not looking behind? that was simple enough. he could do it. they trusted each other. they were brothers, after all. only he is so used to tommy by his side and the tunnel is so cold and so dark and so so quiet and tommy was never quiet, was he? surely he was still there? only he cant look so he keeps his eyes forward. until he hears a strangled sob. and its late, far too late when he realizes it came from from his throat, because on instinct he glances behind to check on his brother.

tommy's eyes stare back, bright and watery and full of grief. and in that moment, wilbur loses everything,
