Okay so

My little musical-loving, spooky heart has a fun scenario to throw at y’all. (i will return to my usual skeletal nonsense shortly, don’t worry)

but here we go:

Reader moves in next door to the Deetz-Maitland household and is BORED AS HECK because their family insisted they move there because it was cheaper than living in the city.

Except the city had things to do and this place is DULLSVILLE (as opposed to Coolsville where Scooby-Doo and pals live)

But then, as they’re sitting on their porch, they see a UPS guy running for the hills and shrieking away from their neighbor’s house.

Huh? Well it is October but that was weird.

INVESTIGATOR TIME

So Reader knocks on the door and...there’s  snakes everywhere when it opens. Just...snakes. Black and white, green lipped snakes that hiss and do the double mouth thing they last saw in Alien: Isolation lets plays.

“Uh....cool pets?” they say to Lydia, who appears from the shadows inside.

“Not mine, but  thanks,” the kid’s confused because that would terrify most people.

“I just saw the UPS guy run and...guess he’s afraid of these little guys?” Reader just lets them slither around, though they do tense a bit when any of them get close or curious about their feet.

“You’re not scared of snakes, I take it?” Lydia is picking up a few and putting them somewhere inside as she comes out.

“Nope. I’ve thought they were adorable babies since second grade. Never seen these Xenomorph lookin’ ones, though. Oh, uh, did you play Alien: Isolation or is my reference catalog ancient?”

“No, I did. It was cool,” she kind of smiles and the snakes retreat on their own. “Would you like to come in? I think I saw you move in next door?”

“Yeah!” Reader introduces themselves and Lydia does the same.

Fast forward as the cuties bond over horror games and tropes, laughing at how cheesy FNAF is or memeing about EXE games. (Lydia in a modern setting is totally a horror-game junkie and has a youtube channel with like...20 followers. It’s all her poetry reading, game reviews, and creepy pasta analysis)

Of course, being so close to Lydia at this point, eventually Adam and/or Barbara decide it’s time to show themselves and get introduced. Reader is over the moon because HOLY SHIT GHOSTS ARE REAL.

They ask all these questions and sort of lose track of themselves for a moment before realizing, “Oh, oops, sorry, you’re just normal folks who happen to be dead. Didn’t mean to be rude,” and then they calm down and hold a normal conversation.

And then somebody says something about maybe not all ghosts are a good thing, and Lydia snort-laughs.

And Reader gets the intro of a lifetime with our favorite bug eater.

He just pops in and keeps his back to them.

Lydia asks what’s up and he whines, “They thought my sand worms were CUTE! THEY AREN’T FUCKING CUTE!”

“Yeah, they are, but everything’s subjective, so I guess you’re entitled to how you see them, Mr. Juice.”

That gets Reader stared at by everyone, and BJ just busts out laughing because he just dropped a precision F-bomb and they go all polite. He then teases the Maitlands about them being bad influences on all breathers to make them super boring and nice.

“I’d rather be nice first. You make friends faster, and it makes it easy to learn if they like to railroad other folks. And then you can bust out the dangerous cold anger because they betrayed you, even if you haven’t really invested much. What about you, pouty asshat?”

And now he’s laughing again because THE BREATHER HAS BALLS TO SAY THAT.

“Babes, I like this one.”

And thus Reader is now on the journey of supernatural delight and ends up joining in and them and Beej are Best-friends-for-fucking-ever (BFFFEs) with Lydia.

The end

i just remembered that there’s this part in the Fellowship of the Ring book where like, Legolas has to personally account for Gimli because the other elves in the forest aren’t particularly open-minded about a dwarf being in their Super Special Leafy Elf Village(TM), and they’re all there for a while and by the time they leave Legolas and Gimli are BFFFE’s [Best Friends For-Fucking-Ever] and absolutely none of them have any idea when or how or why that happened
