How did it come to this? Is all I could think as I stared blankly at the metal bars that held together the bed above me. What the fork is wrong with you man? I muttered under my breath as I flipped uncomfortably on the bed, ultimately giving up on trying to get comfortable or getting  any sort of slumber at that point. I sat up, the bed letting a satisfying creak beneath me as I did so, I sat forward placing my face in my abnormally large hands that were painted with an assortment of colors.

“Hey, can you stop moving around Thanos? Some people need their beauty-rest,” A voice from above whispered spitefully, a head popping down. Nam-gyu’s slick black hair hangs loosely as his features contort in disdain. 

The sight reminded me of those little wooden troll dolls, from… Y’know the Trolls movie, the one that’s wooden and looks like an ugly little man with tufts of pink hair shooting in a soft spike. It couldn’t help but let a smirk across my face before I sucked in my lips bringing my fingers to his forehead and letting a large smack fill the silent room as I flicked him in the center. His face wrinkled as if to scream, but no sound came out. I stifled my laughs, at some point having to half-suffocate myself with the pillow that felt like rocks as Nam-gyu whisper-yelled obscenities at me.

When I finally regained my composure, wiping a few tears from my eyes, I almost busted out again seeing the red patch of skin where I had flicked him, every once in a while he rubbed the throbbing patch.

“Glad I can be your personal comedian,” He spat with a little bit of venom. “Now care to explain why you’re keeping me up man?”

The smile that had been so cockily adorned on my face was replaced with a frown, as I looked away sulkily.

“I was thinking… What if we get outvoted tomorrow?” I said slowly, articulating my words, feeling my blood beginning to run cold as I avoided eye-contact with my friend.

“That would suck~ but…” He said, cocking up an eyebrow. “That's not all you're thinking about, am I right?”

I felt myself freeze under his gaze, he had hit the nail on the head perfectly, I could feel my face get warmer as I covered my face. This was all your fault… How did it come to this? THE LEGENDARY FORKIN THANOS falling for something as stupid as you? The blue button…Just the way you seemed to glow under his fingers, his palm fit around the smooth sapphire colored semi-orb just perfectly. 

Ever since the first voting when I had first seen you, just sitting there, like a gorgeous angel on a pedestal, like a beautiful greek goddess on display. Even though I had cockily walked up to choose you, I couldn’t help but feel nervous under my tough front. My hand shaking, and sweat beading down my neck as I looked at the small white circle you dressed yourself with. A succubus.. That’s what you were, you wanted this, and he had fallen into your trap. 

The moment my fingers graced your surface it was game over. You were mean, now here I was avoiding his friend’s concerned gaze, with you on my mind. I was addicted, and I wasn’t talking about the drugs I kept inside my cross necklace, but to you, the blue button. I had wanted to stop playing these ridiculous games a long time ago, yet I had continued wanting to see you, smiling like an idiot in your presence was stronger than my fear for death. 

I decided that tomorrow was the day… I would confess my love, I was curious how you would react. Would you get red with embarrassment and shy away? Or would you melt to my touch, being the medusa you were? I couldn't help but giggle to myself, I could barely hear my friend mumble something about me being high out of my mind, only if he knew I was high on you.

The following morning I eagerly got up as they began to call us one by one, letting us take our vote, but as they did so my excitement quickly turned to that of nerves. People were switching sides, that meant that we had less votes which meant that they would lose which meant… He would have to go home and never see you again. 

When I was called up I fixed myself putting on the same stupid grin as I, didn’t walk, skipped to where you were. Sitting there, a beautiful blinding blue that entranced me. 

"Hey there senorita," I whispered as I moved my hand to touch her.

Stop! You said as you looked away shamefully, knowing full well you reciprocate his feelings, tears begin welling up in your eyes. Don’t do this thanos I- sniffles- I love you too but… This can’t work, I can’t bear to see you die… Please just press her and go home~

I couldn’t help the growing warmth in my heart. “Don’t forkin’ worry senorita,” I said with my voice low. “I’m not gonna die, I’m the Legend Thanos. And why would I choose her? I choose you, and I’ll always choose you, don’t worry so much button-poo, we’re gonna get outta here together.”

Before she could protest my lips smash against her smooth surface, I big goofy grin spread across my face as I watched her glow up with a blush. 

I better see you again. You said with a lovestruck voice.

“LET’SSS GOOOOOOO!” I said showing my support for our love as I held my arms out to make a circle.

These were the memories that fled through my mind as I held my neck, as I tried to stop the red rivers of blood that gushed and sprayed out. I held the fork, not quite sure what else to do in the moment as I felt myself convulse, and my body collapse beneath me. I begin to choke on the metallic taste and quickly begin to feel my mouth, coughing out a spurt of blood reaching out and grabbing the pant-leg of the man who had caused this fork to be stuck in me. I gurgled as I was kicked off, slowly falling to the floor painfully, in a pool of my own blood, feeling myself go in mobile. I’m sorry senorita~

The Hydrozoa Couple. Two loyal followers and citizens of the Cnidarian utopia. Members of the Hydrozoa branch. While Eon is the definition of cryptic stoicism. Porpita is the example of optimistically stubborn. Put the two together you get a odd but lovely couple.

Eon The Immortal Jellyfish: A 7000 nomadic time user, a member of Team Wisp, embodiment of the Brown Wisps, and the partner of Porpita. Because of his knowledge he was recruited to Team Wisp, however his manner of Speaking is hard for anyone to understand. But when you get to know him he's an open book that's a blast to read.

Porpita The Blue Button: the partner of Eon and a clever jelly as there's ever been one. Her ...lets say personality (for lack of a better word) was enough to break through the centuries year old jelly known as Eon. She loves his way of speaking and is always there to listen of his problems and his stories.

Gray Hairstreak

Strymon melinus

Observed 6.13.25 at Galveston Island State Park. It is the most common native butterfly found across North America. It also goes south into Central America and South America. Adults thrive in all kinds of habitats from gardens to open woodlands and from 9,000 ft to sea level. They pollinate various plants while getting nectar.

Larvae can be found on over 30 plant families as hosts. Legumes and mallows are favorites.

Their hindwing tails twitch independently when the butterfly is at rest and it’s thought to be a defense mechanism.

Willet

Tringa semipalmata

Observed on Galveston Island most days on both the bay side and ocean side. They are a native species to the area.

There are two subspecies; the western willet breed in inland freshwater marshes and the eastern willet breed in saltwater marshes.

They are active during the day and night often using moonlight and/or tides to forage for crustaceans, insects, mollusks and more.

They nest in a similar way to killdeer with both male and female working together to build the nest. They will even act injured to lure predators away from the nest like a killdeer.

Texas Paintbrush

Castilleja indivisa

Observed 6.19.25 in Burleson Texas. Such a surprise coming across my favorite wildflower in the middle of June! They are native to Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. There are several species of Indian Paintbrushes in different regions.

It is a hemiparasitic plant meaning that not only does it photosynthesize but its roots can tap into the roots of other plants and absorb water and nutrients from them. They also absorb and remove selenium in the soil. In places with higher levels of selenium the plant can become toxic.

The plant has several greenish-white flowers that are nestled in the showy red/orange/coral bracts. They are attractive to pollinators like hummingbirds and butterflies. They have seed capsules that will split open and small seeds are scattered by the wind.

Native Americans use the plant in medicinal teas, hair oil, and for dye. There is a legend that a Native American boy painted the sunset and then the paintbrushes turned into plants.

White Leghorn Chicken

Gallus gallus domesticus

Observed at my friend’s house in Cleburne. All domestic chickens have the same scientific name but can have different characteristics. White Leghorns originated from the Tuscan area of Italy. They were first exported to the US about 1828.

White Leghorns are prolific egg layers and are used the most commercially because of it. They can start laying white eggs around 17-20 weeks old, earlier than other breeds. The hens don’t usually sit on the eggs to hatch them which is called being broody.

White is the most common color of leghorn but they are come in black, brown and buff. Roosters have a single red comb on top as well as wattles. They also have white earlobes.

They can fly and are able to clear 10 ft fences! When they are able to roam free they are good at foraging which can help with feed costs. They can become bored in small spaces, not liking confinement.

They can handle a range of climates though others are better suited for the cold.

Observed at Galveston Island State Park 6.22.25. It is a native mushroom that is usually seen by oak and pine trees. It can form a symbiotic relationship, mycorrhizal association, with the trees enhancing nutrient absorption.

The bright coloration may be used to attract insects to help with spore dispersal.

It is considered nontoxic but not a tasty treat and can upset stomachs. It bruises to a blue-green hue when cut or handled. The acidic taste and bruising can help identify it. (I am no expert so I am not tasting the mushrooms I find)

Blue Button

Porpita porpita

Observed on Galveston beach 6.23.25. It is normally found floating in subtropical and tropical oceans as well as the Gulf of Mexico though sometimes the currents or winds will blow them ashore.

Though it looks like a jellyfish it is actually a colony of hydroids, individuals working as one. They also have different purposes such as reproduction, feeding and protection to name a few. The colony are the branches that look like tentacles and at the end of each branch is a knob of stinging cells.

The float is the center disc with the mouth/waste exit on the underside of it. The float is gaseous which keeps it from sinking into the water column like a jellyfish.

Eastern Kingbird

Tyrannus tyrannus

Observed 4.24.25 & 6.22.25 at Galveston Island State Park. Their native breeding range is most of North America (yes those are babies) and they migrate to South America for the winter.

During breeding season they will defend their nest and territory quite aggressively even from larger birds like hawks. Luckily, I was not harmed in the making of this post! 😅

They become social once breeding season is over and they will migrate in flocks that can have thousands of birds. They also switch out their eating habits going from mostly insects during breeding season to fruit the rest of the year.

They are in the flycatcher family which means they are excellent flyers and rarely walk or hop. They will perch in trees and catch their food on the fly.
