i think the reason i’ll always be so attached to henry blake is because i’ll always be a little insane over the position he was written into . like it’s different with potter . potter obviously had a softer , more human side , but when you think potter you think military man first . and to an extent it’s supposed to be like that . they introduce him like that , despite the fact that at the end of the first episode he’s in it shows him drinking with hawkeye and bj to say “ hey , he’s not completely like the other army crazy officers that have been in the show “ . but at the same time , there’s a constant reminder , in his mannerisms , in the way he’s addressed , in the way he just knows the army … he’s a military man first .

and , god , we all know it was never like that with henry , but i don’t think we ever realize the extent to which it was never really like that . from the get - go , he’s seen being more lax with the members of the 4077th . his first scene is him opening a bottle of champagne with a nurse . the way hawkeye talks about him in his letter to his dad … he refers to him as henry , cracks a few jokes about him , immediately the impression the audience gets is that this is the opposite of a military man . you’re supposed to be surprised that he’s in charge .

and maybe that’s why i find him so tragic , because he’s everything and he’s nothing . we have the expectation for him to be a colonel , but while he has the title , he’s just … not . and at the same time , he’s expected to be a friend . hawkeye and trapper always take for granted that henry is their friend , i mean , hell , they even get annoyed with him when he puts his foot down over something they do ( because he’s supposed to , he’s a colonel after all , remember ? ) . he’s expected to be a friend , but at the same time … he can’t .

and it’s even WORSE when you think about his role as a doctor because he’s supposed to be a caretaker and a commander … he’s supposed to save lives but at the same time he has to decide if they’re worth saving more often than hawk and trap do … and in episodes like aid station or the rainbow bridge he had to decide who’s life he had to put on the line even though he’s just not cut out for that . he has to care but at the same time he can’t care too much because he has to keep his composure … he can’t care in the same way that trapper and hawkeye do , even if it’s obvious that he does . he can’t , the military won’t let him . because he can’t just be a doctor , he has to a commander as well . 

not even to mention his relationship with radar . like , henry was so obviously a father figure to him , he obviously loved him , yet over and over again he keeps his distance from him ( and while i think this partially is a result of the fact i just think henry has a hard time voicing how much he cares about people … if i loved you less maybe i could talk about it more , etc etc … , that’s a whole different conversation ) , and i definitely think that is because of his position too . he can’t be a family member . he has to be a leader , he has to follow the guidelines that the military has set for him . he has to treat radar the same way he treats everyone else under his command .

it’s so absurd and maybe that just adds to the comedy of it but it’s also like … he truly was just never supposed to be there . they tried to make him tougher and to an extent they tried to make him a fighter and there’s a reason it just never worked , because henry was always supposed to be a lover . making him colonel blake was like putting a round peg in a square hole and i’m pretty sure it killed him way before that plane ever crashed into the ocean . it’s just not fucking fair .

I think Blake had maybe publicly confirmed she was pregnant by then but whether she had or not it’s also very weird to comment on the bump and her physical appearance rather than the happy news. I feel like publicists shouldn’t have to tell people that. 😭 It all very well could be part of a concerted campaign. I’ve seen some screenshots of her posting old interviews of Johnny Depp back when his trial was going on, raving about how kind he was. Very interesting given that Justin Baldoni apparently hired JD’s crisis PR person. I don’t really care about anyone involved very deeply but I just don’t know how many times we are going to do the thing where everyone collectively vilifies everything about an imperfect woman in order to protect an also imperfect man.

That's a perfect way to describe it. As I mentioned in my first post, I don't even particularly care about Blake Lively. But why are we, as a society, only interested in punishing imperfect women? Why do we only hold them accountable? It doesn't feel like holding someone accountable. It feels like ganging up on someone, collectively bullying them, making them seem like a vile and evil person. Wishing death on them. Like this is NOT normal. It is not a genuine reaction. It's seeped in misogyny.

So knowing how vengeful ilia’s parent come across in “smile” doesn’t that make Blake telling ilia “is this what your parents would have wanted” feel kinda distasteful? Like, Blake never knew them, but ilia did. And either way based on smile it kinda seems like they wouldn’t want her to be as passive as ghira and Blake have been for all that we’ve seen of them.

Again it sometimes Blake in relation to ilia is a white savior type who shows the angry POC the “correct” way to fight for her rights. Admittedly Blake is also an in universe minority but it just doesn’t look good all around

The faunus plotline has never been RWBY's best writing, I think anyone who's capable of critical thinking can admit that. But what I do think is incredibly important concerning it is how Blake is able to heal and allow herself to step out of that same mindset. She pulls herself out of Adam's version of the White Fang because she finally gains the courage to escape from his abuse.

And she's not perfect. Of course she's not. She might've known Ilia's parents a little and she might've not at all, but either way, she's trying to pull Ilia out of the deep end because she knows Ilia's not entirely gone.

Okay, I have to ask... how would your OCs react to meeting my OCs from the same fandoms? i.e how Tern would get along with Katherine, how Blake would get along with my X-Men OCs, etc.

OOH what a good question!

I think Tern would initially be a bit apprehensive towards Katherine, since they take a more distrustful approach to the tablet's magic because of their connection to the underworld. However, I think that they would eventually realize that the ability to transcend time is NOT one that you find every day, and I like to think that they would connect over the sheer improbability of their situations. Plus, Tern is an archivist by trade, and I think they would love to pick Katherine's brain about all the Kemetic symbolism that she's immersed in.

I think Blake would really bond with Madison over the fact that both their mutations are naturalistic and animalistic (to a degree). He and Robin also have that music connection, although I'm sure they have very different philosophies towards it. Blake also has quite a deal of trauma stemming from his mutation, but that's not exactly uncommon in the X-Mansion, so he's in good company.

(Not in the same fandom but I couldn't resist) I think Alden and Wojchek would HATE each other. They're both extremely stubborn, devoted to their crews to a fault, and would have no desire to make concessions or mediate. Alden's no stranger to having his authority questioned (see first mate James) but I think he'd unconsciously see his mirror image and react antagonistically. James would love Vivienne, though. He'd want to sketch her all day, and they'd very conspiratorially talk about Alden behind his back.

Bruce - Can't hold a gun to save his life. Not comfortable with it and he'd rather err on the safe side for now. Unlike fishing these animals can't just fling themselves in his direction and be considered caught

Finney - He also can't hold a gun against any animal to save his life. He hates it. Trapping he can do, however. Caught a rabbit once but it was alive and struggling when he got to it and Finney had to put it out of its misery (He decided never again)

Griffin - He's caught small animals before, just not with any hunting weapon. Griffin uses simple traps like rope traps, box traps, his bare hands once- He releases them because he's not about to kill innocent animals for no reason

Robin - He's gone hunting a few times with his uncle because he wants to learn how to use a gun proper like his dad did. He's only taken down small prey but its pretty good

Billy - He's done genuine sport hunting. Has caught ducks during duck season and a few small creatures. Harper is good at fetching ducks

Vance - Honestly if we let this kid fight a deer he'd win. He's never actually done it before but give him time and Vance's focus will land him a fair shot each and every time

Night Children AU

Blake (he/they) was taken during NS's original bid for control (JD 2023) and made a minion, the trauma left him heavily emotionally scarred. They hold a large amount of rage that often comes out in battle forcing Liv to reel them back in. She is his anchor in a sea of unresolved anger directed at Night Swan.

Though Liv (she/her) wasn't captured, she saw many of her friends and loved ones taken (including Blake). While she is the more level-headed between herself and Blake, she shouldn't be underestimated. Her rationale nature shouldn't be mistaken for weakness and if pushed she will come down harder than Blake ever could.

They have known each other most of their lives and are dedicated to the effort of the Resistance, having become a key component in the battle. Individually they are strong and can hold their own, but when they work together they are effortlessly able to free countless minions.

Blake is determined that they could break one of the Just Dancers free of Night Swan's control if Liv would only agree, but she won't. The Generals almost never travel alone and while they may be formidable she knows they won't stand a chance against two or more of the Night Children.
