember if writing has always been this difficult for me or if it’s an rpf thing. probably i struggled the most with reaching for you from the endless dream bc i’m deeply intimidated by writing jun (light of my life) due to the fear of not doing him justice, and also the deadline pressure nearly killed me. also at one point i called writing from first principles the worst experience of my life but looking back it wasn’t even that bad... mostly it was just that it kept getting longer and longer and eventually i was like Please God Let It End Already

biggest disappointment:

Okay I had to make another part because I’m so emotional about all the contestants we lost 😢😢😢 like I said earlier - the J contestants were done extremely dirty in my opinion and there being NONE remaining outside of the top 9 is insane. Ruan, Ririka, Manami, May, and Kotone were so amazing and talented throughout this whole competition and I kid u not when I say every one of them stood out in the creation mission (along with other performances ofc but I think they all really shined in the original songs). If Mnet had given them more screen time outside of performances I genuinely think they would’ve all been ranked higher 😭 I adore Myah and am absolutely thrilled we’ll see more of her but I can’t help but really wish that at least one of the amazing J contestants could’ve been saved 😢😢 Xin yu and chen hsinwei I did see coming but they still broke my heart (especially when hsinwei couldn’t speak after being so close - I’ve known her since ywy2 so it was super hard to see her get eliminated again, but she ranked so much higher this time and has so many more fans now so I’m looking forward to her next steps). And then the big one that mnet barely paid any attention and gave super little screen time to - cai bing. Despite her not being one of my picks, I genuinely feel so bad for her and her falling so low and ending up being eliminated before the final is something I was not predicting at all. tbh I’m actually surprised the planet pass didn’t go to her?? Either way I hope for the best for her (and the rest of them ofc) and pray we’ll get to see them on the screen or in music again soon ☺️💗 what are your thoughts on these eliminations? Y E S the fact that only FOUR j trainees survived is WILD!!! especially when like you said they all stood out in the creation mission and have all been giving consistently great performances but unfortunately have just not had the screentime needed. each one was carried to this point of the competition by the charisma and skills they showed on stage instead of storylines and i can't begin to imagine how much more popular they would be if we were able to get to know them on the show :(( i love myah and she def deserved to get saved bc she stands out in most performances she does - saving her meant all 9K trainees survived which just. for a global girlgroup?? esp with the interim rankings now, as she's went from 25 to 8 which. h o w.

im sorry you had to see hsinwei get eliminated again :( i loved her personality sm and cant wait to see more of her aswell. i feel so bad for how she had to stand up on the stage just to hear it wasnt her who got through you could tell how much she wants to debut i hope yuehua gives her the chance soon. cai bing was given NOTHING this episode after she was such a big part of the early show it was so sad. the show built her up by giving her top9 ep2 only to edit her harshly for 3 episodes in a row then ignore her (idk how much was evil editing and how much was just. her but at the same time they made sure we saw evil cai bing and nothing else whenevr she was on screen) so im not surprised they didnt give her the planet pass bc they made it obvious how they feel about her.

i kinda expected a few of the results, except that i figured manami would be 17 and ruan would be 15/14, with suyeon and huang xing qiao being eliminated. everytime the camera panned to ruan during rankings i felt worse and worse for her :(( i expected that cai bing would be eliminated, but i really didnt think she'd be last at ALL, and myah being 25?? i thought she'd be 19/18 but wow...

I'VE BEEN PONDERING NEXUS
