"bil, for the last time," I sighed heavily, "im not going to be able to make it. I'll make it up to you, I promise."

billie whined on the other end of the phone, "it's not the same, ma."

I continued packing my suitcase. "I know, babe, but you know I have a huge meeting that I can not miss."

she grumbled, "I know." I heard water running and movement. "Wish me luck." she muttered as she began to brush her teeth.

"i'll be manifesting for you," i joke, walking to the bathroom to prepare my toiletries. "You're going to win the grammy." i reassure her.

i could hear her take a deep breath and sigh. "Yeah, hopefully. i think i should go to bed, big day tomorrow." she cheesed.

"Alright," i say dramatically. "If you have to."

she made a kiss noise, "i love ya."

"i love you too. Text me when you're up." i kissed her back before she hung up.

i checked the time on my phone, silently thanking billie for hanging up at the perfect time. i zipped up my suitcase and threw on my slides before walking out of the house. i double-checked to make sure the door was walked before i drove off towards the airport.

the cool winter breeze caught me off guard as i stepped out of my warm car. i dreaded all of the airport security traffic. it took me forever to get through everything, but i had finally made it on the flight that would take me to surprise billie.

i found out 3 hours before she called me that the meeting was canceled, and i decided i was going to surprise her. i booked the fastest flight and sound one that was perfect. i was surprised it was still available.

i sat peacefully on the plane, drinking Sprite and eating the iconic honey roasted peanuts. of course, i spent the whole time worrying over billies' reactions. would she be mad that i lied to her? i pondered back and forth, defending each argument for yes and no over in my mind.

the loud, robotic sounding woman over the speakers awoke me from my sleep. i rushed to get off the plane as i only had 2 hours to make it in time to see billie. i went to the nearest airport restroom and changed into my stunning dress that i had been saving for a really special occasion. it was a long, ruby red silk slip dress. it had a slit in the right legs and was long enough to trail behind me. i had straightened my hair before i left, and it had managed to stay intact. i did quick but elegant makeup and called my Uber.

the wait for the Uber was spent getting cat called by older men while waiting for billie to text me back.

me: How's your morning going, babe? i miss you

billie ❤️: it's going good, just doing hair and make up

billie ❤️: you?

billie ❤️: i miss you sm mama

me: just been thinking about you

billie: i gotta go get dressed, text you after ❤️

me: sounds goood

the Uber arrived and took me to my hotel room, which i had to rush to get ready since i was running late.

i basically threw on the dress that complimented hers, so i had enough time for makeup. luckly, i didn't like to do heavy makeup.

whenever i was finally done, billie texted me.

billie ❤️: god everything reminds me of how much i wish you could be here.

billie ❤️: theres an extra seat at the table for some reason

me: hm thats weird, dont worry, though i have the live video pulled up right now

i lied as i climbed into the Uber. i told the man my destination, and he began driving. butterflies were building up, and i couldn't wait to see her reaction.

i made it right in time, making it in time for the music related awards. i chatted with Lizzie Grant, one of my favorite music artists, as i waited for billie to leave the table so i could sneak in.

whenever they finally announced the first award for "what was i made for?" she got up and walked onto the stage.

i slid into my seat quietly, waving to finneas and claudia, who were in on the surprise.

i admired billie on stage. i was so proud of her. I couldn't contain it. a stupid smile spread on my face as i saw her bright smile on stage.

"Thank you so much. i really couldn't have done it without y/n and finneas. i love you too, and im so sorry you couldn't be here, baby." she blew a kiss to the camera, which i knew there'd be edits of later on.

she walked back, thanking all the people who congratulated her as she walked by.

she was only a few feet away whenever she made eye contact with me. her face lit up, and her smile grew. she ran towards me, pulling me out of my chair and capturing me in a tight hug. she peppered my face in kisses before finally meeting my lips. she held her lips on mine, and i didn't want her to pull away.

"You actually made it!" she exclaimed, wrapping her arms around my waist.

"How could i miss it?! my meeting got rescheduled, but i was planning on surprising you anyway. so everything worked out in the end." i explained.

"When did you get here?" she asked, her smile never fading.

"literally 2 and a half hours ago." i laughed, my arms snaking around her neck. "im so proud of you, bil."

"Thank you, mama." she pecked my lips once more, "i love you."

"i love you more." i smiled, "youre amazing. you deserve this so much."

billie went on to win another grammy. needless to say, we celebrated a lot that night.

The interstellar archaeological comity was having a hard time: They were send to inspect a dozen of ruins city across the same number of worlds by the Exploration Guild. The interstellar council is pretty strict about bureaucratic management, and they managed to make law that any founding must be inspected, documented, and categorized by the Archaeological comity instead of having the Exploration Guild looting the place up like it was done before.

And they even added that the inspection should be complete and done before the Colonization and Commercialization association could allow that planet to be put on the market for one of the dozens of new civilization of the council wanting to expend.

The problem was like that: They couldn't figure out the date, world of origin, or most information about the people that used to live in the cities.

The cities were obviously made by the same civilization, a pretty advanced in the field of robotic and architecture by the look of it, so advanced that their robots were still actives in the cities, cleaning , fixing, moving things in order. So all their age estimation techniques were all estimating the cities to be between 15 and 150 years old.

But the cities are colossal, they were probably counting billions of individuals, based on size of dwelling and infrastructures. And they would have require vast farming planets, thousands of ships to bring all theses resources. A big sprawling civilization, bigger than most civilization in the council. And they would have noticed that big of a civilization this close of their world, like all the ancient extinct civilization she must have existed thousands years ago, before the current galactic community oldest member took over the stars.

But no signs of when that extinction happened, no derelict ships, no overgrown farming world, no foods in the fridges!

To be honest, they had not a clue of what happen to the inhabitants. They must have been organic, oxygen breathing creatures. They should have eaten food, based on cooking instruments and refrigeration technology in the houses. They could adapted to different temperatures, as showed by some of their temperatures managements. And based on the usual similarity between robotic agents and creator theory, they were probably bipedal with two arms. And at most 2 meters high.

But they found no body, no animal organic live anywhere in the planet except bugs in the country side. Traces of environmental manipulation were found, but clearly distinct from the galactic standard.

One theory that was quickly dismissed was that the robots were the natural inhabitant and the civilization was extinct. Which was ridiculous, those machines while extremely advanced would have to be originating from an organic civilization to explain their comportment. And they clearly are not autonomous mechanical life, as they treated researcher as habitant and help them in any capacity they were able to provide. And the housing, while not adapted to some of the species in the galactic community, were quite nice for a lot of other.

But the problem is at follow: The laws of conservation and expansion necessitate that the Archaeological comity affirm that a civilization died at least 500 years ago to be deems in ruin and good for the taking. Which they cannot for the worlds of theses 'Human' as the robot called then. They could communicate with the robots, but they are really not good at it and most of their answers make no senses.

So a lot of peoples would agree that those worlds should be left alone for a few century before expansion and colonization could be attempted. But the Colonization comity really want theses worlds, as they could be inhabited in weeks instead of the years a normal colonization effort should take.

A lot of efforts were made to find accurate data on the cities ages, or to find new traces of that civilization, so that the archaeological comity could give an answers that would satisfy the colonists. Because a few bills where being sent to the Council to remove the conservation act, and it will be disastrous for the historical record of the galaxy!

At the same time, farther in the galaxy, on a little world circling a yellow star. A human man was addressing the united Earth parliament.

"And as we can see, the estimation on population growing rate of the last century were erroneous. When the doctors managed to extends the human lifespan to thousands of years, we supposed that the population will have an exponential increase in a few generation, and we launched the program “New homes for our children”. Now 182 years later, we can see that this scenario didn’t happen, and as of today no one went into one a the new world that was terraformed. As we are now sitting on 185 habitable worlds, each with the infrastructure to house 10 billions humans, which is more than the actual population of earth, I argue that we should stop the program and just maintaining the cities we already have. If everyone suddenly want to have children a lot, then we should reconsider starting the colonizations efforts again.

"They were too ambitious, establishing autonomous factories on other planets to build megacities for humankind. I guess they assumed we'd flourish and grow in number, spread throughout the stars. The truth is most of us never got to leave Earth, and now all the cities they built are empty."

Hoborg's pose is based on the sketch Doug TenNapel drew, but I flipped the pose because I plan to used it (and the other character drawings I've done so far) for a size comparison chart.

For Big Robot Bil I tried some coloring and shading techniques I learned watching Starfishface on YouTube.

The Neverhood

This scene is still one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen.

My family got this game from one of my dad’s oldest friends, and we all loved the hell out of this game. The music is so unique and fun, the characters are quirky and likeable and the story is simple but effective. I remember us just listening to the various radio stations in the game and laughing at them. And aside from that one bullshit puzzle, they’re all pretty easy to understand but still fairly challenging.

Plus I really like the way the world is presented. Just like with Oddworld, it just drops you in and doesn’t bother explaining everything and it still works really well. Why is there a giant crab thing? Why is there a bottomless well there? It doesn’t matter, you don’t need to know this to enjoy the world and the story, try eating three apples and see what happens.

I still replay this every now and then.

Recently, Vinny from Vinesauce started playing this game called "The Neverhood". I have never actually seen much of this game aside from seeing it mentioned in Youtube videos about weirdest game. But after watching Vinny play it, I've pretty much fallen in love with it. There's something very charming and impressive about a game made mostly out of claymation. Even though the puzzles are a bit frustrating, the characters are lovable, the story is great, and the music is well...bizarre, but very fun to listen to. So here's fanart of most of the characters in the game. I love Klaymen, so that's why I drew a few of him with different expressions. He's so expressive. I love that while he doesn't seem to be very smart, he's always trying his best and is smiling most of the time. I'm a bit sad that this game, as well as its sequel "Skullmonkeys" and it's spiritual successor "Armikrog", don't have much of an online presence. But I still wanted to contribute some fanart to what little fandom it has online.
