cannot imagine being caleb widogast btw and having such a fixed view of yourself as this irredeemable monstrous man who wishes for nothing more than to atone for the unatonable while also questioning whether you even deserve to live long enough to do so and then befriending this girl who is notorious for never sparing anyone's feelings when she has something to say and has, since you've known her, intentionally rebuilt herself from the ground up into someone who is real and direct and honest even when it hurts, and for her to lean forward and look into your eyes and say, with a magnitude of brutal honesty that only she could muster, that it Wasn't Your Fault.

The isolation of trans women, and specifically the common pattern of trans women being kicked out of communities, is interesting to me as a radical transfeminist. or like, I tend to think there are a lot of interlocking effects that produce it.
First, trans women are talked about but not listened to. In our specific position as trans women we are subject to a particular strain of misogyny justifying itself with transphobia that let's people be safely misogynist towards us. Or, we are seen as too loud, too present, too mean, too angry, etc. The impulse to shut us up (because we are women) is justified (because we are trans).
Second, our rejection of assimilation (which, to be clear, i think is both necessary and good). This is I think more interesting and more complicated. Most trans women are not just trans women. We are disabled, poor, or fat. We aren't conventionally attractive or we won't perform femininity. Our broader transfeminist movement rejects assimilationism. And, in doing so, we fail to assimilate.
Broader anti-intersectional politics sees people marginalized in multiple ways as necessarily illegible to preserve structural power. If you understand that not all women are white, you must then recognize that just accepting white women is not enough. That the systems in place must be destroyed and cannot merely by fixed by treating each intersection (starting with the closest to power) with step by step bug fixes. Then, trans women are, generally, illegible.
In the interpersonal sphere, I think this manifests very interestingly as a mythologizing of us. We are not seen as trans women (as in members of the idealized group), because none of us precisely fit the tropes. Or, maybe we are, until we fail those tropes. And, being not seen as that, it is safe to mistreat us. The intersection of transness with femaleness plays out on a fractal scale and each further marginalization is another argument that we aren't worth it.
Then, finally, the tropes about us. We're mean girls, separatists, rapists, predators, problematic, radfems. These stories about us then provide the explanation. We aren't the perfect mythologized image of the trans woman so when we inevitably fail to meet that image we are revealed to be mean, spiteful, bitches who just need to shut up and listen while they tell us what we are and why we need to leave now and never talk again. And misogyny is right and the cycle is complete.

“Psychological Manipulation and the Illusion of Intelligence: Unmasking Defective Power Dynamics in Social Interactions”
Abstract This paper explores the psychological defects inherent in individuals who manipulate others for personal gain. These individuals use tactics of deception, gaslighting, and covert aggression, believing their actions display intelligence and power. However, when their manipulative strategies are mirrored or countered, they often react irrationally, revealing a cognitive and emotional…

People have a tendency to villainize E. Gadd because he doesn’t express a lot of empathy and makes a fair share of tactless comments, but I definitely stand by the fact that he and Luigi have a darned good friendship going.
I mean, did E. Gadd make a goo clone out of Luigi’s DNA without his permission? Yes, but it was a clone specifically so Luigi wouldn’t be alone when ghost hunting. A clone that he felt he could only trust Luigi to train.
Heck, a lot of E. Gadd’s recent technology has revolved around making Luigi’s ghost hunting easier and safer. And that’s in addition to the fact that he…
Details in his scientific notes how worried he was for Luigi during certain boss fights
Calls Luigi every few minutes throughought Luigi’s Mansion 2 to make sure he’s okay, once saying he was on the verge of leaving his bunker to go out looking for him
Has flown into a panic about Luigi’s safety, even after he technically completed his mission to save the world
Willingly stayed in a dangerous situation he didn’t want to be in so he could help Luigi save his family
Started choking up at the thought losing Luigi, wanting his last words to him to be an expression how proud he was
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maybe he’s a little mean sometimes, and sometimes he crosses boundaries or doesn’t listen, but it’s balanced out with efforts to help and shows of genuine concern. It’s a flawed friendship, but one of genuine respect between the two.
It feels like… an old autistic guy with hyperfixation issues who has long given up on having any sort of relationship (platonic or otherwise) that isn’t strictly professional. And then in the midst of his scientifically motivated self-isolation, along comes this awkward green undiagnosed plumber who is not only capable enough to wield his inventions like a champ, but is kindhearted and understanding enough to put up with his nonsense and still consider him a good friend.
So now E. Gadd has stopped masking around him. He has found someone he feels completely comfortable around for the first time in his long life, someone he actually cares about and thinks about so often that it’s gotten intertwined with his hyperfixation.
Again, the friendship has its flaws, but the two are clearly very good for each other. It’s a very specific flavor of wholesome that I really enjoy.

It makes me laugh really hard when people try to argue that lwj and hua cheng are intended to be strictly extremely masculine just because mxtx asserts that they're tops. because like. what do you think she was doing when she wrote binghe then.

putting aside being sad about binghe for now, I was looking for the first time sqq directly compares binghe to a maiden, and as far as I can tell, the first time he calls him a maiden is this part:
To push him away during this moment would be like giving a young maiden -- one who'd finally worked up the courage to call and brokenheartedly weep to an older sister for comfort and encouragement -- a face-turning slap. It was really a bit cruel. (Chapter 11 in vol. 2 of the English translation)
this stands out to me because this is shortly after he finally realized binghe is attracted to him, while he's still grappling with the fact that he's "turned binghe gay." it's yet another example of sqq equating being gay with femininity -- he knows binghe is into men now, and thus begins him repeatedly referring to binghe's behavior as that of a maiden's
but the other thing that stands out to me about this quote is that sqq is also making himself a girl in this metaphor. I know the translation is probably lacking here and he's probably using jiejie to mean generic older female friend as opposed to jiejie meaning older sister, but still. shen qingqiu, why are both of you girls in this mental metaphor. hello. shen qingqiu are you aware that making both of you girls does not make it any less gay. shen qingqiu are you listening to me. shen qingqiu yes it's still gay when you're both girls
